I love Animals As Leaders but I defintely think that Jordan's keyboard parts added a lot of cool texture and vibe to the song. And that Lead melody and sound during the solo, wow.
How on earth does he do a crazy, screaming solo with a real Blues-y sound over AAL's heavy, dark harmonic minor sounding breakdown & solo?! Incredible talent! Would love to see Jordan Rudess collaborate on at least one future Animals song.
I'm a guitar player but I love watching Jordan play piano. Really cool to see his process when learning a new song. I saw Dream Theater live once and Jordan was incredible.
Why does it matter what instrument you play? Any person and musician especially could and should find this extremely interesting to watch. Are you saying because you play guitar you won’t find piano transcription cool? Genuinely makes no sense why you need to say that at the beginning. It’s cool regardless
@@yugdails Because they're two totally different instruments? And no, not every musician would find this interesting to watch specifically because most people dont even look out of their own lanes whether it be their genre or instrument.
Those screaming bends he does with the piano wammy punches you i the chest. Im also a guitar player and damn that wammy is an intimidating sound that would be very hard to replicate that cleanly with a guitar.
As a keyboard player myself, I have been a huge Jordan Rudess fan for over 25 years. So, to watch him learn another song and work through it, learn the progression(s), and to kind of get the inner workings of his thought process on how he approached the song, this was REALLY cool. What a huge treat! Thank you for this.
Seeing the animals as leaders guys live with dream theater in denver was literally a life changing show. I am truly grateful to every member of those bands along with devin townsend for putting on just the most incredible show ive ever seen.
@@lunaretic3I can see that, and agree with it to an extent. Though I felt this way with more of polyphia’s rhythm section too at times. Not a knock on any of them at all, just a matter of preference. When he solo’d over Alicia Keys piano work on Empire State of Mind, there was certainly the feel I get from my more slower, bluesy musicians. It’s not a skill deficiency for sure they just creatively like to challenge themselves. It’s like two extremes of the spectrum of music where we have soulless, emotionless manufactured chart topping pop music and then super technical stuff that has little feel, I’d say Dream Theater aren’t too close to the latter end of that spectrum and I find this way more listenable than most boring mainstream pop.
wizards as leaders !!!! una total locura, la habilidad, la capacidad, el conocimiento, el oido, la creatividad, mi mente exploto. Gran leyenda Jordan Rudess, no te acabes nunca...
I met him after he opened a Porcupine Tree show solo, he was hanging around the back of the room and we talked for about 20 mins or so. One of the nicest and most humble people I've ever come across, but a natural teacher as well. Notably astute and perceptive, and very well spoken. Hope to talk to him/see him perform again some day! I feel like I'm devolving into a single-celled organism every time I watch him rip through a solo, it's just mind-bending.
doenst strike me as a "most humble person" tbh the prog has douched him or the other way around edit: he ignores tosins solo and plays his whacky uninspired old man blues over it nutting all over his kronos
It's amazing that after all the success he's had with DT and what an absolute giant of his instrument he is, he remains that humble person. A true testament to this character
As dazzling as his fingers are - his ears are the jewels in his crown as an elite musician. The more you mature as a musician - the more you realize that great fingers are a dime a dozen but a truly great ear is rare.
The man is a friggin' wizard. Man I love watching musicians of this level just freestyle and learn a song on the fly like this. Raw talent, such a small portion of the human population can do this. I love it!
Not that I ever doubted it for a moment, knowing his work but this was simply jaw dropping. I know there were cuts and edits but I'd bet this didn't take him more than an hour tops to get down
I really hope Animals as Leaders have seen this. They need to recruit Jordan! He improves on this piece a lot, I keep coming back to watch his performance 🔥
very rarely do I agree with shoehorning another instrument in a track that feels so complete but somehow this is correct, I know Jordan is mixed higher so we can hear it but I can totally hear it externally and it being pretty spectacular.
Please! More with Jordan Rudess! I would watch every video with this man. Maybe it's easy to say, but this man studied at Juilliard and has been a fundamental piece in a band as incredible as Dream Theater for years. He is a master. There are probably few like him: it's not just the technique and the speed, it's not just the technology and all the sounds that he can get from that Korg Kronos in sub-second transitions, but it's also all the musical heritage and influence of the last 30 years. An inspiration for many. For me, the best.
This is why Dream Theater is a pillar in the complete music history… the amount of complexity he can achieve in just minutes of hearing a song, it’s out of this world
this is so great! I had the pleasure of going to this past tour is Dream Theater and Animals As Leaders! I was such a memorable experience. Jordan Rudess is the MAN
The half-step descending line at the end of the solo was so flawlessly timed. The transcribing is one thing, super cool and inspirational, but his feel in performance is something any musician should be able to appreciate.

I love Animals As Leaders but I defintely think that Jordan's keyboard parts added a lot of cool texture and vibe to the song. And that Lead melody and sound during the solo, wow.
Don't forget the dancing part😅
That solo gave my entire body goosebumps.
I had to pause and shout a few times and rewind it.
same 😌
absolutely. recreating the guitar solo sentiment/feeling on piano.... just insanely good
If he wasn't already enough of a musical genius, he has videos of him shredding guitar with one hand and the keyboard in another. At the same time 🤯
The keys actually complete this song imo. It fills in the mix in a really good way.
The song does not have keys?
@@MnyFrNthng Animals As Leaders is just two guitars and drums.
he added layers that made the song even better... a true musical savant....
LMAO savant implies there's something wrong with him and he's good despite it
@@amountainlioncsgo You might want to pull out your dictionary.
@@amountainlioncsgoNo?
@@amountainlioncsgoI can't believe so many other people agree with you. Where did y'all learn this meaning of savant?
How on earth does he do a crazy, screaming solo with a real Blues-y sound over AAL's heavy, dark harmonic minor sounding breakdown & solo?! Incredible talent!
Would love to see Jordan Rudess collaborate on at least one future Animals song.
I've seen animals as leaders live and they are absolutely insane. For him to recreate the whole song just from listening to them? Mind-blowing
Love the transition from Alicia Keys to Animals as Leaders.

Demonstrations of high levels of competence are a beautiful thing to watch. Absolutely beautiful.
@@yugdails relax dude all I said was I don’t play piano but I like watching a specific piano player.
@@yugdails Because they're two totally different instruments? And no, not every musician would find this interesting to watch specifically because most people dont even look out of their own lanes whether it be their genre or instrument.
Me too!! I love Jordan videos because he's always breaking down his thought process and making me realize I'm a Platypus musician.
Those screaming bends he does with the piano wammy punches you i the chest. Im also a guitar player and damn that wammy is an intimidating sound that would be very hard to replicate that cleanly with a guitar.
That addition of piano is pure genius and pure experience combined.
I've seen Dream Theater in Denver twice, and I can't believe I missed the one with AaL!
I've seen them live, they were okay. But thought it was too technical without emotion.
@@lunaretic3We all groove on different stuff
Seeing JR react and dance to The Woven Web's breakdown just made my 2024
wizards as leaders !!!! una total locura, la habilidad, la capacidad, el conocimiento, el oido, la creatividad, mi mente exploto.
I feel like I'm devolving into a single-celled organism every time I watch him rip through a solo, it's just mind-bending.
humble is not the first thing that comes to mind though
doenst strike me as a "most humble person" tbh the prog has douched him or the other way around
edit: he ignores tosins solo and plays his whacky uninspired old man blues over it nutting all over his kronos
He’s my idol but he’s not humble ahahh, no one in prog rock is besides maybe devin townsend 😂
@@bp4816 i think you're right
It's amazing that after all the success he's had with DT and what an absolute giant of his instrument he is, he remains that humble person. A true testament to this character
As dazzling as his fingers are - his ears are the jewels in his crown as an elite musician.
The more you mature as a musician - the more you realize that great fingers are a dime a dozen but a truly great ear is rare.
He said he has perfect pitch. It shows.
And brain 🧠 don't forget the brain
Ridiculous comment. Great fingers are not a dime a dozen, otherwise everyone would be playing at Shawn Lanes standard.
@@GoatMee Indeed, you have to know what you hear and understand it conceptually as well, at the speed you are hearing it at.
time spent training your ear is much more valuable than just running exercises on an instrument.
The man is a friggin' wizard. Man I love watching musicians of this level just freestyle and learn a song on the fly like this. Raw talent, such a small portion of the human population can do this. I love it!
It is crazy how expressionistic he gets when playing. Amazing video.
This is gonna be insane.
I feel like there is some sort of inspiration from drumeo there, no?
@@diacoal2433 part of the same company

Wow the fact that he has perfect pitch is so rewarding and can hear the colors of the Harmony… Awersome playing very close…
It sounded so natural as if keyboards were meant for this song.
I cant get enough of this soundd! Hes incredible
Too bad he can't play a B3 Hammond worth crap huh?
Rudess immediately improves every band. I'd love to hear hime play with Snarky Puppy!
The solo gave me full body chills. Bravo Jordan.
Not that I ever doubted it for a moment, knowing his work but this was simply jaw dropping. I know there were cuts and edits but I'd bet this didn't take him more than an hour tops to get down
Watching this unfold was insane. He works fast.
Jordans understanding of music is absolutely phenomenal
Now, that’s the kind of episode we needed! The Woven Web is an absolute masterpiece, and Jordan complimented it with his playing nicely!
This guy is the real deal. He can write the music for what he hears. It's amazing.
Love what he does during the quieter parts of the song, it screams trippy, atmospheric euphoria!
They could use a full time keyboardist imo. No bassist, 2x 6-7-8 string guitarists and drums.
Dream Theater promo is slowly starting to roll...first Mike on Drumeo and now Jordan here! Great stuff and super pumped for the future album
His musicality and sound design has always been a massive inspiration of mine - dude is mind blowing
This is why Dream Theater is a pillar in the complete music history… the amount of complexity he can achieve in just minutes of hearing a song, it’s out of this world
and nothing memorable, its like doing flips and acrobatics over the place but having no punch

He's an incredible musician!🧙♂⚡
the soloing is insane
🧙♂⚡
The half-step descending line at the end of the solo was so flawlessly timed. The transcribing is one thing, super cool and inspirational, but his feel in performance is something any musician should be able to appreciate.
Love this man! His amazing, the feeling and passion that he puts into his work is truly incredible. Love these type of videos with pro pianist that hears song for the first time! Keep 'em coming!
Unmatched, this man. Brought the song to a whole new level of harmony and intelligence. Wonderful.
Cannot believe how well he executed that. Jordan, do a remix of that whole album! Your parts fit so well.
This has just within the past couple of weeks popped up on my feed, and I have been putting off listening to it. I have been on a AAL kick tonight, so I finally decided to give this a watch. IT DIDN'T DISAPPOINT!
It's such a pleasure to watch Jordan do his thing and not only process music he's never heard before, but embellish it so well with his own style. We truly live on a privileged timeline, where we get to benefit from this man's contributions to music.
Animals + Rudess is definitely an album I'd buy! This sounds so good.
The definition of a musical genius
He has such a wholesome smile, he seems like a nice guy to be around :)
This is incredible. The riffs, the harmonic arrangement, the solo, just incredible. If you'd have played that version to me, as someone who doesn't know the original, I'd be convinced that it was a Dream Theater song.
Keep these content coming both Pianote and Drumeo, loving this concept. Jordan and Mike are killing these segments, next up John P. and John M. 🙌
Absolutely fantastic synth solo. What a maestro.
The joy of watching someone so accomplished at what they do is so hard to top. This captured sheer happiness!
OMG! I never thought I would see Mr. Jordan Rudess soloing to an Animals As Leaders song, and it was just MIND-BLOWING! The Woven Web was an excellent choice, by the way.
Thanks for making it happen, Pianote! 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
I saw them live as an opening act. Absolutely incredible.
Holy crap. Some people have this quality of allowing music to "flow" through them, this is a perfect demonstration of it..
And that'sWHY he is the Dream Theater's keyboard player... master. Congrats Jordan. 👏🏻
I don't play keys. But this was like an emotional experience watching Jordan do what he did. Absolutely mind blowing. Thank you!
Been a fan of Dream Theater since my middle school time, and recently listened to Animal as Leaders at my college times, seeing Jordan plays Woven Web brings me joy
Just... wow. I've seen some similar videos with Jordan, but the way he just immediately knows what's going on blows my mind every time. What an absolute master of his instrument (or music in general, I guess).
Jordan's Dream Theater 'palette' is stellar! His hand speed and finger dexterity always blows me away too!
Thank you so much for bringing Jordan to your channel! Really enjoyed this episode. :)
Our pleasure!
I've been a huge fan of Jordan's since 1999 and even I'm blown away by how incredible he is! It's one thing to have time with the band to learn the songs like he does in DT, but to see him process everything in real time like this is just another level
ENCORE!!! ENCORE!!! ENCORE!!! That was incredible. I could listen to Jordan Rudess all the time and still be satisfied.
I play the electric and acoustic guitar and hearing him play and make a guitar solo on the keyboard better than anything I've ever even played has inspired me quite a bit...... inspired me to find the nearest dumpster to chuck my musical instruments 😭
You're not the only one to think that, and at least I'm grateful to still be more proficient with a fishing rod.

Jordans solos on Train of Thought are mind blowing . His vaudeville playing in The Dark Eternal Night is exciting. His unison leads with Petrucci are ear melting. I love the modulation, the keys sound like they're bending with so much feelings and emotions
