    Troy eats these layered grooves for breakfast. He's a beast. Must learn this one, it totally kicks ass and I LOVE playing grooves you can really lay into like this one. Ausie's seem to have a knack for prog drumming.

      I'd love to make this more regular. But honestly it's hard with the amount of work that I've got, and I have to feed myself and pay the dues with said work, which means this youtube thing isn't feeding me yet but when it does, I'd be happy to transition this into a regular thing! So until then, I appreciate you continuing to watch my videos.

    Hi Wei,
    What electronic drumset do you have there? Is it a stock TD-30 setup or something special? Are you using the module sounds in your video or some external software?
    Thanks!

    • @ArtOfDrummingHQ
      @ArtOfDrummingHQ  7 років тому +1

      Hey Grimace, your avatar and nick cracked me up hahahaha. Yes all sounds are from the TD-30, but not in its stock mode, I played around with finding a mix of the sounds that I like, adjusting mic placement, changing the size on some of the drums and cymbals using the TD-30 module then I recorded into my computer with no reverb.
      Next my audio guy mixes and edits everything in protools, for example he used a dual layer reverb on my snare drum among other things, which gives us the final product you hear in the video.

  • @brice3513
    @brice3513 6 років тому

    ua-cam.com/video/G9zeeQFluzU/v-deo.html When you say override i guess you mean polymeter? I've never heard the term and from what I understand, polyrhythms are different meters within the same time frame and polymeters are different meters that resolve when all 1 beats meet back up at the same time naturally.
    Polyrhythm Ex: 3 (x1 rep) over 4 (x1 rep) = resolution.
    Polymeter Ex: 3 (x4 reps) against 4 (x3 rep) = resolution.
    You have some really good rhythm breakdowns btw. Good job.

    • @ArtOfDrummingHQ
      @ArtOfDrummingHQ  6 років тому +1

      Yep you're right about polyrhythms. This term over-riding is another way of describing poly-rhythms but makes some rhythms easier to understand for example the regular backbeat against the 13/8 groove here, which is not just a polyrhythm, but created as a groove override. Google "Gavin Harrison overriding" where he talks about this concept.
      Thanks for your compliments :) You the man!

    Please break down "Beelzebub" from Bill Bruford's Feels Good to Me album. Great music and time changes throughout unlike this meaningless garbage.

  • @int_enc
    @int_enc 6 років тому

    not interesting enough...this is just basic polyrhythm 3 against 4 and some polymeter, where is 5 over 2 ? in my opinion 5 over 2 is also basic,..So why your video title is multiple poly-rhythms ? click bait ?? its really misleading for people who look for real "multiple" polyrhythm.Sorry if you offended by my rather arrogant type of comments but thats not my point really, if your purpose is to educate peoples why not use proper title and use proper term ?

    • @ArtOfDrummingHQ
      @ArtOfDrummingHQ  6 років тому +5

      However basic the poly-rhythms in this song are still poly-rhythms and some of us will find it difficult to play all of these patterns at once let alone understand what is going on which I'm trying to educate :) And the way this song makes it all sound musical is what makes this worth doing. I won't go dig up some crazy song with complex layers of poly-rhythms if it doesn't at least sound like music to my ears.
      I'm sorry you didn't find what you were looking for here Arief, I hope you find it elsewhere. All the best!

    • @int_enc
      @int_enc 6 років тому

      Wei Lung Wong Thanks for your reply..Yeah, everyone have different kind of opinions about what is musical or not. I think its not about complex song or whatever, its about interaction..If you listen to lots of Vinnie Colaiuta recordings, there's much subtle phrasing that if we listen to it only once then it going unnoticed..sometimes the song is very simple and singable, but he can do crazy polyrhythm around that..and its real musical..

  • @cremejockey8636
    @cremejockey8636 6 років тому

    You're so wrong on the time signature. It is not an 8 on the bottom. Its too slow. You can count it a lot of ways but this shit isn't in 13/8. You can count 7/4 and 5/4 in some parts. Its a classic rush thing. Add up 7+5 thats 12 thats where u get the 3 and 4 polyrhythm. He did that to make it add up. Danny carey does this too. Not to be mean. But you thought way too much

    • @hengli7372
      @hengli7372 6 років тому +1

      why I feel 13/8 make sense?

    • @cremejockey8636
      @cremejockey8636 6 років тому

      Heng Li its too slow to have 8 on the bottom. Its in 5 and 7

    • @mikeandyholloway
      @mikeandyholloway 6 років тому +1

      You can easily count 13/8 right up until the first breakdown (which only feels near-halftime because of the subdivisions in the first ~1:30).
      If you're going to use a condescending tone then own it, saying "Not to be mean." after "You're so wrong" and "you thought way too much" makes you sound like a child.

    • @mikeandyholloway
      @mikeandyholloway 6 років тому +1

      Furthermore, the official sheet music has it written in 13/8 so the only person who's "So wrong" here is you by the looks of it.
