Animals as Leaders? Ah, you mean that one band with 2 guitarists, 3 bassists, 3 drummers, and only 3 people? Oh, yeah, I know them, they're fire
And the drummer with 3 arms.
Just saw them last night, and I don't think my life will ever be the same😢
@jeffcron931 If they come to Brazil, I am taking a 2h flight to see them
@@J4YDEEThey came to Brazil twice. I've only gone once 😢
@@AlexdeJesusR o problema é que é sempre em SP kakakakaka
Unofficial title for this song should be The Swollen Web on account of how jacked the bois are looking
They should retitle their album "Weightlifting"
@Rob look at matt, dude.. if he doesn't do weight lifting then imagine if he touches a barbell,
Lmaooo I was literally just thinking how buff these guys are then I saw this comment 🤣
@Rob you sleep as hell tosin lifts
@@Marta1Buck yeah Matt did a webcast about a month ago and someone asked him about his fitness/lifting. He mentioned that he’s been doing for the past 7 years but with COVID he’s gotten a bit more focused there. Good stuff - More power/endurance for the drums.
Matt looks like he just soloed a dungeon and came out buffed af
@MMAtias Asconeguy Raco yeah, but still he's fluider than we could ever imagine being (if we dont practice of Course lol) but i get what you mean
If you listen closely you can hear matts drums calling him daddy throughout the song.
@Benji *Ahhhhh yameta kudasai Matt senpai*
Alright, I hate myself
Ah, I see you’re a man of culture as well
you can also hear me calling him daddy
I would like to apologize
Time code please
Matt is looking progressively less home schooled each year.
Hahaha thank you!
and Tosin looking less like an American Apparel model and more like a museum curator
@@hamptonsmith7638 that’s so fucking accurate 🤣🤣🤣
@@hamptonsmith7638 hahahahhaha
Why nobody talks about Javier ? Even in what he's look alike this guy is underrated :/
I love how Matt puts that sick fill before the song breaks at 2:17 and Javier looks at Tosin and him like: Damn bro. Then Tosin smiles hahaha. And after that, he puts another fill at 2:32 that's isn't in the record and Javier reacts with his head enjoying af... Beautiful ppl
That second fill is fucking brutal
He always does those fills Everytime they play it live tho. Matt is one of the few drummers who improvises his solos but those fills you mentioned he does Everytime live. Makes the song way better.
Hell yeah. I mean sextuplets with the feet and the hands doing quarter note triplets over it is fuckin tasty shit
@@andyham6094 I think the deeper purpose is also a musical count off so they don't have to rely purely on counting in their head and hoping to stay on time
Matt Garstka might be the most underrated drummer of all time, absolutely mind blowing drumming skills
My vote is for Mike Portnoy... he's freaking awesome!!
@@candyapple5227 It's definitely Matt lol, Portnoy is incredible but Matt is robotic to simply put it lol
Sean Reinert, Gavin Harrison, Marco Minneman, Baard Kolstad, Jamie St Merat, Jay Postones, Jose Pasilas too
@@billcosby12344321 elliot hoffman
I don’t know how tf Thomas Lang doesn’t get a mention. You wanna talk robotic? Anywho, Matt is bloody amazing
Imagine being in bands like this...
couldn’t be me👀
I just can’t. It’s not possible
It's giving me anxiety just thinking about it 🤣
"Alright guys so I guess I'll hit the play button on the click track and you guys just do your thing and I'll hit stop when the song is up"
I reckon i could do the vocals
These guys are the true 8 string guitar players!!!
True and probably the best ones out there right now
@@acejacks00 exactly
That's Meshuggah tbh. But these guys are one of the best bands to emerge out of their influence
Holy shit this mix is phenomenal! Even with $15 headphones the clarity between all three instruments (and the backing ambient stuff) is pristine.
this mix is amazing!
I feel like metal is one of those genres that sound good on anything. I drove a car a while ago that had speakers so shitty and the only thing i could play was anything metal
@@Zkipee nah it all depends on the mix
animals as leaders is still my happiest accidental discovery. I saw them open for Underoath like 10 years ago and have been a fan ever since. All three dudes are equally as insane.
Just 3 prog boys who like to vibe, who could argue with that
Bro, it's one thing to like this song from the album and it's another to see and feel Matt's dynamic play at 2:08 into 2:19 Javier into Tosin's solo wow dude! Best showcase of all these guys here!!!
Watching these guys I realize they have practiced 3 hours for every hour I have practiced but also for every hour that I have ever been asleep, and I'm 43
The band that drummer can be a melody and the guitarist become the metronome.
What are you saying man
This song performed like this makes me feel alive .
Without a doubt the greatest breakdowns of any metal song ever.
So this is metal?
@@walterhouse9406 well it’s not lo-fi hip hop
@@walterhouse9406 Animals as leaders is Prog Metal
I wonder if they ever hate themselves for a moment while performing for writing such complex songs.
Imagine having a cold an dry having to play minimum 40 minutes of that with the stage lights and everything!
If I had to guess, and speak for them, I would say It does become muscle memory after playing it10,000 times. Initially they might hate themselves but once they get to this level with a song, its probably not too bad to just spit the song back out again.
@@riccokane it's definitely no longer a challenge for these guys to pull that out BUT that doesn't make the task any less challenging in itself
@@juancarlossuarez7486 sure, but Godzilla is talking about them hating themselves for writing difficult songs.
@@riccokane I can pretty much see what he's hypothetically proposing: the guy having a huge hangover (or a strong cold) from last night out (you can have one or both if you're not careful going out) grabbing his head with both hands and saying to himself something like "why did I write this in the first place?" or perhaps "I should have started a punk band", and laughing at himself before playing next tune. Not literally hating themselves for making complex songs but in a funny way. Muscle memory is definitely a thing but when it comes to performing it's more of a "requirement for decency" than a relief achieved by accumulation: no matter how many times I've played this same tune, every time I want to play it again I must will my hands through the motions (I have to repeat the physical and also the mental efforts which are necessary for the music to play, we can't just "have the music play and turn our mind off") and the level and quality of the body's response to the will of the mind is rarely stable, since it varies with every slight change in our body's vital constants
Tldr: I'm pretty sure that at some moments in their touring career they would probably have felt beaten up and said "sh*t now I have to play THIS"
1:31 is disgustingly gooood!!
I had no idea Javier played the slap part too, that fact that he supports Tosin so well as a rhythm guitarist makes him even more badass in my mind
This is just one big mindfuck with the 9/8, 7/8, 4/4 and 3/4 xD
And 7/4 lmaooo
Still my ultimate fav from them. This song amazes me every time.
I just discovered this band the other day. I have MS and this music makes me feel alive. They are for lack of a better word, virtuosos!
1:07 sounds like Matt got lost there for a second, although he probably didn't. These guys are top notch
I will never ever get tired of this song
An impressive display of hand and eye coordination right here.
Not to mention the tune itself sounds badass
at 1:34 is the first time i've seen tosin mess up, he is so amazing
Same for Matt tbh, looks like he screwed up at 1:07
I can't imagine being this good in a band like this, seriously. How do you not just get goosebumps and tears the whole time when on stage nailing this shit? I'd be off the PLANET
Don't need to say amazing performance BUT let's acknowledge the video crew who did an amazing job, the editor and grader... ;) Great job!
Damn...I think Gartska spent 2020 locked in a gym somewhere. I saw him playing with the Generation Axe tour (Vai, Malmsteen, Abasi, etc) in 2016 and he looked notably drawn and scrawny that night (although still sounding great for the 3 hour set!).
This is so crazy good. Can't wait for the new album.
Seen these men live, twice. I’m having show/concert withdrawals.
The legend says Abasi counted from zero to infinite. Twice!
much props to the guys for putting together a live performance.. much needed
my toxic trait is thinking that i can learn this song on guitar in like a day
They are great in the studio. I don’t know why I don’t enjoy them live
I don’t enjoy them nearly as much live
It’s really hard to get the same tone live. Even if they’re amazing, I’m sure they do many takes in the studio getting their taps, thumps, and plucks PERFECT, so much so that they can’t replicate if exactly in a live setting. Except Matt, he’s a robot.
@@vextierier9938 its their lack of presence on stage that makes it boring
Matt looking swol af
he is jacked!
He's larger than Tosin now
he ripped af
hell yeah, my man got ripped
Damn ssj3 built ass haha
The drummer is insane!
I love this song🙌
4 minutes of absolutely insane talent !
The drive on his bass could taxi me to the moon 🚀
I get to see them live in October and I couldn't be more stoked
Yesssss
The best ever.
compositional and technical level: god
Watching these guys play is just summat else man
Oh man, Matt is unbelievable. And qhen the thumping starts, my jaw drops all the time. Tosin and Javier are unbelievable. This song is unbelievable. AAL is unbelievable. I'm crazy to see these guys live some day!!!
They really got this one tightened down
On low register, I think Javier's guitar is slightly better than Tosin in this session. Easily tell on the thumping parts.
The drive on Tosin's guitar/amp sounds really shrill. I'm not audio engineer so I'm sure that's what they were going for, but it does sound off to me at points in this song.
It look like tosin is doing more of straight amp head and javier is using his Axe fx which if youve ever had the luck of playing an Axe fx the clarity you get out of it is on another level. It's like putting sound in 4k
i agree. javi’s low end has more presence but i think that’s on purpose
I think tosins tone is rigged more for soloing than low end rhythm parts like javier’s
Javier is way more clean than Tosin
this mix is one of the best that I've ever heard. Congrats to the mister who built it like that
Looks very cool! Sounds excellent!
My favourite band
If this video gets played on every Tv screen on the market would rise the sales, because of the colors, music, etc
Fantastic!!
2:08 nasty part straight from beat heaven
Dude matts just the man.
legends
Why is nobody commenting about what ungodly insanity Matt pulled at 3:30?? 32nd notes at this tempo bro haha
Yes.
My cats are headbanging
Saw you last night at House of Blues. So amazing. Your sound is so heavy live it is jawdropping.
This was an awesome show
One of their best songs! I'm still learning this one
You learned it?
I learned it in the drums
On
@@maddexrowe8391 You should make a cover of it then, you'd be huge if you're able to successfully cover this one. Put it up on youtube and profit
🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
These have to be the best 6 thumbs in all of music.
How can you be getting tighter during COVID? Ridiculous... inspiring all of us. Thank you
Definitely a masterpiece
Nailed the sound!
@@TiTiTiTiT you're crazy
@@TiTiTiTiT As far as live performances go this is freakin' on point
so good
❤️❤️❤️
They make they most difficult rhythms look so easy to just groove to
bravo, this is talent
My God this new Anaheim show is insane! They've grown just overall in their sound, just more solid and it feels like they're even more comfortable within this music and I'm not saying that they weren't comfortable before cuz they were, always have been but to me it seems like they've grown....
Oh, yeah!
Came for the dual double-tapping, stayed for the polyrhythmic thumb slapping.
Victor Wooten called: he wants his thumb back.
Sick
So profound!
Tosin is unreal.
🖤
GODS.
Now i believe ,, the endless possibility of playing the guitar ... as well as drums..
If i saw this live I'd probably break something
long haired matt... SICK!
"I like my girls T H I C C"
"How T H I C C"?

what guitar is jhavier playing? I know its a LTD ESP but what is that blue/pink model called?
Despite how complicated it sounds , this is actually super easy to sing
yeah good god
Does anyone know where I can get this album as a vinyl?
If Tosin was a drummer....he would be Matt Garska!!!
when did mac start playing drums
Holy fuckin shit!!! 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Jordan Rudess brought me here 👍👍
Who came here after watching Jordan Rudess playing Woven web ? Lol
Me
The fucking foot work. 😍
Spacetime just got so warped!
2:39 tosin is using Line 6 Helix?
