This is the closing number of Pete Townsend and The Who's second rock opera, Quadrophenia. A story about an English teenager with multiple personality disorder who finally finds some peace. The use of reign and rain make the emotion even more powerful
In my personal opinion, this is one of the greatest rock ballads ever written and performed. Strong yet longingly powerful.
The only problem I have with the Who is that their name should actually be called The Wow! Always has and always will be my favorite band and this song is a testament to their greatness. Love your reaction!
Heard this song a thousand times and It still gives me the goose bumps!!
This is one of the greatest songs ever written
I LOVE watching the younger generation experiencing the magic of The WHO.
i love you girls ,it great to see two beautiful young ladies appreciate probably the best rock band ,playing probably the best rock ballad of all time, you girls rock
I saw the Who live, twice. 1984 and 1992. The Who are one of the huge influential bands that came from the 60's-- The Beatles, The Who, Led Zeppelin and The Stones and Pink Floyd. They are very legendary. Thank you for doing this review, you girls ROCK!!!!!
I saw the who live in England last year and roger daltrey hit the high note in the end like it was nothing at all.. he’s like 80 years old 😃 it was amazing, I’ll never forget that concert.
I’m only 30 and I was so glad to be able to see them live.
Roger Daltry's voice matches perfectly with the intense energy the rest of the band brings. Best screamer in Rock & Roll
I wouldn´t call him a screamer. He has the strongest voice in the rock
@@citizenkane4831 He's got a great voice but also possesses the most toned scream in Rock
I still say Roger doesn't get as much print as he should with having such a wonderful singing voice.
I listen to this song and I get goosebumps
...the peaceful piano seems to play along with the rain.
.....the drums like rolling thunder...
....the lyrics that are so expressive....the passion of love, the playfulness of love, the peaceful, calming, exhilarating, encouraging, refreshing effects of true love can give to the human soul....
....the vocals throw into sharp detail the absolute desperation of one alone without love.....the singer is aching, longing, despairing for love to pour over his soul!
I'm wearing a BIG FAT smile non my face just seeing the two of them wearing The Who t-shirts. Thanks girls.
As a teen in the late 60's, this girl I knew dragged me to a concert in Dallas to see Herman's Hermits, a quaint and very pop band. Fortunately for me, the opening band I hadn't heard of was.... The Who.
They played Happy Jack, Jumpin Jack Flash. My Generation. an early song from what would become Tommy. Then they freaked out the entire Texas crowd by bashing their instruments to pieces on stage. Musically, my life would thereafter never be the same.
They played Jumpin' Jack Flash by the Stones? I wouldn't be surprised if they played a Stones song because Townshend was a known fun of them but Jumpin' Jack Flash came out in 1968...
@@urivan9613 lol, no, sorry, you're' right of course. I was conflating Happy Jack, I guess.
But they became much much better in the early seventies
The whole quadrophenia album is a masterpiece..and the film is also a cult classic ! X
Phenomenal vocal performance by Roger Daltry. You can feel the emotions in his singing and the music accentuates this as well.
Best taken in context, this is the last, climactic song of the two-album opus _Quadrophenia_ and is a suicidal youth mulling the meaning of life. It's still a showstopper at Who concerts because Roger Daltrey still has crazy pipes.
He really doesn't anymore.
@@ralphboyle Actually he does. Here is a link to a song off the most recent album by The Who that was released in 2019 called "Beads On One String": ua-cam.com/video/cCNfyDnfwWg/v-deo.html Roger's voice is AMAZING on that song!
@@bostonwhofan I disagree. That song shows that his voice is much diminished (unsurprisingly given his age).
@@ralphboyle HE DOES! he had serious vocal problems a few years ago and went to one of the top doctors in the world in Boston. He got it back. Obviously it's not the same as when he was 40, but it's exceptionally good for his age. He still has the tone.
@@loosilu I've seen The Who like 10 times over the past 20-25 years and R.D. open for Clapton. He definitely has lost more than a few steps. He can have vocal cord surgery, but that doesn't tend to help all that much. He completely lost his voice in 2019.
It is epic. Pete Townsend lyrics, guitar and piano, Roger Daltrey signing, Keith Moon drumming and John Entwhistle on bass. Try Behind Blue Eyes. Great song as well, with a nice change halfway through. They have so many great songs. Saw them perform 5 times in YYZ in the 70's, 80,s. Legends!!!
Anthem … is the word.
Young girls, your reaction to this epic song from The Who woke up my own reaction when I heard this song for the very first time many years ago.Thank you
Great choice. Quadrophenia is my favorite Who album by far. Every track is excellent. Rock on ladies rock on. 😁👍🏻🤘🏻🔥🤘🏻
I agree, but must admit "Who are you" is my other favorite album of them. Cannot decide which I like more, they are both my Number 1.
Quadrophenia is awesome. It's Who at its best in terms of songwriting and performances. My only issue with this album is the title because it perpetuates the common misconception on schizophrenia, which IS NOT a multiple personality disorder.
Tuff choice between Quadraphenia and Whos Next
Nothing puts a smile on my face than to see two adorable girls enjoying REAL music not only that, but enjoying the music of THE WHO!
This album, "Quadrophenia", like their previous record, "Who's Next", I played to death when I was your age back in the 80's in Toronto, Canada. Not sure if I understood it all back then but it resonated, like all of Pete Townshend's and The Who's music throughout my youth, and it left an indelible mark on me. Ah, I can't tell you the number of ways this explosive music and these lyrics perfectly captured all the rage, anger, doubt, attractiveness, fight, love, desire, strength, coolness, and awkwardness I felt being young at many different times. I am so happy to see your response. Terrific analysis. Well done!
I'm so very glad that you appreciated not only Daltry's amazing vocals, but also the musical performance that takes this to another level. It's amazing on so many levels!
I learned something. Never knew this was The Who. It's an epic song that gives you goosebumps.
THIS SONGS CONVEYS THE PAIN OF BEING BI POLAR...I NEVER WASS STILL TO FIND LOVE..BUT THERE ALWAYS HOPE..IM 62..IT'S AL,MOST OVER...
The vocals are insane, emotional and powerful.
watching you two react to the music i grew up teared me up..
One of the best vocal performances of all time, pairedwith an orchestra. What a great production. Great choice!!!
I don't think there was an orchestra used in this studio recording. Just Keith Moon on the tipany drums at the start and the ultra talented Pete Townshend on piano, synthesizers and as the album credits stated..the remainder.
From my favourite album I was lucky that I saw The Who when did the Quadrophenia tour in the 90s and I still have my back stage pass
I saw them perform in 1976 in St Louis the electricity went out so they turned on the auxiliary floodlights and he sang without a microphone he has the loudest projection of anyone I've ever heard! Nice selection girls!
Hi Girls, This is one of the Who's Greatest songs. This is why most lyrics are like poems because you never hear someone say " the way the beach is kissed by the sea" to describe "only love can make it rain"
One of their greatest, IMO.
Anytime I see two young people listening and appreciating the Who, it's a win!
The who have literally hundreds of great songs. Like epic tunes like.
Young man's blues or Magic bus. Keep the whoooo coming.
Thanks you two for your reaction! One of my very favorite Who songs and what I consider to be Roger Daltrey’s best vocal. The older I get, the more I love this song. It’s great to see young people appreciate it to! Oh, love your T-shirts too!
That song starts off very simply and ends with such power and intensity. The intros of songs by The Who are incomparable for their uniqueness in setting the table for what follows.
Was lucky enough to see them in 1975 (probably before you were born) in Greensboro, NC. Alas, Mia you will get a chance to see them live as two of the original members have passed. The entire album "Quadrophenia" is a masterpiece! This song is the cherry on the top......Just a little factoid: Pete Townsend wrote, produced, played all keyboards and the guitar on this one. You need to listen to the entire album...it will take you on a journey.
Ohh man I love this tune! This is definitely one of my favorite who’s song! 🎧 very powerful!👌😎👍goosebumps! Great reaction girls!👏😎
Greatest live rock band ever
Great to see your dad bought you Who T-shirts after your reaction to Don't Get Fooled Again 😂😂👍👍👍
Roger's singing is so powerful i never noticed Moonie back there killin it on the drums
I really love the synthesiser riff, in the 70’s synth’s we’re analog and needed to be manually setup
I'm just glad you picked the album version and not the original single. I found a copy of an extended edition of 'Quadrophenia' and this one still stands out to me. Lyrically and musically, it is way ahead of most of the other singles of its time. Still timeless...
And I had that exact same 'Maximum R&B' t-shirt in high school!
Love, love, love this song by The Who! Another rain song! This one is #2 behind The Rain Song by Zeppelin but I have to say that with being a Zeppelin fan...lol. I love Roger's vocals on this song. He sings with so much passion. The rest of the band just kill it with their playing. I could easily see the two of you loved this one. How can you not? The Who put out some fantastic songs. I do hope you continue to explore their music and to hear how much it changed over the years. If the two original members, Roger and Pete, ever get back together to tour, you MUST have your dad take the two of you to see them. I was lucky enough to see them once. Excellent in concert. You go girls...loved your singing at the end of your video! Great way to end it by ROCKING IT OUT! That is why I love the two of you. Great video reaction once again. Can't wait for more. Love & Blessings! 💖
Saw them 6 times including once with Keith Moon on drums so saw the original band in all their glory. That band was a force of nature and top 10 band regardless of genre. When I saw them John Entwhistle was the bassist all but the last time, he was the best bassist I ever saw. More of The WHO please. 😎 Rock On!
Thanksgiving night, Nov. 22, 1973, The Who at The Forum in Inglewood CA. The greatest concert in the history of rock music took place that rainy evening. Walking back to the car, we knew: nothing...ever...could top that. Nothing ever did. If you were one of the 20 thousand, you'll understand.
I saw The Who in 1982 on their "farewell tour". It was at the old JFK stadium in Philly. The opening bands were: The Clash, Santana, and The Hooters. Saw them again about 7 or 8 years ago and they still rocked my culo!
Girls I saw the Who, 2019 prepandemic. They came out with a 40 piece orchestra, played and hour and half, played 6 more songs with just them and then the orchestra came back out! 3:45 hours I was exhausted. What a show!! Look for a video of the song Baba O'riely!
My brother got to see The Who and I've always been jealous. John Cougar Melloncamp, then AC/DC opened. 2 awesome opening acts, then The Who. The show was over 4 hours long. He's always said, his favorite concert. And we've seen a lot of bands from Pink Floyd to Rage Against The Machine from the 70s through the 90s.
One of the greatest rock songs ever. Epic on top of epic. But you really need to hear it in conjunction with the whole Quadrophenia album. Unbelievably epic.
Awesome job and reaction once again , ladies. l First listened to The Who at your age and they had so much meaning and feeling in their songs. I loved them. Now even as an old dude at 50+ , still love em and seeing younger people hear and enjoy them is great.
Your reaction and comments are great and you think out what you say. I have seen people probably twice your age and more who cannot do what you do. I am sure you will be successful in what ever you choose to do.
All the best...
Thank you so much Jimmy for your kind comment! : )
ONE OF THE ALL TIME GREATEST ROCK SONGS EVER!
I saw them live. In Cincinnati in 79. It was one of the saddest days of my young life. I was about your age. In my late teens. I have never gotten over the pain and anger I felt that night. I let you Google it to understand why. I don’t like talking about it. It’s to painful.
As for this song, so you can relate. Close your eyes while listening to it. Now imagine you have these feelings of being of no worth or importance to anyone. Standing on a beach you swim out to a rock in the water and you stand there, in the rain, with your arms and face lifted to the sky feeling the rain and letting this song wash over you.
Then you will not only intellectually know what this song means. You will feel what this song means.
Everyone has their favorite music and I think that depends on when you are exposed to it. I started following the Who when I was around Juliet's age. An older friend had me listen to the Who's rock album Tommy and I was blown away by the studio perfection, emotion and musical talent of this band. Two years later they released the Who's Next album with 2 of Rock's greatest anthems Won't Get Fooled Again and Baba O'Riley. Just when I thought this band was the best ever they then released Quadrophenia 2 years after Who's Next. Quadrophenia has 4 musical and lyrical themes based on the personality of each band member. It is my favorite Who album. It opens with The Real Me which is probably the greatest Bass/Drum Rock song ever and ends with the epic Love Reign O'er Me, which fittingly is the guitarist and song writer Pete Townshend's theme. Stunningly great.
Great reaction to an epic song! Can't go wrong with the Who!
You should have heard it in the 70's as a teenage boy at that awkward age. It just struck a cord with us.
So glad that you ladies reacted to this epic masterpiece! This is the kind of vibe that is transcendental and transformative as it literally makes your heart and soul yearn to be loved. Love Reign O'er Me is amongst the greatest rock ballads of all time and stands the test of time! Thanks for your reaction Mia & Juliet, I love seeing the excitement as you experience new music.
Wooohooo! You ladies just reacted to my all time favorite song by The Who! Roger Daltry has one heck of a voice, doesn't he? If you thought his scream was good in this song, wait until you hear the greatest scream in rock history in the song "Won't Get Fooled Again"! Great reaction, and as always, lots of love to both of you!
Another song with a great scream by Roger is "Bargain"!
I saw the WHO in July of 1980 in Memphis TN. About a little over 3hr show. I have been to over 300 shows in my life and the WHO was the ABSOLUTE BEST I have ever SEEN PERIOD !!! In the movie the main character committed suicide at the end of this song as it was also the end of the story/movie. You gotta see the movie !!
I've seen The Who live twice. The first time, they sang this song, and it started to rain.
You have to watch Young Man Blues- Live at Isle of Wight. The Who at their peak were the best live band. Great reaction to a beautiful song ✌💜🎶
I love the lyrics of this song.
Great reaction by one of the greatest duets on the entire Youube - Dana's Faith, Mia and Juliet!! For more Greatness by The Who some day, please consider Behind Blue Eyes, Won't Get Fooled Again, Se Me Feel Me/Listening To You, PInball Wizard, My Generation and 5:15! Better yet, listen to all of the rock operas Tommy and Quadrophenia! I wish you continued great success girls!!
You two are a total joy to watch.
Of all the bands that ever existed, one of the absolute best to see, were The Who.
One of my favorites by the who
As an older person, I was lucky enough to see them in concert at Madison Square Garden for the Who By Numbers tour in 1975 way before you girls were born. They put on a great show! I love your enthusiasm for great rock music. Keep on rockin!
I'm not a Who's fan but this was WOW!
Saw them 10 or 15 years ago in Boulder Colorado!!! They were like 2 hrs late!!! But played 3 hrs almost all their songs and had one short intermission!!! And ended their show with Eminence Front
"Quadrophenia" in my opinion is their most complex album. There are a few other of their albums just as great, but this is my favorite. This song is the last one on the 2 LP album. Daltrey's vocals are incredible. I think he and Robert Plant were likely the two most powerful singers at that time. Both incredible frontmen too. You should listen to the entire album in order. It tells a great story and you can't fully appreciate it if you don't hear all of it. By the way I saw them in 1988 and they were awesome!
watch the documentary, The Kids Are Alright. its about the Who and has a bunch of live performances. or see, Quadrophenia, a rock opera movie by the Who.
And don't forget the film Tommy . That deaf dumb and blind kid sure plays a mean pinball
So did I when it first came out with a ton of other fans of The Who at the Old Rahway Theatre in '79. thirty years later I got my hands on the DVD for $10.00
YEE GIRLS.. YEE Nation. Mia and Juliet you guys are the best .thank you very much!! Absolutely great reaction completely honest. Mia for president 2050 YEE Nation
I have seen The Who about 10 times now, I wish I was born to see them in there prime but even with them now they are one of the best bands to see and listen to! MY ALL TIME FAVORITE BAND!
Oh, I hope you can see The Who. Pete and Roger still sometimes perform as The Who, but of course it can't be the same as 50 years ago, because we lost a fantastic drummer and bass player.
Thx! Reign como dos reinas! And rain like cool, cool rain! -Terry
Quadrophonic, the number one album of the number one band. Try "5:15" and "Can You See The Real Me?"
I did see The Who, 1976, and it was outstanding
Love this song. Very cool reaction video ladies! You're the best. 👏👏👏❤
The Who is one of the greatest live rock bands ever. I've seen them three times.... but unfortunately I never saw them with Keith Moon playing drums.... however, Zak Starkey (who is Ringo Starr's son) does a very credible job of filling Keith Moon's unique shoes
It aught to be powerful, it culminates with our hero taking his own life
It's necessary to understand the word "reign" I believe, to get the full meaning and power of this song. It means to have full control over, dominion, and power. Love, reign over and RULE me. If only it would be so in this world...
Absolutely great reaction you girls hit it on the head I think this is going to be one of your biggest videos
Saludos desde Argentina chicas las quiero
There is a movie called “Reign over Me” that came out a couple of years ago and this song is played in the background. Adam Sandler sings the chorus when he feels the pain from 9/11.
Great reaction girls!
If you love The Who and want to hear more like them, you might want to check out the band that I always think of as being the most like The Who. That would be The Kinks. Both bands started out as simple three chord dance club bands (but gradually got more sophisticated), both are VERY British, both were active at approximately the same times, both covered similar themes with their lyrics...and both are GREAT.
Suggestions for Kinks songs (in no particular order):
1. "A Well Respected Man"
2. "Victoria"
3. "Till the End of the Day"
4. "Tired of Waiting for You"
5. "All Day and All of the Night"
6. "Sunny Afternoon"
7. "Lola"
8. "Waterloo Sunset"
9. "You Really Got Me" (You're sure to have heard this one)
I hope you check The Kinks out.
That's the genius of Pete Townsend right there. I love seeing young people get blown away by these old classic songs, they don't write 'em like that anymore
Rodger Daltrey has such a beautiful, powerful voice!!
Hi girls, this is the epic ending to the classic Who Quadrophenia album from 1973, this was the band at their creative peak, the 4 year period of 69-73 produced their best albums Tommy, Live at Leeds, Who's Next and Quadrophenia, the band never sounded so good and live they were not only the loudest but up there with the Stones and Zeppelin as one of the best live bands of the 70s, listen to the drumming of the late great Keith Moon, he and John Bonham were on a different planet to other drummers, both drummers and The Ox John Entwistle so sadly gone now.
Can you imagine if Stevie Ray Vaughan and the singer of The who got had got together this has to be one of the 10 best vocals of all time.
Roger Daltrey is one of the most underrated vocalists in Rock, in the top 2 or 3 imho. Keith (KEEF) Moon is an absolute legend on drums. You've already heard "won't get fooled again" so your next Who song should be "Baba O'Reilly" "Who Are You" "Pinball Wizard" or for a great rock ballad "Behind Blue Eyes" I love that you're enjoying our British bands like Led Zep, Deep purple, Sabbath, The Who .......we have lots more for you to try
You might be talking about the synthesizer line in the song. Great reaction girls!
Love this incredible song. Awesome reaction. I love the Who shirts
the youth getting in to the who is amazing
easy sub
keep them coming ladies :)
EPIC.
Saw them times live. WOW WHO
This song comes from their double album Quadrophenia (like schizophrenia). It's a concept album about a kid with issues set against the 1960s Mods and Rockers battles in British seaside towns. The whole album is extraordinary. Anything by The Who is great. To my mind Who's Next is their pinnacle LP.
Love this reaction ladies!! Leena and I look forward to both of your smiles! YEEE!!🌹🌹
To open up like Roger Daltrey require that you go to a place where no one can hear your and sing at the top of
your lungs. I used to, back in the early seventies, ride my bicycle into the Hollywood Hills and hike way far away from folk and I screeched my lungs out. Later on I learned from singers how to do stuff without hurting myself. Not a bad way to spend an afternoon. Mojave Desert even better. I didn't ride my bicycle to the desert I went with a friend and when she heard me screeching she freaked. It didn't matter. She was very shy about singing yet she wrote wonderful songs.
Hola Chicas! Well I guess there's really only one word to describe this one, and it's not even a word, just 🤘. I've Been enjoying this one for decades, it's such a dramatic classic rock song, highlighting Roger Daltrey's vocals. Great reaction as always guys. Ps, love the t-shirts.
I was lucky enough to see The Who play live a number of times in the 1970s. I’ve never seen better.
The Who are 4 atom bombs on the stage at 1 time!
All 4 were stars in their own right. Very rare in a band.
One of the few bands I hugely regret never being able to see. I’m 55 and have seen a lot of bands.
This song stands near the top of Rock perfection both musically and lyrically. This is a definitely a song that u can say that they don't make ones like this anymore. Today's music pales in comparison to songs like this. Sheer and utter brillance. Thank u so much for doing a reaction to this song.
