I was born in 1956, so I'm 64 this year. Jamel, your Musical Time Machine has transported you back to the "home" you never knew you had. I get goosebumps just watching you respond to to the music that moved us back in the day. I was 17 in 1973 when I met my high school sweetheart. She was 15. We married that summer of 1978, right after I graduated from college. This year, we will celebrate our 42nd anniversary. In 2002, I went to the wrong urologist and experienced the Vasectomy from Hell. I'm pretty sure Dr Foul-Up took the lidocaine himself and gave me a saline solution, because the "anesthesia" had no effect: The pain of the procedure was hair-raising, and his only response to my screams was to shout to his nurse to "Hold him down, Goddamnit!" Long story short: From the trauma of that "surgery," I developed Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy, a chronically painful disorder of involving my sympathetic nerve system, in which everything is all pain all the time. Even sensations that once were pleasurable are excruciatingly painful. Needless to say, any sort of conjugal relations with my wife became impossible. I have to grit my teeth just to cuddle. Yes, The Who is powerful, the energy of God 🙏💖 comes through their songs, manifested in the glory of Roger, Pete, John and Keith playing together. You are my favorite "Reactor," Jamel, because you get it on sooooo many levels. Thank you.
"O'er" is the poetic contraction of "over" making it one syllable. This is done so as to not mess up the meter of the verse. The word "over" is "trochaic", that is, the stress is on the first syllable. The opposite of "iambic" where the stress is on the second syllable.
@@bobthebear1246 Well it is both, right? Gotta love how English allows for creative folks to mess around with similar sounding words and their different meanings.
That song is like a symphony, constructed like classical music. The Who knew how to do that. If you get the chance, listen to (or watch) "Tommy" and "Quadrophenia", their two "rock operas". The term was coined for them. I loved your reaction to this one, you got the emotion.
Yes! The live version from VH1 rock honors, not the soundtrack version (soundtrack is good but live just displays how great Pearl Jam is). 43 year old Eddie slays it.

So beautiful! Do MY GENERATION - The Who's 1st breakthrough song, featuring Roger's infamous stutter-singing, and John Entwhistle's badass bass solos! Pete & Keith too, they all tear it up!
This has always been one of my favorite songs by The Who. They performed it during the Super Bowl halftime show several years ago. Although Roger Daltrey's voice seemed somewhat strained in that live performance, it remains one of my favorite halftime shows.
I remember that, and I don't think there's been a decent halftime show since. Of course, The Who would be a VERY TOUGH act to follow!! I will listen to an aging Daltrey ANYTIME!!💟
Of course the drums sound like thunder; they're being played by Keith Moon.
The thundering drums are tympani (aka "kettle drums"), player-tuned by a foot pedal.

Endless wandering, as I fall from grace
An earthbound sailor, I gaze upon her face
Firm as the horizon, seen but never reached
Marooned upon this shore, helpless forever beached
Moonlit laughter, dances in her smile
Wind and water rises, whimsical and vile
I slip below the surface, of a momentary grave.
It breaks upon my body, embrace the crashing wave
I hear the siren’s song
Endless is my love
I hear the siren’s song
Deny me not, my love
I hear the siren’s song
Embrace the crashing wave
Together we belong
The sun’s dawn light, shines upon her face
Trapped forever in her warm embrace
Drowning in dark tresses; greedily gulping air
Emotional waves vow, You, I will not spare
I hear the siren’s song
Endless is my love
I hear the siren’s song
Deny me not, my love
I hear the siren’s song
Embrace the crashing wave
Together we belong
Quietly cloaked in love’s warm glow
Spare me not My Lady, never let me go
Crush my heart, my angel of the sea
A shared vision into the depths of eternity
Rising to the heavens above
Freed from our momentary grave,
clothed in the light of our love,
We are the crashing wave
Drowning in dark tresses
I hear the siren’s song
Endless is my love
I hear the siren’s song
Deny me not, My Lady
I hear the siren’s song
We are the crashing wave
Together we belong
All that's messed up today - world crazy, "Why are the POETS SILENT?"
"Only love, can make it rain, the way the beach is kissed by the sea...."
I have to be careful not to preach
I can't pretend that I can teach
And yet I lived your future out
By pounding stages like a clown

O'er is poetic for "over". It's in the national anthem: "... 'o'er the land of the free and the home of the brave."
This is a great one from The Who.
Right. And a neat play on words between "reign" and "rain". Saying he wants love to "reign" over his life, to be the driving force, keeping him feeling fresh and alive like being caught in a warm summer rain.
One of the greatest rock songs of all time ! Just amazing vocals by Roger Daltrey
“Blew me out of the damn screen!” Imagine what it was like for me seeing them live!😜
I have ALWAYs love da whoooo? i SAW TEHM FIRST IN 67 ON A BASEBALL FIELD IN pHOENIX AZ . Iwas 13.. I have seen, sorry experianced the experiance a total of 9 times in my life . I am truly blessed. One time I won frnt row center from a radio station . unFUCKING REAL!!!! I walked around in a daze for days.. Its all still lgood with jsut pete and roger , but when kieth and john left , well THAT was teh day the "music died" noboddy but NOBODY could produce teh sound that they did from any divice or combination of diviices even with mixing tehm mon a sound board . They didt call him thunder finger for nothing., and keith , well what can be said? nothing . period. Pete caqn still write and perform but to create teh magic he made in the 60-90s well ya would have to bring teh boys back somehow., Rogers vocal courd need to go to tehr smithsonian next to eddisons last breath.
Roger's greatest vocal performance right there. Beautifully written by Pete.
The Who, Live at Leeds. have to see a good live one.
John Dorsey Young Man Blues!
My favourite version of magic bus
One of my favorite songs.. Your reaction is the same I had back in the 70s... The Who - guaranteed to melt a face off 🔮🥰🤟🏽🙌🏽🎶
Next Who song should be "5:15." It's chock full of goodness.
Uppers and downers
...either way blood flows.
Yessssssssssss
I was going to suggest this one! It's one of my favorite songs off this album, striking a perfect balance between quiet and loud.
Punk & The Godfather
The I Am The Sea/The Real Me! Don’t get me wrong. 5:15 is won by a nose second. Both are amazing. Quadrophenia is AMAZING! Start to finish.
Pete Townsend demonstrates how to create an orchestra with very primitive synthesisers and simple tape machines throw in the other three geniuses and Bobs You live in lover you have a rock classic
Jamel_AKA_Jamal: Who says that?
The Who: Yes.
Yes is next reaction
The Band?
@@brianl8481 No...they're next week😉
Chris Burns , starting off with Roundabout!
Yes:Who?
Who:Yes
My favorite song by them!
The drum that sounds like “thunder” is called a Tympani.
' In for a ride" ... hell yeah! That song is a piece of art in a musical gallery.
Jamel, at 10:03 when you said, "This band is amazing. I understand why you love them so much" made me tear up a bit! Yes, The Who is powerful, the energy of God 🙏💖 comes through their songs, manifested in the glory of Roger, Pete, John and Keith playing together. You are my favorite "Reactor," Jamel, because you get it on sooooo many levels. Thank you.
When you find your true love and your away from her... this is the song! GOD bless you brother.
This was a classic the moment it was released back in '73...
Saw this one live in southern california in the 90's.......most awesome concert ever!!
"O'er" is the poetic contraction of "over" making it one syllable. This is done so as to not mess up the meter of the verse. The word "over" is "trochaic", that is, the stress is on the first syllable. The opposite of "iambic" where the stress is on the second syllable.
It's so funny, because I grew-up thinking it was "Rain On Me."
I have learned something new today and it is getting harder to do because I have been around for a while now. Thanks David.
@@bobthebear1246 Well it is both, right? Gotta love how English allows for creative folks to mess around with similar sounding words and their different meanings.
Which bleedin school did you go to?!!!
Thanks
One of the best pieces of music ever, if this doesn't lift your spirits, nothing can...
That song is like a symphony, constructed like classical music. The Who knew how to do that. If you get the chance, listen to (or watch) "Tommy" and "Quadrophenia", their two "rock operas". The term was coined for them. I loved your reaction to this one, you got the emotion.
I love seeing you discovering the WHO.....YOU have the same smile & awe look, i had way back....
I'm glad you finally got to this one. It's one that everyone should listen to.
THE MIGHTY WHO
They always put it out there with everything they had...
Roger had some pipes for sure!
Pearl Jam does an incredible cover of this
VH1 Rock Honors: The Who from like 2007
Yes! The live version from VH1 rock honors, not the soundtrack version (soundtrack is good but live just displays how great Pearl Jam is). 43 year old Eddie slays it.
Easily in my top two or three covers ever
Indeed they do....Pearl Jam, an American treasure themselves!!!🇺🇸❤👍👍
I was lucky enough to attend that show, Pearl Jam's performance that night will never leave my memory. Foo Fighters were amazing as well and Tenacious D did Squeeze Box!
Heart does an AWESOME cover as well
Why does it make me so happy to watch you discover all my favorite songs? I envy you hearing this all for the first time..
One of the best songs ever recorded. Now go Listen to my Generation from the who Live at Leeds
Seen the Who live in their hay day back in the 70's. Good to see your appreciation of a musical classic. Love Reign over me. O'er me.
"Can't Find My Home" - Steve Winwood ~ "Carry On" - Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young
I have tears in my eyes, from laughing and crying !!! Great song ! Awesome reaction !
The beach kisses the sea “Who says that? Exactly!
Part of the joy of watching your reaction videos is that any and all music is new if it's new to you. We who have heard these songs before can hear them for the first time, vicariously through you. Keep on bringing the fun
A complete masterpiece of a song! Gotta be Daltrey’s best vocal!!
Bettye Lavette’s performance at the Kennedy Centre honours, honouring The Who, superb cover!!
Oh yah, Roger is sangin his ass off on this one ! Epic piece of music that grabs your attention the minute it starts. If you give "the real me" a listen you'll have a similar recation.
Great reaction Jamal - one of your best. I saw The Who live in the early 1970's in England - waited all night for tickets - one of the most exciting concerts I ever saw.
So beautiful!
Do MY GENERATION - The Who's 1st breakthrough song, featuring Roger's infamous stutter-singing, and John Entwhistle's badass bass solos! Pete & Keith too, they all tear it up!
Gotta be followed by The Punk Meets the Godfather, from Quadraphenia, referencing My Generation....
This is a fantastic song. By far my favorite song from the Who. It brings back a lot of fond memories from long ago.
Thank you !!
Jamal I love that you STILL get her flowers after 15 yrs. She's a lucky lady.
The live version of The Who’s “Young Man Blues”. That’s my all-time favorite live Who performance.
My favourite Who Song hands down
Should hear it live. Lord Rog. The Who one of my top 3 bands. Roger Daltrey voice is still on it at 76. RIP Moonie and Ox
right ion man love em all
Always, from the first time hearing it. My favorite song. Very possibly divinely inspired.
I saw them live in toronto a few months ago and the scream he did was damn impressive considering his age and how much hes used his voice
This is the correct reaction to this song. Thank you.
"Freedom" - Richie Havens, Woodstock will knock your socks off.
So true
Oh god! Takes me back to magical days. Thank you for having an open mind and heart - your willingness to listen to "foreign" music.
