The song is about a young man about to jump into the ocean to end it all. Then he realizes that love can save him (like a rain of cool water saves a man dying of thirst) and walks away from the ocean and back to his life. It makes me joyous every time I hear it...
I used to sing this while going through rain storms on my motorcycle. It always struck me as a cry to God for the love only He could give. GREAT song and album on so many levels.
I don't think I've ever seen you THAT quiet and wide-eyed after a song ended for THAT long in your vids. I can see that really had an effect on you. Fantastic reaction, I'm glad I subbed! 👍
He is CRYING OUT for the Universe to acknowledge his presence WITH LOVE. It ties into his beliefs, here's a quote from 2008. Very appropriate initial silence to hearing the closing track to one the greatest rock albums of all time. Pete Townsend’s masterpiece concept album that he said was the pinnacle of their musical career together. The whole album must be listened to in order to experience the brilliant song writing, instrumentals and emotional impact of the music. Great reaction.
I love the start of this song. You hear the rain falling, and the piano and drums give the feeling of a thunderstorm rolling in, then giving way to sunshine. Amazing use of musical instruments. And I haven’t begun to mention the lyrics and vocals yet.
great to see someone react with real emotion being swept away by the intensity of this story! As others have said, this is the final song of a 4 disc long rock opera album. Jimmy's been through so much, and this is finally when he prays to the heavens for Love. to me this is the peak of The Who, and Roger's best recorded vocals
You might like the whole opera. I listened to it daily after school throughout ninth grade. I’m old now, and this music has provided a lifetime of inner soundtrack.
That's a great reaction to this song. I don't know how so many other people react to this song and don't feel emotional - they just say "yeah good song."
I loove this song! And it´s my favourite band also. I like your reaction so much, because I felt the same when hearing it the first time. So overwhlmed. I´m not ashamed to confess, that I still got tears in my eyes listening to this song. keep on!!! Best greatings from Germany!
Loved seeing you experience this powerful plea Jayy 💞 I heard the same emotion.👍🔥as always, love your sensitivity to the music and always genuine reaction.
I haven't seen a bad reaction to this song, but yours is the best I've seen yet. Your mind was blown. As was and is mine every time I hear this majestic masterpiece.
My girl...I can't tell you how happy you made me when you said I LOVE THAT when you took the first break. THIS has always kinda been a love/hate relationship with people who say they are WHO fans. The Who - It's about time you heard it. Just playing with you. So much great music in the world to hear. Actually I thought you would get to this already as it is in the realm of popularity. I like to recommend others that fall by the way side like ELP and Jeff Beck RIP. There is a story behind Jeff and the 2007 crossroads concert. He needed a bass player, somebody recommended one and this young little girl shows up at his door. It thought it was a joke -- that is until she started playing. Within an hour he was comparing her to the legendary bass player Jaco Pastorius. The would be Tal Wilkenfeld. He became her mentor and treated her like daughter. -- (Jeff Beck, Freeway Jam + Blue Wind, Live in Japan 2009 Feb. 21) - Freeway Jam - is just a little snippet at the end of the bass solo.
This song is the climax of a rock opera called Quadrophenia. The story is the journey of troubled young people with this song a plea for love and peace, personal love...please...love rain on me. It's one of the great albums of the rock era
This song is about a young man about to end his life and realizes that love is the rain that can quench his thirst for life again. A very moving transcendent moment. Watch the movie Quadropenia and then listen to the entire album.
From 1973. 51 year's ago. There is no group you can ever listen to that is as phenomenal as The Who. I don't know why you play so few songs from them. So many people think of them as the greatest band in the history of music and you've played maybe 4 or 5 songs. Wow, what a loss for you. I'm so sorry you've missed out on so much great music from them. You said that might be the best song you heard all day? That song might be the best song anyone has ever heard in their life yet they have so many other songs that are just as good if not better so you got to get with it girl
Great reaction, really moved me to see how moved you were. So many levels of greatness, indeed! They *all* bring it: Pete Townshend, the composer, arranger, producer, and guitarist who also did the orchestration on synthesizer; Roger Daltrey the vocalist at his most operatic and powerful; and the supremely powerful rhythm section thunderstorm of John Entwistle on bass and the dynamic Keith Moon on drums. A stunning climax to an awesome album!
Keith was notorious for screaming at the top of his lungs while he Played the Drums...Many times his scream "bled" through the other drum mics. It's REALLY apparent on Quadrophenia as is Keith knocking down his cymbals at the end of Love Rain O'er Me
Not begging but demanding love!!!!! Not by far but still my favorite song by The Who!! I think you can just forget it about having music nowadays like we had back in the 70's!!! So many great groups in that decade and "The Who" is in my all-time top five!!!

That was prime vintage Who, flexing their muscles at full power. Roger just gave everything he had. Keith going mental on the drums. It's perfection. Enjoy Jayy.
The song conveys what it's like to be bipolar..... you know love is out there but you can't find it and feel it but you hope someday you'll find it.. the isolation and pain of not feeling loves tears every cell in your body... your reaction conveys you understand the pain and despair of a life without love . The final scream..pain but never giving up hope
I can relate to your emotions after you heard this track. When I bought Quadrophenia back in the day & heard this (last track on the album). I had to take a moment before listening to the album again.....
Ur wide eyes followed by "oh wow!", then silence...Girl, u just been blown away, again. Seems like w/ every Who song they get better & better. No stuff 😂
Wow, you picked up the meaning of the song on your first listen when you said it sounds like he's begging please reign on me. Love Reign O'er me is the last song on the album Quadrophenia by The Who which is a concept album/rock opera. On the album, the main character (Jimmy) is contemplating suicide. He came very close to succeeding. But his life was saved when he learned the most important thing in life is love. Hence, Love Reign O'er Me. He steals a boat and ends up stranded on a rock island in the rain watching his life flash before him while coming down off his drugs and alcohol. That ending song is a begging, pleading for love
Now thats how you finish an album! When the singer Roger Daltrey, recorded this in 1978-9 he was 35, and his voice was peaking, and was just about at its best. He still tours with Pete Townsend the only two surviving members of The Who. He still belts this song out, but now being 79 he can’t just quite hit those high notes. Not surprising really. But at hie peak, in my opinion, Daltrey was the best of the best of rock singers.
Omg, Jayy, the look on your face when he hit that last note had me rolling, lol. I love watching you react to the genres of music I grew up with, and I see you appreciate it so much. Thank you, sweetie ( I can call you that because I'm old enough to be your grandmother, lol ). ❤

Keith : "all of them"
