The three albums The Who released consecutively from 1969 to 1973, Tommy, Who’s Next, and Quadrophenia, are and incredible set of work and have to be considered one of the greatest runs in rock history. They took this band from being merely good, to a whole level that no one else was at or ever will be
How could you miss out 'Live At Leeds' (1970) in this run...? Not a studio album, but an example of The Who at their best. And The Who at their best live can't be beaten. It isn't possible.
I remember hearing this intro for the first time in 1973. I was in my 5th year of piano lessons and when I heard this I was like, “I want to play like that!” Then there’s Keith Moon’s masterful drums 💙♥️ I say it all the time, we really had the best music in the 1970’s. What an amazing time to grow up. I feel truly blessed 💙🎸🎤
The Who at their finest. Daltrey's vocals are astounding. And to answer Kel's question Quadrophenia is someone with four split personalities which the main character on the album Jimmy has.
Kel it is not embarrassing, you were just in a different environment, and because of your classical upbringing we are all able to enjoy this voyage of discovery with you and long may it continue, it's such fun.
I still get goose bumps and wanna cry when I hear this song. I'm so blessed to have grown up to this quality of music. You definitly have you sit this beautiful woman for a Who marathon!
Yeah 1966 here and growing up listening to this stuff in my teens really did a lot of forging on my personality as I grew older. I’m sure that can be said for most of us from this era. 😎
You guys love each other. Kel is absolute gold. Easy on the eyes and easy on the soul. Your hearts are good. He has the energy and she has the calm. Nice.🌿🎶🌿
I have seen The Who live 5 times. First time in 1979. My 6th time will be in Dallas Texas on April 27, 2020. Driving 10 hrs. from Tennessee by the way. Every time The Who played this song I've been brought to tears (some music make me emotional). My favorite band ever! Loved Kel's reaction to this song. Happy anniversary!!!!!!!!
Four essential Albums: 1) Quadrophenia / The Who 2) Bridge Over Troubled Water / Simon and Garfunkel 3) Abbey Road / The Beatles 4) The Joshua Tree / U2
Pete Townshend at his musical genius peak. I would say the same for Roger's vocals. Obviously Moon the loon and Ox as well. Ox was definitely the most gifted player in the group. Love the Who , nobody in rock history is quite like them.
Each was so talented, and they meshed and grew as a band so well. They had no weak spots as a band. The power of their musicianship is undeniable here.
I sort of agree with your comment about the Ox but it's a hard call you are looking at the most talented individual in a band of very talented individuals. I think the Townshend edges it IMHO because of his songwriting skills. But then I might get up tomorrow and think it's one of the other
Quadrophenia is a rock opera about a mod with multiple personality disorder. He has 4 (quad) distinct personalities. He is a lover, a fighter, a mad man and his normal, lonely everyday personality. The movie of the same title doesn't do the greatest job of remaining faithful to the album but it does a fair enough of a job and does a good job of explaining the mod culture to us Americans.
Nice job, Kurt. I'll add that Pete created the word from "schizophrenia," but he didn't like the way it sounded, so he took the 'r' out. I think the movie is worth a look, as it does indeed give a good look at the "mod" culture, whence these boys came. One other note, and I'm sure someone has mentioned, Pete had another "rock opera" in mind. Can't remember the name offhand, but the Who's Next album (arguable their very best) had most of the music for it. Pete is definitely a freaking genius.
HAPPY ANNIVERSARY 🎉🎂🥂 Love both of you ♥️ Rich, you picked the perfect song for this celebration. My favorite Who song. Got chills listening to it. Did see the Who in 1978 with Kenny Jones on drums. Loudest amplification system for ANY concert I've been to. That concert was (also) one of the first that used laser lighting effects. The Who and Pink Floyd were the first bands to incorporate lasers in rock shows in the mid-70s ♥️
Seeing The Who was my first concert... A thank you from them to Brighton after the filming of "Quadrophenia".... 1979. Slept under the promenade with other fans to get tickets that went on sale the following morning. I seem to recall it was November!!! This track is as good as it gets.
Miss Kel - you ARE the music education program. Your musical adventures are introducing the music I and many, many more of your faithful followers grew up with to folks who never would have given it a listen if not for your videos. All I can say is thank you both for doing what you do, and please keep going. Happy Anniversary!
I grew up with this song and enjoyed it when it first came out and these many years later, love it even more. Songs are like the bookmarks in your life. You measure what you were doing around the time a great tune like this arrives, hits the airwaves and makes your collection. Your show reminds me of how my friends and I used to sit around listening to a new album together watching each others expressions. This brings back the kid in me. Thank you! Rich your descriptions of what you do and what you quote? I can so relate. Glad Kel gets to listen to these for the first time with us!
Fantastic reaction! A person only gets to fall in love with a song once, and no matter how often you listen it's never the same as the first time. We viewers get to relive that experience vicariously watching Kel get to fall in love with these songs for the first time. Congrats on your new family member Winston!
Went to the old Belle Vue Arena in Manchester (essentially a huge old Barn of a place). I travelled there from Liverpool and was amazed at the huge 4 way speakers they had installed for the waves and rain sounds. Went with a mate called Stu Fox and neither of us could hear a bloody thing for hours later. A totally body & mind experience. I've been lucky to see them live! 5 times from 1969 to 2005. Each gig was a whole body and mind experience. Only the day after was it possible to take in what I had seen and felt.
I don’t care how many times I hear this song, it gives goose bumps and just makes me stop and become fully immersed in it. It’s just such a perfect song.
I listen to this song, heard it many times and I still get goosebumps ...the peaceful piano seems to play along with the rain. .....the drums like rolling thunder... ....the lyrics that are so expressive....the passion of love, the playfulness of love, the peaceful, calming, exhilarating, encouraging, refreshing effects of true love can give to the human soul.... ....the vocals throw into sharp detail the absolute desperation of one alone without love.....the singer is aching, longing, despairing for love to pour over his soul!
I'm so glad you finally did this, I requested this because of my wife. And when I see you two it reminds me of my wife and I and still in love over 26 years and I wish I had the talent to write words to tell her exactly how I feel every day. When I hear this song I immediately think of how much I love my wife... oh... and the song is brilliant as well. Happy 1st Anniversary to you tube!!!
Congrats on a wonderful year, you have kept my spirits up in what has been a difficult time, many thanks 4 that! Hearing this brings me back to an innocent time, breaking open the plastic wrapper, removing the 1st disc in the album, then dropping the needle on my PHONOGRAPH! and being taken away!!! Thanks for the memories, heres to many more years for you both to enjoy the journey-Peace and Love ferretfret in Ct.
Congrats on one year! I thank you after such a loss for taking the time to expose so much of a new generation to inspiring music. What a great song for this occasion. Kel, I have to say I'm in love, and Rich, you are so cool. I love the enthusiasm from both of you. You are a great couple. Keep it up. LOVE
4:53 That simple descending minor scale from Pete makes all the difference in the chorus. His understated playing throughout the song is actually pretty huge.
Yes!! Thanks for finally reacting to this! It was so great watching Kel hear this for the first time and reminding me of how I and my friends all reacted back in the day..
Great reaction. I love at 6:00 in Rich is "checking out" Kel. Giving the old eyeball frisk. Not sure how long you two have been together, but very endearing.
Hi Kel and Rich, Happy 1st year Anniversary of your Channel. I so look forward to this musical adventure . Thank you!! By the way, I love the Who but haven't listened to this song/album in many years. What a blast back to the past. !!!
It was also a movie....saw the Who live for the Quadrophenia tour. I was at the show in (Cow Palace) San Fran that became famous because Keith Moon collapsed behind the drums ( to High !!!)....ended up using the sound check drummer. Such a GREAT band...
Love watching your videos, to see you both lost within the music is relaxing. You both have a true love of music, especially metal. Kel doesn't look a day over thirty. I've only recently discovered you and boy am I glad I did. I look forward to each new video, and to see where you'll be taking us on your musical voyage.
Pete Townsend has said that a lot of Who songs were basically Keith Moon doing a Drum Solo, and the rest of the band joining in where possible! A bit tongue in cheek, but not too far from the truth🤣🤣🤣
I played the Quadrophenia album aged 12. have been listening ever since. (49 plus years). So happy you like it Kel, so much more musical magic to come your way. Happy Anniversary. Love you 2 and have subscribed. you are so sweet. n.b.They called out is there a drummer in the house, there was and he played the rest of the set, I believe.
Happy anniversary to us all! Congrats! ...and so, here we stand, on the shoulders of giants. So many of us , completely unaware. The Who...what a powerhouse. Many more giants out there to appreciate. Love you guys. Keep them coming.
I was involved, immersed in British rock since I was 7 years old in 1968. So it's been going on for 52 years. This is imputed into my DNA .. every cell.
The 60s brought us new levels of rock n roll...a new generation of rock. The Beatles were wildly amazing. The Stones were incredible. The Doors...brilliant. Jimi...well...he's Jimi freakin' Hendrix. Enough said. But...The Who...was on a talent level, that, in my humble opinion, was WORLDS higher than the others. I can't even explain it. But, you get to listen to them, and experience them, for yourselves...and figure it out, in your own way. Happy Anniversary to the Show! Keep the vids coming! #feelthemusic o's - I'll just throw out my request, again, since it's been a while, since the last time I mentioned it. #MadSeason "Wake Up" "River of Deceit" "All Alone" They're a 90s "Super Group" comprised of members of a few grunge era bands; Lane Staley from AIC doing the amazing vocals. The best way I can explain them...think...if Pink Floyd was an early 90s band out of Seattle, pioneering the grunge scene. I really don't know any other way to describe their sound. You'll just have to give 'em a listen. 😉😎
Happy Anniversary, you two! Can't say I've watched every single vid, but, most of the ones I've seen have been fun watching you two talk about and react to them. May fortune follow wherever you go!
Congratulations Rich & Kel. What an epic and timeless choice!! This song does give you goosebumps from the very beginning and Roger Daltrey's voice is unbelievable. Kel, how about the intro with the piano that just blows you off your chair? It happened to me too. Thanks you guys
I saw them in concert at about 9 years old with my parents just as this song began it began to rain at 3 rivers stadium in Pittsburgh pa. I thought the band was making it rain on purpose because the more they sang the harder the rain fell. A beautiful memory of my parents who are no longer with us ... I thought it was magical!
Hey Kel n Rich. Happy Anniversary. Your show is amazing. Keep up the great work. I know Kel probably or maybe she has seen the Who live, but have you seen the Who live Rich? If you haven't you and Kel if you can should go see them. They are amazing. I saw them twice in Philadelphia. Once in 1981 on there "Farewell Tour" at old JFK Stadium. That is where Live Aid was staged in 1985. Then I saw them in 1989 at the Phillies old stadium The Vet. It was The "Tommy Tour". They played the whole Tommy album plus there greatest hits. it was an amazing show. Great video and again Happy Anniversary.
Happy Anniversary it's been great watching your reactions Kel and Rich !! Here's to a long life on UA-cam and many, many new music for you guys to discover and enjoy !!
Rich you have the best job ever! And Kel those looks you give Rich would absolutely make me melt! Happy Easter to the both of you! BTW Cheerios was and still is my favorite cereal! 😎✌️❤️
I was a teenaged usher in a move theater when Quadrophenia was released in the US, so I saw this about 100 times, in bizarre snippets. The music... unbelievably awesome.
Happy anniversary! Been watching since almost the beginning, and I've been waiting to see Kel react to this song. It was worth the wait. I consider this song to be the perfect combination of hard Rock and classical elements. The way the (synthesized?) strings rise and fall, propelling that 6/8 beat forward, is pure musical genius. There is literally nothing about this song I don't love.
Extreme synchronicity time....I was singing this to myself this morning at work, out of the Blue, and was wondering is anyone had done a reaction video to it. I get home, and here you both are doing it :-)
I can't believe 50 years have passed since I bought the Quadrophenia double album as a 13 year old in New York. This album and this song bring back amazing memories. Thank you for your reaction and for sharing.

agree completely
@Glen Franzen they stole a lot of music though.

@@largeal69 Bingo!!
This song still gives me goosebumps every time I hear it. A masterpiece.
Me, too. I figure I've listened to "Love Reign O'er Me" close to 1,000 times since 1973, and it still gives me goosebumps every time.
One of the greatest pieces of music ever written.
I think its in the top 5 best pieces of mosic I've ever heard.
Wish You Were Here & Bridge Over troubled water are defo there
One of the best vocal rock performances of all time. I ❤this song 🔥🔥🔥 .

One of the all time truly great rock bands.

1973. I grew up musically with Zep, The Who, etc.
Simply one of the greatest songs of all time .... Happy Anniversary!!
Greatest Who song gor its pure visceral emotion. Roger you rock. Great reaction too.

Moonie was a one off GENIUS
Maybe the most dramatic emotional song the Who ever wrote. Just a masterpiece of feeling.

So is Genesis The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway about Schizophrenia.

It's hard to pick a favorite WHO tune but this is up there with any of them. Love the intro, the power, the lyrics, the solos, the whole masterpiece!
Wow ,a total work of art,and one of the greatest bands ,yes!!!
Happy Anniversary ! We'll put, Rich.❤️
I grew up hearing the Who , now a days at my home I had the two Rock Opera in vinyl 'Tommy' and Quadrophenia' .thanks for sharing.
Ya Boi from Jack from Jacksonville. Congratulations you guys. Thrilled for you both. Keep up the great work...🎉🎊🎈👏👏👏🎈🎊🎉
The energy; the passion; the intensity; the synergy.... not many can match The Who. And this is one of their best!
Was able to see The Who this past tour in Atlanta. They played with a full orchestra, and this song was the crown jewel of the show...AMAZING live!
Extreme synchronicity time....I was singing this to myself this morning at work, out of the Blue, and was wondering is anyone had done a reaction video to it. I get home, and here you both are doing it :-)
Thank YOU for sharing your lives with us.
Our profound pleasure CC!!! 🥰🤘❤️🙏🏽
This tour was amazing in 1973 or 74 cant remember..Epic
Congrats, you two! One Year in your line of business is not to be sneezed at! Excellent staying power!
I can't believe 50 years have passed since I bought the Quadrophenia double album as a 13 year old in New York. This album and this song bring back amazing memories. Thank you for your reaction and for sharing.
I was lucky enough to catch the Quadrophenia tour in St. Louis. Mixed live in quad, and it sounded incredible!
Happy anniversary guys!! Here is to another fun year of reactions!!
