Ugh jowls … so cruel … my face held up till about 55 now I’m going to be 61 … the party is over .. it’s okay as a cancer survivor I’m just happy to be here . Age is a privilege.
Aww , well my grandmother was jowly & my mom as well as all her sisters .. there was no escape ! You can fight many things … but genetics & age are fierce competitors. lol
I'm with all of you here at 53 and it did seem like it happened overnight. Smiling helps pull your face up, too so do that in the mirror more often and tell yourself that you are beautifully and wonderfully made. 🙂
I noticed it starting get worse at 54. Now at 55 seeing a lot more sagging every week. It's crazy because I think I've taken better care of myself in the last 5 years than ever before. 😞
I got the Silk'n Titan and it worked for me! I could not believe the success I had with the corners of my mouth and that little bit under the neck. They are tight like 10 years ago!
I'm 68. This is the first - and likely the last - video I have watched on aging skin. Chubby cheeks in youth and jowls with age absolutely run in my family, and they're showing up in spades this year. My takeaway from this "experience" is that there's nothing I can do about jowls without spending huge amounts of money on products and procedures, and even that will only bring a very temporary improvement. I already have a very basic b.i.d. healthy skin regimen, so I'll just continue that, try to eat healthier, drink more water, and spend my money on meditation classes to help me accept myself and aging as a healthy, beautiful part of life. Thanks for helping me get over that mental hurdle quite quickly.
I'm a similar age, outdoor aussie bloke and was thinking exactly exactly the same thing. Isn't this young woman's honesty tremendous, saving a lot of us considerable time and money, I like her a lot. Why does anybody want to head towards the end of their life looking like a brand new car that never left the showroom anyway? It's not half as appealing as an old jalopy covered in dings, dents, bumper stickers and 27 layers of paint attesting to the many different eras it continues to live thru.
This was such a beautiful post to run into tonight -thank you for your words that provided much perspective and real beauty. At 53 I have noticed a round face and when looking at profile from the side it seems like my chin and neck are sloping into each other -really a bummer. I have trichotillomania -no lashes or brows either -so this is just not great for my esteem. However, I will also try my best but I want to be around positive like minded people like you -too much obsession over things that really just can't be controlled.
@moonharp We are the same age - I'll be 69 in early November - and everything you said is ME! My skin is wrinkle free and smooth, except for some forehead lines, but the jowls are here to stay. My mother had them as well, with beautiful skin and few wrinkles. I am a carbon copy of my mother as far as our facial aging. I aged the same way she did. I have very high cheekbones, which helps, I think, with the "falling face," but also I've noticed my cheeks have started to not be as fulll as they used to be. I do what you do and drink lots of water and moisturize, try to eat well, and will be getting in more exercise, but I'm tired of buying things and doing things that are supposed to rid me of these "pouches." It's time to enjoy the years I have left (husband recently passed) and not worry about what I can't fix. It's not that important in the grand scheme of life.. Thank you for saying it best , and I'm sure you're a beautiful women! Blessings! +
Great video! I was very lucky, my face held up right until 50. And then the overnight sagging happened. I literally looked in the mirror one day and didn't recognize myself. It was shocking.
Its sad that our most powerful and wise years are undermined by facial aging and low self esteem. I'm 62... If only we could perceive beauty in an older face... I know it can be done because I find beauty in other older faces. Love yourself people ❤
I know quite a lot of photographers who are endlessly obsessed with older faces. There's something very deep and profound about a weathered face as opposed to the smooth skin of young models.
I agree 100%. The way to start is to completely ignore men who talk about older women as if we are garbage. Too many women have been trained by opinions that should never matter... I take very good care of my skin but genetics is on my side in it's texture and coloring. Yes my face is aging but as you so wisely state, it's the elder stage where we are in are our wisest and most powerful years. This is why we are feared. Blessings ❤
Me too! I couldn't see it of older people when I was young, but it's so strange to me that now I do see people my age and older and see they look beautiful!
ive had jowls since i was 20 ever since i got my wisdom teeth and back molars removed. the truth is.. dental work effects your face a LOT and no one is talking about it. It can also help you look younger as well, so if you had teeth removed and have lower face issues, look at getting implants or even dentures to correct.. it works well for me
This! Had I known getting my wisdom teeth out would age me 15 years I would have left them in there. Why is this not more common knowledge? I'm now looking into a facelift and I'm only 37
can you expand on this? I was 13 when I had mine removed - I have a very weak jawline and jowling hard at 33. I had no idea this was a thing? Did you get wisdom teeth implants?
Ditto on the buccal fat removal! I thought about it so many times when I was younger because I have more buccal fat than most and I hated it, but now at 42 when fat loss is occurring, the extra fat still makes my face look plump and people never believe how old I actually am. Young ladies, resist the urge! Your older self will thank you!!
Same. Buccal fat removal has been a terrible trend imo. Those sucked in alien faces will look worse in 20 yrs and no amount of surgery, imo, will fix it.
I keep wondering how these 20somethings who had buccal fat removal done will look in 20 years, and how much money they'll be spending to put it all back

You didn’t loose me - I appreciate your honesty. Coming from a middle aged woman that hasn’t had any procedures done on my face whatsoever. I’m looking for the most basic procedures to start with and so this was all amazing information. I’ve done so much research to date and I discern that you’re spot on. Thank you 🙏
I have been massaging my face and doing face yoga for a very long time now I can confirm that it has helped me immensely. You just have to look at some of the Asian women teaching these tequnique to know they work. Also like any excersise or gentle treatment it takes time to see result but if you are persistent you can see them 100%. Shereene, I think you are a lovely person and you look beautiful and have fabulous skin but I would urge you to stop advising people to avoid using tools and technique that work and are natural and can help many many people look better and feel better. Saying face excersie is temporary is the same as saying body excersise is temporary.. so would you advice people not to exercise completely??
You're wrong but you're very passionate about it so I'm not even going to argue with you. But speaking from a medical point of view of cell structure, all you're really doing is breaking things down.
My new thing to hide them is to always be wearing a micro smile, like a smirk, just barely, enough to pull up the sides and smooth the jowls. For someone whose worn resting b face her whole life, it was a challenge but now I do it naturally and I just appear happy all the time. Unless I'm in deep thought, like when I'm shopping and have too many options.
I do a resting face for my frown line - constantly aware to not be tightening it when something happens that would warrent it. I have no crow lines between my eyebrows - none. I'm 44
Finally! A complete explanation of how some treatments work and how much they last. I really like her scientific approach. Thank you for not “selling” stuff, but educating us. So that we can better chose what to buy. You face is not for sale was a very good reminder!
Turned 50 am in the throws of menopause and everything has gone to hell in a hand basket my face hit the floor overnight 😂 I started exercising, cut sugar intake, tretinion, vitamin c, peptides, moisturizer, and of course Sunscreen. I look the best I can with no needles, no surgery and most importantly my skin glows and looks healthy. Aging is a privilege I’m grateful for every birthday I have face hitting the floor and all …..
There’s not much you can do about heredity, but you can create a welcoming facial facial expression. A couple of years ago, I worked to devrlooe a more positive mental attitude and aimed for a slight relaxed smile as my resting face. I’m 77 and now live alone. But I practice it as I sit at my computer, cook, or run my errands. As we get older, we tend to wear on our faces what we are thinking, and may have been thinking for years. So many wear a perpetual frown, lines of anger, depression , judgement, and life disappointment. As we get older, no matter what physical changes are happening, we can project a serenity and welcome in our facethat is gold to people stressed by life. A smile can change any face into something lovely. Believe, it takes some work inside before it shows outside. But if I can help someone in a moment to feel loved, accepted, and beautiful with a smile, I have fulfilled a desire in my older age to make a difference.
@@lesleyclaster6878 I love your attitude! Here is one added benefit of that smile; after a while it can become a smile on the inside too! Years ago when I was very depressed over miscarrying twice in a row, I learned the psychological trick of acting « as if » all was ok with my world. I won’t say that it erased all of my sorrows but it did eventually make them easier to bear! (Smile and the world smiles with you. Cry and you cry alone.)
This is my first time watching your channel Dr.Idriss. I've never watched on UA-cam a video like yours. Thank you for your honesty, frank and realistic approach to the problem of sagging jaws.
So true about facelifts. My mom got one and looked wonderful. But the jowls came back first, probably after 2 years. She’s still beautiful, of course ❤
@@9melissalWell, skin care still matters. So if it happened after 2 years, you have to consider how good of a skin care regimen was even followed. Or not.
@@DeathtotheAshesI can’t imagine anyone spending that much money on their face just to not even take care of it before or after. Someone who is that concerned with their skin typically is *very* anal about their skincare. And two years timeframe is actually pretty good for that. Dr Idriss just said that it’ll start to droop again within 6 months.
@@DeathtotheAshes skincare has absolutely nothing to do with your jowls sagging. No matter how well you take care of your skin, you will lose collagen and elasticity REGARDLESS of your skincare routine. It’s as if you didn’t even watch the video at all lol. But really, people should already know this and not need a video to tell them, but clearly I’m wrong about that because you still have no clue.
My jaw is a little weaker on one side and I've had a slight jowl there since my early twenties. Sometimes I'm really insecure about it, but then I see a photo of my great-grandmother, arguably the kindest person in my family and who I was named after, and see she had it too. And that helps so much.
Our faces, imperfect as we may see them, are our inheritance from the women who came before us. That we are here is a sign that those faces were loved. I wear them with pride :)
Same same same but with my mom. I'm 42, look pretty young but the jowls are here. She's 67 and has the same and I think she looks young and beautiful so everytime, I feel bad about this, I think of her and feel immediately better. 😊
I have the same issue too. I think my tmj makes it worse because it has effected my bite and teeth. I don’t have a strong jaw/chin so it’s really noticeable to me. The older I get though I also see bits of my grandmother poking through. I think I will look like her when I’m an elderly woman, if I’m blessed to make it that far.
I'm approaching my mid 30s. The jowls are the first and really only sign of aging I have. Thank you for your honest and informative talk about what is happening with my face. I'm not someone who really has a lot of time or money to put into these procedures so it's good to know that this is a common problem. Personally, I think the best route for me is learning to love my new face and maybe learning some new makeup tricks bit for me that can only happen when I know this is a normal part of aging.
Right.. and after you get cataract and vision correction surgery, you will tell me how well your faces have aged. I just have both surgeries done and look at the same mirror I did in my 20’s, that’s how much I have aged in 3 decades.
People who are not convinced about massage, or who engage in cosmetic treatments on a daily basis, perceive it only as lymphatic drainage, not taking into account deep tissue or even bone massage in craniosacral therapy. Comprehensive manual therapy, which starts from the feet, through the pelvis, internal organs, diaphragms, skull, and the inside of the mouth, can reverse acquired changes resulting from poor posture, past diseases, injuries, muscle tension, etc., which contribute to facial asymmetry and disturbed oval. Sometimes it is worth delving deeper into the topic and not making it shallow in favor of more invasive treatments. Millions of people use manual therapies, self-massages and facial yoga, and they look better than people using aesthetic medicine. And they certainly do it in a natural way and do not interfere with the body's natural processes.
100% correct. American medicine has huge gaps filled with cluelessness. She literally discounted all of Asia as well where the women age much better. Bad diets, lack of exercise (strength training), poisoned food moving trauma and understanding body work which you described perfectly were all missing here. Appreciate your comment. I’m actually doing cranialsacral work for the first time this year. Lastly, the French do facials including massages in mouth work as well. We have it so wrong in America. lol
You are so right on about the noticeable changes in your early and late thirties and how quickly it happens. I swear my breasts fell down over the course of like two weeks without having children. One day they were up, two weeks later they descended, same thing with jowls!
I honestly still do not seem to understand (scientifically/logically) how it feels like it happens overnight! I feel like change is supposed to be slow, not abrupt
@@nancytsai4724 Most of it's that way but trust me, at 53 IT WAS SUDDEN. One morning I noticed under my chin fat fell & was drooping. Another issue that came at 57 was sudden thick legs out of nowhere! My fat shifted to my bottom half. Devestating blowz
THANK YOU! I am 64, and my jowls have been the hardest part to accept in my aging face. For 30 years I have watched those jowls get deeper, and wished that I could do something to minimize the process. I want to buy that little machine in keep it at my bedside!❤😂
Very informative and good. I m 46 and I had sagging jowls because of age and weight lost. The best solution I found was face excercises. That really helped me to lift those areas as I toned the muscles, and the jawline is back. I think face exercises is the best, and just being constant is the key, you really see good results. Also healthy food and much water are natural and important things that make your skin look nice. I share all this because it works great for me. Sorry my english is not very good.
It works for me too. I am 60 yo and I have almost no wrinkles and I just begin to have jowls even though I never used fillers, Botox or plastic surgery :)
Thank you! Well in youtube there are good chanels. The first one I discover few years ago was Carole Maggio but there aren't many videos of her here on youtube. If you search in youtube face exercises to tone ...(jaw, cheecks, etc) you will find some good ones. There' s one that calls faceyogamethod, and there' also a girl that calls Parmita Kaktar that I think is good too. When you start looking you keep finding 😊
I had never seen her before, but I must say that I really enjoy her delivery. Very pleasant to watch and highly informative. Also, whomever treated her - probably an assistant under her own supervision - did a remarkable and very impressive job because her face looks completely natural! Given Dr Idriss’ background you automatically assume some type of filler in the cheek, but objectively, you can’t tell. I think her customers are fortunate to have her as their caretaker!
I worked for one of the top medical schools in LA and Dermatology was one of the most competitive specialties next to Surgery. Very hard to get a residency. I like the fact that Dr. Idriss tells it like it is.
Esthetician here, I found this to be extremely educational! I could listen to you talk about skin forever Dr. Idris! I’m looking forward to learning more from you. 💚
I hate my jowls but honestly I am just going to try and accept them. I'm nearly 60. I have other things I'd rather spend money on like travel and adventure! (crying in my coffee)
Don’t you dare cry! While realizing my beauty changes and learning I may need additional assistance, I take ‘collegian’ tablets (discounted brands sold at Marshall’s/TJMaxx), rub my face; massage in an upward motion my neck most nights with Organic Castor Oil and thank GOD for helping me sustain what HE’S given me. Amen!
Dr. Idriss, you are spot on. It did my heart good to hear you speak the truth about skin aging. I am blown away when I see people on UA-cam make all these claims of magical results from using one product or device after another. Then you have the people that run like their shoes are on fire to sign up for the next big gimmick. I've used Retin-A consistently since I was 30 years old. I am more than double that age now and everyone guesses me to be at least 20 years younger. I think good genes play a huge part in aging as well. Thank you for your honesty. I have the utmost respect for you because of your honesty. And your skin is flawless. I don't see a jowl in sight.
@@juliecummings4045 I just turned 40 but have hereditary problems with jowls. The no dairy made a huge change!! And if you can bear to do the Whole 30 diet, it looks like a facelift!
43 and have been chewing mastic gum for 6months. I double the recommended amount for twice as long. My jaw and cheeks are definitely filling out and lifting up the slack, minimising jowls. It's made a huge difference!
@@rrmarinochka4559 it makes a huge difference! Hot tip.. keep your head up while chewing, if your face is tilting forward it doesn't work the muscles properly. Best to keep your head level or very slightly tilting back :)
As usual, brilliant content and excellent delivery! Dr Shereene is one of the very few dermatologists that I follow online and I always appreciate how she breaks down treatments in a concise and comprehensible manner (she would make an amazing lecturer). What I appreciate the most, however, is how she gets to the pont quickly without the need for puff and padding which is a huge plus for us time-strapped, scatter-brained and low-attention audience. Thank you Dr Shereene- I wish I had you as my dermatologist.
Worthwhile video. You did well for a girl who found it difficult to find her English tongue! I’ve tried most of the above, and now I’m going to retire gracefully! I’ll be careful not to put on too much weight, and keep out of the sun. I am using all the right products for my skin, thanks to all the education from UA-cam videos. I love yours! 😊
This just reminded me of something, I completely changed my habits by finding out book called The 21 Former doctor secrets by Rachel Morgan. It has been censored.
Hello lovely ladies! A couple of things that have helped me :- sleeping on my back. Even with a soft pillow your face gets squished for several hours during the night and over time I'm sure this increases sagging of the skin and lines under the eyes. Also, good posture helps and my neck, jowl and double chin all look better for seeing a physio and exercising to stop me dropping my head forward. Also, smile a lot and nobody will notice your jowls 😊
I wish I could sleep on my back, but I have asthma and it's uncomfortable. Plus, I snore when I sleep on my back. Finally bought silk pillowcases and that seems to help some. As to your last comment, we have to remember when we look in the mirror we see something much different than others do. We're looking at a static image, for the most part, whereas others are watching your eyes, your smile and facial expressions. All of those things are expressions of personality which is the most attractive (or in some cases, unattractive) thing others see. So yes...just be happy and smile more! I'm 64 and most people think I'm in my early 50s because I laugh and smile a lot!
Jowls are the worst part. When I turned 54 is when I noticed I started to have the Mitch McConnell look! Thank you for this one. I was planning to do a neck lift!
I’m turning 43 and I started doing facial massages everyday for about 5 months now and I’m happy with the progress. I started to see the results. My double chin started to get smaller as well. I lost about 25lbs from having my 5th child. I truly believe doing facial massages consistently could help with looking younger. Thanks Doc for the information.
After loosing 70 lbs, I noticed "jowels". Then after gaining 50 lbs 4 years later, jowrls still there. Back on keto I lost 15 lbs so far jowels so far haven't changed. I'm looking for a good "authentic" face yoga .. I'm 63
Ok so your. Absolutely stunning & your complexion is perfection - im 58 & a cancer survivor so glad to just be alive but the jowls have appeared & aren’t going away along with neck aging as well - your video cleared up so many questions ive had thank you 💜
I lost two back teeth and developed a habit of running my tongue around the gums where the spaces were. Lo and behold, about a month later I noticed my jawline had slightly tightened up. I still do it and the exercise has definitely improved my jowls.
@@TheJlee28I have one of those -Medicube Age R Derma shot. I’ve using it on and off for a year but really not sure it does anything. Have you had good results?
I am thrilled to actually find a professional who not only has a beautiful, fun delivery of a seriously unpleasant subject (jowls!) but provides insight into the pitfalls of different types of products used to soften the natural effects of aging. Thank you for your informative video.
ohmygosh!! what a delight to find you today!! thank you for a great/honest video. i've been doing minimally invasive work for over 20 years and agreed with everything you said!! i did have a wonderful dr that i "aged" with. sadly, when i need her most, she has retired. and now i live in a place where i don't trust any of the drs doing this work here. thus, glad i at least found you.
So so interesting! Thank you! I’m be just started to really notice the jowls - I’m 51. We need to be kind to ourselves and appreciate what our body does for us each and every day and not believe that the goal is to look 25 again. That’s what the media and society tells us. We need to leave that unhealthy pressure behind. Do what you feel comfortable to show yourself some self love but love the body you are in ❤
Thank you so much for your complete honesty. At 51 I’m getting a bit jowly and I hate how it ages my face but I am what I am and I’m fairly healthy so I can’t really complain. Thank you for bringing real true information to the masses!
You only see it now? You must do something we don't do. I am 38 and it happens fast. But I recently got back to intermittent fasting and walking/running more. I think it's the first thing I realise do anything. Other than that I look young. So the jowls look weird. But I really believe it's manageable internally, unlik thus lady's pessimism.
I’ll be 66 next month. Never did I ever think I’d be a person to fuss about getting older. But the truth is I’m being a whiny baby about all this. The problem is that I don’t have a very good concept of how old I am. It’s weird. Thank you Shereene for your honesty. I needed this video. I’m spending money on creams and stuff. Now I can use that money for therapy to accept my aging🤣❤️🌹
Same. I'm 64. Have never felt old or worried over much about my face- and one day last year, i looked in the mirror and...YIKES! How did i get all of the wrinkles around my mouth?! Look at those deeply lined jowls! When did that happen? What do i do now?
😂. Truth! So nice to see lots of us here going through the same and knowing it's not all about the PYT's/Influencers/Air brushed/AI generated models on social media lol. It means we have lived, loved & experienced. Our badge of honour 😉.
Thank Doctor for this video, 3 months ago I went to a celebrity doctor for a consultation to address the 40's "square face" and he suggested melting the jaw lines fat, thank god I went to another doctor who told me never to do it and had a couple of fotona 4D which I started to see improvement recently, and explained why I wasn't getting good results with thermage like I used to be and how it could melt my fat pads!!!
Jowls! I’m ok with every other aspect of an aging face. I have mini jowls that flap in the wind… ughh. I would think they would be the easiest things to get rid of surgically! Thank you for settling me straight on the that and other in-office treatments!
This was informative. My dermatologist suggested Kybella for my jowls and I said “no thank you” because I felt it would promote sagging skin (I’m over 50) - great to hear you validate my concern.
I destroyed my jaw area in my mid 20s a few years ago, with 3 kybella treatments. I deeply regret it and am now injecting the area with PRP and such to try and replinish all the fat I destroyed.
@@fluffythebluepersian4888hi, do you mind sharing in what way it was destroyed? I’ve been interested in getting kybella. Got a quote from my dermatologist, she recommended I do 2 rounds and then ulthearpy to prevent sagging. I’m 32 but idk if I should move forward with it or just accept my lil day pocket for what it is 😅
@@demekaisocree3149 Basically by my mid 20s I had some very minor sagging in the jowl area, "pre-jowls" I like to call it. I wish someone told me to just try radiofrequency or ultherapy/similar tightening treatment. So what the Kybella did was it killed too much fat in my lower face and I went from having a Selena Gomez naturally round and youthful face, to a round face that abruptly looked hollow and overly narrow along the sides of the mouth and perimeter jawline, Gigi Hadid look only not natural, given my round facial structure. It just didn't look good plus the skin wasn't even completely tight after killing the fat which made me even angrier lol. So long story short... I have since gotten several PRP (prf?) treatments to restore volume to the area, and it's helped. Plus a 4 session package of in-office tightening treatments. I also purchased a few home use devices that help, and I'm one of those who has seen some modest results with Volufiline, applied 3 drops to the area mixed with a carrier oil, very pleased it actually filled my nasolabial area as well. In short.. for anyone with minor jowling I would ask your practitioner if they recommend you start with radiofrequency treatments or something not as drastic as Kybella (although RF can kill volume as well I hear, pick someone who really knows their craft)
Honest and wise words from a beautiful woman and doctor! No empty promises „do gua sha and you‘ll fix your jawline!“, „facial yoga to look 10 years younger!“ or such but solid and sober advice from a professional.
For the jowls.. I find only a few things help. 1) lose weight 2) hiit workouts/weight training 3) good posture (take pilates class or something like that, if it’s bad go to a physical therapist) 4) face yoga that’s focused on mouth/jaw/cheeks 5) gua sha 6) lower inflammation/calm nervous system 7) avoid steroids 8) avoid alcohol 9) low carb diet (
Agree with several on your list. I think your choice of less than 100 g of carbs is totally reasonable...preferably non processed foods. Also adding a smart collagen supplement has helped me. Lower inflammation foods. I am an avid work out person my whole Life as a Dancer/Runner so sweating the toxins is important even at 74!
Thank you doctor for this video. Ihave tried almost everything to look younger + delay aging as much as possible, anything from face exercises, vitamin C serum, Fraxel, collagen supplements and of course Retin A (7 years straight), home devices and what not. However, nothing made any real difference compared to the high-quality derma pen I purchased for under 100 bucks. Within 3 months of use, my skin has improved DRAMATICALLY. I don't look like I'm 18 again, but definitely not 41 either. My fine lines have disappeared completely, and my nasolabial folds are way less are nonexist (Never had jowls though). People often underestimate the power of wounding and the revolutionary effects it can have on the skin.
Shhhh...don't tell everyone! (Joking) Ive been microneedling for almost 10 years - most guess I'm @ 15 YEARS younger than my birth certificate says. I DO it myself at home, quote aggressively in places, and lightly in others,,maybe 1x month. I am 63
+1 for kora beauticaIs. I've been doing microneedling since it started 12 or so years ago. Nobody believe I am 55. They all say I am in my 30's or early 40's. As you know, as we get old, our skin gets thinner therefore creating wrinkles. But the wounding kept my skin still thick and youthful. Your comment will help so many women to restore their skin..
Thanks for this! Personally, I realized a few weeks ago that something was happening in my neck area! Literally overnight it seems I awoke to loose folds of skin and a visible increase to the jowls. It has been on my mind constantly since then and is all I can see. My face is catching up to my age (I’m 53). Not into surgery/invasive procedures but expect to get the Nu Face as I do not mind doing it myself. I thought I was a bit nuts seeing this change, and your comments were a great relief to me - thank you!
I have marionette lines and have since my late 20s. Now that I'm 60, I've learned to embrace my face and focus more on exercising and massage to create an inner glow. I appreciate your honesty about what works and what's really possible. I also have to ask where your adorable sweater is from? I'm sure it's long gone, but oh so cute and fun! 😍😍😍
I didn’t notice my face change too much until I reached 50 years old..as Asian I was blessed to look younger than my age but when I reached menopause than all of a sudden I aged 30 years ( I am not saying I used to look like I was in twenty’s but just gradual changes but nothing too noticeable). Now I need to take time to take care of my face. I am glad I found your UA-cam. I was planning to go to Korean & get plastic surgery to get face lift for jowls removed..I am glad I found your UA-cam..I don’t want to get unnecessary plastic surgery (better to not go under the knife). You are honest & very informative. Just subscribed! If you can also do video on hyperpigmentation, to stop hair loss. I also have Hashimoto & loosing hairs on eye brows too. And wrinkles on neck..I would really appreciate it ( due to having hypo thyroid..I gained 20 pounds than my thyroid reversed to hyper thyroid..than I lost 20 pounds). I feel lighter but I have deep neck wrinkles ..I am trying different neck creams but they are not helping. You look very natural with flawless skin & beautiful.
The most realistic and honest professional advice I've seen in a long time. I so much appreciate your information Dr. Idriss. It's been super helpful as I was considering the procedures that you had described as ineffective and even damaging in a way. I just subscribed to your channel and "liked" your presentation. Thank you again!
I wish there was more we could do at home that would last longer than an hour. I can deal with all my other visible aging (wrinkles, age spots, and silver hair streaks --- I love those!) but jowls are hard for me to see. 😞 I don't want to do plastic surgery, so I guess I'm stuck w/ the jowls, plus learning to accept them as a natural part of aging and loving my body for what it is right now. Many people don't live to be my age, so it's a blessing to have these changes happening to my body.
Good for you tbh! It's not easy to accept changes in our body and to really lean into the idea that even if you don't fully confirm (anymore) to what society considers 'conveniently attractive', you still have worth. It's a real challenge to internalise that but it's also truly a radical path to true self-love!
Very informative video. In the last year I have had big changes in my face and I too am dealing with the stress of my looks changing and aging. But I know that I should be grateful because I will be 70 in December. I have done some light treatments and botox while I do my best to adapt. It is very challenging. I'm working on aging gracefully.
I’ve done 8 threads (4 on each side) twice, and both times it didn’t work. Disappointed by that and no longer use that. I’m excited for your product to restock!
Thanks for this informative video. I’m in my mid-40s and started to see the sign of jowls around my chins. I tried massages, micro-needling at home but soon I came to realise these were just a momentary fix. I’m not a person who’d do any injections or going under knife but learning even those procedures such as facelift will not last in long run from this video helped me to finally make my peace with this. This is just just a part of life after all and if my husband can still love me as who I am, I’m fine with it. 😊
Thank you Dr. Idriss for this video. Unfortunately jowls run in my family. Seeing them now and it's bothersome to see it happening to me. They are not horrible yet. Don't know how bad they can get. I do take very good care of my skin. Have since I was in my 20s. Can you please do a UA-cam video on rosacea? I do have rosacea. About 4 years now. Just on my cheeks. I keep it under control with certain products. Some better than others. However if not controlled it looks like I'm always blushing. Thank you for any help you can provide
Love your comment. I pointed out the changes in my face to my husband the other day as I was really mentally struggling with the changes, and he responded with “Look, the same things are happening to my face. Does it really matter?”
I bought a NuFace in May and took before pictures. This week I took more pictures in August. I am shocked (happily) at the difference in my face. My face is definitely more lifted.
I used it everyday for about 3 weeks, now I used it 3-4 times a week. I was really skeptical when I bought it (I got the mini on sale at Costco), but it has really lifted my whole face. I’m 71 with a history of a lot of childhood sunburns
It works but when you stop IT DOESN'T... The Truth Treatments device is way better than the NuFace.... I have both and the TT BLOWS NuFace out of the water....👍
@@roxannebernard9258Your supposed to use it EVERYDAY for 60 days initially then 3-4 times a week after for maintenance... 3 weeks initially is not yielding the results you COULD get if used according to the manufacturer recommendations.... MUST BE VIGILANT with Microcurrent ma'am....
Thank you! I’m 44 and I want the Nuface!! I’m glad it’s working for you!! I always look for us aging women to recommend devices/products. A 30 year old isn’t going to need anything lol!
It's good information but I learned to accept myself as I am, aging gracefully and keeping busy with more important things in life... just go out, have fun, play with your pets, and spend quality time with family and friends because in this world, life is too short... be happy that you're still alive
Oh my GOD, how serendipitous that this video showed up in my suggested vids! I'm 38, and had a Morpheus8 treatment back in April of this year. I've never had any laser treatments on my face before. I have definitely noticed some loss in volume on and under my cheekbones since then. I was going to get another one within the next month, and now I think I shouldn't! I don't need facial fat loss, and I actually had no idea that this treatment did that. I'm so grateful I watched the entire 17 minutes, lol
I had Ultherapy done about 7 months ago, and am now seeing results, but it was THE MOST PAINFUL experience ever. I'll never do it again! I've recently been dermarolling with a .25 dermaroller, and love what is doing to my skin!
@@nicolerose7639 It hurts because that's how it works: it causes micro lesions in the middle layer of skin to stimulate regeneration and collagen production
Wow, you just explained more than my aestheticians at the plastic surgery office have. I “SUFFERED” through four Morphius8 RF Micro-needling procedures thinking that the deepest needles were best. Yes, my 60 year old face looks better than when I was 50, but my jowls are starting to show again, and it’s only been a year. Until I listened to you/this, I assumed that I was going to have to go through that (pain & thousands of dollars) again. I didn’t know that those stimulation devices would make a difference for around 2 hours (for a dinner or event). BUT, your patients are very lucky to have you “keeping them young”throughout every stage of their life! (‘Glad I subscribed!)
I truly appreciate how true and honest you are with this information and how you aren't trying to sell me the perfect miracle. I will definitely be trying the home suggestions. Thank you 😊
Thank you so much for making this video and for putting everything inside it, I recommend every girl to sit and write down every word after you because it took me 10 years to learn what you say here! I am not a doctor, just a woman who was always looking for information and here it is! I wish there were more of such specialists like you.
First time watcher here, first thank you for being transparent and honest. Second, could you please talk about festoons and how to deal with them both naturally and surgically please and thank you!
Thank you for such an honest, unfiltered answer to this problem. I thought I could fix my jowls with jawline filler but now know that a multifaceted approach might be necessary.
So glad I came across this! At 73, I must be at least in peak 5+ ! I dealt with acne in the 60’s so Ive always tried to take care of my skin. I loved skin pen treatments but stopped due to cost, Covid, and not sure of skin barrier damage as Ive been aging. I currently use good product and recently started at home skin peels, red light therapy, and micro current. I decided on no facelifts for me a few years ago, and decided to just gain skin knowledge and be my best self. I really enjoyed this candid info and now am a fan.
OH wow. Thank you so much! I had fillers about two years ago and can tell they have petered out. I only had one on each side, and the effects last quite a while. I feel comfortable going to repeat that now that I see her plan was following your plan of addressing the structure. I love your style (as a nurse I have worked with dozens of physicians)....don't lose that personable magic you have;)
@@Puppyizzy I had one in each side, above the cheekbone area, to draw the skin up because I'm almost 50 and lost a lot of fat from my face LOL! And then I had 1/2 syringe in each temple, and was supposed to go back, but didn't because I ran out of money. LOLOL!!!! But I would love to save up and go back and get the temples finished and the cheeks touched up. I can still tell my face isn't as drawn as it used to be....LOL!
I find that a little bit of filler around the temples, and a touch of filler on the chin/mental crease and in the pre-jowl sulcus helps to camouflage my jowls and make my face look more naturally heart-shaped as opposed to bottom-heavy. I just turned 39 two weeks ago. I started to notice the jowling in my mid 30s.
@@nancytsai4724 no never, I’ve never had Botox either. I’ve had full-face ‘micro-fat grafting’ though (not for volume, but for rejuvenation). I’m afraid of lasers because they can cause fat loss in the face. I really want to try micro needling with prp next, but shallow needles.
Very informative video - thank you! I am aging at a slower pace than most women. I just noticed the jowls coming in my early 60's and same for the neck that just fell apart over night (crepey lines!). I could lose a few pounds, but I think that is helping with the fine lines and wrinkles. You win some, you lose some. No Botox, fillers or anything else here and it will stay that way. Oh, and a silk pillow case really does seem to help too.
Me too! I'm 65 and never had jowls until about 62. I've always been told I look very young for my age. I still look younger than my age but it's starting to show up more now. I won't ever do anything to my face either cuz I like it just the way it is.
Dude…I just had the face change over a month. I’m 37, 38 in July. I’ve been like wtf? I’m so glad I found this video. I thought it was because of a bunch of major stressors that happened in the same month.
Dude. I thought I wrote this comment. We are the same person! 38 in July as well! Seriously wtf happened to my jawline/neck. It just aborted its mission entirely. Come back, my friend!
I felt it last year as soon as after my 33 rd birthday clocked in. Not just my face, a lot of bodily changes too. Im glad too to cone across this video. I thought i was getting mad from thinking i must have peaked on some level. Coz i kinda jumped or my face did atleast. I suddenly looked much older.
@@lenavanvintage mines more in the cheeks and the folds by my nose. It was like it happened overnight and I don’t like it haha. Trying everything under the sun sans cosmetic surgery to get that taut skin back. My man friend says I’m crazy and it’s all in my head, but I can look at photos from summer 2023 to now and definitely see a difference. I’m not ready to get old haha.
I really enjoyed this and found it very informative. Thank you! I'm in my 50s and recently got very sick, causing me to lose over 70 lbs, and I ended up on an NJ feeding tube for over a year. Chronic illness can wreak havoc on our facial skin, but when you lose the fat in your face and are too weak to hold the facial muscles up, helping to keep it somewhat taut...the skin itself hangs like sheets on an old clothes-line. But I can swear that it's a fact that facial exercises can and do help to rebuild the muscle tone we need in our face to help hold our skin up, if even a little. Trips to and from the Mayo clinic in Rochester have left us broke, but investing in a plumping serum has helped. A good skin care regimen, and yes, Nuface definitely helps stimulate the muscles helping to hold my skin up even if i do look like a stick. But, none of it does any good without good moisture both inside and out. Drinking water is key, and using a good fragrance free moisturizer with a decent spf. A vitamin packed smoothie, or like in my case, a "Boost" every day, has definitely helped. I'd love and appreciate a good tutorial/video lol (that's my age, haha) on chronically ill skin and / or extreme weight loss in the face!! Thank you!
I love how you deliver the information. So personable, I would love to have you as a dermatologist. I bet your patients love you! Thanks again for a great video!
Thank you! For years and years people WAY underestimated my age, until I started getting jowls at menopause (58).😢 I am reluctant to get a facelift so thanks for this clear explanation.
I appreciate your honesty, directness and detailed information about all things on skincare. I like how quickly you get to the heart of the topic too and don't drag out your vids. Btw - you have beautiful skin so it's easy to subscribe to what you're saying. I feel like I'm getting a free derm office visit with every one of your vids. I'm a fan! Thank you. ❤
Consistency is key. i just want to age gracefully. There are 2 ladies in their early 70s in my apt complex. Neither smoke ( that's a skin killer if ever was one) Both have taken great care of their skin. I find myself looking at the older 1 s'times thinking gosh her skin is gorgeous. The REAL key is their attitude. They're funny & active. Their apt is a showroom. I invited myself over a month agter they'd moved in. It was amazing what these 2 had done. 20 yr olds don't hv that type of energy. It is 60% of what make these 2 appear gorgeous at their age. That's all we can hope for. Take care of ourselves but be the person that others are drawn to. We're all going to age, we're all going to go at some point. It's the joy we bring to a room that makes you young.🎉🎉
Always happy to be schooled by Dr. idriss. Slurping up all her knowledge to educate me, looking good while being safe, doing so! Thank you for sharing your knowledge!
This was an informative video. I'm about to hit 40 and going through that second peak where my face is really starting to look "its age". Having you explain what's happening makes it all feel more manageable and that indeed it's a natural process and that there isn't really any permanent way to prevent it or make it go away. The sooner I learn to accept my new face, the happier I'll be.
This was helpful and I am just going to live with my jowls at going on 75 and be glad I'm not going to waste money on that which cannot be fixed. Thank you!!
For me losing weight was when mine began :-( Losing the weight in my face I guess caused some laxity in the skin and down it went lol. I had already been using microcurrent and still do. I look younger than my 57 but man do they piss me off when I look at them LOL!!
@@TheJoJoD33kinda same I have little small neck for my height n I feel it's saggy sooner with my age I might look aged only there but my face is normal. When I lost weight people called me pale n weak thought my bmi was correct.
@@hsdiem0 right! I successfully lost nearly 30% of my body weight to get to a healthy BMI for my height of 5'. It definitely left some laxity in my face, but I'll take being healthy over worrying about some loose skin anyday lol. Congrats to you!!!
Watching this video after I got my buccal fat removed 2 years ago, I am 40 yo right now btw, and yes i do see changes in that area around my lips. Thanks Dr Shereene, I love all your tips.
Thank you, Shereene for addressing the jowls and explaining how long different treatments don't last that long. I need to apply tretinoin every day. I'm such a big fan of you. You have given me the knowledge of how to treat aging gracefully. I just turned 43. I am half Asian though so you cannot see my jowls yet. My mom is full Korean, 79, and you can barely see jowls on her. That's not true. I can see the beginning of my jowls. I've been watching you for two years almost.
Worth reviewing her lifestyle including diet, teas?, spices?, meal timing, exercise type & frequency & history, facial expression history (ie Americans habitually contort our faces more than say, Europeans (& likely Asians & Africans), sun exposure, skincare details, sleep history, everything you can think of because you're genetically half her. And remember the old adage that if a man wanted to know how his wife would age, look at her mother. Obviously not completely true - could take after your father for example - but who better to study than your mom (& maybe then, her siblings & parents and maybe your dad & his siblings & parents)? The microbiome could end up having something to do with the appearance of aging too, not just with health, and that tends to come from our mothers and over time from our households. Best thing might be to just ask your mom what she herself thinks has helped her to stay so young-looking and then ponder if you've been doing the same or the opposite! Good luck either way.
I would add another milestone to the aging timeline. I would add 58 or 59 years old. That is when I truly knew that there was no makeup or contour or special lighting that was going to hide the jowls. It is a hard pill to swallow because at this point you are looking old, there is no doubt, and you begin to see shades of what you will look like in another 10-15 years. For those of us who do not have money to fix this, it is a real blow and it brings home hard that you have lived over half your life.
@@TheJlee28 It is not a joke that I do not wear my glasses when I look into the ONE mirror I have in the house. Sometimes hiding your head is not a bad thing, especially if you are already doing what you can to fix it.

How about postmenopausal changes in our skin with loss of estrogen?! I would love to hear you address this. It is a very under talked about problem with the skin, although recently getting more attention. Thank you for all your great advice!!
I’m 65 and this is the first time I have noticed the jowl sag start…I have been slugging and feel like it’s minimizing a lot of the wrinkles that have started to appear. I have also started doing facial exercises twice a day and using red light therapy. Love the video

Great perspective and attitude! Inspiring for me.
Turning 49 this week! Love your perspective, I agree let’s stop fighting and start embracing our wise beauty
Same here 😢 It just feels like it happens suddenly.
Same! WTH?
Same!!
Me too 😭
Same here!
Blessings ❤
My wisdom has been hard earned! There is NO WAY I am gonna devalue that!
Me too! I couldn't see it of older people when I was young, but it's so strange to me that now I do see people my age and older and see they look beautiful!
You clicked on the video after reading the title why then? You're obviously interested in the subject, or else you wouldn't have clicked
ive had jowls since i was 20 ever since i got my wisdom teeth and back molars removed. the truth is.. dental work effects your face a LOT and no one is talking about it. It can also help you look younger as well, so if you had teeth removed and have lower face issues, look at getting implants or even dentures to correct.. it works well for me
This! Had I known getting my wisdom teeth out would age me 15 years I would have left them in there. Why is this not more common knowledge?
I'm now looking into a facelift and I'm only 37
Yes!
Underrated comment...
can you expand on this? I was 13 when I had mine removed - I have a very weak jawline and jowling hard at 33. I had no idea this was a thing? Did you get wisdom teeth implants?
Dentists always tell you that if you get teeth pulled, you need to immediately replace them.
I agree! I also had an LED mask and people always think I'm in my thirties not fifty.
I keep wondering how these 20somethings who had buccal fat removal done will look in 20 years, and how much money they'll be spending to put it all back
Don’t take the fat out of your cheeks young women you’ll lose them later on as you age
Too late 😩

Strength train, don’t do aerobic exercise, it stimulates cortisol.
Do you do face or tongue exercises?
So true about facelifts. My mom got one and looked wonderful. But the jowls came back first, probably after 2 years. She’s still beautiful, of course ❤
That's so frustrating! All that money and recovery for it to iust come back in 2 years?!
@@PiXie232 yeah because people
who get lipo never get fat again either by YOUR logic.
Either way, we don’t know. So, welp.
Awh, this is so beautiful 🥹💗
Our faces, imperfect as we may see them, are our inheritance from the women who came before us. That we are here is a sign that those faces were loved. I wear them with pride :)
Real beauty is on the inside. ❤
Me too
❤
Right.. and after you get cataract and vision correction surgery, you will tell me how well your faces have aged. I just have both surgeries done and look at the same mirror I did in my 20’s, that’s how much I have aged in 3 decades.

She literally sells scam products...

You are so right on about the noticeable changes in your early and late thirties and how quickly it happens. I swear my breasts fell down over the course of like two weeks without having children. One day they were up, two weeks later they descended, same thing with jowls!
Same here my body suddenly sagged & the breast is the worst part. Can’t recognized myself anymore 😅

How do your boobs get saggy without having kids??? Like what even makes them start going down?!
I think your English is just fine, and your words are very helpful!

Thanks for straight honesty! At 55, I have learned that, health on the inside out, and good genes, less stress. Best to learn to accept aging as well.
She’s definitely one to get an education from. Jives with my idea of aging gracefully, AKA “growing wiser”
@@a.c.1436 To be fair, the term ‘growing wiser’ seems popular with dermatologists. Dr Andrea Suarez @drdrayzday uses the same term

I agree with you about how the sleeping position can affect our skin. I have a terrible habit of sleeping on my stomach. I appreciate your input.
Yes! Sleeping on my back more has made a dramatic improvement to the bags under my eyes.
I love this, thank you for the advice

This was the worst procedure ever! Never doing it again and it didn't help! Think more than twice if someone recommends it .

1) lose weight
2) hiit workouts/weight training
3) good posture (take pilates class or something like that, if it’s bad go to a physical therapist)
4) face yoga that’s focused on mouth/jaw/cheeks
5) gua sha
6) lower inflammation/calm nervous system
7) avoid steroids
8) avoid alcohol
9) low carb diet (

Thanks for this informative video. I’m in my mid-40s and started to see the sign of jowls around my chins. what would that look like while healing?? I'd stay home! @@orchardlea
Great info for those of us in out late 40's. I really trust your advice and look forward to watching weekly. Thank you, Dr. Idriss!
Thank you 😊
I'm 45 and didn't age much until about 3 years ago. It's crazy how fast the sagging has happened. Yikes.
It's crazy how suddenly it comes on!

100 % agree. Started perimeno at 49 and at 50…..BOOM! The jowls and face sagging felt like it happened within a few days.
mine literally happened overnight! i thought something was wrong with my skin! then i realized it was jowls and no going back now!
Second, could you please talk about festoons and how to deal with them both naturally and surgically please and thank you!
what's a festoon?
I really enjoyed this candid info and now am a fan.
what micro current do you use? Im 75 and use red light, peptides and good skincare.
OH wow. Thank you so much! I had fillers about two years ago and can tell they have petered out. I only had one on each side, and the effects last quite a while. I feel comfortable going to repeat that now that I see her plan was following your plan of addressing the structure. I love your style (as a nurse I have worked with dozens of physicians)....don't lose that personable magic you have;)
Did you have them placed near your cheeks to lift the jowls away?
where in your face did you have fillers? and what kind of filler?
@@Puppyizzy I had one in each side, above the cheekbone area, to draw the skin up because I'm almost 50 and lost a lot of fat from my face LOL! And then I had 1/2 syringe in each temple, and was supposed to go back, but didn't because I ran out of money. LOLOL!!!! But I would love to save up and go back and get the temples finished and the cheeks touched up. I can still tell my face isn't as drawn as it used to be....LOL!
Love your teeth.
@@changeeyecolor3891 LOL aw thank you! I had braces TWICE so I wear my retainer every night! LOL I don't want a third set of braces! LOL
Especially appreciate knowing that scar tissue could interfere with optimum results from facelift. Helpful overview.
What is the mental crease??
Have you tried any other treatments like lasers/RF/ulthera, etc?
Saw😢

Can you talk about the differences between ultrasound, radio frequency and thermage, please? Thanks for the video 😊
I would love that too!
Colleen , I’m sorry for your loss , thank you for your kindness ❤
Thank you!!
Weight loss can help. I always stored my facial fat in my jawline so getting back to a lower weight really helps.
For me losing weight was when mine began :-( Losing the weight in my face I guess caused some laxity in the skin and down it went lol. I had already been using microcurrent and still do. I look younger than my 57 but man do they piss me off when I look at them LOL!!
I agree! Mine got a lot better with weight loss
This is simply the best solution. 15% or lower bodyfat helps a lot.
Do you regret the buccal fat removal?
How much did you get removed and how are you liking the results??
" As we get wiser..." instead of As we get older
Waw!!! love it!
Could you talk about some things to look for when finding a good dermatologist. Thanks
Asian faces age differently, they get wider whereas white faces sag/get longer.
Yes, late 50s did definitely make more changes.😢
I’m 55 and after vision correction, I see the crows feet and 11 lines but I remain hopeful to reverse aging naturally.
I'm 77. I've a life of adventure outdoors. I just smile a lot!😊
@@TheJlee28 It is not a joke that I do not wear my glasses when I look into the ONE mirror I have in the house. Sometimes hiding your head is not a bad thing, especially if you are already doing what you can to fix it.
@@sylviaypma9958Sounds like you earned every sag and wrinkle and bravo to you for having a wonderful life! I will be 60 in a few weeks and I just learned that trick. Smiling may not make me look younger but I sure look prettier and at this age I have come to realize that pretty is what to shoot for, not young. Stay with the possible.
How about postmenopausal changes in our skin with loss of estrogen?! I would love to hear you address this. It is a very under talked about problem with the skin, although recently getting more attention. Thank you for all your great advice!!
If only every professional was as informed and honest as you. Thank you
I’m 65 and this is the first time I have noticed the jowl sag start…I have been slugging and feel like it’s minimizing a lot of the wrinkles that have started to appear. I have also started doing facial exercises twice a day and using red light therapy. Love the video
