  • As the days grow shorter and the nights longer, may all of us in the Northern Hemisphere prepare ourselves for December 21st. It is the day we commemorate the Winter Solstice and honor the darkest night of the year. Please pause what you're doing, bow your head, and honor the shadows by journeying deep within to reflect, restore and nourish your spiritual cores. Though a rose is beautiful when in full bloom, lest we forget that its shriveled death is but a few days away. Like the evergreens we bring inside each December to decorate with lights and tinsel, let those green harbingers of the holidays remind us that death is necessary in order to be reborn into the ocean of cosmic energy that surrounds each and every one of us. Also? Happy Fu**ing Holidays.

    I really appreciate Katya’s openness at the end. Speaking to what she was talking about, it’s an important reminder that just because people may see someone as an inspiration, doesn’t mean they ever asked for the responsibility of being a role model. I wish everyone could be a fan without crossing boundaries just because they relate to the person they look up to. People live their lives for themselves, I hope everyone can respect that ❤️

      “Just because people may see someone as an insipiration, doesn’t mean they ever asked for responsibility of being a role model” PREACH THANK YOU!!!! Let’s not impose respnsibilities on people that they didn’t promise! They could be struggling to make themselves keep going.

    From NPR, last year: "A separate study published by the CDC and the National Institute on Drug Abuse in 2020 found 3 out of 4 people who experience addiction eventually recover. ... Life after addiction isn't just possible. It's the norm."
    75%. We do recover.

    • @AVspectre
      @AVspectre 23 дні тому

      This is a great stat. I didn’t know it. Bonus points for citation!

    • @xVibra
      @xVibra 17 днів тому +1

      Inverse that statistic, and it explains why Katya said it's quite bleak. 1 out of 4 addicts do not recover. You have 4 drug addicted pairs of parents, and now there's 1 pair that never recovers for their kids. Now those people don't become grandparents because of it, and that's if they're lucky enough to keep their kids, let alone have a good relationship with them. It's why it's important to take it seriously, and not complacently believe "it gets better," or that "you could quit at anytime," or "this is the last time." When you break an arm you don't just put off going to the doctor, because it's not going to kill you to just put up with it. You have to take it seriously for other addicts, because sometimes they're incapable of seeing it for themselves. It _can_ get better, but it's not going to happen until you take action to change things for yourself or for those you care about. It's certainly not easy, but it doesn't help to not think you could be that 1 in 4.

    I feel really bad that the idea of responsibility and role modelling made Katya regret talking about her recovery journey publicly. I know what she means, but all the times she shared her experiences over the years really helped me find context with my own issues, and understand others better.
    I really hope she finds peace with that again, because that's really what it's about, not burdening someone with expectations of perfection, but comisserating with them over the experience and process and gradually breaking the cycle of setbacks and progress. All anybody really wants is a little understanding and humanity, and I think that's what she brings to the table.

      @miekkavalas-5382e 6 місяців тому

      If it helped you, that's great. But she really shouldn't have to do things she doesn't want to.
      There's always things you could do to help others. You could donate most of your income to different charities and live off as little as you can. But you really shouldn't have to. It's not your fault you live in a capitalist system, and it's not her fault people have issues with drugs. So it's not her responsibility and shouldn't be.

    I really appreciate Katya’s point about wishing to have remained anonymous - it just hit home. Not in AA, but there is truth to when you share your struggles with others especially in a public space it easily becomes apart of the public discourse and who would want anything so close to them to be that? Even if it’s helpful to some, it can be helpful in the longer run to yourself. If you watch reality tv stars who have branch out a lot of them share similar regrets. It’s something I think more and more of us will have to think about as the internet and broadcasting oneself becomes more and more common place. It’s not all negative but there is unfortunately no “taking back it.”

    The fact the ppl literally would offer drugs to someone who’s an addict KNOWINGLY is fucking insane to me. Like that’s just evil!!! I could never!! When I’m out with my sober friends I’m looking for the best mocktails for them and doing my best to be supportive. Some ppl are literally just bad ppl to their core and it makes me sick

    Thank you Katya for opening up and being vulnerable at the end. I know you regret opening up on drag race but you really have helped so many people and continue to inspire those struggling with addiction. People can be so tone deaf or just straight up destructive trying to get sober people to use acting like it’s not a big deal. On the other hand sober people can be very toxic and gossip about those seeking treatment when the entire point is to be an anonymous community that supports one another. People wanting to get help who are in the public eye don’t because they’re scared that someone will “expose” all their information if they showed up at a treatment center or AA meeting. It’s sad and I wish people were more aware of the effects that behavior can have on addicts. I think a lot more public figures would be sober if they felt support instead of people wanting to use their addictions for gossip

    This bring up a crazy point, why is there such a fixation with offering addicts drugs? Everyone deals with addiction differently and I completely understand that Katya doesn’t want any attention brought to it. I’m grateful she feels comfortable to talk about this issue even this much and I hope we as a fan base can do what we can to respect this ❤

    Just agree with me Trixie.
    Omg, the journey these beautiful humans have been on. Could you ever imagine season one UHNnn Katya, not only, not letting Trixie interrupt her every sentence but also flat out demanding she agree with her.
    Plus Trixies relationship with Mr David Silver.
    Katyas body and exercise journey.
    Trixies professional career (all her shows/companies/ products)
    Their huge live show.
    The actual confidence they have now.
    Their looks and makeup journey.
    They have grown and changed so much its amazing that we got to watch it unfold.

    i have lots of experience with family in NA and AA and can confirm the purpose is pure even if the results are not always successful - but it isn't supposed to reflect how affective the programs are, it's like sending 20 people to one therapist and not all of them are going to vibe w them yknow? it's a constant battle and i have so much respect for people who talk about it and the nuances involved
