Melancholic, powerful, straight forward pop rock is what you wanted from Carmen, and he served it up in fine style here. The blend of guitars and keyboards (and that big, seismic drum groove) is really all you need to get lost in the tidal wave of melody he pushes out here. I am saddened to hear Eric Carmen has passed. His song "All by Myself" brings me back to my insecure High School years when I longed for a girlfriend but was too shy to move forward and "Make me lose control" brings me back to the beginning of my first real adult love affair. I was driving up Pacific Coast Highway in a baby blue convertible Porsche 944 with the top down heading to Malibu as the sun was setting over the ocean when this song played. I've never, not rarely, but NEVER heard this wonderful song since its original airplay back in Summer/Fall 1988; why? It's so timeless, it could have been a hit prior, afterward and even today. Plus, it really brings out the incredible, soulful voice of Eric Carmen.
I just heard it in the grocery store today. Haven't heard it in decades and it was all I could do to not sing out loud in the store while shopping haha. Came home and had to pull it up.
The song has al; the key things for a great pop song,. simple, has a great hook plus its memorable !. As Quincy jones once said, if you can walk down the street, hum a song not really knowing who wrote it or even the singer , but it sticks with you, then thats a good pop song. The studio shots remind me of my early studio days, man we had fun, and No auto tune !

my memories of the 80's were somewhat different. crushed economy, standing in food lines to get government cheese while suffering through the horrid institutions of grade school and high school. Everyone seems to remember the 80's very very differently than I do. the only thing that made it survivable was the music which was in extremely stark contrast to the reality of living through an extremely bad decade.
I feel sorry for anyone that did not have the extreme good fortune to have grown up during the 80s. Thank you God for letting me live when great, timeless music ruled the airwaves!!

Oh darlin' Turn the radio up for that sweet sound Hold me close, never let me go Keep this feelin' alive Make me lose control Baby, baby When I look in your eyes, I go crazy Fever's high with the lights down low Take me over the edge Make me lose control "Be My Baby" comes on and we're movin' in time And the heat from your touch Makes me feel like I'm losing my mind, oh yeah (And then they played) Back in my arms again (We close our eyes) We start rememberin' when (We start to kiss) And all the feelings return And we just pray that this night never ends Oh, my darlin' Turn the radio up for that sweet sound Hold me close, never let me go Keep this feelin' alive make me lose control Baby When I look in your eyes, I go crazy Fever's high with the lights down low Take me over the edge Make me lose control Baby, baby Turn the radio up for that sweet sound Hold me close, never let me go (Keep) Keep this feelin' alive make me lose control When I look in your eyes, I go crazy Fever's high with the lights down low (So take) Take me over the edge make me lose control Baby, baby Turn the radio up for that sweet sound Hold me close, never let me go Keep this feelin' alive Make me lose control
I have loved Eric Carmen from the time I heard him in 1971 as an almost 9yr old. Recently I got to watch many of his ole gathering concerts and some cool interviews from his NY area which totally reflect upon how not only cool he remained as he aged but how much music stayed a part of his life and in his soul. A reminder to do what you love each day and to love each day. Thank you Eric, see you soon - and with a deep heart here of my own, I am being so grateful for your hungry heart. R.I.P.
The 80's were the best years of my life as a kid. All these songs still immortalized today. The 80's were all about hairstyles and songs that leave permanent memories in us all. I would listen to this on my Walkman whilst going to the shops on my BMX. Bring back TAPES.
My favorite part of the lyrics occurs at 2:05, "Was Love Always This Good, or Could This Be Just The Start". Remember the first time or two, when you were young and love was new, and you felt like this about love? You didn't know if it could get any better. Wonderful youth!!

Not only is the melody amazing, but this is one of the most complicated arrangements I've ever heard for a pop song. And they got it all just right
Very true, my friend. I had never quite been able to conceptualise what made it such a special song, but you’re right - it’s the complexity of the arrangements.
A hard move to make
@@adrenalinejunkie4788Eric Carmen co wrote this song with Dean Pitchford
@@paulsonj72 Thank you, friend.
@@adrenalinejunkie4788 AND FWIW do a search to see what else he has written. Not just songs but books and screenplays(FWIW he wrote the original screenplay for Footloose and co wrote nine songs on the soundtrack as a lyricist)
I'm a 62 year old Australian woman. Nothing beats the music of the 60s,70s and 80s. Music this century is shocking to say the best. Young people don't know what their missing
You are so right it’s a shame I wish all our young kids could feel what we felt when we heard all here great songs! They just lift our spirits’ and make us smile or cry who cares all the feelings count ❤️❤️❤️💕😊👍
You are right. I just turned 60 and I am so happy and glad I was able to live these years listening to great music of the 60s 70s and 80s.
In my strong opinion the 1970s is thee decade of music. Lots of categories and lots of talent was out there and real musicians and singers.
I am 70 years old and I totally agree with you, I still play this sort of music and dance around.
And 90s. Cut off point!!!
RIP Eric. Your tunes will forever be in my playlist!
Say Hello to my Dad Eric, he loved this song!
I am 70 and my son has to play this song full volume..I lose control and just sing my lungs out...Went past a nursing home and I liked the energy this songs gives me, I am not ready for one yet. Thank you Eric for the best song to get my blood pumping.
You' re 72 man! You can still do a lot of things! I`m with you!
Rock on dude!
Keep singing at the top of your lungs and you'll never need the nursing home. Rock on and God bless
Dang, sir! Salute! Hope you are still here to see this comment. This song is a pumped-up version of doo-wop but that's what makes it so good. The a cappella bridge is worth the price of admission. You are only as old as you feel!!
Yes sir
Nothing compares to the Passion and Power of 80s music... It's still pure magic!!! 🎶💖🎶
Yes you're right there! You had to love it! 💖🎼🎶🎶💞
The Best year 80
Yes,is the true music
@@chancycat9822 pura vida ,desde Costa Rica
@@mauricioortega2322 Well this is excellent music that's for sure...
But now that I'm a Christian I just see things a little differently and what I would refer to as "true music" is Gospel music!
Because with Gospel music God talks to you directly..
But like have you ever listened to Carman or to Joseph Larson,Kim Coleman,Rich Mullins, and or Michael W.Smith etc just to name a few of my very, very favorites?
An era when almost every song had the element of power and love ❤️
Rest in peace Eric. This was one of my first favorite songs and I still love this song. It really did make me lose control and cry many times. Thanks for creating it.
I also thank God I grew up as a teenager in the 80's, ❤
I've never, not rarely, but NEVER heard this wonderful song since its original airplay back in Summer/Fall 1988; why? It's so timeless, it could have been a hit prior, afterward and even today. Plus, it really brings out the incredible, soulful voice of Eric Carmen.
I just heard it in the grocery store today. Haven't heard it in decades and it was all I could do to not sing out loud in the store while shopping haha. Came home and had to pull it up.
RIP Eric Carmen.... this song brings back great memories of the 80s. Thank you sir!
RIP Eric Carmen, thanks for all that great songs.
This is one of the most perfectly crafted pop songs ever.
agreed!
Nothing beats a perfectly crafted pop song. So many dismiss pop but it’s got some of the best songwriting and it’s just plain fun 🤩
@@prestige2000rider loved your comment about Eric Carmen - Make Me Lose Control
I was 11 when this song came out. I still love it to this day. I will never get enough of 80's music, best decade ever!!!
Me too. This song feels like the summer of 1988 whenever I hear it. 🤘
I was 12...Good Times those days were
Same here!! A true golden age.
RIP to a musical genius Eric Carmen
The production of this is simply fabulous, a big booming song, I love it.
"Turn the radio up for that sweet sound" I love that line.
I REMEMBER WHEN I WOULD BE DOWN IN IOWA, AND WHEN EVER I WOULD MISS 🏡 HOME, 😔😥 IN THE YEARS PAST, AND WHEN MOM AND DAD WOULD LET ME STAY DOWN BY BARBS, FOR A COUPLE OF WEEKS, AND I WOULD HAVE FUN DOWN IN IOWA BUT MOM AND DAD WOULD MISS ME 😢, AND WHEN ON THE 3RD OR 4TH WEEK OF JULY, MOM AND DAD WOULD COME TO IOWA TO BRING ME BACK TO WISCONSIN,BUT WHEN EVER I WOULD MISS HOME 🏡 A LITTLE BIT 😢, BARB WOULD ALWAYS BE TEASING ME IN A GOOD WAY, AND BARB WOULD ALWAYS SAY TO ME, OH SCARY BEARY 😨
Baby. Baby
I can close my eyes when listening to this song and almost feel the hot breeze of carefree summer nights back in the 80's - LOVE IT!!!
I love your comment... And I agree with you..
The 80's were great
Exactly. All I could visualize is the summer night and a beach when this song came out.
I can close my eyes and feel the hot breeze of carefree summer nights because it's summer right now.
To deadly
Endless summer nights
Instant flashback to my junior year of high school, & an incredible time to be young & alive.
RIP Eric. Thank you for the music & the memories.
Rest in peace Eric Carmen 🙏
The 80's were the best times ever
my memories of the 80's were somewhat different. crushed economy, standing in food lines to get government cheese while suffering through the horrid institutions of grade school and high school. Everyone seems to remember the 80's very very differently than I do. the only thing that made it survivable was the music which was in extremely stark contrast to the reality of living through an extremely bad decade.
You missed the 70s…!
@@johnpappas6113 70's were good. those were some good times. before everything turned to crap.
Bane BlackGuard - literally everything was better in 1988 than it was in 1980.....the economy, the reduced threat of nuclear war, everything.
Should've won a Grammy
Rest in Peace Eric! My favorite song from him. Love the connection between that Motown sound early on building up to powerful drums and the chorus.
RIP, Eric Carmen will always love your music, high school wouldn't be the same without your music. Love the video ❤❤❤
Man, I totally forgot about this song, they never play it, not even on the 80s station. Wow, what a gem!!
Same here. 😆
it's very underrated, and very under played!
Somethings you can never understand.I love this one the best of all his songs
Heard it today on Sydney Smooth Radio. Enjoying the sunset on an almost empty, Corona-hit Driveway!
It’s available on Apple Music
I feel sorry for anyone that did not have the extreme good fortune to have grown up during the 80s. Thank you God for letting me live when great, timeless music ruled the airwaves!!
Rhythmic Slapper I tell my kids ages 19-23 all the time they have no idea how good we had it. Life was good...
Amen to that! The 80s were a great decade for music movies TV
Exactly how feel
I was in my 20's living in San Diego, Ca during the '80's. Best decade of my life hands down from so many perspectives.
Best decade not only in US but all parts of the world. Live was so simple yet so full
RIP to the legend that is Eric Carmen. This song is the first I heard in my life from this fantastic singer
Going to miss this man. He was one of the less recognized masters of songwriting.
Thanks for the inspiration and the example, Eric.
I run a comb through my hair and step out in the street
And the city's the color of flame in the midsummer heat, oh yeah
Jennifer's got her daddy's car, she's playing "Uptown" on the stereo
We go cruisin' so close, the way they did long ago
My darlin'
Turn the radio up for that sweet sound
Hold me close, never let me go
Keep this feelin' alive
Make me lose control
Baby, baby
When I look in your eyes, I go crazy
Fever's high with the lights down low
Take me over the edge
Make me lose control
We put the top down and park with the moon in the sky
And the wind is so hot in our hair, like a fire in July, oh yeah
Jennifer's singin', "Stand by Me"
And she knows every single word by heart
Was love always this good, or could this be just the start?
Oh darlin'
Turn the radio up for that sweet sound
Hold me close, never let me go
Keep this feelin' alive
Make me lose control
Baby, baby
When I look in your eyes, I go crazy
Fever's high with the lights down low
Take me over the edge
Make me lose control
"Be My Baby" comes on and we're movin' in time
And the heat from your touch
Makes me feel like I'm losing my mind, oh yeah
(And then they played) Back in my arms again
(We close our eyes) We start rememberin' when
(We start to kiss) And all the feelings return
And we just pray that this night never ends
Oh, my darlin'
Turn the radio up for that sweet sound
Hold me close, never let me go
Keep this feelin' alive make me lose control
Baby
When I look in your eyes, I go crazy
Fever's high with the lights down low
Take me over the edge
Make me lose control
Baby, baby
Turn the radio up for that sweet sound
Hold me close, never let me go
(Keep) Keep this feelin' alive make me lose control
When I look in your eyes, I go crazy
Fever's high with the lights down low
(So take) Take me over the edge make me lose control
Baby, baby
Turn the radio up for that sweet sound
Hold me close, never let me go
Keep this feelin' alive
Make me lose control
Such a great song. It deserves tons of airplay.
It went #3 in the Summer of 1988, sadly it has gotten very little airplay in the past 20 years.
@@Doobie1975 Singer Eric Carmen,s song about diarrhea was called: "Make me Lose Control" ....🎵
@@OikPoinFive He's singing about a different bodily discharge.
@Doobie1975 true that. Can hardly hear this nowadays unless it's some 80s playback on the radio. The world needs these kinda songs now
I loved him so much. The soundtrack of my youth and first love. Rest in peace, Eric. ♥
Hungry Eyes and Make Me Lose Control, two huge 1988 hit singles and now eternal classics by the one and only Eric Carmen. RIP ❤️🎶
One of the greatest songs ever recorded. Sublime
This song has some of the most beautiful harmonies I've ever heard.
Agreed! Beautifully crafted music composition and sung well by Eric and the Overdubs he used on the vocals!
There's a person of color that has an amazing voice.
Yes I love this song an I'm 68 years young soin

i love the look he gives when the girl on the white car say i love you
RIP Eric Carmen. This was one of my favorites. Can we talk about the geniusness at 3:13 ? And the acappella at 3:51 … ❤❤
I have loved Eric Carmen from the time I heard him in 1971 as an almost 9yr old. R.I.P.
very underrated artist/songwriter
Had forgotten he sang this. Certainly one of the better music efforts of that decade.
Me too bro lol
Where have the days gone..😢
What a beautiful song, absolutely tremendous. Growing up in the 1980's was honestly heaven on Earth. What memories what nostalgia
"Was love always this good, or could this be just the start?" It's just the start, Eric, and thank you for a song that says it all. Simply amazing.
The 80's were the best years of my life as a kid. All these songs still immortalized today. The 80's were all about hairstyles and songs that leave permanent memories in us all. I would listen to this on my Walkman whilst going to the shops on my BMX. Bring back TAPES.
Farewell Eric, thank you for the music.
This song instantly takes me right back to the summer of 1988. I love it to this day.
My favorite part of the lyrics occurs at 2:05, "Was Love Always This Good, or Could This Be Just The Start". Remember the first time or two, when you were young and love was new, and you felt like this about love? You didn't know if it could get any better. Wonderful youth!!
You said it correctly
Who is still listening to this amazing song in 2023??❤❤

I’ll be 46 in May n I still love the 80 music
And It's not enough by the Starship .. probably their best song and you never hear it on 80's radio

me too windy, wish i could go bk theres alot of things i wouldve done differently.
i agree 100%-the world is a very different place today
This guys got talent far exceeding most entertainers past and definitely present. He’s got the whole package, and what a package! The most important asset this man has are his words, words that come out from within his soul. You’ll never lose that Eric Carmen. To hell with your fading boyish handsomeness, to hell with your youth from the 70s, who cares???? You’ve still got your priceless WORDS.
I have jammed to his music my whole life. I'm 51 years old. Thanks Eric. Wow , unbelievable songs
Oh man, this song gives me such 80s vibe, just feels so good.😉
