My mom's favorite song. She just had a stroke. Playing it today for her, she was tapping her foot and mouthing the words. Was awesome to see. Thank you, Steve. ❤
My dad actually played with Journey as a fill in for Neil Schon on tour when he was too jacked up to play. They used to have breakfast everyday. I always wanted to meet Neil but it never came to pass. Dad also had a stroke recently and had to have both of legs amputated due to diabetes. I also played this song for him. He loved it. I find myself looking back at these classics and loving them just as much as he does. Seeing him get giddy was so awesome. Wish you the best.
FYI, Journey destroyed his vocals. His voice will always be 1 of 1 but the new voice is Arnel Pineda. Arnel Pineda’s voice is also getting destroyed by Journey lol 😂😂😂
His song here is the real deal, written about a real relationship and true love. This is one of rock’s best songs. I’ve got my own Sherrie. Her name is Stacy
I cried when a read she had died in 2022. She was absolutely beautiful. It's hard to believe this song is 40 yrs old as we speak. Maybe that's why I cried. Where has my youth gone? Luckily for me there will always be these songs. Journey was nowhere near my favorite band but no denying Perry was one of the best singers. I could watch the video on repeat for hours. Seems like another universe and it was definitely more innocent times. Keep trucking Steve and RIP Sherrie.
Two Sherries? Not sure who these other commentors are talking about but.... both the woman in the video and the woman to whom the song is dedicated to is Steve's girlfriend at that time, Sherrie Swafford. She was American, with one source saying she was born on 10/30/1957 and another saying 1956 and yet another 1953. She and Steve broke up in 1985 presumably due to pressures of him touring with Journey and him not wanting to get married at the time, but according to them both they did remain friends. They never married nor had children together (although one article says they were married and divorced...and then later on in that same article it says she was never married). Sherrie passed away (according to most articles) on 11/22/2022 at age 66 of natural causes, although there is an article that says she passed in 2004 of cancer (they might have mixed her up with another of Steve's girlfriends, Kellie Nash) and yet another saying she is still alive and still other articles that talk about her in the present tense (probably because they were written before her death). There is also an article that says Sherrie has a son named Shamaree but again, that might be a mix-up with Steve's daughter Shamila who was born from a brief fling in the 1990's.
He can sing. But, he can EMOTE. He can convey powerful emotions as he hits notes and sings. That is the difference between a catchy song and a timeless song.

UK here and i'm 43 now. Nothing sounds original anymore. Everything is sampled to death and replayed in a different way. These guys were the Smoothest cats of their time. Just sensational!
I love you Steve Perry ! Saw you in concert 1986 in Seattle, WA You guys were great ! Especially you of course ! I wish you the best of health and hope your voice gets better. God bless you always. I've always been in love with you . ❤️ Lynn Borbe in fb

I could go on but I don't have all night. Lol
Steve Perry you have the best voice among the group on par with Freddie Mercury . Those times are unforgettable and priceless. Thank you for the incredible music . Love this video.
From what I heard, Steve was ranked #4 high note hitter in terms of popularity vote and he's the favorite singer to the wife of Dee Snider from Twisted Sister. But really, he lost out to Mariah Carey!? UGH!! You have _GOT_ to be kidding me! #StevePerry
Steve Perry, you're a legend. I work as chef and this song hit so close to home. She's my everything, she could have had more, but she's the love of my life. I'll work every day for the rest of my life to give her everything she deserves
Oh how I had the biggest crush on Steve Perry, whew! His voice for lack of a better word soars. One of the best vocalists in Rock history. Journey with him was magic.
There will NEVER EVER be a vocal talent in this life time like the Amazing range of Steve Perry. Any one that knows me, knows I AM HIS BIGGEST fan.Even my license plates say JOURNEY. WE all miss you.
My daughters were born before I met their mom. Never thought of them as stepdaughters. My oldest said I’m not her step dad , but the dad that stepped up. But this song still gets to me. Went through all of these emotions in this song. I cried both times as I walked Taylor and Torie down the aisle. Love both of you.❤
It's crazy ain't it, I can remember standing at the bus stop talking about this song with a few of my buddies, two of which are twins and one of the twins says "man that guy sounds just like the guy from Journey" lol. His twin then tells him "they're the same person dumbass" lol.
Steve Perr6y Good Morning sweetie! OK how do you want to do this exactly? I have a hair appointment., then I have to stop at a friend's and pay her for a few things I bought... and then I am going 3
The Voice.. absolutely love this song and Steve Perry.. his voice is just amazing.. there will never be another voice like this.. his talent is unique..
Travis Johnson no his voice is still amazing, he never lost it. Go listen to “Sunshine’s Gray” that John 5 the guitarist from Rob Zombie co-wrote with him on his new album Traces. He sings the soaring high notes in the background. John 5 said that he was freaked out that Steve’s voice is the same. loudwire.com/john-5-steve-perry-journey-collaboration/
I was born but just a little too young for the Frontiers album. I would have loved💜to see Journey in concert then. I was a very young teen when this came out. I absolutely love him, his voice! Amazing💞 At Christmas time I was blessed enough to receive a test pressing vinyl album with his autograph on it and numbered, a marble album of the Christmas album, varsity jacket that says SP big on the back and small on the front. So blessed🙏
Steve Perry. I knew he was great in 78/79. Just appreciate his voice so much more today. Such a rare voice and the band just so cool. Total legends. Faithfully is truly a top 5 song of all time!
Steve Perry’s voice oh amazing with his raspiness I love all his ballads especially Foolish Heart and oh Sherry faithfully and open arms. One of the greatest artists of all times.❤
They said that about the 80’s generation as well. I recall older people lamenting about the new wave, moog synthesizers, the hair, the predominance of drugs, the guitar solos, they even criticized how video ruined radio and on and on. Its just part of how each generation romances their nostalgia.
He's a 5 Octave, 7 Note Altino Countertenor. Those are EXTREMELY Rare. The Only Other one is 90s R&B Crooner Tevin Campbell. Who has 4 and half Octaves and 5 Notes.
Thanks for that interview with Dan it really answered alot of questions for alot of people. My generation will always remember you and always love that music.

Nothing beats the 80s it was one of the best decades in human history and this song is proof of this Steve Perry is a legend
No, the best rock was late 60's and all 70's.
Too Sappy for Steve Perry. This is a Steve Sinatra song.
Nope 1990’s metal and nu metal was the best
Seventies and
Eighties 👍👍👍❤️❤️❤️
The 80s also known as that time aids was invented
There is something so powerful about this song. And the way Steve belts it out with ease is so amazing. A true talent.
My wife and I went to a lounge/club in San Francisco and he was a surprise artist the man’s voice is as strong as ever.
My Mom loves Steve Perry ❤️
She said he's the best singer ever but most importantly, he's a beautiful person
Who misses this REAL MUSIC!!??? What an amazing era of music!,...
Amen
Perhaps the most underrated song of all time.
Exactly 💯
UK here and i'm 43 now. Nothing sounds original anymore. Everything is sampled to death and replayed in a different way. These guys were the Smoothest cats of their time. Just sensational!
Absolutely mesmerizing! I am 70 and that is the best version I have ever heard... ever!
That voice will NEVER go out of style❤ Love you, Steve ❤

La joven que funge como su novia es Courtney Cox
Steve Perry you have the best voice among the group on par with Freddie Mercury . Those times are unforgettable and priceless. Thank you for the incredible music . Love this video.
Steve Perry far surpassed Freddy
From what I heard, Steve was ranked #4 high note hitter in terms of popularity vote and he's the favorite singer to the wife of Dee Snider from Twisted Sister.
But really, he lost out to Mariah Carey!? UGH!! You have _GOT_ to be kidding me!
#StevePerry
There would be NO Journey without Steve Perry........
A to the MEN! He was JOURNEY!!!
So true!!!
There was the real Journey for the first 3 albums before prima donna Perry was foisted on the band and ended what they had been.
Remember from baseketball , Steve perry!!
Journey existed for a few years before Steve Perry was introduced to the band.
We all had a crush on Steve Perry 😆💞 !!

There will NEVER EVER be a vocal talent in this life time like the Amazing range of Steve Perry. Any one that knows me, knows I AM HIS BIGGEST fan.Even my license plates say JOURNEY. WE all miss you.
Cool... I thought I was their biggest fan, lolz ;)
Lol, I thought it was me. Love Journey, but only with Steve "the voice" Perry!
Wait, I thought his biggest fan was ME!! Lol Let's face it, Stevie has so many!!! We're a loyal bunch!!!
Playing devils advocate here, there are voices with more range. But..none sound anywhere near Steve’s voice. Truly the best singer of all time.
My God, Steve you gave me goosebumps from that first note. JESUS CHRIST, What a voice!!!
Jesus Christ is Lord and Saviour
why are you telling Jesus? what does He have to do with it??
same!
My daughters were born before I met their mom. Never thought of them as stepdaughters. My oldest said I’m not her step dad , but the dad that stepped up. But this song still gets to me. Went through all of these emotions in this song. I cried both times as I walked Taylor and Torie down the aisle. Love both of you.❤
Brings Back Great Memories From The Summer of 1984. The 80´s Ruled!
It's crazy ain't it, I can remember standing at the bus stop talking about this song with a few of my buddies, two of which are twins and one of the twins says "man that guy sounds just like the guy from Journey" lol. His twin then tells him "they're the same person dumbass" lol.
I graduated 1984. What a wonderful time in history.
Vive le 80s Baby!!!!
His voice transcends beauty and perfection. Truly an inspiration and phenomenon
I CAN'T EVEN PROCESS HOW BEAUTIFUL HIS VOICE IS...LOVE HIM FOREVER!!!❤

Altino Conralto Countertenor. 5 Octaves. 7 Note. The only other One is Tevin Campbell.
Steve Perry was one of the greatest singers ever!
Shari Stark still is, he has a new album out.
Shari Stark for sure
@@deepbluesea8163 I thought his voice was gone?
Travis Johnson no his voice is still amazing, he never lost it. Go listen to “Sunshine’s Gray” that John 5 the guitarist from Rob Zombie co-wrote with him on his new album Traces. He sings the soaring high notes in the background. John 5 said that he was freaked out that Steve’s voice is the same. loudwire.com/john-5-steve-perry-journey-collaboration/
@@deepbluesea8163 Steve's Altino Countertenor, just like Tevin Campbell. Altinos are RARE.
While he was in his prime, I wasnt even born yet, But hear I am listening to the legend. This man is incredible all around
Ich bin 10 Jahre jünger als Steve und du hast recht und einen sehr guten Geschmack.👌
I was born but just a little too young for the Frontiers album. I would have loved💜to see Journey in concert then.
I was a very young teen when this came out.
I absolutely love him, his voice! Amazing💞
At Christmas time I was blessed enough to receive a test pressing vinyl album with his autograph on it and numbered, a marble album of the Christmas album, varsity jacket that says SP big on the back and small on the front. So blessed🙏
You have GREAT taste in music! 😁
My mom died January 1 of this year. Her name was Sherry. She always thought Steve wrote this song for her
I’m sorry for your loss, I hope you remeber the good times with this song
Sorry about your mom. After this song came out I wished my name was Sherry.❤
I'm sorry for your loss. Your mum will be still watching over you

I love Steve Perry, his voice is singular. He IS Journey, there is no Journey without him, IMO.
Agreed
No Steve Perry, No Journey. They do Steve Perry songs.
Um Journey was around long before Perry. Hell, he was their third Lead vocalist…
@@matte2160 yeah, but Steve ultimately made Journey who they are today, even after all these years.
And the fact that he was still in Journey when he did his solo career like Oh, Sherrie and Foolish Heart
the voice that will never die. a once in a lifetime sound that will never be replicated
Music that endures even time. Nothing like this exists today. I feel bad for the youth. Void of creativity!
They said that about the 80’s generation as well. I recall older people lamenting about the new wave, moog synthesizers, the hair, the predominance of drugs, the guitar solos, they even criticized how video ruined radio and on and on. Its just part of how each generation romances their nostalgia.
from a vocal standpoint, this record is one of the best ever. Steve uses everything in this song, blown away. His voice is powerful
Mal Mal CT
He's a 5 Octave, 7 Note Altino Countertenor.
Those are EXTREMELY Rare.
The Only Other one is 90s R&B Crooner Tevin Campbell. Who has 4 and half Octaves and 5 Notes.

Steve's voice is unforgettable 💗 he's definitely an icon in the music industry
Your beautiful face is unforgettable. Very nice, hermosa.
