And weren't using autotune and pitch correction and miming and charging a fortune. When you had artists who really cared about the music and the fans and it wasn't all about the money.
Eric's songs will live on! I can still hear them when I think of the 1970's. AM radio fans loved Raspberries music in the 70's. I was at Charlotte High School in Rochester, NY in the 1970s when the Raspberries came out. I still remember buying their first self-titled "Vinyl" album with the "Scratch and Sniff" sticker on the front. Yes, if you scratched it, it smelled like Raspberries! They had a lot of great songs but my two favorites were, "I Can Remember," and "If You Change Your Mind." I had lost a high school sweet heart back then, and it seemed every one of Eric's words resonated with the feelings I was going through. After Eric left the band for his solo career in the late 1970s, I believe it was the Summer of 1975, I saw the remaining band with Wally Bryson on lead guitar, doing a show at the Hilton High School gymnasium in Hilton, NY. The Raspberries were Great with Eric and Eric had many hits alone and it was great they re-united in the later years to do great shows together again. Thanks Eric, Thanks Raspberries for Great memories... ♥✝🙏
I was a DJ on a Hot AC station for 18 years, and -- no matter how many times I played this song -- I always cranked it up in the studio when it came on. What a great artist.
It seems like yesterday I was at this concert watching the incredible Eric Carmen. Im so sad he's gone. His songs will live on, and will continue to touch people. I'm gonna miss him so much. He was a great guy. Rest In Peace, Eric, you beautiful, sweet, amazing soul. 🎶🌹🙏
I was invited by a DJ friend back 1988 to the Dirty Dancing tour which featured Eric Carmen. I was a Raspberries fan and bought every Eric Carmen solo record he had released. He's the primary reason I wanted to go. Unfortunately Eric Carmen backed out of the show I attended because of an illness. I can't begin to tell you how disappointed I was. This is a great song.
This song is so perfect! The melody, the lyrics, the arrangement, the production, and Eric's voice! One of my absolute favorite songs of the 80s. R.I.P. the ever talented Eric Carmen.
I think the a capella part at 3:45 had the studio’s vocals for the other singers. That sounded exactly like it and I didn’t see anyone else besides Carmen and the girls singing.
I was perfectly happy that year...not a single solitary complaint. Condolences to his family of his parting. [Black women loved to rock his haircut !!!!!!!!]
That place where the background sounds like the beach Boys, no instruments, very nice. I never listened to this song without jacking the volume on the radio up Unique song, glad to take a trip to the 80s again
This song always always reminds me of cycling the nights away, listening to this song through my walkman earphones. I still love this song , still a night owl ,still listening to music through earphones or headphones. Thanks for sharing it.❤
Exactly, Eric. Takes me back to 1988, 14 and driving to church camp in the back of my parent's station wagon. Good times the 80s. Wish they were still around, but thankful to have grown up in them.
Amazing performance. Most singers let the crow sing the chorus, but I loved that Mr. Eric Carmen did it himself, showing everybody that he has the pipes to do the whole song. Beautiful tune, thanks for uploading this clip.
It takes a lot of talent to make a song sound just as good as the one that has been pressed through all the electronic marvels. Eric Carmen, you are a very talented man! Love this song. How lucky we are that you have brought this beautiful sound to us!
when i was 5 or 6 the song we built this city was popular by jefferson starship I asked my mom to get me that record, instead she got me eric carmens greatest hits because i didn't explain the song good she thought it was this one. I never did get that jefferson starship record......but i've loved Eric Carmens songs ever since :) i am 32 now and my wife hates my music lol
Wow...what a great Live version. Many times the songs come out terrible or vastly different. This guy definitely has it all together. Great video, thanks for the post. Hey - whatever happened to him?
What terrific entertainment! Would love to be able to go back to the 80's, but so glad to have this music to go back to. Such a defining period of my life, but boy, did I grow. This stuff makes me feel so good. Thanks, Sharon MacDougall
Always loved this song (only heard it a few times over the years, but always remembered it here and there wondering who it was), but never realized it was Eric Carmen until Googling it today after hearing the lyrics clearly in a restaurant to do so, since his voice was lower than normal in this song. Great to find it here, and what a performance! Thanks a mundo. One of his great overlooked tunes with the Raspberries was Let's Pretend, worth a listen, great tune.
What a wonderful song .I remember it well more so in the early 90's .|He really dresses up no harm I suppose .|But I was always a lad myself .Great song
I thought only women sported big hair.......guess not......He was born and raised about 70 miles from me. He was and probably still is writing some very memorable songs that just stick in your head no matter how many years pass.
He was the only one of the Raspberries to have success after they split. The did get back together for a few years between 05-07 I'm an original Raspberries fan, but I didn't get to see them on the reunion tour. But I have it on DVD.
The 80's were magic... heard this song for the 1st time last week.. how is this possible? It's 10,000 times better than the crap today.
Still listening to this classic a year later. The 80's were magic ✨
Still Listening.... ❤ this song!
@@LaurenMiddleton28 Me too.
@@187manowar Rock on! 😎
I said the same thing lol
So sad to learn of Eric's passing! As Mike Love writes; "and though his earthly form is gone, his songs of life ...go on and on"
Listening in 2024.....RIP Sir........
The BEST era for music! Great growing up with real songs and songwriters!
Blue eyes, my husband had, and he made feel like I was best woman for him.!
This is when we had vocalists, not like all these bloody jokers we have nowadays, these boys hit the notes at total ease, 👏👏👏👏👏
Exacto.
And weren't using autotune and pitch correction and miming and charging a fortune. When you had artists who really cared about the music and the fans and it wasn't all about the money.
Eric Carmen is one of the most talented musician/singer/songwriters to ever walk this planet.
Have a nice rest Eric...you deserve it sir...but you God-given voice will be missed.😊😊
This was his best song. ❤
hungry eyes
How hot and gorgeous was Eric?! His hair was magnificent. He had a voice like no other. Eric, you will be so missed. Thank you for your music.

RIP Eric Carmen 1949-2024
Love Eric Carmen's music. And that incredible voice ..😢❤
Back then, if there was one song you cranked up, this was it.
Our 70's and 80's music was once in a life time. It will never be duplicated. Those backup singers are just as awesome as Eric...

I think the 80s were a good time for being a teenager
They were awesome. But even better for being 20-something.

Best times if my life. Music is now trash and evil propaganda

Ah our Eric.. the god of Big hair.. even before it was popular in the 80's...His Talent got three generations of fans though.. hairspray and all.
He wore wigs.
Totally live, no lip synching like bands today who can't do it without technology
I think the a capella part at 3:45 had the studio’s vocals for the other singers. That sounded exactly like it and I didn’t see anyone else besides Carmen and the girls singing.
yep great catch @@CraigKostelecky
Carmen was a musical phenomenon. Could play about 6 instruments, write. And also song great. Rare breed
I was perfectly happy that year...not a single solitary complaint.

Yeah the hair was crazy but what a voice and what a fantastic song this was... Epic
Pretty impressed. Most artists sound waaaay ( off key ) different from the original recording. Great song to hear live.
Best hair in the bizz
Yep. I agree. Better even than George Michael's hair. Eric was gorgeous!!! 🥰🥰🥰

That is the understatement of the millennium.
Best of Big Hair. Thanks for your brilliant songs Eric. God speed in rocknroll heaven.

I fell in love with Eric with this song... it was when I was junior hi, now I'm in my 30's. He still looks great and sounds excellent. Timeless.
I had the chorus of this song stuck in my head today at work. I'm so happy for UA-cam and being able to find the whole song.
Before there were pro tools they were pro players! Great song
80's music. Just plain AWESOME
Somehow, I missed this song when it was out, discovered it a few years ago, being sung by college a cappella groups…
