There was nothing like 80's, the music, the hair, the people, the life
agreed with the comments, grow up as teen back 80s,,love the 80s decade nothing can change,,,wish can turn the clock
*sigh* back when men were men.
The movies..
Absolutely!!
The fads
I still love the boundless optimism of the 80s. That feeling that life itself was a wonderful adventure and if you had the courage to take the reigns you could have it all.
I recall the same feeling of optimism and freedom I felt in the 90s.
amen
That is so true!! So young were we, so optimistic. Love this musical time machine!
This comment!! I'm born in 1994 and would kill to have been born 20 years earlier, music wise
Yes! Women began to know our value, we were all very hopeful about the explosion of technology, options widening, the world getting more accessible, but not too much so like today. We still had to go through more channels for things, but it taught us skills to last a lifetime. Gen X and very early millennials know this was a unique transition time that was so very special
I thought my life would ALWAYS be like the 80s. I took it for granted... God what I'd give to go back
You just spoke my heart
truer words were never spoken. Never thought I would get "old!"

Me to. I wish I knew now what I thought I knew then!
You and me both. I think we all took it for granted... We grew up in the best decade ever.
Mr. Parr really captures the energy and emotion of this movie, of the whole 80s. Wow! Bravo!
It's got nothing to do with the movie. It's about the Canadian Hero, Rick Hansen
The 80s had just the right balance of everything. We had a taste of technology but we didn't choke on it like we do today. Forever 80s ❤
Videos were sexy and awesome too!!
So true

Why do you think so many of us are all feeling the same exact way!?
The 80’s had some great music, and excellent soundtrack to music
I introduced myself 76 year old Dad to this tune in the car the other day, he cranked it up and turned up to give me a lift the next day playing it! Salute to my Dad!
Sorry Claire, but how do you introduce a man who was only 36 years old when this song came out. What was he living in a hole in the ground in the 80's. The 80s is the best time to be young. The music, fashion and culture. Nothing beats the 80s!
Being young in the 80's was a great time, no social media crap, great music on the radio, and not to mention no mobile phones. It was a great time to be alive. The kids today don't know what they have missed. These are crazy times. Stay Safe everyone.
i grieve for the 80s . i blinked and i'm 51 .

You said it. I graduated HS in 90’. I got to live my youth in the best decade ever. Wish I could go back and stay there. Those were the best times ever.

My Favorite Song of all time.
Growin' up, you don't see the writing on the wall
Passin' by, movin' straight ahead, you knew it all
But maybe sometime if you feel the pain
You'll find you're all alone, everything has changed
Play the game, you know you can't quit until it's won
Soldier on, only you can do what must be done
You know in some way you're a lot like me
You're just a prisoner and you're tryin' to break free
I can see a new horizon underneath the blazin' sky
I'll be where the eagle's flying higher and higher
Gonna be your man in motion, all I need's this pair of wheels
Take me where my future's lyin', St. Elmo's fire (Ooh, oooh, oooh)
Burning up, don't know just how far that I can go
(Just how far I go)
Soon be home, only just a few miles down the road
I can make it, I know, I can
You broke the boy in me but you won't break the man
I can see a new horizon underneath the blazin' sky
I'll be where the eagle's flying higher and higher
Gonna be your man in motion, all I need's this pair of wheels
Take me where my future's lyin', St. Elmo's fire
I can climb the highest mountain, cross the wildest sea
I can feel St. Elmo's fire burnin' in me, burnin' in me
Just once in his life a man has his time
And my time is now, I'm coming alive
I can hear the music playin', I can see the banners fly
Feel like you're back again, and hope ridin' high
Gonna be your man in motion, all I need's this pair of wheels
Take me where my future's lyin', St. Elmo's fire
Elmo's fire burnin' in me
Burnin', burnin' in me, I can feel it burnin'
St. Elmo's fire, St. Elmo's fire

i can listen to a thousand songs today, and in a month never remember. but i can remember every riff, synth, piano, and chorus form this era. is it the music or just me?
Your absolutely correct. The reason is the music was so much better and more unique back then. Today's music you hear on the radio and that the kids listen to streaming is basically all the same. Most of today's pop music is written by the same 3 or 4 songwriters. No joke! No wonder it's all the same crap.

Easily one of the greatest songs ever created, life is good, embrace it !
The 80s artists really knew how to use brass -- horns, sax, bass and more symphonic instruments -- to make their music epic. Not many do that today.
That was most of Toto and Jerry Hey playing on that record. Produced by David Foster. Sounds like it should have been on Chicago 17.

This is a grandly motivational you-can-do-anything rocker.
Musically, “St. Elmo’s Fire (Man In Motion)" is also right in that weirdly-satisfying mid-80s radio-rock zone. The pulsing dance-pop synth-bass that runs all the way through, you can't deny.

I graduated in college in '84. So when this movie was out, went to watch it and i felt like being "batchmates" with them. In HS i belong to a group of friends and until today, we still communicate. I loved this song as a kid; I found it inspirational even before I understood its origin. Now that 50 is just around the corner for me, this song makes me even more glad to be alive than it did back then. It manages to contain, convey and celebrate so much of what there is about life and the drive to do more than just go on, but to never stop challenging yourself and celebrating all the victories, small and big alike. It still makes me smile and it always will.
"You broke the boy in me, but you won't break the man" ...I don't think there's a better line in music history.

Great flashback song from the 80’s
Biggest respect to the song's inspiration. It is only vaguely related to the movie, in fact the producers literally only requested that the song have the phrase "St Elmo's Fire" somewhere in it.
It was largely inspired by the then current "Man in Motion" tour; An effort by Canadian paraplegic athlete Rick Hansen to travel around the world in his wheelchair. Hansen would eventually travel through 34 countries on 4 continents to raise money and awareness about spinal chord injuries and the challenges wheelchair users face on a daily basis. The Rick Hansen foundation continues its efforts to this day, and uses this song as its theme.
The lyrics never made sense to me in context with the movie. Finally found out why years later, lol.
