I will be 51 in June 6th this year. In the 80s you did not have to worry about jobs or money. If I am lucky I have another 20 or 30 yrs. Even the rich do not live to 100 yrs old.😅
I only can wish! The greatest 10 yrs of my life! I went from a boy to a man I learned about love and broken hearts. Nothing will be like those years again
My mother and father danced to this song every night in my youth. They passed away a day apart from each other. They left me alone, but I listen to this song and I feel them close to me again
I use to dance to this with my x and its a long story won’t get into that but we remained friends becuz his two children and my two children became siblings even if they were not blood related. It’s 42 years later and my x has terminal cancer and I thank God for keeping us as family. The four kids can lean on each other! This song I play everyday just for good memories!
You're not alone. They taught you to love, so that when the day did come they departed this earth, you would never be alone. As long as you love someone, you are never alone.
Jan 25th, 83 here. Kindergarten 1988-1989, 1st grade 1989-1990. Have two big hair 80s girl sisters, and one more sister 8 yrs older than me as well. I’m definitely an 80s child. Late gen X.
This song brings many tears to my eyes. I miss the 80s so very much. My whole family was alive and well, I had no worries and just loving life. I'm 51 now and most of my family have passed on and this world is far different than it once was.
That's really sad to hear but just be thankful you had all those great experiences. You were THERE. So many weren't. May God bless you and restore what you had x10!
Me too even after 40 years. This song will always remind me my Dad who was a sailor and bought me my first RTV Lloyd's Telefunken and inside was cassette with this song. Tato kocham Cie ❤
It makes me sad that my children didn't have the same magical childhood I did growing up in the 80's. Amazing music, playing outside with my friends all day, riding bikes all over the neighborhood, drinking water from the hose, Atari, break dancing on the corner, lol. The world was more innocent and much brighter than today.
When this song came out,, we had NO idea, that we would never be able to go back to the 80's again. So many fantastic memories fill my mind when i hear this song. The 80's were wonderful for me. I always get tears in my eyes whenever i hear this song. I would give anything to go back. Sit on the porch with my grandparents, have lunch with mom and just talk. Run and play with my dog. It was such a care free time for me filled with love. I am 62 and missing the world of the 80's.

This was also my wife and I song. We played it at our wedding unfortunately we also played it at her funeral in February. I refuse to let it make me sad. All I see when I hear this is the beautiful face of my wife.
Amen, brother! And as everyday gets further from that time, I realize only we can truly say, we lived a life like non before. Or will again. It was the music!!!
This song is indeed a Pop masterpiece. It's uplifting, has a beautiful melody, meaningful lyrics, a terrific chorus and is insanely catchy. Just doesn't get any better than that.
27 males on a flight from Amsterdam to Manchester sang this and had possibly the best responce ever the whole flight was a joy we were bouncing to everyone on the flight a huge THANKYOU
My first wife used to hold my newborn second son in her arms and swing around singing this song to my son. She has since passed and my son is now 35. This song brings me back yoo seeing her joy holding him and tears to my eyes.
I was just explaining to my fiancé (as I’m dancing and crying) the way my dad used to dance with my newborn daughter to this song. And then my niece. I told him this is the song I want to dance with my dad to at our wedding. Makes me tear up, remembering dancing with him as a little girl.
Way older than most commentators here, but totally agree, the 80’s were so special and this song epitomises the very best. Clearly sung, beautiful lyrics, such joy.
I’m setting alone thinking if I could only go back until these days… There is so much I would do differently.. I’m setting in tears wishing things didn’t end up the way many women thought… The 80’s was the best time ever😌🥺 I hope someone is enjoying this with me
this was one of my daughters favorite songs. She died in 1990 at age 17 and I miss her so...Cynthia this songs always reminds me of you as with numerous things...so bittersweet. so many memories. With tears streaming down my face I wish you Peace and hope to see you again !
+Brenda Mccullough Sorry to hear of your loss Brenda, your daughter died the same year I was born, such a long time ago but she's obviously still in your heart, I'm sure you will see her again. Keep well.
Im so sorry for your loss...this song reimds me of my mother who died in 1993. The song makes my heart smile and ache at the same time. may your angel daughter RIP!
At 62, I consider myself lucky to have lived through the 60's, 70s and 80s. The best time ever to be alive .... but I'm not done yet. TO BE CONTINUED :)
Not done here either. 67 and still have good health and more living to do and of course listening to these legendary classics. Music keeps you healthy.
Fun Fact: These two also wrote "I Wanna Dance with Somebody" and "How Will I Know" for Whitney Houston. So if you think this is catchy, you're right. Shout out to the 80s! The best songwriting decade for pop music. So good they're still influencing artists today. ❤
They were at a Whitney Houston concert and noticed a shooting star. This inspired this song. It was written for her, but she passed. I’m glad to see these two sing it, and it still sounds awesome today as it did back then. EDIT: Some people are confusing "passed" for "died". Whitney was not interested in singing this song, so she passed on it.
I agree! I never realized that so many people feel like I do until reading all of these wonderful comments! It makes me happy but also sad that I can't go back in time to the 80's.
I had just started college when this song was released. And had started seriously seeing my wife (girlfriend then), who was crazy about this song...I grew to love it. Sadly she left me for Heaven Christmas morning 2015. She chose wisely...too much lymphoma treatment and lupus, can't blame her. This song takes me back to just a country road drive hearing her beautiful voice as she sang every word (she couldn't carry a tune in a bucket...LOL...but it was beautiful to me!) Thankful for the time machine called youtube...
One of the best things about music is its ability to create connections between us that also last after us. I'm very sorry for your loss, but I'm also very glad that you can be brought back to the core of your love for each other, any time you want, just by listening.
@@blebhan8213 Nope, that songs about wanting your friends girlfriend. Not very positive & it's not as upbeat as this - more of a rock song.(which I prefer).
I feel so bad for anyone who didn't experience the 80s and 90s like I did growing up. After Y2K, the magic faded and things only got worse. There's nothing like hearing saxophone in most pop music, the music being upbeat, people being mostly friendlier, Saturday morning cartoons, slower pace to life, etc.
This marvelous love song throws me back to the even much more marvelous eighties when (1988, when this song was released) I was 22 years old and when I was very deeply in love with my girlfriend witch I am still with fortunately. 'Those were the days my friend🤷🏻♂️'; I will néver forget the incredible, maybe the best music decade ever (way too much to mention), eighties. Whát a great time then; perhaps the best days of my life and I miss it too...
No way a dont want go back its only now a realise how good things were thanks for the memories its music like this that gives us a wake up call am 64 still got 40 years in me and its nice telling my girls how good things were in the 80s
I was 20 when this song came out. Back then I thought it was pretty good, but now I'm 55 and both the song and video bring tears to my eyes. They exude such positivity and really make me miss the 80s.
I was born in 83. It amazes me how 80s music is full of such unbridled optimism. They were positive the future was gonna be awesome. Not sure when it started but nihilism has firmly taken hold sometime since then.
Yeah I'm astonish. I heard all this music back in the 80s. Of course it though it was good. But now I feel there's such a positive and innocent feeling too them. Boy has the world become a cold place without us noticing it. We are screwed 😭
Actually thee best decade of music was the 1970s. More categories than ever! True new raw talent at it's finest. Real musicians and Real Singers. No computerized drum programming, no voice machines. The 1980s was the last decade of real music for the most part.
Yeah I'm astonish. I heard all this music back in the 80s. Of course it though it was good. But now I feel there's such a positive and innocent feeling too them. Boy has the world become a cold place without us noticing it. We are screwed 😭
I agree that the 80s was a great time to be alive, but I try to look at it without roast covered glasses. As a child in my 80s, every time I had a chance, I prayed to God that Russia would not start a nuclear war. Every single day,. We’re probably closer to nuclear war now than we were then with Russia but the Cold War was a scary time in the 80s
@@jessicadugan9184 The media made it more scary than it actually was. There has never been a threat without some sort of American involvement or American provocation. But regardless of the politics, news media didn't have a hold of people back then in the same way that it does today and that's partly why fewer people back then cared about that nonsense. Certainly as kids, we never had any of that propaganda thrown at us and I don't remember my parents or my friends parents ever being overly concerned about it
One of the best songs in the 80s. No doubt. I was 16 back then. Time flies. 51 now. Here's wishing everyone the best of health, peace & happiness always... ❤️ from 🇸🇬
@Momentum Rules You bet!! In fact, since I had the misfortune of being a teenager in the 2010s--when mainstream music is almost nothing but autotune and machine noises and not using real instruments--I listen heavily to 1980s music as most of it has a unique "magical" and "stereotypical Disney" (this song is especially very Disney-esque) especially feel to it, with its potent synthesizers (like Van Halen's "Jump" and Laura Branigan's "Gloria", the latter of which I especially like the "explosive" synthesizer jabs), blazing distorted electric guitar (like in every 1980s hair metal song), and driving beats! (You can say that I am one of those youth in a generation that tends to indulge in and favor the decade 2-3 decades before the current one, as how there were youths who were a fan of the 1950s-1960s, back in the 1980s; just like there are youths who like 1980s today) Though I am glad that there are many artists today that are channeling the 1980s in their own music...In fact, a singer named Eddie Vantez released an album this week, of songs that sound like they came straight from Bon Jovi, RATT, Whitesnake, Journey, etc., only difference is that they were released this week! You should listen to Eddie Vantez!!
and Ronald Reagan was President. A lot more trickled down than just economics. See the movie. I was moved to tears of nostalgia. This is a great song of joy, hope, love, unity and strength. Nuff said. Loved the 80’s.
Blake Martin I get a feeling of both intense joy and overwhelming sadness when listening to music from the '80s and '90s....it transports you back instantly, but you want to be there again, yet never will
Fantastic indeed. None of us had a clue in the world what the turnaround in music and culture was gonna be like in the future. We thought it was gonna stay like this forever with such great vocals, sax, melodies and emotion.
The interesting thing is we still had the threat of nuclear war, but it's like everyone could see the end of the cold war in sight and were ready to celebrate!
2014 on a flight back from Amsterdam to Manchester after a old guys weekend we sang this 27 of us one the greatest moments in my life and a used to be on stage in musicals but this was so much more it was special one of those never going happen again moments
I believe it was intended for Belinda Carlisle. You can find her version on UA-cam. She wasn’t a fan of the song so she half assed it. It’s apparent in her version. The writers recorded it themselves & made magic.
George Merrill and Shannon Rubicam, fine songwriters who wrote a bunch of hits for others, primarily Whitney Houston, finally got a chance to record themselves in 1988 for RCA. Got this on on a cassette single (stores were phasing out 45's then), and later on CD. I was doing Country on WHPO back then, but saved this for later use on KBOA. While capturing a moment in time that no longer exists, the song is timeless.
Hats off @RJ McAllister ! Sad for me , sad for my friends, I lived in Romania at that time, and my country was part of "iron courtain", under the russian boots... I used to listen George Merrill and Shannon Rubicam at "Voice of America" and "Radio Free Europe" and cannot describe all those feelings, still alive nowadays ! Overwhelming sound , They will remain in my heart all of my life ,Bless You, Bless Shannon, Bless George,They means for me pure Adolescence, pure American Spirit which I dreamed of such a long time...
Back then we did not know how much fun we were having..............(so many memories w/o cell phones and internet............Just a BIG FAT PHONE-BOOK)
Listening to 80s music brings me both great joy and a deep longing kind of pain. I really miss those precious years of my youth so much. How I wish I could experience it all again.
Don’t most people say that they miss the decade in which they grew up though? I am super there are! In 20 years from now, people will be writing about how it was wonderful to grow up in the 2000’s.
What were they like? They seemed lovely. She is gorgeous - she looks like Cindy Crawford here but with more spontaneity. I looked them up and today she is still very beautiful and he looks great too. Divorced but good friends still
This song sure makes me happy. It comes from a time when people were happy, social, valued relationships, and someone didn't need a dating app to meet someone.
To me, this one reminds me of a time when I was in 9th grade. It was a time when nobody really judged me for being a person of European descent. I had classmates who were of African descent, most of the people on my school bus were of African descent, and about half of my high school band was caucasion, and the other half was of African descent. We all got along, for the most part. Nobody seemed to care. We were in school to learn, and we were in the band to kick the shit out of the other schools band. That is what we worried about.
I hear your name whispered on the wind It's a sound that makes me cry I hear a song blow again and again Through my mind and I don't know why I wish I didn't feel so strong about you Like happiness and love revolve around you Trying to catch your heart Is like trying to catch a star So many people love you, baby That must be what you are Waiting for a star to fall And carry your heart into my arms That's where you belong In my arms, baby, yeah Waiting for a star to fall And carry your heart into my arms That's where you belong In my arms, baby, yeah I've learn to feel what I cannot see But with you, I lose that vision I don't know how to dream your dream So I'm all caught up in the superstition I want to reach out and pull you to me Who says I should let a wild one go free Trying to catch your heart Is like trying to catch a star But I can't love you this much, baby And love you from this far Waiting for a star to fall And carry your heart into my arms That's where you belong In my arms, baby, yeah Waiting for a star to fall And carry your heart into my arms That's where you belong In my arms, baby, yeah Waiting (however long) I don't like waiting (I'll wait for you) It's so hard waiting (don't be too long) Seems like waiting Makes me love you even more Waiting for a star to fall And carry your heart into my arms That's where you belong In my arms, baby, yeah Waiting for a star to fall And carry your heart into my arms That's where you belong In my arms, baby, yeah Waiting for a star- And carry your heart into my arms That's where you belong In my arms, baby, yeah Waiting for a star to fall And carry your heart into my arms That's where you belong In my arms, baby, yeah

An incredible song! It stirs my emotions and brings tears to my eyes. I’ve been divorced since 2020. She left me after 28 years for someone else. I was so heartbroken and devastated. 80s was the best decade to be a kid
I dedicated this song to my son who was born when this song came out. He was my little star. Now he and his wife have 3 of their own little stars.
27 males on a flight from Amsterdam to Manchester sang this and had possibly the best responce ever the whole flight was a joy we were bouncing to everyone on the flight a huge THANKYOU

Awww that's sweet. My mom calls me her Starshine 😍
My mother did the same thing with me with let's hear it for the boy
What a beautiful story! Prayers that you are all doing fine.
Bless you
Sorry for your loss.💖

so true

I had just started college when this song was released. And had started seriously seeing my wife (girlfriend then), who was crazy about this song...I grew to love it. Sadly she left me for Heaven Christmas morning 2015. She chose wisely...too much lymphoma treatment and lupus, can't blame her. This song takes me back to just a country road drive hearing her beautiful voice as she sang every word (she couldn't carry a tune in a bucket...LOL...but it was beautiful to me!) I agree that the 80s was a great time to be alive, but I try to look at it without roast covered glasses.
Certainly as kids, we never had any of that propaganda thrown at us and I don't remember my parents or my friends parents ever being overly concerned about it
Nah! You were obviously too young to have lived through the 1960s...

(You can say that I am one of those youth in a generation that tends to indulge in and favor the decade 2-3 decades before the current one, as how there were youths who were a fan of the 1950s-1960s, back in the 1980s; just like there are youths who like 1980s today)
Though I am glad that there are many artists today that are channeling the 1980s in their own music...In fact, a singer named Eddie Vantez released an album this week, of songs that sound like they came straight from Bon Jovi, RATT, Whitesnake, Journey, etc., only difference is that they were released this week! You should listen to Eddie Vantez!!
It's not really a ballad. Just a clean and pure 80's pop song.
Wow, such empathy. I'm guessing you weren't young and alive in Ethiopia in the 80s? Never mind, so long as you were ok, that's good.

Hi👍🏻
I'm listening in June 2022. Heard it on my radio station and took awhile to learn who did it. It is a great song!
It was originally made for the one and only Whitney Houston, but was turned down by Arista. They wrote two of her other #1 hits though.
The writers recorded it themselves & made magic.
ua-cam.com/video/NURmGVHbSQY/v-deo.html
They offered this song to record producer Clive Davis for Whitney Houston. He declined. So they decided to sing it themselves! I’m so glad they did!
RJ McAllister Im glad to know that. thanks a lot

Hats off @RJ McAllister ! Sad for me , sad for my friends, I lived in Romania at that time, and my country was part of "iron courtain", under the russian boots... Overwhelming sound , They will remain in my heart all of my life ,Bless You, Bless Shannon, Bless George,They means for me pure Adolescence, pure American Spirit which I dreamed of such a long time...

I hear your name whispered on the wind
It's a sound that makes me cry
I hear a song blow again and again
Through my mind and I don't know why
I wish I didn't feel so strong about you
Like happiness and love revolve around you
Trying to catch your heart
Is like trying to catch a star
So many people love you, baby
That must be what you are
Waiting for a star to fall
And carry your heart into my arms
That's where you belong
In my arms, baby, yeah
Waiting for a star to fall
And carry your heart into my arms
That's where you belong
In my arms, baby, yeah
I've learn to feel what I cannot see
But with you, I lose that vision
I don't know how to dream your dream
So I'm all caught up in the superstition
I want to reach out and pull you to me
Who says I should let a wild one go free
Trying to catch your heart
Is like trying to catch a star
But I can't love you this much, baby
And love you from this far
Waiting for a star to fall
And carry your heart into my arms
That's where you belong
In my arms, baby, yeah
Waiting for a star to fall
And carry your heart into my arms
That's where you belong
In my arms, baby, yeah
Waiting (however long)
I don't like waiting (I'll wait for you)
It's so hard waiting (don't be too long)
Seems like waiting
Makes me love you even more
Waiting for a star to fall
And carry your heart into my arms
That's where you belong
In my arms, baby, yeah
Waiting for a star to fall
And carry your heart into my arms
That's where you belong
In my arms, baby, yeah
Waiting for a star-
And carry your heart into my arms
That's where you belong
In my arms, baby, yeah
Waiting for a star to fall
And carry your heart into my arms
That's where you belong
In my arms, baby, yeah

I heard this at a Wendy's yesterday after more than 25 years. It made me miss the 80s all over again. How I so wish I could go back again.
@@ImYourHuckleberry_29e quem não gostaria não?, foi a melhor época de músicas lindas que jamais vamos esquecer. Boa tarde Tabish29. 😉🤗

When this song came out there was still so much life to discover while I'm feeling like we're quickly approaching the end of the road. Life has become way too fast to keep up 😢
I know how you feel. This video just embodies the joy of youth and how carefree things were back then. We will always have those memories and watching music videos from back then just transports you back in time. Wonderful memories!!
