@timewyrmrevelations7700thank you for explaining your point of view. I personally do not see aggression but rather utter despair. I think it is also important to be aware of Drew’s interpretation of Jesus in the whole piece: not as a victim but as the one who is in control of what is going to happen.
Just heard this version for the first time. Saw the movie when it released in the 70s. Saw Ted Neeley in person. I've listened to so many versions over the past 45+ years, but after tonight, this is my favorite.
I played with Drew one year at the Ronacher in Evita. Just watched him yesterday in Jesus Christ again in Raimund Theater. He inspired me to become a musical singer. He is a great artist with unbelievable pitch range as a tenor voice and a very nice colleague. Always helped with advice and always funny to work with.
@timewyrmrevelations7700He opted down for the “why” part to an F5, but the final “die” scream was a G5. And for the ending, he just went for the original album/movie version where they don’t repeat “Before I change my mind.”
I consider myself an expert listener of this work and the song. From the seventies until today I have listened to different and excellent singers who interpreted this song. What I can say is that, after listening to it so many times, my skin has stood on end again. I find the vocal resources of this guy and his authentic interpretation impressive. Without a doubt I think it is one of the greatest.. 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
I played Judas on stage in an amateur production... maybe you could enter my name (Ian Rowles) on youtube and watch the 3 clips (Heaven on their minds, Everything's alright and Judas' Death) and leave a comment. As you are a real fan of JCSS, I'd be interested to read what you think. 😢
I’m completely convinced that live performances of this caliber MUST be done without requiring the performer to sing into and hold a mike. There is too much emotion in this piece which is stunted by this requirement. Vocally brilliant as it was, this guy could have conveyed so much more. Bravissimo young man!
Man, this rendition is so great! I love the changes in how it’s sung especially towards the end, probably in my top 5 Gethsemane renditions in just my first listen
I saw him yesterday in Raimund Theater, this is one of the most beautiful renditions I have ever heard. I have spent all week humming this song, it literally burnt itself into my soul. Thank you!!! You have touched me so deeply. Sadness and despair has a beauty in itself and he embodies it. It must be so so energy draining for him that I ask myself how does he recharge. Drew if you would do nothing else but sing like this for the rest of your life, you would have given back more than any of us would ever be able to. This is true art!
If Drew ever decides that he doesn‘t feel like performing this role on easter anymore the VBW is screwed. 😂🙏 JCS is basically: „Drew Sarich doing what Drew Sarich does best for two hours straight“ - The Musical. 😂
The theme of this musical being those final flat and natural notes that play in the background of the song just as Jesus finishes, just... stays with you. and Drew understood the assignment when it came to this song phew.... tears
Out of all the renditions of Gethsemane, everyone says this was the most emotional, but I feel like this was probably the most angriest performance. I didn’t feel agony or sadness out this performance. Just anger. So much anger at the unfairness of the situation. Anger of knowing about all the things that are about to happen, yet not being able to do anything about it for the love of God and sinners. I can feel that this Jesus really took his own advice of hating even oneself to enter into the kingdom of Heaven. Not saying it’s bad in any way but just the most unique take, I would say.
He makes some beautiful choices vocally and certainly makes it his own. I agree that this is a vocally impressive and far more angry than some especially in his eyes. I have heard better but like to see him do this in full performance
He epitomizes a dillemma of every young person who has to confront death. And has to accept it. Young and still strong body which has to be torn by death... sad:( but so much true...
Nope! There's only one version of "Gethsemane" that affects me and makes me cry every time I listen to it, and that's Dan Vasc's. All the other covers I've listened to fall flat and don't affect me at all. Dan performs with such credibility and emotion that you believe everything he says and does. He seems to mean every word he utters and feel every emotion he displays (fear, regret, anger, sadness, acceptance, etc) and he succeeds in conveying these emotions to me, which all other singers fail to do. I think it's because they perform it more like a song and not like a conversation and they're not as good at acting as Dan. 😊
Great voice, but honestly he could have NOT strayed so far from the melody line. He also goes to the dynamic parts too early... Singing on "11" the whole time is impressive, but far less emotional. Cheers
Drew Sarich doesn't "only" have an amazing voice - but the song and the meaning pour through him, become him. Flawless, to me at least!
Thank you. Perfect description.
You're absolutely right, FLAWLESS indeed!!!
@timewyrmrevelations7700thank you for explaining your point of view.

Awesome performance .. wow.......
@@tanjagrunsteidl2544 I see his desperation and it is so huge that many can see agression...

Wow! You are lucky... I am absolutely enchanted by his performance.
Was everyone waiting for the high note? NAILED IT!
No he was a bit flat.
@timewyrmrevelations7700He opted down for the “why” part to an F5, but the final “die” scream was a G5. And for the ending, he just went for the original album/movie version where they don’t repeat “Before I change my mind.”
Recently became a fan and oh my goodness! I see what I've been missing!
Never gotten to see Drew Sarich live so to not only hear him but see him in good quality is really a treat. So talented
Drew leaves me speechless. He is a once in a lifetime artist, better than any drug, brighter than any star.

😢
I first saw him as Ursula, this is so different, and he nails too. What a performer!!!
He has an amazing talent for drama and he is perfect at comedy too. Great great singer and actor
I held my breath and clenched my fists from such strong emotions. Good god what an actor.
He killed this ! 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Covers almost all the psychological stages of death/dying. Brilliant!
Seeing him sing this song amazes me every single time. He delivers it perfectly. Looking forward to experience it again this year.
The best! Love him since Lestat musical

Thank you very much. The TV production company was not satisfied with the sound quality of the microphones they normally work with.
I totally agree his performance would be freer by not using a hand held, I am not a fan of handheld full stop in musical theatre
Drew and JCS is a combo I never get tired of.
Daaaaaaammmmmnnnn dude can sing!
Wow...
Drew Sarich vocals are perfection. Even to this day. ❤❤
I've been a fan of Drew's for a long time. But everytime I hear him sing this he always amazes me. And he's still got it. 100%
ABSOLUTELY MESMERIZING
JCSS is my all-time favorite show and I am VERY hard to please when it comes to who performs it. He is amazing.
what a talent! I've never cried so much to a song! Congratulations Drew Sarich! your voice is powerful!
Man, this rendition is so great! I love the changes in how it’s sung especially towards the end, probably in my top 5 Gethsemane renditions in just my first listen
Drew Sarich and Mikel Fernandez in Spain the bests Getsemani's singers...Amazing! ❤
OMG I have no words I felt that in my soul! ✌🏼

Drew's performance always reminds me that this is a rock opera.

As good as Gillan and Neeley, if not better ! What a singer ♥️🔥 so glad I've found this !

Exactly! I prefer Chris Murray's interpretation (but this one here is great, too, of course)
WOW!😱👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Electrifying.
WOW!!!
T6 and the other 3rd 😅are a little 😢😮but I understand if there is anything you need
G7809 is the only way to be the
Used to claim that no one could match Neeley in his prime with the high notes. This guy just shut me up.
Tremenda interpretación, sin palabras
Fukin hell. One of the best.
ERIZA LA PIEL!! INCREIBLE!!!
simply, Wow. It actually looks like he is indeed having a conversation with God.
02:56 the epic and the most fabulous moment of the song ❤
He makes some beautiful choices vocally and certainly makes it his own. I agree that this is a vocally impressive and far more angry than some especially in his eyes. I have heard better but like to see him do this in full performance
I was there...
Whether he's Judas or Jesus he's just amazing! 💖💖💖💖💖
OMG

Der Typ ist genial!!! Spielt der gerade irgendwo in Wien? Will ihn unbedingt live sehen!!!!
If Jesus was the lead singer of Blink-182

the bald jesus can do me no harm.
the bald jesus:
He just never moves me.
Structured.
Nice. Still like Balsamo better
Great voice, but honestly he could have NOT strayed so far from the melody line. He also goes to the dynamic parts too early... Singing on "11" the whole time is impressive, but far less emotional. Cheers
As stunning as this is he would have to bend that high note at least two to three whole times to match Ted's
