I appreciate the most Michael Lee's version in English, classic but strong, with a special "what you started, I didn't start it!" Nevertheless this version here is so fresh, so good.
He doesnt just go right into the "WWWWHHHHHYYYYY!!!!!?!??!?!?!?" he builds up the intenstiy a,d the song just explodes from there! he makes this TRUE rock!
I've never been able to enjoy anyone but Neeley's voice with this song. Not only did this guy shock me, I can feel a rabbit hole of binge watching coming. Really hope there's lots of content.
Ian Gillan, Drew Sarich, Ted Neeley, Steve Balsamo and Kamil Strihavka are my favourites for Gethsemane. Maybe this one is the best live performance of Gethsemane.
I feel like this is probably the best ACTED Gethsemane I've ever seen, which is impressive given the fact that one of his hands is taken by a microphone! I think Drew really takes us for a ride here, hitting all the points of weariness, to questioning, to frustration, to anger, almost to terror, and finally back to this heartbreaking sadness. His gestures and use of his eyes are amazing. His choice to go to the floor and delivery on "where and how" gets me too. That's why I like it, at least!
I think this is so out of the ordinary because most Jesus's are much more content and Drew decides to play out the emotions to highest degree which, I think, embodies the song very well.
Funny to see you here on another Drew Sarich JCS video, but completely agree lol. One of the best to do it imo. As for Judas, my top 5 rankings are Carl Anderson at #1, Drew Sarich at #2, Zubin Varla at #3, Tim Minchin at #4, and Brandon Victor Dixon at #5.
@@JustAnotherBuckyLover Happy to put people on Zubin’s version, just FYI he’s the Judas to Steve Balsamo’s Jesus. His “Heaven on Their Minds” is seriously amazing, I really like how desperate and scared he sounds. Sucks there was never a live recording of the play cause I’m sure his acting was off the charts
Wow, I totally adore him!! It's JCS "in concert" but he really breaks down on stage - even in concert. He doesn't play Jesus, he IS Jesus!! I love his interpretation of this very aggressive Jesus who struggles with his father and his mission! when I heared this song sung by Drew the first time I finally understood it - understood the fight Jesus was in during this situation / song, that he was afraid of death like any other human being and I really felt the desperation! Bravo, Drew!
Every time i'm high, it feels like this performance is too massive and i have to switch the clip before my head explodes or just flips.. But then, when i'm not hi, i could watch this over n over again because this is so good.
i like this because he doesn't follow the original, he puts his own syle on it which works better than most because it has emotion not just a guy following the band and singing about something than doesn't fit how they sound emotionally.
As much as I like and appreciate his great voice and technique, I really get quite annoyed by the fact that he keeps changing the melody, to the point where good part of the song doesn't have anything to do with the original score anymore. Just because you're able to do certain things, doesn't mean you have to do them. He should stick more to the score and keep the other stuff for his own, original projects. Taking liberties is a good thing and helps interpretation, but this is frankly way too much.
Been a fan of Drew Sarich for years and just now finding this performance of his. As always he does a great job. But this performance of Gethsemane is very unique. Technically in a lot of ways he makes mistakes, but they seem on purpose. He has a way he's rehearsed this song and has chosen to perform it and it deviates greatly from the norm, and I absolutely love that. What a great showcase of his vocal talent as well as his acting ability.
I have come back to this video periodically for 10 years. Drew taught me how far you someone can take the emotional impact of a song. This hits so hard, and i'm forever in awe.
Oh god, i am not the only one who is obsessed from "Gethsemane". 🙏 Drew Sarich sings this exceptional song with all hard emotions and his stunning voice so good💔😢. This is no song to sing for everybody!
I like those ones with unique takes on this song. thats why I value Ian Gillan, Ted Neeleey, and Steve Balsamo on the top of the list. And yes, this guy definitely deserves a spot at the top of my list.
I’ve been blessed to see Ted Neely many times in this role, and I was always moved. But oh my Drew gets me deep down in gut. I would love to see him perform. Wow wow. He is blessed with talent.
I like how Drew approaches the song very in a very unapologetic manner; he's singing to God, but he comes off as seeming as though he sees himself as God's equal, which is good, considering the character he's portraying. At the same time, the emotion, passion, and anger in the song reveals his humanity, making Drew's Jesus a complex one. Honestly, I prefer Drew's Judas to his Jesus, but I think his interpretation of Jesus is interesting--maybe a bit arrogant for me at points, but interesting.
Absolutely phenomenal! Goosebumps!. Never thought I would hear a version that matched Ted Neeley's (which in my opinion is the best). Wow, so glad I got to see this after watching video's for years
This is one of the best ones i have seen. It originally is a Rock Opera esque type musical with heavy funk influence, as is mentioned by many people. This interpretation shows the emotion of the actual scene in the film and is more of a rock interpretation. 5 stars thumbs up!
Saw the original in 1977, this is one of the greatest songs,of well, great songs! Sarich's is an amazing, moving performance. To be able to sing like he can must be a trip ..
Amazing interpretation. I may find the shrieking too much but the guy has a great great range and amazing artistry. I saw him as Jean Valjean! Love him to the end.
I just watched him as judas in another version, then I saw in the comments that he also played jesus so I decided to check it out. All I can say is I am in awe. This man is a genius.
Wild, right? I have watched more versions of Gethsemane then there are on this earth. And even though I'm quite the purist... and this version did take multiple listens to appreciate his choices... this is just the best one. Absolutely glorious.
What I love about drew when he plays Jesus is he treats him like every normal person, he has feelings and cares for the people he is guiding but also is creating his own life whilst showing with way of God towards his followers. But Drew gives Jesus the only time to scream and let out his fears, because ultimately, he doesn’t want to die and is questioning his father’s word but why should he die if he sees no point to his death. He has come to his crossroads, he’s so sad here Jesus but drew plays him so aggressive that conveys that he’s scarier, to me anyway, than Judas and is filled with much more rage he just wants to know why should he give his life when he wants to be alive like every one else.
Amazing range and emotion! What a wonderful live rendition, but my go-to will always be Ted Neeley's original from the film. (Personal inflection is great here, but it is not what the composer(s) put on paper.) Hitting the notes is easy for some. Hitting the notes as written, is another story and level of skill all together. Drew is a brilliant singer non the less. I'll share this one.
Fantastic. Right up there on Ted Neely's heels, and that's a hell of an accomplishment. I have heard numerous terrific singers tackle this song, but this is the only version I've heard that is even in the ballpark with the original,Ted. Superb.
Drew Sarich never fails to impress. I think I like him better as Judas, but still, WOW! This would be my favourite version of this song, if Colm Wilkinson hadn't recorded it too!
In my book, Drew's version of Gethsemane is the second best of all who perfromed the song. The first and the best is Ian Gillan, second is Drew Sarich and third is Ted Neeley.
A great representative interpretation of Jesus in the Garden. Of course, Jesus must have been a little confrontational with God, but recovered to move forward with his mission. A wonderful rendition with which we can readily identify.
That was incredible and great! Though I wouldn't want this Jesus to die for me. This is the Jesus peoples killed each other for. It's terrible, but it's truth. This is the Jesus we deserve.
@MrVictorPhineas Training. He has worked very hard like every other vocalist to train his vocal mechanism to do exactly what he wants it to without creating any tension. The tension in ones voice is what causes strain, pain and in the end ruins the voice. So in the end it is his intense physical willpower, hours of training and the fact that he was born with such a magnificent vocal mechanism. All I am saying is you can't buy a sound like that. In the end it is God given.
Fell down a UA-cam rabbit hole and watched about 30 versions of “Gethsemane” tonight. This one still hits me the hardest. Powerful emotion throughout.
I appreciate the most Michael Lee's version in English, classic but strong, with a special "what you started, I didn't start it!" Nevertheless this version here is so fresh, so good.
lol its a club.. welcome!
huh, I did EXACTLY that a few weeks ago.... and also concluded this is the most intense one.
Unfortunately, he's the best Jesus, because he's also the best Judas.
Drew’s new one just came out it’s amazing
He doesnt just go right into the "WWWWHHHHHYYYYY!!!!!?!??!?!?!?" he builds up the intenstiy a,d the song just explodes from there! he makes this TRUE rock!

난 아직도 이분이 부르는 겟세마네의 전율을 잊지 못함...
back again for this version. so fuuuuukin powerful
Cuando una reacción a esta versión de getsemani? Grande Drew Sarich
Ian Gillan, Drew Sarich, Ted Neeley, Steve Balsamo and Kamil Strihavka are my favourites for Gethsemane. Maybe this one is the best live performance of Gethsemane.

I love how Drew embraced the rock opera spirit of the show. He hits it so hard and the result is absolutely devastating.
I live for this song and this is the best version of, "Gethsemane" I've ever heard. His ad-lib choices are so original and his range is out of bounds.
I think this is so out of the ordinary because most Jesus's are much more content and Drew decides to play out the emotions to highest degree which, I think, embodies the song very well.
Drew blows away the roles of both Judas AND Jesus... Amazing.
@@Phasmania Haha well hi there again! I will have to check out Zubin Varla's performance. Thanks for the hint.

I can't believe he blew away Ted Neeley and every guy on UA-cam that I've seen sing this song!!
Not Ian Gilllan

i agree. i like drew, but the song wasnt written accidently in a way it was. a bit change is okay, but this is another song now.
3:59 was the most brilliant use of a microphone ever.

Holy crap!!! This was AMAZING!
Best performance of Gesthemane I've heard. Bold musical choices combined with a voice that can give that next level of energy to the high parts.
One of my favorite performances of Gethsemane.

I've never seen such a brilliant interpretation before. This man is a genius.
Raw vessel of passion, expression brilliantly executed 🙌💫💫
Just guided to experience some magic 🙏 just wow
I only want to say, best version I've ever seen.
'so why then am I scared...' I love the way he sings that part
I have to say this is my favorite performance of this song since Ted Neeley Did it for the movie. Great job!! I loved it!
Oh god, i am not the only one who is obsessed from "Gethsemane". 🙏
Drew Sarich sings this exceptional song with all hard emotions and his stunning voice so good💔😢. This is no song to sing for everybody!
his acting &voice are mind blowing... 2:25 why don't we see him more? literally giving me goooooosebumps.
2:42 such an amazing little riff he does there to fall onto that note
One of the best performaces of this song I've ever seen!

still my fave gethsemene after all these years.
I love you Drew!
This is the best performance of gethsamane I’ve ever seen!!!!!

Well, God Father is the only real bad guy in this musical. He holds every card.
Would gleefully use a Genie wish on being able to see this live, but damn glad someone recorded it!

Amazing....Oh my God!!! Who could sing like him?
THAT FUCKING FRY SCREAM RIGHT BEFORE THE BELT!! AMAZING
Every time I hear Drew Sarich I get goosebumps.
He's voice just pwnes me but I feel great with this ~.^
Damn. That was unexpected. Didn't think he would hit the high note but he nailed it. Great performance!
Wow what control! Incredible...
This version is just phenomenal, as it starts on that high note at 2:13 and doesn't come down until 2:49. Goosebumps for 36 seconds!

that is the best version i have ever heard of that song. seriously, Drew Sarich, you pwn that song!
This is the real deal. Few can compare.
Absolutely amazing.
Best version of this song... not to mention he is an AMAZING Judas as well. Look it up.
Der Mann mit der konstanten Überenergie, die so anziehend ist, weil trotzdem nichts schief geht. Echter Könner.
Goosebumps.. drew you're unbelievably talented
This is my joint favourite performance of Gethsemane as well as Steve Balsamo's version. Both amazing! Drew is seriously OUTSTANDING!!

the best version! excellent!
sorry who said this guy didn't have the vocal ability to sign this. he is fukkkin gigantic. i'm shivering.
Chills. Damn.
Wow. Just...wow!
Apart from his super excessive rubato at the beginning this was phenomenal. First time that I’ve felt this song is actually rock.
2:42 My favorite part... What a clearly high note !!
