  • Good day and thank you for watching today’s video covering a topic I get asked about all the time, and that is, “Where do I even begin to study for the Checkride?”. As mentioned in the video, I have selected what I think are the top 10 resources to be used to prepare for the Checkride.
To reiterate, #4 should give you all the questions to study, and the other numbers are the places to look for answers to these questions. Once you can answer all the questions in the ACS, you should be prepared for the checkride.
Here are links to each of the resources mentioned in the video. Links preceded by e- are digital.
    1. FAR/AIM
    ASA Paperback FAR/AIM

    FREE e-FAR

    FREE e-AIM

    2. Pilot’s Handbook of Aeronautical Knowledge (PHAK)
    ASA Paperback PHAK
    amzn.to/36LJ9dq
    FREE e-PHAK
    www.faa.gov/regulations_polic...
    3. Airplane Flying Handbook
    ASA Paperback Airplane Flying Handbook
    amzn.to/36J2oVe
    FREE e-AFH
    www.faa.gov/regulations_polic...
    4. Airman Certification Standards (ACS)
    ASA Paperback ACS
    amzn.to/3pUS4Rg
    FREE e-ACS
    www.faa.gov/training_testing/...
    5. ASA Prepware App
    apps.apple.com/us/app/prepwar...
If ASA Prepware is NOT available through Android, I would use the Sporty’s Learn to Fly App as a runner up. The reason I like ASA’s better is because the charts and illustrations stay open while you read the question. On the Sporty’s App, you need to view the question and pictures on separate pages making it a little more laborious to study..
    6. Your Aircraft’s Pilot’s Operating Handbook (POH)
Please ask your instructor for help locating this document. It is aircraft specific.
    7. AC 00-45 : Aviation Weather Services
    FREE
    www.faa.gov/documentlibrary/m...
    ASA Paperback Version
    amzn.to/2ObS0ij
    8. AC 00-6 : Aviation Weather
    FREE
    www.faa.gov/documentlibrary/m...
    ASA Paperback Version
    amzn.to/3aAlNst
    9. AC 90-66 : Nontowered Airport Flight Operations
    FREE
    www.faa.gov/documentLibrary/m...
There isn't much reason to purchase a paperback copy of this, as it is only 18 pages long.
    10. The Private Pilot Oral Exam Guide by Michael D Hayes (from ASA)

Just outstanding!… Short, to the point videos that really help with the information you need for check ride, and just becoming a safer pilot. Just passed my PPL after five months of some pretty intense training, and I’m a midlife guy at that. Thank you so much for putting these together.

When I started out I was not sure what to use for what you have listed in number 5. I did get sportys, but my trainer is a DA20. But still helpful. I also got Gleims knowledge test prep and got 100%. There were a few points I learned off each one that helped me get that score.

Such a solid list of texts! Maybe a link to this video should be placed on the first video in the series. This is easily the first thing I would've wanted to know once I decided I was going to be a pilot. I could have been studying these books while I was working and saving money to learn to fly with.

Best online ground school I’ve learned from. Made a 90 on my knowledge test using it.
      jeff.groundschool.com/
Jeff is my instructor, get a master instructor, cost more but much worth it. I’ve yet to get my PPL, have the flight stuff down, was leaking in the oral part of the practical which is heavily driven by the ACS. Feel very comfortable landing a 172p with 18 knot gusting cross winds. A lot of my training has been on landings. On the very gusty days grab the most senior CFI go work on cross wind landings for an hour.

Great list, just passed my ppl 7 hr practical, one very critical book I found that condensed everything you need to know into one 87 page book was Private Pilot Checkride Preparation and Study Guide by Virgil Royer. It’s freaking awesome! One note, in his summary of maneuvers he has the acceptable speed during slow flight as +/-10 kts, the ACS as of May 2020 shows +10/-0 kts, big diff. The earlier is a difference of 20 kts and the latter is only 10 kts. I can see how he missed it, all of the other maneuvers are +/-10 kts.

Hi Excellent channel, thanks!! Question: Do I need to bring all the books? What I mean is can I bring only a iPad to reference the Chart Supplement and FARs (like www.ecfr.gov)? Or, should I also bring the actual books? I'll bring a physical chart, even though I'll have my XC flight plan on my iPad.

    • @theacslibrary4404
      @theacslibrary4404  3 роки тому

You can bring electronic versions. Make sure your iPad is at 100% battery! The only things I would absolutely have a physical copy of are the Sectional, TAC Chart if necessary, and have an airport diagram printed out on your kneeboard so you can easily flip your scratchpad up to look at it. My examiner "failed" my iPad on the ground after our last landing, and luckily I had a paper chart to allow taxi back to parking.
I've messaged DPE's I haven't met yet prior to checkrides to ask if I or my student may use electronic products.

You can embed links in notes so 5 years later when you’re looking over your notes you can go to the like and have the most up to date info. What’s the use of learning all this if we can’t easily find it a few years from now when we’ve forgotten most of it.
