  • Join us again for our DPE series with Pete Reddan, Designated Pilot Examiner (DPE), and owner of Vapor Global Aviation. In this video, Pete gives some example Scenario Questions as part of a Private Pilot License checkride to give you an idea of what to expect and how to prepare for success on your own checkride.
    These scenario questions are designed to prove that students haven’t just memorized their answers, but are able to understand each concept and apply it to a specific real-life situation. There are two types of Scenario questions included in a checkride, one for Pre-Flight Scenarios where a previously planned flight changes at the last minute, and one for En-Route Scenarios where the circumstance of a flight change en-route and students are expected to react appropriately for each.
    Please comment below on scenarios your DPE asked you on your checkride, or any questions for AeroGuard, Pete, or any of our other DPEs.

    4am!?
    ain't nobody i know gonna convince me to take them to breakfast at 4am
    no one.

    If someone calls me at 8pm, less than 12 hours prior to our schedules departure time and asks to bump it up 5 hour!!! To 0400?!?
    Unless when they called I was already sleeping....
    in the hanger...
    10 feet from the airplane...
    that would be a “No, no and hell NO.”
    The most important piece of equipment on the airplane is the gray stuff in between the pilots ears.
    That piece of equipment is non-functional at 0300! Unless the pilots sleep schedule was planned prepared for a 0200-0300 wake up, that flight should be a no-go.

      Exactly what i was thinking too. I’d rather not wake up that early to fly to breakfast, especially if it breaks my personal sleep mins.

      Relax it’s just an assuming scenario

    • @kimberlywentworth9160
      @kimberlywentworth9160 Рік тому

      Yep agree. Not flying when half asleep. Personal minimum is to get at least 8 to 9 hours of sleep and I do not fly in the middle of the night.

    • @dojoswitzer
      @dojoswitzer Рік тому

      Right, even if I could manage to get the number of hours sleep I typically get, shifting my sleep schedule forward 3-4 hours on a moment’s notice = I.M.N.O.T.S.A.F.E.
      Currency & operable equipment don’t need to be checked. The decision is already made.

      @@simon0062 Yes, just like an assuming crash the airplane scenario.

      Thanks for your comment!
      The two are very closely related and exact diagnosis is less important than the understanding of the theoretical knowledge and the actions taken as the pilot in command - in this case increasing the levels of oxygen to alleviate any of the 4 types of hypoxia, and completing a safe landing to assess further on the ground.

      But this video isn't trying to teach how to prepare for the FOI written test, this is about how to become prepared for any checkride.

      Same here. It all boils down to personals minimums I guess, but what if she had an engine failure en route while it's dark? Realistically it's a bad idea while VFR

    The intro question shouldn't require quick answers. In real life, you'll have plenty of time to research before your flight. The others quick answers to demonstrate safe piloting. The exam should emulate real life.
