My single greatest checkride tip has to do with mental preparation. Before I meet the DPE i recite to myself "There is no place I want to be right now than right here, sharing what I have learned and showing the DPE what I am capable of. I've worked to hard not to focus right now. And dang I love flying and I get to share that with a stranger today." To Jason's point about leaving the mistake in the past: During my PPCR I made an errant decision during emergency procedures. The DPE told me I failed that portion and asked if I would like to continue. I said yes and finished the rest of my CR successfully. On my last short field takeoff I stayed in the pattern and he told me to extend my downwind and he would call my base. We flew well beyond the glide of the Piper Tomahawk's ability to make it safely back to the runway. He had me look back toward the runway and as I did he pulled power and I had another opportunity to exercise my emergency procedures. He was impressed I did not fall into the trap of panicking and trying to turn toward the runway and was able to find a safe place to land. So I passed my checkride after having been told I had failed a portion of it already.

I just passed my private check ride last week. I was nothing but nerves with only a 24 hour notice before my ride. Stayed up until 1:30AM planning my XC after getting my instructions at about 9:00PM got to sleep about 2:00AM
Long story short, the check ride was almost disappointingly easy. I felt almost over prepared. I passed. A lot of it is thanks to you. You’ve made me a smarter, safer pilot. Thank you.

I used your private pilot checkride audio book. Listened to it every day for 2 weeks leading up to the checkride along with all my other studying. It definitely made a difference. I breezed through my oral portion. I did very well with the flying portion too.

Go into the check ride knowing you are not going to know all the answers. It's ok if you don't know or forget at altitude your indicated stall speed won't change but your true airspeed will. :-) Try to relax and answer the question directly. Don't try to sluff your way through it, the DPE will see right through that. Like Jason said, answer the question and zip it. You won't sleep the night before, or you won't sleep well. Eat a good breakfast, food for the brain. Arrive early. Oh and don't forget, BREATH! My biggest thing was the unknown, what questions are going to be asked, how does this process work. I looked at it as, "This is the 1st check ride of many" 1 of 2 outcomes, either I pass and I learn something, or I don't pass and I learn something. Of course we don't want to fail, but if that does happen, it's simply a bump in the road and use it as a stepping stone to learn from.

I took my PPL checkride in 2006 at Wiley Post airport KPWA in Oklahoma City, OK. I busted the OKC class C airspace during the check ride. I still passed but got a very stern lecture from the examiner after we landed. It took all of the joy out of it because I was so upset with myself for the error. I guess the good part is that I've not busted another airspace since, but it still sucks the big day didn't go like I had hoped and dreamed.

Jason, I wish your videos had been around when I was about to go into my first checkride. Your reassuring positive attitude is exactly what a student pilot needs going into the big day.

My flight test will be 25th of this month, I already finished mock gnd, mock flight but I’m sure that this video is the best video that I’ve ever seen about the advices for ppl checkrides… holy moly you are just not only saying about some uncommon tips but also you incredibly got the every single points that I was missing.. Don’t bring your previous mistake to present! Best sentence ever for me, appreciate it. I like you way to explain and way to think and encourage, thank you so much!

Triple check your endorsements. In my ppl checkride, I had to call my CFI who was at his baby's first pediatrician appointment to get an updated solo endorsement from him (back of a diaper box, signed and texted the picture) so I could continue. Also remember you are evaluated on real life scenario and problem solving. On my IFR checkride I forgot the button to press on the 530W to stay in a hold. But I was able to recreate the hold by activating the next leg on the approach and reading the DME distance to the fix. My examiner said he usually fail people for this but I was able to find a *creative* solution and passed me.

Jason thanks for your insight! I also downloaded the audiobook and listened religiously for a couple to three weeks and passed my checkride on Labor Day 22! The book helped me to relax and recall the information requested by DPE! Not many surprises! Thanks!

do you offer any training material targeted towards the Sport Pilot certificate? Everything. All of the training sites, the material is targeted towards the Private Pilot. I feel there are enough differences to warrant a different course considering the Sport Pilot is still using a PTS rather than the new ACS for Private Pilot.
