    The Ford Model A (also colloquially called the A-Model Ford or the A, and A-bone among hot rodders and customizers)[4] was the Ford Motor Company's second market success, replacing the venerable Model T which had been produced for 18 years. It was first produced on October 20, 1927, but not introduced until December 2.[5] This new Model A (a previous model had used the name in 1903-04) was designated a 1928 model and was available in four standard colors. The vehicle was also sold in Europe, but was replaced by locally built cars such as the Ford Model Y.
    By February 4, 1929, one million Model As had been sold, and by July 24, two million.[6] The range of body styles ran from the Tudor at US$500 (in grey, green, or black) ($10,534 in 2021 dollars [7])[6] to the town car with a dual cowl at US$1,200 ($20,862 in 2021 dollars [7]).[8] In March 1930, Model A sales hit three million, and there were nine body styles available.[6]
    Model A production ended in March 1932, after 4,858,644 had been made in all body styles.[9] Its successor was the Model B, which featured an updated inline four-cylinder engine, as well as the Model 18, which introduced Ford's new flathead (sidevalve) V8 engine.
    The Model A was well represented in media of the era, since it was one of the most common cars. Model kits remain available from hobby shops as stock cars or hot rods.
    Several Model As have obtained particular fame. The Mean Green Machine, a green and black 1931 Tudor sedan, has been a staple of University of North Texas football games and special events since 1974, maintained by the spirit organization Talons since the 1980s. The Ramblin' Wreck, a 1930 sport coupe, is the official mascot of the student body at the Georgia Institute of Technology and appears at sporting events and student body functions. Ala Kart, a customized 1929 roadster pickup built by George Barris, won two straight "America's Most Beautiful Roadster" awards at the Oakland Roadster Show before making numerous film and television appearances. Between October 1992 and December 1994, Hector Quevedo, along with his son Hugo, drove a 1928 Model A 22,000 mi (35,406 km) from his home in Punta Arenas, Chile to Ford headquarters in Dearborn, Michigan. The car required minimal service, including a flat tire and transmission work in Nicaragua, and is now housed in the Henry Ford Museum.[23] A 1930 Model A, used by the gangster John Dillinger to escape federal agents in 1934, was sold at auction in 2010 for $165,000.[24]
    Charlie Ryan's song "Hot Rod Lincoln" featured a modified Model A. The song has been covered several times since its original release.

    I had this kit, as well as Revell's Model A Woodie kit. I built them simultane- ously. When I had finished a model, I would take it to the common area of my apartment complex to show my neighbours. I already had built two of AMT's Ford Model T, one as a car, the other as a depot hack--I believe this last was the forerunner of the pickup truck--which I also included. The elders in the place would remember their grandparents driving them.

    Awesome as per usual Chris!
    I was thinking while watching this video, have you ever considered building a model that you REALLY spend some time with to see how awesome (whatever you build) it would come out? I always hear you say “you could do this or that to make it look GREAT, but I don’t really care cause I gotta get this content out.” This woody would have been a GREAT one to see what you REALLY could do!
    I’d LOVE to see what YOU could do if ya spend the time to do it. Don’t get me wrong, I love the “fast and furious” (lol) way you build cause that just makes for more/new content.
    But maybe a 2 or 3 parter to show what builders CAN do if you really take your time with a build.
    As always, thank you for the great content Chris… it always makes my day when I get the notification that you’ve dropped another build!

      I like building quick, I just like getting more and more kits done. Every new kit is a new adventure for me, keeps me going.
      I'll get into the weeds with a kit some day, but for now the two day build process is enjoyable and I've always loved just making them from the box as is.

      Sometimes spending to much time on one kit could put you in a slump . I get really frustrated if I spend more than a few weeks on a kit. I almost feel like saying the hell with this and not build for awhile . I'm like Chris. I want to build quick , enjoy it and move on to the next cool kit sitting on my shelf.

    "The sissy bars" heheh I haven't heard that term in so long I forgot all about it.... and I used to be heavily involved with bicycles when I was a kid too. We'd raid the dumps for bike parts and build bikes out of what was still good. Then race them, jump them and travel to "far away" towns in gangs to buy candy, soda, and popcicles. All our parents said was to be back by dinner or else.... lol Thanks for the memories man. And I'm talking about the 70's, not the 50's. Times have sure changed.
    I like the choices you made when deciding how you wanted to build this kit. I love it when there are a lot of options. I hope Round2 keeps these types of kits coming. One of the things you've taught me is when to spray paint and when to hand paint among many other things... dry brushing, washes, what glues to use when, windows and a whole lot of other very helpful techniques. Love your videos. The model looks spectacular. And of course I love the bike.

    You could fairly easily rub those side panels down on some coarse paper to thin them a bit and then glue real wood veneer on the outside. I may have to look into that.

      I was planning something like that for mine, I was going to rebuild the entire body out of balsa. I ended up getting lazy and just doing the pickup but I'd still like to go back and try it someday.

    It was very clever of AMT to mold the inner “wooden” panels separate from the rest of the body, which makes painting a lot easier. I have the Revell kit, and it’s going to be tedious. Nice build, Chris.

      The thing that I’d found irritating about the Revell version “back in the day” was that the woody panels were warped, and elementary-school-me was unable to reshape them beyond gluing the whole thing into a solid mass.

    I would love to see you build the 1940 ford coupe kit by AMT, seems like you’ve done very every other year and body style for the generation 😂 but as a “precautious” modeler, i like seeing how they turn out, and I much prefer your quality of videos, as any kit you’ve built and I’ve bought myself…..worked exactly how you said it would from blemishes to perfections. But please do a 1940 ford coupe!!

    Another *outstanding* review & build , *Chris* ! Now I'm going to have to get one or three of these !
    In early 1988 , *Tim* *Boyd* did a buildup of this kit for Scale Auto Enthusiast . At that time , I was turned off by those crummy tyres which AMT et al. was including ( those "snow tyre" Rallye GT junks ) , so I relented ; I didn't have any spare tyres at that time.
    But , I digress...
    Keep 'em coming !

    Enjoyed the video a lot, I used to make models when I was a kid, a lot of the Tom Daniels kits, things have changed a little especially painting techniques, one suggestion could you do narration and describe the paints used and your techniques for getting certain looks, for those of us that have been out of modeling for 45+ years, it would help guide me back into the hobby, especially the painting (like black washes and all these modern paints and paint techniques like using markers and pens and where to get them and how to use them. Thanks Paul

    The items you call bed rolls , could they be curtains for the old T?

    • @hpiguy
      @hpiguy  2 роки тому

      It's a bed roll/towel, left over from a figure that used to be included.

    As usual, you did an awesome job building that kit. Those era of models are not really my cup of tea, but you really make me consider buying one. But, I’m saving my money for an Hpiguys t-shirt. Lol.

    Awesome video. I had a question about an older review. It's on the kitech blue thunder kit about 6 yrs ago. I received the original monogram kit from a friend. My question is what color blue did you use on the main body? Awesome videos and keep em up.

    • @hpiguy
      @hpiguy  2 роки тому

      I never built it, but any deep flat blue should work.

    Is this the Beverly Hillbillies truck? I almost think it is. I am looking up at my actual tv kit. I've always loved AMT. My whole life they have been there. Those un-identifiable decals I believe are center hub decals for the mags?

    • @ricklundin1154
      @ricklundin1154 2 роки тому

      No, it is a repop of a kit that was originally done by MPC in the 60's. I think it was one of the first that had a hot rodded Ford flathead v-8 (with the aftermarket aluminum heads). Don't hesitate to buy this, it's a very good kit.

    • @blizzy6392
      @blizzy6392 2 роки тому

      No. The Beverly Hills truck kit was its own kit design, plus it was a 1921 Oldsmobile not a Ford.
      This kit was born as a 1928 Ford Model 'A' Tudor sedan, designed by MPC for AMT in 1964. In 1965, MPC converted the sedan kit to a '28 pickup and '29 Woody wagon kits. In 1966, the two options were combined into one kit ("The Wild Ones") along with the bicycle and a 'Hot Curl' surfer figurine with surfboard.
      Hot Curl soon disappeared and that's what's left of this old kit for us today.
