The tenth generation of the Ford F-Series is a line of pickup trucks produced by Ford from the 1997 to 2004 model years. The first ground-up redesign of the F-Series since 1980, the tenth generation saw the introduction of an all-new chassis and a completely new body. In a significant model change, the tenth generation was developed only for the F-150 (and later a light-duty F-250), with the ninth-generation F-250 and F-350 replaced by the all-new Ford Super Duty variant of the F-Series for 1999.
Alongside its all-new body and chassis, the tenth-generation F-150 saw further changes to the F-Series line, including the retirement of the Twin I-Beam front suspension (the first Ford light truck to do so), an entirely new engine lineup, and the addition of a rear door (later two) to SuperCab trucks. The F-150 again served as the basis for Ford full-size SUVs, as the long-running Ford Bronco was replaced by the five-door Ford Expedition for 1997, with Lincoln-Mercury introducing the Lincoln Navigator for 1998. For 2002, Lincoln-Mercury marketed its own version of the F-Series, introducing the Lincoln Blackwood as the first Lincoln pickup truck.
Through its production, the model line was assembled by multiple Ford facilities in the United States, Canada, and Mexico; after its replacement in 2004, this generation was rebranded as the Ford Lobo in Mexico from 2004 to 2010 (when it was replaced by the twelfth-generation F-150).
A new lineup of improved efficiency engines were offered beginning for 1997. A 4.2 L OHV V6, based on Ford's 3.8 L Essex V6, replaced the 4.9 L OHV I6, while 4.6 and 5.4 liter SOHC V8s replaced the 5.0 and 5.8 liter OHV V8s. The 4.6 and 5.4 liter V8s were marketed under the name Triton and mark the first use of Ford's Modular Single Overhead Cam (SOHC) engines in the F-series pickups. Ford's own 8.8 IFS replaced the Dana 44 front end, while the Ford 8.8 rear remained. The Ford Sterling 9.75 axle was also optioned in heavy-duty versions. In 2000, the Sterling 10.25 axle became an option.
Standard (1998), Work Series (1999-2000), became a more basic package for the XL in 2001 - Included: Vinyl upholstery, bench seat, manual mirrors, steel wheels, 4-pin trailer wiring, manual windows, an AM/FM stereo with a clock, and a manual transmission.
XL - Included: Chrome bumpers, manual mirrors, styled-steel wheels, polyknit (later, cloth) upholstery, bench seat, manual windows, a manual or automatic transmission, and an AM/FM stereo with a clock (and later, a cassette player).
XLT - Added: aluminum wheels, cloth upholstery, tinted rear windows, cargo box light, tachometer, power windows and locks with automatic driver's side window, an AM/FM stereo with a cassette player (later, a single-CD player) and clock, air conditioning, and later, a leather wrapped steering wheel, an overhead console with compass and garage openers, speed-dependent wipers, and power mirrors.
Lariat - Added: cast aluminum wheels, carpeted floor mats, power mirrors with turn signals, power driver's seat, automatic headlamps, leather trimmed seats, anti-lock brake system, and later, an automatic transmission, an AM/FM stereo with single-CD and cassette players and clock, and a keypad entry.
King Ranch added leather upholstery, heated seats, captain chairs and a 6-disc CD changer.
Love the pepper red color. Truck looks nice. 👍
Chris that looks fantastic! Love that color. It looks very much like the real thing on that turntable. Thanks for the review.
Nicely built Chris love the color amazing detailing
Nice tribute to your dad 👍
Looks great Chris. Thanks for a couple of ideas.
Very nice representation of the 1997-2003 F150 Chris! That detail is awesome! Thanks for sharing!
A "memory build" - as perfect as you can remember. My favorite builds. Looks very nice. So your dad drove a truck to his truck driving job. Pretty cool. Thanks for sharing.
Nice build!
Cool ride always awesome always 😎
Beautiful build and nice tribute to your dad! Excellence presentation and review Chris!!
Does the 5.4L Triton V8 come with the spark plugs already snapped off in the head? 😂
Yeah right??! 😂
Gotta love that one!
😂😂😂😂
This is the earlier 2V 5.4 where the plugs were shot out of the heads. The later 3V 5.4 has the plugs that all end up breaking. Thankfully this truck will be okay on its next tune up.
@@ScaleModelCarBuilder Ohh I heard about that!
My grandpa owns a 98 f150 like this kit, might have to pick it up and build it for him
Nice job Chris! This really came out nice. Thanks for the review.
I always love that detail of this 1/25 scale Ford F150 build awesome
Lookin good
Great-looking build Chris love that color red you have on the truck 👍👍
Finished product looks AWESOME, CHRIS!
I recall having a diecast metal kit of this same truck in the same color back in 1997, but without the light bar in the bed. Nice to see you remembering your Dad in this way.
I built a version of this about 17 years ago and did it in blue and silver.
wow that F150 looks GREAT! Wasn't interested in it before but after your video I might have to pick it up!
damn that is beautiful!!!
That came out beautifully, paint looks great.
Great build Chris. The red just pops.
~that is a very nice build~you inspire me alot~your youtube channel is seen by many here when I go to Hobby Lobby and Ollies to buy models~keep it going~thanks~
Cool, thanks!
@@hpiguy you are welcome~
Great video Chris keep em coming I'll keep watching
Really nice job on the’97 Ford F-150. I really liked the red colour you used on the body of the truck!
Very nice looking build. Great review of the kit. Nice tips on the assembly. I agree with you those wheel mounts are a poor design. Thanks for sharing.
Great build as always. #r.i.pCP101
My family has this same truck but a 98 in black with factory graffics . We have never seen another truck like ours, it’s a real keeper.
Very nice build, love how the kit is detailed in the engine and frame.Very good color.🤩
Fantastic work looks brilliant
Great looking build. Thanks for sharing.
Really enjoy your videos Love Model's 💟👍
Great job on the build
Looks great
Very nice build, like the color combo on the interior and exterior. Keep up the great videos.
Looks awesome....I do believe the solid line over the body panels on the instructions fo rthe windows , means that the part should be outside or it would be a dotted line over the panels. those colors scream 80's
Real cool kit, Chris, that engine really neat together, lots of nice detail, that roll/light bar, looks awesome, the only thing I would do, is, put fire extinguisher on driver side bar, this kit would be great one to paint bedsides different colors, like a third of them, you see on the street!
It‘s an very exotic vehicle, here in germany. Most people prefer soapboxes to drive here.😂
Anyway, nice build and respect to bulid an tributetruck to your dad.
So sweet build. Chris, will you let me know how you make the body paint to look so glossy? I mean, it looks spectacular.
I don't build models. I suffer from anxiety which causes my hands to shake. But, I do enjoy watching others do it. So, I don't know a lot of the things that most of you do. If he wanted to make the bed look like it had a spray-on bed-liner, would you just use flat black paint? Or is there a way to add texture to it to make it look more realistic?
You can just stipple thicker paints like craft paints to make it look like a bedliner. There are numerous ways to accomplish a textured finish.
@@hpiguy Oh cool. I was just asking the community, I wasn't expecting a reply from the man himself. Thanks for taking the time to answer my question. 😊
You can use really fine sand from the railroad layout section of the hobby store mixed into the paint if you want the grainy Line X style bed liner.
On my 1:1 f150 it has the (factory) plastic bed liner. That's what that piece the fenders hang from looks like.
If you want to replicate you dad's truck, AMT made an extended cab fleetside 4X4 in their Snap Fast Plus series. I believe the kit in this video was originally a Lindberg kit. AMT also did a regular cab shortbox 2wd kit. Revell did a regular cab longbed, an extended cab stepside, and the Lightning (regular cab stepside).
Yeah, I have the Lindberg of this same kit, it's a very good kit, the Revell super cab flareside and the Revell long box in my stash. I also own a 2001 super cab flareside F150.
I still have the lindberg 1997 F150 4x4 model kit that came out way before this one from amt came out.
Mine was just destroyed before Christmas by a delivery vehicle, demolished right in my own driveway... 4.6 V8 2-valve, 200K miles and more reliable than a horse... Watching the wrecker take it was a kick in the stomach. Two-tone blue and gold.
My grandfather had a 97 F150 4X4 ext cab 4.6l. His was a rarer version because he had an 1 year only heavy duty option. It had an F250 radiator, F250 brake booster, and a side exit exhaust in front of the rear tire. It was designed to be a stop gap between the 92-96 F250 body style, which was still the old body style in 97 because the new body style F250 wasn’t ready until 98. I’ve never seen anther with the same option package.
Friend of mine had one of those it was a 1998 F250, but it was 7 lug and this body style, I think it eventually turned into the F150 7700 package
😂 on the tribal thing. My sentiments exactly
This is basically known as the heritage edition! Though the two door regular cab had been all but fazed out by the late nineties you could still buy one. Most built were extended cab and four door!
Love this. Not really fan of that gen of Ford pick up, but in this configuration it's really neat.
I'm not a fan of Ford cars either (Found On Road Dead). But, I did get a good deal on a 95 ranger back in Y2K or so and I drove that truck every day for 18 years and it was still going strong when I sold it. I'll never brag about their cars. But, their trucks kick ass.
I want to try and combine this one with the revell kit to make a 1/25 scale Attack beast from team knight Rider
This kit is made using the same old Lindberg injection mold.
This was originally a Lindberg kit, folded into the AMT line. It's a very accurate kit.
Never liked this body style but I'll probably still get this as I love Ford. 😊
where can i buy these cars? I think they are so cool and also rich in detail.
Very nice build. I love the red and black color combo. Did you apply a clear coat to the body and box and if so what did you use this time?
The gray interior looks great; exactly like the '97 Ford Expedition I had, but Ford didn't identify it as German Gray. lol😂 Thanks for sharing!
Usually not a fan of trucks... But... you made this look so great that i actually want this kit now..!! Hahaha
It would have been nice if they also put like a mechanic figure in with the kit. And tools in a pack of spark plugs and a helicoil get it. Because you know those motors blew out so many spark plugs.. I done a hundred repairs on those spark plugs. Anyways great build love watching your channel..
I was lucky, mine would just vibrate loose and cause a misfire. Thankfully the boots were tight enough to keep me from loosing them completely. Kept a spark plug socket and wrench in the truck for just that occasion. Never took any threads out. It had 220,000 on it when I traded it in. My grandfather had bought it new. Special ordered it. He kept it mint. Then my father got it and used it as work truck. In 5 years it went from 70,000 miles on it to 210,000 miles on it by the time I bought off him (he travelled a lot for work). By then it was trashed and rotted.
Next one you make you should make it completely rusted out
They rusted out in some strange places. Mine rust out at the top of the drivers footwell. Couldn’t find out why feet were always cold. Pulled the fender well cover off and seen a rust hole in the upper foot well. Just a small rust hole. The metal around it was perfect. The front ends rotted out quick on these. So did the area around the rear wheels.
What glue do you use for the models
May i ask, what type of model glue did you use for this?
Ever done Gunpla on this channel?
Thank you for metric 2mm.
in all my years of building models I don't recall ever seeing an engine assemble in that many pieces....looked really "fiddly".
only thing that is missing is the lift kit
This almost seems to be a repop of the Lindberg 4x4 97 F150 step side model kit that came out eleven years ago.
It's the same kit.
@@hpiguy Well thats pretty nice hopefully improvment on the fitment on some of the parts since last time eleven years ago.
These were the best selling generation of the F-series ever. It also had the worst crash test ratings of any modern F-series. Watch the crash tests on these. Will make you think twice about buying one. Looks like the old Chinese car crash tests.
One of the worst trucks ever built at least in model land there all equal for the most part
They do make the ext cab f150 with a step side, it’s revell 97 f150 xlt
