Rusty 68 F100 Revival - Back on the Road Again!!!! (20 Years Forgotten in the Woods) PART 5

- On this episode, I am able to get the truck in good enough shape to hit the road for a quick spin around the block. Our makeshift gastank, carb rebuild, rebuilt steering column, replacement ragjoint all leading up to a nice down and dirty brake flush. Master cylinder was found to be bad and replace all the wheel cylinders but surprisingly all the lines were good. So once we had brakes, we were able to put it back on the road for the first time in over 20 years. Still in rough shape and alot of work ahead to get it back to its former glory, but slowly getting there. Up next will be a transmission flush and diff fluid change and a much longer road trip.

It’s been 4 years since I started watching this
I'm lucky enough to say I have a 68 garage kept , its awesome
I did not see any smoke. That is just so cool.
Nicely done, I love old ford trucks. I'm sure your dad will be happy to drive the old girl again. Great gift
Just love these older vehicles! A lot less complicated than todays vehicles and so much easier to work on!
Very Great to be Expert With Cars.
It’s like new! Love these old FORDS.
I used to have a 69 Ford Explorer. This truck is very similar. Brings back tons of memories. Hope you end up rust proofing it. Awesome job. Keep making more videos.
It's going to get fully restored and then never driven again on a salty road
Keep these coming guy's, some of us are learning
Just got moved to a new place so hopefully can get back to work on the truck and start tearing it down for body work
Oh yeah the perfect oldie truck to have. I like the 68 ford front ends and the long bed better. My 67 short bed flare side has the same 300 ci 6 Cylinder engine. I am a tiny jealous. I do want a highboy 4x4 though the most. Thanks for sharing. Thumbs up
I am not just a Chevy man I'm an American truck man. Thank you for bringing this piece of American history back to life
True blue oval!!!
You've got a truck! A REAL truck! Good job on the video, just fun watchin'
she's a diamond in the ruff, dad and I restore classics for ppl who want daily drivers he won't build a "trailer queen" and to use his words "there's not a turd you can't polish and make into a beauty if you have the time and money" check the net..there's a Co./place in So. Calif. that has lots of 67-69 parts-- talked with a young man a couple yrs ago who was doing a 68 short bed in So. Calif. who was getting parts through them....I grew up and learned to drive on a 68 F250 camper special..they make junk today compared to what they used to make... good luck on your project
One of the proudest trucks I've ever seen and deserves to be. The best never rests!
Would love to see an update on this one Ethan. Was great to see Luke post a refresher video on this revival, it's still one of my favs
One of my favorite builds on UA-cam. Thanks for sharing this with us.
I enjoyed the hell outa that series. Thanks!
Thank you. I plan to keep working on this truck until it is fully restored to its former glory
C2H6 I think it's super awesome what you're doing great job man!
How are you doing with the restoration?
Can't wait to see it fully cleaned up and running perfectly. You have done a great job so far keep up the good work!!
You got into the Zone! I would love a project like this!
Amazing ! Obviously a labor of love. Thanks for Sharing !
Personally people like you guys are awesome to take old trucks/cars and make them run deep respect Ford power
I have a 1995 c1500 long box v8 auto. I am the 2nd. owner of it. It has been in western Wisconsin it's Whole life a former forestry truck for the county. This is my 2nd.summer of owner ship. Not a spot of rust any where! And I am just as proud as you are of your 1968 FOMOCO!! 5.14 pm 8/30/18 cst USA
Who knew I would enjoy this so much? This is awesome
absolutely beautiful job lads
Thanks
Awesome! I had an old truck like this a long time ago...paid like $200 for it. Now restored they sell for a LOT of money. I traded mine for a hopped up chevy monza that my dad and I were looking to run at the local drag strip on weekends....I miss that truck, it had a lot of character.
I got a 79 with a 351 in her. Not quite as bad a shape but God I LOVE her.No matter what they look like I love those early Ford. ....
i love those trucks. i had a 1970 that i drove until it started literally falling apart due to rust. spent it's whole life in mn. someday i want to find a solid one that's worth restoring.
would love to see it look like it rolled off the line again. Always loved those old trucks.
One day it will be showroom quality again. Might take me a while yet.
ill be waiting and watching, got a new sub from me.
I would rather see it take a while and you do it all yourself than send it to a shop and get it done quicker. The love you have for this restoration shows and means more than all the time in the world. You're doing it the right way. Keep doin' what your doin' . The restoration couldn't be any better!
that's a great old truck your working one and love to see it after its restored. I hope your going to bring it beck to original factory aspects? My dad had a striped 1970 F 100 8 foot bed with the 300 6. cylinder 3 on the tree that I leaned how to drive on. such a great truck & hard to find because I've been looking for one. But you have fun with her and happy to see that it got rescued . she has a lot more to give. some day I will find one. best of luck to you.
I have a 64 f100 shortbed. I replaced complete brakes, steering h-joint, flushed all fluid systems, new battery. We've been using it everyday. Total cost 395.00 includes truck.
excited to see more progress!
For your information , as an and old retired brake mechanic, icanand tell you that the exhaust acceptedmethod for bleeding brakes is to start theexhaust farthest away from the Master cylinder--period! Forget front/rear! In the case of the F100, the farthest away would be the right rear,so you'd do it first, then the left rear (because it's next closest to the M/cyl), then the right front, and then finally the left front (last because it's closest)! You're actually using the master to chase the air from the rear of the vehicle to the front and bubble out finally through the left front and the m/cyl reservoir itself. What you did is a variation of the Correct Procedure , but your way CAN actually leave an air pocket in the lines, especially near a "tee" fitting or a pressure equalizer valve body( which this old F100 might not have, but it certainly has at least one tee-probably on the rear axle housing). Just sayin. 1
The previous comment was from charlie ball, not cathleen thero ball,my wife! I don't think shes ever worked as a brake mechanic!!! Lolql!!
EARTH-TRUCK! My favorite kind. Mine's a 91 Ranger XLT, 338,336 miles getn 29 around town, and blew head gasket! No oil in water, no water in oil! Between cylinders apparently. Had it 19 years! Had 111K miles on it when I bought it. It was running, then it just piled and stopped running. Just about got enough saved to get it rebuilt, (and maybe with a few extra hosses! Whoo Hoo! Good job on vdo! Nice find on truck. Don't know what you paid for it, but it looks pretty intact for sitting up! Good work, man! Thanks.
good to see you working on it again !
Thanks. There will be more to come.
keep up the good work man it's amazing how far the beast has came from being left to rot in the woods too nearly being road worthy. looking forward to the next video :)
Thanks
Nice videos!! this f100 is getting real, and this is amazing, even more for a rescue that seemed almost to be impossible.
thanks
You check all fluid transfers for stoppages BEFORE you pour in fluids. Often times it's best to spend a little more to get a lot back. It's a truck. A running and driving truck. The value is there.
great to see it rolling again
Wow guys! A Ford inline 6 without lifter tap, are you sure it's running right? LOL there some of the best motors ever made but I swear they came new with the lifters tapping. Its great seeing the old girl running and driving thank you for bring a classic back to life. Really enjoyed watching the vids!
Ronnie Lester roller rockers and hydro roller tapets with fix that
Great videos on this beauty Ford! Lol.
I give you a lot of credit brotha cause today's people they don't want to get there fingers dirty they just junk there old cars by the way im a FORD CHEVY an DODGE truck lover specially when it comes to classic trucks. We need to keep all American classic running don't junk the thing fix it i get sad when i see American classic going for demolition it makes me want to cry some times
good stuff... love old iron
Thanks for these great videos Bro. Look forward to the continuing story of your beautiful masterpiece..I learned a lot!, --a proud '69 owner since '78 or so.
Keep these videos coming!
The furthest wheel cylinder from the Master cylinder is "The front passenger wheel"(?) I thought the reservoir, the bigger one served the back brakes for there bring more distance in the lines thus needing more fluid. I'm redoing the drums on my 1970 F-100(Ranger XLT) and these videos sure help. But like with a video on adjusting the steering, I'm sometimes left with as many questions as answers.
can't wait for the next video on this rebuild.
The year of this truck, and it still has good a good body. Watch when modern cars get this old, and see how they look. All the Brand New Trucks, yea, Much less thickness of metal. It will be very sad.
Clean the windows, good man. Drive safe😉
great video man i loved it
My 68 was rusted in the same place. Ford put the hood hinges on before they primed the inner fender aprons, and then there is the hole under where the battery sits. Lol
the motor sounds strong runs good
Love the series and love the truck, just found the videos and definitely subscribed. Keep it up man
Thanks.
thats awesome, keep up the good work
Thanks
Sweet, I also enjoy the shows
Sort of looks like the drag farm truck💪🏽
She's a beauty!👍
Good job
I watched all the vids. Good job men. No smoke out of that engine. The only thing that bothered me was the compression fitting on that brake line is illegal in my state. Good luck with the rest of the job.
Surprisingly good shape for 20 years of neglect.
HELL YEA MAN WISH I HAD THAT DANG TRUCK
been working on my 81 f100. 65k miles, it has been in a garage for the most of the last 38 years. old lady had it dropped off at a local shop...then passed away. None of her kin wanted the "ratty" old girl. so i bought it after it sat for 3 years. the only thing wrong i could find is 1 crack in the dash...and the engine was seized from having ethanol gas rusting the piston rings.
M sterns did you get it un seized?
When you pulled out of the drive way, wished there was no music so we could here the truck run!
Subscribed 👍🏽
Great Job
Thanks
C2H6 are you a Ford guy or do you just like working on these old trucks?
+Gerrit Graham I'm more of a ford guys but like others as well. Honestly other than the emblem on the front most of it is the same.
This was cool
Very good
Thanks
Check those metal lines, because they will rust through and fail just when you need them the most. You won't soon forget hat sinking feeling of doom you get when the brakes work for a second, and then suddenly the pedal drops to the floor because a rusted line burst.
My dude! I really loved watching this series from the beginning. You and Thunderhead sure found a beauty. Have you been able to do any work on it since this video?
You really need to look to turn this into a series! You could get auto sponsors, auto parts sponsors, you could get A&E to pilot the show and build viewership then randomly visit people who have a 'great story' of a car now sitting that you all get running on site then drive it off to rebuild it from photos given and research! reveal, family tears, great tv! You should also watch Chris Fix, he may have more ideas! original, refreshing and way cool! You have something here! make it happen, you only live once!!!
I feel that if I get a sponsor, they could dictate what the truck would outcome as and I want it to be my choice. This is just one of my hobbies and I have a full time job that I really enjoy as well.
But I appreciate the encouragement.
C2H6 No problem, I totally understand. That's what contracts and stipulations are for. I subd, keep up the great work bro!
Is the family member who parked this oh so many years ago still around to be able to drive it once it is restored? I hope he/she is. It would make the restoration that much sweeter.
Yep. It was my dad, hoping t o have it done for his 60th birthday in a few years.
C2H6 oh nice
C2H6 he will probably love it so much and cry
Does it have power steering so your dad can drive it?
Old guys are tougher than boiled owl, he’ll be able to steer it.
Was that 3 on the tree? I see that set up on cars mostly most pickups have the floor shifter if their manual transmission so it's kinda a special truck that was brought back to life ..nice
I have enjoyed this series and wonder after year any updates or progress on the 68?
I have fittings with tubing on them so the brake fluid just recycles when you pump the brakes.
No smoke going down the street.
bring this to a cassic car meet and record the reactions
It is annoying to have to wait for parts. Yeah, it's 50 years old but there are a lot of them around. You'd think they'd have replacement parts on the shelves for these. Double annoyance is new parts that don't work. I go with name brands instead of store brands and have had good results.
This one of my favorite trucks,i'd like to have one except have the gas tank in the rear of the bed and add power steering.
I watched this once in St George because I was to trucks and there was this one I wanted (I was only 12 at the time and now I’m 13) and it was a 66 f-250 custom cab and it’s like I’m bitting the bullet for being 16 but I will probably regret it lol
I noticed the shifter was straight up. We're u starting out in 2nd gear?
tits just stumbled upon the origional video then saw this went up to 5 and it was posted today... fucking nice. looking forward to more
Thanks. There will definitely be more, will just some time
i knwo how that goes im taking my 1975 el camino rescue step by step needs one of everythign but drives haha like this truck :)
I have the same truck it's a 69 this video really help me out can you make a video on how to fix the front cab mounts :)
Any more updates or upgrades done on the 68? Would love to see another vid on this ole timer.
I have a few video raw footage just nothing edited yet.
The wheel bearings look like they need cleaned up, and re-packed as well, or just replaced. I know it's difficult to show a lot of stuff, using only one hand. Great video!
Yes they do need repacked. Just wanted to get the brakes tackled first. And thanks.
made a really big mistake with my 65 Ford FE had it for 40 years just never thought those front brake lines would fail but one day coming down hill with the heavy load one of them failed you have no idea can't imagine what it's like to stop one of these things with the old brake lines on the front when one gives away ,just throwing that out there to anybody that might have something that's been sitting a long time might want to start with the front brake lines talking specifically about those rubber ones that go to wheel cylinder!
Did you engage your safety-squints when you blew out the rust from the master cylinder?
Just found this and watched all of the episodes. Curious if you have any other videos pending for the rebuild.
I will have. Been busy moving houses. Hope to have truck all torn down and posted by the end of summer.
Nice to watch a clip about mechanics and cars where the maker hasn't used that so annoying club or rave music. Niceone mate.
that reminds me of my first truck i had god i mis the old fords
Has the valve seats been changed to hardened valve seat. Of not then they will need to be.
Time machine. Well done! No way anyone will be able to do this in 50 years on a 2017 anything.
Thanks and ya there is way too many electronics and parts on new vehicles to be able to fix an up this easily. I can't believe the truck is almost 50 years old.
Linda!
MORE VIDEO PARTS ABOUT THIS TRUCK!!
God bless Ford.
Any progress on this bad boy truck...
What is the windshield so dirty
any new update video on this truck?
Did you repack the wheel bearings when you had the wheels off?
Not yet. That will get done after going all the way down to the frame
Are you from Cuba?
We want to see finished product
I know this video is over a year old and you'll probably never see this but, if you do why were you starting out in second gear all the time for?
That's a good way to ruin the clutch and pressure plate not to mention the undo stress and strain on all the other parts of the linkage.
I watched all the episodes of this project and it was great to see an old ford coming back to life, good job!
Granny gear and a strat six come on no stress starting in second at all on that low geared tranny
