Is the Fuji X-H2s Any Good for Event Photography?

  • I recently sold my Canon R5 and committed to using Fuji cameras for my client work. And this video is based on my experience at a recent all day event - a business conference and a non-profit fundraiser on a yacht at night. I used the 16-55mm XF lens that I recently purchased and I rented the XF50-150mm for this event as well. The key performance areas that I was concerned about was resolution, image quality, ergonomics & comfort for a long event. If you like this video, please like it and leave a comment. Nice one, Wes. I shot a few thousand photos with the X-H2s this weekend and it MADE ME SO HAPPY! I didn't have the itch to reach for the A7iv, which is a win. I'll be selling the A7iv!

    Any camera can be used for event photography well. I don't even have to watch this video. If I can do it with the xt3 and my old sony a6000, then of course xh2s can.

    I switched from the canon 80D to the X-T4 a little less than a year ago. Very happy with the switch, but I sometimes wish I had waited until the X-H2s was out…. Then again, something newer and better is always down the road. Look forward to your thoughts on the X-H2s, keep up the good work!

      Thank you for watching and for leaving a comment! I'm torn over the X-T4, actually. I bought it twice and sold it twice! It's so great in terms of specs but I didn't pick it up enough. When I unboxed the X-H2s, I immediately recognized it was a better fit for my hand, and I think that was the big deal breaker ultimately with the Fuji X-T4 - just ergonomics! Everything else is 🔥

      @@WesKriesel that is the one thing I liked more about the 80D it had better ergonomics. I do like the smaller size of the X-T4, but with the heavier lenses like the 16-55mm, I wish it had a larger grip. But I got it more for the colors, dual card slot, IBIS, film simulations, SOC jpg, and so many other reasons.

    I also switched to Fuji after shooting Canon for nearly 40 years. I have always appreciated Canon image quality but their RF glass was cost prohibitive for me. Fuji glass is much more cost effective & the quality of images from the Fuji lenses is exceptional. I hope that Fuji can continue to refine their auto focus, particularly with respect to CAF & having it work without necessarily have to use the custom settings, with respect to the subject(s) that you are photographing. In other words, that the autofocus “simply” works all the time in all situations.

      @WesKriesel  Рік тому

      Thank you for watching and for leaving a comment! Good thoughts! The cost of RF glass is a factor. I really think the RF 50 F/1.2 and the RF 28-70 F/2 are rather magical and elevate your game so to speak but the other RF lenses are over-priced. And in comparison, the Fuji lenses are such a great value. What's your favorite Fuji lens? I'm looking at the 50-140 lens after having rented it twice.

    Man, I'm holding onto my original X-T3 and 3 lenses but wish I didn't have to sell everything else to fund my cinema stuff. This camera looks amazing. Fuji definitely has better highlight roll-off than a lot of brands. I still prefer the X-T3 and 50mm F1 over the R5 C and 85mm F1.2. Looking forward to your X-H2 impressions so I can justify impulse buying it after some gig.

    Hey Wes! A very encouraging video! I have been a Fuji user for the last 5 years for both hobby and professional work. My X-H1 took a turn for the worst and now my X-T4 stands alone. I'm getting close to making an X-H2S purchase to use as my primary camera, but admittedly have been tempted by the full frame class, particularly the Canon r6 mark ii. I've never been a full frame user, but as we know, the grass is always perceptibly greener on the other side. I wonder, at this crossroads, if it's worth switching camera systems and if I would be moving up another tier quality-wise with full frame (particulaly with low light/high ISO). I shoot event, street, portraiture and the occasional studio and product work. Curious to hear if your thoughts have changed, evolved, etc. based on your use of the X-H2s for professional work.
    Looking forward to seeing more of your videos and work!
    Thank you from Seattle!

      Hey Jordan! I'm really happy with the X-H2s. I've been doing quite a bit of video, like a mini documentary, and it's truly impressive. I didn't enjoy the X-T4 which was mostly due to ergonomics, so I'm definitely biased towards the upgrade there. The R6 is an amazing choice as well but I am more inspired and excited when I shoot with Fuji.

    A very wonderful video analysis Kriesel. I am contemplating venturing into wedding & portrait photography and now i am confused which gear to start with between the two camera system (Fujifilm or Canon). Will it be a good idea purchasing X-H2s and Canon R5 and use it side by side.

    • @WesKriesel
      @WesKriesel  Рік тому

      Thank you for watching and for leaving a comment! I would not recommend that you ix systems. If I were starting out, I'd go with Canon. I believe the menu system and touch controls make it an easier starting point. The R5 has great quality and is reliable as well. You won't regret it. But to invest in 2 different systems - like lenses etc - wouldn't be efficient. Try renting the cameras if you seriously don't know which direction to go first.

      @@WesKriesel i intend to start from the scratch and torn between two ideas. Either i buy one R5 and one R6 or; a R5 and X-H2s. The budget for the gears and lenses would not be so much of a hindrance but rather the choice of the ecosystem.

    Those look like wonderful lenses. I don't understand how Fuji chooses to 'red label' the lenses. For sure, the 16-55 and 50-150 (f/2.8) are good workhorse lenses that Fuji had to make. But, the new version of the 56 f/1.2 and the new 18mm f/1.4 are both super amazing but I don't think they have that label. What gives? (BTW, Tim is a super nice guy.)

    • @WesKriesel
      @WesKriesel  2 місяці тому

      Those are indeed great lenses! Fuji assigns the 'red label' to certain high-end XF lenses, and sometimes the choices aren’t very clear. It might depend on specific features or standards that Fuji prioritizes.
