I had a heart attack on May 30th 2022. I acted quickly, getting to the hospital ASAP. I got 2 heart stents, and was then placed on Atorvastatin. Over the course of the next year I had blood work showing the effectiveness of that medication on my blood lipid panel. But I was having side effects of the Atorvastatin. Telling my doctor what I had chosen to do, I stopped taking the Atorvastatin and started taking Berberine. I have had a complete blood panel since then. My cholesterol is down, my HDL is up, my weight is down, and I no longer have loose stools that the Atorvastatin was causing.
I should add that I requested a Lipid Panel showing the VLDL, not just the usual screening. My VLDL is 13 (normal range is 5 to 40). I don't have a previous reading on that to compare, but I will see how future labs compare to this.
PS. Because Berberine is a natural product, and can not be patented, who is going to produce the studies on it?

Now I am talking 1,000 miligrams of berberine twice a day and my metformin is less than half at 750 per day. I am phasing out the metformin little by little always watching what I eat and checking my blood levels. One thing I found is that even if I cheat once in a while with a sugar pastry early in the evening I still have my sugar level at 103-105 in the morning. I was diagnosed Type 2 Diabetic 10 months ago. Since then I’ve lost 92lbs and A1C down from 7.0 to 4.7! I’ve cut out sugar, flour, pasta, rice, cornmeal and processed foods. Occasionally, I’ll have a treat, but not often. That being said, due to my persistence and determination, my Dr recently took me off Metformin. I do still have about 40 lbs to lose and recently started taking Berberine to continue my blood sugar maintenance and to help kick off the last of my weight loss. The comments here are very encouraging! I look forward to seeing how my body responds to Berberine and hopefully it’s positive impact on my body! FYI - I Do Not Trust Our GVRMT…….

Portion control and everything in moderation? Carbs and sugar in moderation? Are you serious? I was on Metformin and statins for twelve years, struggling with type 2 diabetes and cholesterol issues, until I woke up and found doctors, like Berg, Berry, Ekberg, Bosworth Fung Gundry and many more that helped me get off these meds. My A1C was 5.1 and my cholesterol 148 and l went down from 165bs to 147 lbs. by eating few veggies and lots of fat and taking berberine. Keto diet, or I like to call it BBBE diet. (Beef, bacon, butter and eggs). I've learned more on UA-cam in two months than I've learned from my health providers in years. I also like to add, I fired my cardiologist who tried to convince me to take statins after he saw my cholesterol results. (148) Maybe pharma promised him a Mersedes or a nice vacation if he pushed more statins. This goes on a lot between docs and pharmaceutical companies. Be careful folks, it's a jungle out there. Not being regulated means there are standard or mandates for testing or quality, such as, whether or not what they say is in the pill actually is. But hey, if you don’t want any assurances that what you pay for and put in your mouth is what you expect it to be, then go for it. And if you are so down on the medical community, i trust you will stay out of the ER if one of your unregulated cure-alls turns out to be just the opposite. I’ll take regulated healthcare, meds, and supplements any day of the year to the alternative. Also perhaps you should find another MD if all they tell you about is the diarrhea and leave out the other stuff.

.. ive looked into Berberine and decided giving a try after being diagnosed with macular edema.. never controlled my sugars for ten years.. metformin giving me side affects.. i told myself i have no choice but to now take metformin to help with the sugars being over 200 daily.. i began Keto and Intermittent fasting a couple of years before the pandemic and was able to reverse my diabetes.. but then i began drinking.. was still intermittent fasting and doing one meal a day.. at times no more than two meals a day.. i stuck to it then recently gave up drinking in December because of an upper respiratory infection that would allow me to sleep for over a week from coughing in bed non stop.. lost my voice for weeks.. i started eating less junk one during week limiting to my days off only but only one meal a day.. A1C was around 11 in December and recently now at 8.6.. ive strictly omitted carbs and went ketovore.. every now and then ill have some non starchy vegetables and was able to drop at least 15lbs now.. sugars are in control and decided to take Berberine instead of Metformin.. it significantly helped with bringing sugars down.. weight?.. not too sure about.. since i know Keto and Intermittent Fasting worked for me in dropping weight.. it was also said Metformin can deplete your B1.. Berberine is more natural without the extra side affects.. it works for me..

Agree with most of your coments, just one note: all side efects that you mentioned referring to berberine, are exactly the same side effects that people get from metformin. Hence, no difference here.

I take Metamucil - sugar free - and apple cider vinegar before meals and eat one meal a day, and i'm losing a few lbs. My blood sugar was creeping up so will be interested to see this fall when i go for my annual medical to see if things have improved for the better.

Make sure with Metamucil you drink sufficient water! We used to use it widely in healthcare but patients didn't take in enough water, and Metamucil would form gel plugs in the GI tract. So hydrate.

Docs - I would be very interested if you ever did a video on the general arrangements for a surgery. A gazillion questions.
Do you have the same team, or whoever is available, and who/how many do you need? Do you all meet beforehand? In an emergency, what is the least number of people you could use - anaesthetist and surgeon? Does the whole operating room need sterilising? What equipment do you need as standard? What instruments do you use? Have you started a surgery and had to alter or stop for some reason? What do you do if you feel a sneeze coming on? Is a very muscular person harder to work on? Are you drained after a surgery or is it just part of your day? Have you every 'lost' anyone? (You don't have to answer that!). Do you actually say, 'Nurse, the scalpel'? Are you quiet as you operate or do you chat and joke? Have you had a nurse faint? Have you ever left anything inside someone? (Don't answer that either!) How many operations do you do in one day? Are your wives in the profession? Thank you, and good night!

The medical institutions we have in Canada are very good with highly trained professionals, but where it falls down is the heavy reliance on pharmaceuticals. Ozempic is booming due to the pushing of the drug for weight loss. This in itself is a quick fix and I’ve known two people that have lost significant weight using it. However they are both obviously losing lean mass in addition to fat. Dr Attia has done some studies that have indicated this. Long term implications are not yet known, but one could guess higher incidents of fractures could happen to people as the age as a result of ozempic
Eat whole foods, eat less and move more it’s not fast or easy, but it does work

I started taking 400 mg with MCT oil (NOW) for insulin resistance. I’m not diabetic but did abuse my body with a Coca-Cola addiction for years. Been off sodas for years now but was left with insulin resistance & high blood pressure. My blood pressure has come down & I’m hoping my insulin resistance will improve over time. I do watch what I eat & exercise take other vitamins bc I know it’s whole body care.

I started on Berberine to see if it would help me lose weight along with a change in diet. I take it in the morning and I don't get hungry at all and I had to actually force myself to eat sometimes. I have lost 35 pounds and I am going to keep at it until I lose another 30 pounds which will put me at my weight when I joined the US Army in 1982. I started this diet because I am getting older and I have a son in college still. I decided it was time to get back control of my weight and perhaps gain some more years with my family. It works for me and when I stop taking it, I get hungry much easier and find myself thinking more about eating. I recommend it to a lot of folks along with a low carb diet.

One caveat, Berberine traditionally (for millennia), was used safely for transient digestive conditions like diarrhea, not for lifelong chronic usage. The safety profile for long term use has not been established and it can accumulate in the tissues where unintended side effects (neurological) may develop. Claiming it's safe just because it has been used in a different way historically does not mean its safe, especially with people taking megadoses daily.
