You guys are great! I’m a 70-year-old retired nurse in Ontario after having worked full time for 45 years (till 5 years ago) mostly in critical care, first with adults and the last 23 years in NICU. During all of that, I was married to a commercial pilot (away a lot) and we had 5 children. A sense of humour along with a lot of love, perseverance and patience got us through some tough years with the schedules we both had (and all those kids-no year-long mat leaves back then! lol). I love your wonderful sense of humour and respect your videos. I always recognized that you did/do your research and I thank you for doing that for us! I appreciate you for providing this information. I have spent countless hours doing my own research on nutrition and I finally just got fed up with all the conflicting advice. You guys are Doctors with no agenda other than finding the most reliable information we have right now. I used to take Omega-3's and other supplements but now I just try to eat a balanced diet and stay away from processed food. I only take supplements if my Dr. tells me to. I am 71 and in good health. Thanks for all you do.
Thanks for this. As a stroke survivor, I want to do everything I can to never have another, so I take a lot of fish oil supplements, and I love my salmon. And as it happens, I went to my optometrist today and she said my eye health is excellent and to keep doing what I’m doing. Also, I seldom have to take Tylenol for my arthritis, which is another plus.

As a kid, our mum gave us 1 tablespoon of cod liver oil every morning during Fall & Winter. I now take Krill oil capsules, vitamin D and Magnesium glycinate to help with mood, anxiety, arthritis and Fibro symptoms.
I remember when my dad came home with a MINT flavored cod liver oil by mistake, and being the thrifty guy he was, tried to make us take it by trying it himself first - and immediately vomited! 🤮 😂 That was the end of ALL the cod liver oil in our house!
Cod liver oil helps keeps my eczema manageable (helps my skin retain moisture), and has helped minimize my IBS symptoms! It may or may not be related to the health/integrity of cell membranes, as mentioned by the doctors at the beginning of the video 🤷

Flaxseed milk tastes good in my tea and probably in your coffee too. Unsweetened Good Carma brand. Can use for smoothies. 1 cup serving size. Has fiber, protein, iron vitamin b12 and 1200mg plant-based Omega 3 fatty acids. Now when I drink milk it doesn't tastes the same anymore. Its shelf stable so it keeps in your pantry for months. Has 0 saturated fat, and 160 sodium. Just 3.79 a quart at stop and shop. Cheaper than supplements.
I eat 3 to 4 T of flaxseedmeal every day to help keep my blood pressure down. That, along with 400 mg of magnesium taurate every day. My doctor is very happy with that.
I did also for a year... then read information on HOW much to take, the negative effects of taking too much, etc... Looking up information on ground flaxseed was a huge EYE OPENER!! 😬

I try to eat salmon once a week and put walnuts on my low fat cottage cheese for breakfast. I don't think I get as much Omega-3 fatty acids in my diet so take a fish oil and flaxseed oil capsule daily. Note that my surgeon who performed TKR on both knees advised I stop taking these supplements 2 weeks prior to and 4 weeks after surgeries due to the potential for bleeding. Thanks for all you do for us Docs!
If u lower your sugar intake and carbohydrates Doctor your triglycerides will plummet cus triglycerides is a by product of sugar. You need a ratio of 2 to 1 omega 3 to 6 to have low inflammation. Simple 👍 love watching your videos doctors keep up the good work 👍
Yep, omega-3 is important to counteract the over abundance of onega-6 in the SAD (standard american diet) AND for those of us who are vegan. I include freshly ground flax, chia and hemp daily. Great info as usual, thanks!! ❤
Counteracting omega6 in the diet may not be possible, since so much of it finds its way into our food. Problem is, both of these PUFAs compete for the same specific resources to be utilized. Reducing omega6s is a better way to promote availability of omega3s for their benefits.
I watched a video about the combination of Vitamin B and omega 3. It was 1 1/2 hour long and presented by the dean of pharmacology at a UK university. It was a study done over 13 years looking at ways of reducing cognitive decline with food. Fish like salmon was good with vitamin B and omega 3. Essentially it was the combination that mattered. I think it was presented by the University of California.

Great review, appreciate your honesty and alerting the public to the vested interests of who is paying for the studies regarding efficacy. My big concern about supplements is that they are unregulated. We don't really know what is in the tablet and how it compares to the other companies making the same product. It's hard for me to get on board when these supplements are both expensive and unregulated. Would love to see a video where you sampled several brands and had them tested .
taken Omega 3's for 20 yrs since i tore an Achilles tendon and researched that it helped in the maintenance of supple tendons.. a bonus was my ragweed allergy became quite mild as Omega's support immune system function...

don;t forget to take magnesium when you take vitamin D because vitamin D needs magneisum to get activated if you don't you will deplete your magnesium levels

Great video. I wanted to share something here I just found out about flax seeds. I love ground roasted flax seeds and have been having them on my oatmeal every morning but I just randomly found out that a particular brand (the one I happened to be eating!) has an unhealthy level of cadmium in it. : ( I'm not saying don't eat flax seeds but maybe do some research on which are the safest, cleanest kind to buy. And if you figure it out, please let me know. Fish does seem really healthy. I don't think I'd use a supplement but just eat a healthy balanced diet. I love these videos. I have been looking into EPA and DHA for the last 5 years and based on what I have learned I would not take concentrated EPA and DHA. Stop eating fast food and highly processed foods and eat mostly plants.
So this is a very real but not until you are taking very high doses like 2-4g per day. Stick wirh 250-500mg per day and there is no documented increase risk of AF

My eye doctor recommended I start taking an omega 3 liquid supplement to improve my eye health. It tastes a bit fishy but it’s only a teaspoon a day (1250 mg) and has a lemony flavour added.
7:52 If you are referring to the VITAL trial, there are significant issues there. They didn’t measure Omega-3 index, the dose was too small (1g), and the duration was too short. Atherosclerosis develops over decades, expecting a short course of Omega-3 to change that direction is not reasonable. Unfortunately the decades long prospective double blind RCT will never be done (too expensive and too long)
I was eating some peanuts in my work place the other day and offered my co worker some. She said she didn't want any. I said they are a good source for protein. She is a bit thin and frail. She said I drink Ensure. Personally I would rather get my protein from food. Good that supplements are available for folks who feel otherwise. In 2008 I started getting some hip pain in my left hip. It soon began in my right hip. I asked my GP about it and he said "let me know when it gets bad enough and we will schedule your hip replacement surgery." The pain gradually got worse til in 2013 it was bad enough that I quit a hike and came home early. I figured it would get debilitating so I wanted to have one more good volcano season first. So I started taking new supplements that would help my strength and stamina. In early 2014 I noticed that my hip pain was gone. I had a great season hiking 260 miles, 75,000 feet & some great volcanos. After volcano season I stopped all my new supplements. My hip pain came back. I started resuming them one at a time to see which cured my hip pain. It was EPA/DHA. I took EPA/DHA for a year. No hip pain. I stopped EPA/DHA. The pain came back. I resumed EPA/DHA. It is now 2024. I am 74 years old and still have no hip pain. I am taking pills that have 500mg of EPA and 250mg of DHA, 4 per day. I have tried several brands. They all work.

I have a J pouch, I don’t have a colon. I take 200 mg Omega-3 fatty acids every day, when I forget I can tell immediately. My J pouch causes me to have non-stop diarrhea. My butt gets very sore, unless I take Omega-3. It also helps keeps my eyes from getting dry. ❤
You guys are awesome and I love all your information! I have dry eye and was recommended by my eye doctor to take hydro eye which is an Omega 3 supplement I also eat ground flaxseed and chia seeds daily, My dry eye is so much better.
You can also check the omega6/omega3 ratio in erythrocytes to see if you have enough of omega3 and most likely too much omega6 (canola, sunflower, cotton seed oils...)

I have familial hypercholesteroleamia. I use flax meal and chia seeds almost every day. Used to take EPA & DHA (algea capsules). Will get back to that ASAP (It's expensive here in Australia). I avoid fish oil as I'm a vegan - check out how oil is extracted from fish! Yikes! Grind everything up, (guts, eyeballs, fins, etc.) use a solvent to wash oil out of the gloop - no thanks.
I take Vascepa Omega 3 EPA 4GR daily. I alternate with Lovaza which has both EPA and DHA. Both are Pharmaceutical cleared of all impurities. Does it work? I don’t really know.

I wonder if oil supplements are pure, as there is an issue of unsatisfactory fillers being in tablet supplements, etc. Just wondered. My neighbor had a boat and went tuna fishing in hopes of catching a big dollar tuna but only caught small ones. In denial of mercury he ate tuna day after day and got mercury poisoning. His wife warned him. I eat a can of it 2-3x a month max.

you can try magnesium chloride oil on the skin for your arthritic pains

Great review, appreciate your honesty and alerting the public to the vested interests of who is paying for the studies regarding efficacy. My big concern about supplements is that they are unregulated. We don't really know what is in the tablet and how it compares to the other companies making the same product. It's hard for me to get on board when these supplements are both expensive and unregulated. Would love to see a video where you sampled several brands and had them tested .

Great video. I wanted to share something here I just found out about flax seeds. I love ground roasted flax seeds and have been having them on my oatmeal every morning but I just randomly found out that a particular brand (the one I happened to be eating!) has an unhealthy level of cadmium in it. : ( I'm not saying don't eat flax seeds but maybe do some research on which are the safest, cleanest kind to buy. And if you figure it out, please let me know. Fish does seem really healthy. I don't think I'd use a supplement but just eat a healthy balanced diet. I love these videos. Oh yes, Dr. Weening should totally go to night school for nutrition. That would be amazing. this channel is a great place to share knowledge and get good, legit info. Thanks.

I have been looking into EPA and DHA for the last 5 years and based on what I have learned I would not take concentrated EPA and DHA. Stop eating fast food and highly processed foods and eat mostly plants.

Although I'm awaiting to see an EP at the end of the month for high burden PACs, and atrial bigeminy with intermittent abberancy, my GP wants me to take just over 1.15g combined omega 3 fatty acids per day due to hypertriglyceridemia.
Do you believe this is safe? I'm just short of 30, quit smoking, but do drink quite a bit.
The JAMA article I found that started all of this seems to examine dosages of 2-4g/d

My eye doctor recommended I start taking an omega 3 liquid supplement to improve my eye health. It tastes a bit fishy but it’s only a teaspoon a day (1250 mg) and has a lemony flavour added.
7:52 If you are referring to the VITAL trial, there are significant issues there. They didn’t measure Omega-3 index, the dose was too small (1g), and the duration was too short. Atherosclerosis develops over decades, expecting a short course of Omega-3 to change that direction is not reasonable. Unfortunately the decades long prospective double blind RCT will never be done (too expensive and too long)
I was eating some peanuts in my work place the other day and offered my co worker some. She said she didn't want any. I said they are a good source for protein. She is a bit thin and frail. She said I drink Ensure. Personally I would rather get my protein from food. Good that supplements are available for folks who feel otherwise. Thanks for the video and telling us about what the research says.

Note the recent association of Omega 3 supplementation and in the increased incidence of Afib.
It's better to eat oily fish or take flaxseed oil. Neither of those are associated with afib. I stopped taking fish oil supplements years ago.
In 2008 I started getting some hip pain in my left hip. It soon began in my right hip. I asked my GP about it and he said "let me know when it gets bad enough and we will schedule your hip replacement surgery." The pain gradually got worse til in 2013 it was bad enough that I quit a hike and came home early. I figured it would get debilitating so I wanted to have one more good volcano season first. So I started taking new supplements that would help my strength and stamina. In early 2014 I noticed that my hip pain was gone. I had a great season hiking 260 miles, 75,000 feet & some great volcanos. After volcano season I stopped all my new supplements. My hip pain came back. I started resuming them one at a time to see which cured my hip pain. It was EPA/DHA. I took EPA/DHA for a year. No hip pain. I stopped EPA/DHA. The pain came back. I resumed EPA/DHA. It is now 2024. I am 74 years old and still have no hip pain. I am taking pills that have 500mg of EPA and 250mg of DHA, 4 per day. I have tried several brands. They all work.

I have a J pouch, I don’t have a colon. I take 200 mg Omega-3 fatty acids every day, when I forget I can tell immediately. My J pouch causes me to have non-stop diarrhea. My butt gets very sore, unless I take Omega-3. It also helps keeps my eyes from getting dry. ❤

You can also check the omega6/omega3 ratio in erythrocytes to see if you have enough of omega3 and most likely too much omega6 (canola, sunflower, cotton seed oils...)

Only use Omega 3 from a prescription.
I have familial hypercholesteroleamia. I use flax meal and chia seeds almost every day. Used to take EPA & DHA (algea capsules). Will get back to that ASAP (It's expensive here in Australia). I avoid fish oil as I'm a vegan - check out how oil is extracted from fish! Yikes! Grind everything up, (guts, eyeballs, fins, etc.) use a solvent to wash oil out of the gloop - no thanks.

I. The process of obtaining the supplies
The Sacha Inchi (Plukenetia Volubilis Linneo ) is a seed obtained through the cultivation in organic earth located in the Central Forest of the Peru in medium altitudes and it implies all the corresponding agricultural works. II. Oil obtaining Process
The Sacha Inchi is an organic vegetable product which content goes through an extraction process in cold, to be converted into an extravirgen oil, allowing the human being to count with a product which enables him to metabolize his own omegas (precursory acids O-6, O-3, and O-9), creating in consequence a natural order.
The fish oil, having an animal origin offers the human being the O-3, metabolized by the said organism which was used as supplier source in the process of the oil production; the source precursor is the plankton.
III.Comparison among their main components
The Sacha Inchi has over 47% more content of linolenic acid, the O·3 precursor The fish oil has from 22% to 33% of O·3, being the anchovy the best fish for the O·3 Oil.
Due to the fact, that the Sacha Inchi contains the precursor a-linolenic in superior quantity, it is able to produce more EPA and DHA (Omega 3), than any other fish and it offers an ideal combination of O·3 (in more content), besides the O.6 and O.9.
The Sacha Inchi has 3.85% of Palmitic acid and 0.0% of Palmitic-oleic. & nbsp;
The Anchovy has 19.9% of Palmitic acid and 10.5% of Palmitic-oleic.
A less content of these components better for the human body.
The Sacha Inchi has 93.69% of Unsaturated Fatty Acids.
The fish oils can contain from 65% to 77% Unsaturated Fatty Acids.
The higher percentage makes it more favourable to the health.
The Sacha Inchi has 6.4% of Saturated Fatty Acids.
The fish oils can contain from 22% to 35% of Saturated Fatty Acids.
The lowest percentage of saturated fatty is the most healthy.
The smell and the flavor of the Sacha Inchi is like the nature and similar to the beans.
The smell and the flavor of the fish oil is well known. When a person takes softgels of fish oil may belchs the fish flavor.
The complementary process to eliminate the characteristic smell and flavor of the Sacha Inchi Oil and the development of the sub-products with flavor discretion (final product), is already a reality and slowly, but in a progressive and sustained way they will occupy a higher level in the market to those products, which are elaborated on basis of fish oil, due to their superior characteristics.
IV. Conclusion
ALL THIS MEANS THAT SACHA INCHI OIL, IS THE PRECURSOR SOURCE OF O·3 (WITH AN IDEAL COMBINATION OF O·6 AND O·9) OF VEGETABLE AND ORGANIC ORIGIN ALLOWS THE HUMAN BEING TO METABOLIZE THEIR OWN O·3, BECOMING A VERY SUPERIOR HEALTH PRODUCT IN RELATION TO THE FISH OILS WHICH CONTAINS O·3.

My neighbor had a boat and went tuna fishing in hopes of catching a big dollar tuna but only caught small ones. In denial of mercury he ate tuna day after day and got mercury poisoning. His wife warned him. I eat a can of it 2-3x a month max.
It is unfortunately a very real issue.
Sardines and salmon are much better because of the low mercury levels. They also have more fatty acids in them.
