Went plant based about 2 months ago after my A1c crept up. Now down almost 20 lbs, no inflammation and no expensive injectables. Only side effects are more money, more energy, better sleep, better stamina, and on the downside at this rate I’ll need a new wardrobe soon. 😢
Other sources: 2. Flaxseeds and Chia Seeds: These seeds are rich in soluble fiber and also contain omega-3 fatty acids. They have been suggested to increase GLP-1 levels and improve insulin sensitivity. 3. Cinnamon: Cinnamon has been shown to enhance GLP-1 secretion and improve insulin sensitivity. Incorporating cinnamon into your diet can be as simple as adding it to oatmeal, smoothies, or baked goods. 5. Berries: Berries such as strawberries, blueberries, and raspberries are not only rich in fiber but also contain antioxidants and other beneficial compounds. They have been associated with increased GLP-1 secretion and improved glucose metabolism. 6. Turmeric: Turmeric, a spice commonly used in curry dishes, contains a compound called curcumin. Curcumin has been found to increase GLP-1 production and may have potential benefits for blood sugar regulation.
At one point I was doing (for various reasons but I think the main one was to try and reduce bad cholesterol) what I called my fiber mixture with dinner. It was about 1 Tbsp each of Potato Starch (resistant starch), Chia Seeds, Ground Flax Seed, Oat Bran. I would then mix in some cinnamon and cloves and/or allspice and add some raisins and almond milk. Now that I have stopped doing that I realize that I did find I had less hunger in general and was 30 pounds lighter. So I need to go back to that and maybe do it at lunch too. Also I have found water fasting for 2-3 days every so often reduces my hunger -- have read that it helps improve insulin and leptin resistance.
20 years ago I did weight watchers and back then one of the rules was that you could eat as much potato (plain without fat added obv) as you want in a sitting for 2 points - which is literally nothing when you have 18 points to spend in a day. So I was "gaming" the system by eating boiled potatoes with tomato sauce (tomatoes are "free") pretty much every day and then have fun with my other 16 points. You'd think I was cheating myself, but no, I actually did lose weight. I've been relying on potatoes for weightloss ever since. People are incredulous when I tell them, they just can't believe you could lose weight eating potatoes. Potatoes and carbs in general have been way too demonized. Anyway I thought it was funny that weight watchers knew this stuff already 20 years ago.
If carbs were as fattening as the low carb and carnivore factions claimed, I'd be on _My 600 Pound Life_ . Instead, I'm between 465 and 470 pounds short of qualifying.
once i started on a glp-1 i could start eating potatoes again and lose weight (actually can eat alot of carbs now) . i think some bodies just have less glp-1 and will put on weight, so it's not a high carb vs low carb thing but these gut hormones play a huge role in people's weight.
Good for you! potatoes are poison for me. One boiled potato and next day I'm pounds 4-6 pounds heavier! Yeap. it makes my body to retain lots of water! I'm not the only one it's just women don't know which one of the carbs they are eating are the culprits for it.
Anecdotal, but I think it’s relevant. My entire family has diabetes and high cholesterol except for me. I went vegan and mostly no sugar at 26 and completely prevented it so far (14 years). Also consistently at a decent weight. I have the occasional treat of a cupcake or something and I don’t worry about it at all. I walk daily but I don’t exercise, I’m pretty lazy. It’s a good life. Everyone says I look a lot younger than I am too, added benefit as I approach middle age.
@adamwalicki9958 calories make you fat, whether it's sugar or fat or whatever else. And getting your sugar from fruit is different than getting it from soda or desserts
@@adamwalicki9958 Overindulgence in sugar, refined carbohydrates, other forms of sweeteners in excess can cause an addiction pattern of cravings. Unrefined foods don't do that. So yes, sugar can cause overweight, as well as rot your teeth, contribute to high blood sugar and diabetes, etc. as it throws your system off. If you wouldn't give it to your dog or cat, don't assume it's OK for you.
Dude I was a drunk for 25ish years shortly after going vegan I quit I'm now sober and vegan about 5 years . I always knew veganism cured my alcoholism just didn't know how🌱🕉️
Not scientific in the least bit, but more metaphysical and spiritual (which some people might poo poo, but I've had intense direct repeat experiences of this side of life, some with powerful, in my face verification), but you raised your consciousness vibratory rates, metaphorically speaking, by eating vegan. There is a lot of fear energy in animal flesh foods (especially the more complex animals like cows, and especially pigs). That fear energy is very slow vibratory and has a damaging effect on the human energy system, not just physically, but also energetically. Meanwhile, alcoholics and drugs addicts are often the targets of nasty nonphysically focused beings and/or a nasty ET group (most ET groups are from decent to positive, but there is least one very negative group that I know of directly/experientially). These psychopathic beings have found that it is easier to influence humans while they are drunk, high, etc (this influence gets especially bad during blackouts, which is when they take full control), so they hang around people with these issues to try to influence them. One of the influences of course, is to keep that human stuck in such patterns and cycles (being alcoholic etc). This makes it harder for the person to quit. But by raising your inner vibratory levels, you created a mismatch, a non harmonious resonation, a dissonance, with their vibratory patterns (after all, they are pure fear and ego based). You started to "repel" them more and were less easily influenced. This weakening of their influence on you, made it easier for you to quit.
An example of such verification: For our honeymoon, my partner and I went to The Monroe Institute and took their first program (it was significantly cheaper back then). During same, at one point, they brought us to another building. We watched a video of a Japanese show which featured an ex US military trained remove viewer do his thing for the show. Anyways, after the video, the trainers told us, we were going to try our own remote viewing practice. Our group was only given a random sequence of numbers to symbolically represent and "connect" to the target. I wrote down my impressions: I was getting impressions of this large, arching, thin metal structure. I was getting a fair amount of water, and lots of large buildings. After we all finished putting down our impressions, they revealed the target: it was the St. Louis Arch, which I didn't know about/hadn't seen before previously (one lady in our group, got even more and better details than me). When you have hundreds of experiences like this over many years, you tend to start trusting and believing in this kind of stuff. When I first started, I approached it extremely skeptically. For example, I had noticed, in high school, that I could sense when people were looking at me (it seemed like I was quite sensitive to it). So I started to run systematic experiments. In different classes, I would spend a set amount of time staring at most students (except the ones right to my sides or in back of me) and note if they noticed and how long it took if they did. Conclusion, there was something beyond statistical chance to it, and a trend was that women/females were significantly better at this sensing than males. But there were occasionally some male outliers. And this one girl (who I had a crush on, and who subjectively had a kind of "witchy" type vibe to me), was phenomenal, it was like she knew every single time, quickly, without fail (she was not interested in me [I was quite unpopular and ostracized], but had a crush on a football player, so her looking back at me wasn't due to mutual attraction).

Here is the answer - gut microbiome can improve mental focus, happiness, and regulate negative emotions this video is not vegan biased. You have to catch the one line in there that states something about plantbased/vegan brings superior strains of gut bacteria. Enjoy! ua-cam.com/video/b4CBy0uVqRc/v-deo.html
@@michaelaranyani3418 Hi Michael, UA-cam didn't notify me of your reply, and I'm just seeing it now, hence the delayed response. Yeah, it is a very big reality out there, Some physicists/physic theories postulate that there are many more dimensions than the ones we can perceive with our 5, material/physical senses. Based on my experiences, I would say that is true. I also would say that the observation of quantum entanglement strongly implies/suggests that on a fundamental level, everything is interconnected. When you allow for the possibility of two premises being true, multiple dimensions and the Oneness/interconnection of all (which is the only thing in my mind that would be able to contradict speed of light constraint/Einsteinian rules), well every so called "woo woo" phenomenon (spiritual, psychic, etc) can be explained, be rationale, be scientific. We humans aren't at any pinnacle or zenith of knowing the larger reality and how everything works. We don't even have the basics completely figured out--like what gravity is and exactly how it works, and similar for electricity--we have predictive models and we understand some rules/tendencies involved, but that is about it. Even if there are negative, unseen forces out there that exist, I wouldn't give them too much time and energy as to worry or the like. There are also many (more) positive forces/levels, and we can always ask these for help for anything, and in dealing with the negative forces/levels. I suspect that the positive forces are more powerful in some important ways. Anyways, I hope you continue to grow/evolve/raise your consciousness vibratory rates (i.e. become more and more attuned to pure universal Love). This planet/humanity surely needs more of that.
I am not vegetarian, but have eaten very limited low fat animal protein, mainly whole foods - lots of fruit and veggies and high carb, high fibre grains etc. Also, eating intuitively and listening to my hunger. I take regular but very gentle exercise. I am now in my 60s and my body is not much different from when I was young. I have no health concerns. High fibre, high carbs has been my way of life and it has worked so well for me.
The most natural appetite suppressant is an annoying telemarketer calling when you have taken three bites of your food. When I get interrupted, I always lose appetite 😂
i have ADHD and developed a binge eating problem. If you are struggling to lose weight and have an issue with attention span, ADD, ADHD, Binge eating, or any other unhealthy food habits... check out counseling. you would be surprised how much of it is mental and not physical. Getting mental illness or addressing structural differences in your brain could be the difference. I struggled for over a decade with weight problems. After therapy and medicating my ADHD and binge eating, im down 30 pounds in 4 months. (188 -> 158), my goal is 20-25% body fat, i am at about 30% right now :)
The adhd meds definitely help a lot haha. But I relate. I struggled with binge eating from age 12 - 21 (25 now). I realised a lot of the binging came from creating food rules (I won’t eat any “bad” food for 2 weeks kinda thing - like sort of restrictive thinking). The early binges kinda came from puberty cravings though haha
Thank you for doing this. My financial situation is currently negative (nothing too dramatic though, I'll manage) your channel though deserves financial awarding. I hope your finances are good. I shared this video to few people that I know, I hope as many sees this as possible, who does'nt know this already.
Given the inconvenience, exorbitant expense, side effects, and scarcity, I'll stick with my two weight loss programs: 1. Wait For Summer Diet 2. No Junk Food Diet The Wait For Summer Diet consists of waiting for the warmer months to arrive. Summer is here, and it's the most wonderful time of the year for losing weight. This is the season that brings me a smaller appetite and more chances to exercise. Losing weight in summer is the easy part. The hard part is keeping it off in winter, because Old Man Winter brings me a larger appetite and fewer chances to exercise. The No Junk Food Diet consists of ditching unhealthy foods and doubling down on the quantity and variety of healthy superfoods. This works wonders at enhancing summer weight loss AND reducing winter weight gain. I've been on this diet for most of the past 3 years, and it really does work. Of course, my motivation has been the pandemic. I need the immune system support and the anti-inflammatory support. Compared to all the other sacrifices we've had to make and still have to make, sacrificing junk food seems like nothing. Both of my weight loss programs bypass the expense, inconvenience, and weird and nasty side effects of Ozempic.
I thought you were going to say leafy greens were nature's Ozempic! I heard on one of Dr. Greger's podcasts that the thylakoids (I think that the term) in green leafy veggies make it all the way down to the ileum break and give your body the signal that 'we are all full!' and it curbs appetite. I was excited that you had something else in mind. I always learn so much here. Thanks for sticking to the science and for standing up to the naysayers.
I tried Ozempic for a month and actually gained weight. The side effects were terrible-severe nausea, constipation, and stomach pain. I think I gained weight because it made me retain fluid. I’ve been off of it for about a week and lost 3 pounds already but I’ve also been eating more raw foods. Still having issues with constipation. My husband is a diabetic and lost 15 pounds on Ozempic initially. Now, it’s not working as effectively. A friend of mine has lost 40 pounds but not diabetic. It’s working for her but she has slowed down on the weight loss.
Try Berberin with milk thistle vitamin c Before meals potassium chloride and after meals it cancels out carbs sugar Fasting Eating window 12 til 4 Or every other day fasting
I've had such a hard time getting GLP-1 agonists for my patients with poorly controlled diabetes - people who are really at risk of imminent adverse outcomes - because so many people are using it for weight loss. Don't get me wrong, there are some people whose excess weight is really putting them at increased risk. But this cosmetic use of semaglutide and similar medications has caused a shortage of the medications for people who might actually lose limbs, vision, or their lives without it. To put it lightly, it's extraordinarily frustrating. Appreciate this video highlighting, once again, that eating a whole-foods, plant-based diet is, you know, good for you. - Just A Vegan Excited About Beans, MD, MPH
Excellent info! Other advantages of fiber over injectable is that fiber foods taste ridiculously delicious, wholesome, are satisfying, comforting and can be shared in a social context with friends and family 😜
@@tanalincia6314 I love hummus, broccoli, all greens, beans, whole grains like pasta and bread and they’re pretty much my daily staples in addition to fruits 🤤
Same. However, people don’t believe me and come up with platitudes like it’s luck, or genetics or because I have too much caffeine (I haven’t had coffee in 10 years, but only drink 3 cups of green tea a day). I used to be overweight, and the cure is a very diciplined wfpb diet and daily running, swimming and walking instead of driving for my whole life. It’s not luck, it’s effort.
It is interesting to note that the "discoveries" we think we are making today were also made back in the 60's and 70's, and Prevention Magazine (before they became a commercial magazine full of ads) had many articles on fiber and diets. Burkitt (I don't remember his first name) used to be called "The Bran Man." Fiber cereals, plain edible fiber, and high fiber bread were all the rage, along with a high-fiber diet in general. I remember one of my teachers (I was taking night classes for my A.A. Degree) was sharing with the class how his daughter had lost so much weight on the high fiber diet. I think we probably all need reminding as things cycle back from the past, all the good ideas that got waylaid over decades, so we can put them back into our tools for good living.
I just started the Starch Solution diet so I’m happy to hear about this study. Unfortunately my weight hasn’t gone down yet, but it’s only been a week so we’ll see.
And I recall now, a phenomenon called something like the second meal effect: things produced from dietary fibre by bacteria in the colon work on the brain to lower appetite at the next meal. This was well explained here I mean in this video, and Dr. Michael Greger explained it too in a video with I think beans on the cover.
This drug is also in phase 3 trials for Alzheimer disease right now and that’s really exiting. What you’re saying about fiber and whole grains then also makes sense because those are emphasized in the Rush Institute recommended “MIND” diet for AD prevention.
Just made a soup/stew with a little bit of quinoa, moderate amounts of cut, small red and gold potatoes (I prefer purple, but they are hard to find of late), red lentils, 1 pea protein burger, broccoli, butternut squash, asparagus, kale, portabella mushroom, Italian seasoning, a Japanese sea vegetable based seasoning, some mushroom based seasoning, some miso, some garlic, a little apple cider vinegar, and some veggie Better Than Bullion seasoning. All cooked in a pressure cooker on soup setting. (I put only the Italian seasoning in at the beginning. All the other seasonings, which contain definite salt, I put in at the very end after the heat had been turned off, so as not to destroy nutrients). Made a bunch and filled up a couple of large canning jars. Super filling and satiating, and relatively low calorie.
Sounds absolutely delicious except I would have real pasture-raised beef or chicken or animal meat in mine but other than that I love your recipe. I find strict veganism utterly ridiculous but I wish you the best.
@@YourCapyFrenBigly_3DPipes1999 Most of the super foods i.e. extremely nutrient dense per weight, are plant foods (the list of them is way longer than the below category). With that said, there are some animal foods that are healthy in moderation and a few that could be considered super foods as well. Primarily organ meats from healthy animals, low fat goat, sheep, or A2 only casein cow milk based yogurt and kefir from healthy, well treated animals, chicken and duck egg yolks (but they can't be heated too much, it damages the cholesterol and makes it more toxic) from healthy and well treated animals, and wild sardines with bones/skin (especially the non canned versions, but canned is still pretty good all in all--though some folks are bothered by the high purine levels). With that said, you don't need any of these to be healthy. But in moderation, they certainly won't hurt. You don't ever want to over due long chain saturated fats (i.e. animal food based fats) more particularly. It has a scientific rap sheet longer than my arm. (That's why I specify low fat versions of goat/sheep/A2 only cow milk yogurt and kefir. Also, both pesticide toxin residues and hormones concentrate in the fat, so it makes sense to reduce the fat intake of these). While I eat mostly plant based (95 to 98 total %), I do occasionally eat sardines w/ bones/skin, egg yolks from healthy and well treated animals, and goat/sheep/A2 only cow yogurt/kefir from healthy and better treated animals. I feel *slightly* better when I incorporate these select non plant foods into my diet. As you can see, I wouldn't call self "vegan". But I do appreciate the vegan ethos and way of life, and I do think that a diet primarily of whole food plant foods is far healthier than one that is not. Just look at the Inuit and their lack of health and longevity to see what the opposite does. Then compare them to the 5 rare Blue Zone peoples/areas of the world where the people collectively are living significantly longer and healthier lives, and where centenarians are not rare, but almost common (this research btw, has been going on for decades now). They all have certain things in common diet and otherwise. Diet wise, they all eat a diet high in whole food plant foods, and meat consumption ranges from no to in between low-moderate. I try to not let subjective beliefs, feelings, opinions, etc guide me, but more objective and evidence based ones.
And on a spiritual/energetic/consciousness level, you will note that if you cut out all the heavier meats (especially pork and beef) that one starts to feel more intune, alive, balanced, and aware/awake. I stopped eating beef and pork when I was 16 after a few years of already meditating. I noticed definite, positive energetic shifts after that, and I became more acutely intuitive and perceptive. I then stopped eating all meat for a long time (about a decade) and I noticed some more shifts. The last 10 years, as mentioned above, I occasionally eat some wild fish (mostly sardines w/ bone/skin). This has not negatively impacted the above. Its the only meat that doesn't seem to that I have noticed. The issue with beef and especially pork is that unless the animals are very well treated and killed without knowing they are about to die, is a lot of fear energy builds up in them and permeates the meat. Fear energy is a very slow vibratory/negative energy and one that is hard on the human energy system. Easily imbalances it. When we eat their flesh, we intake that negative, slow vibratory energy. I guarantee you, go without pork, beef, venison, and chicken for a month, and stick to only some occasional wild caught, healthier fish like sardines, Wild Alaskan salmon/pollock/cod, Arctic Char, etc, you will notice definite positive changes energetically and awareness wise. By occasional, I mean no more than 3 total meals a week, so like every other day, one meal that has some select/healthier fish (not tuna, swordfish, etc). I know many people--vegans, vegetarians, pescatarians, and even some non versions of these, who have noticed similar things.
The higher you go up the evolutionary chain, the more complex and emotionally based the animals become. Fish do experience fear, but it is a more simple and automatic type reaction (like a pre-programmed response to danger) as compared to the abject emotionally based horror of say a pig, which is much more similar to how a human experiences fear in such extreme conditions of being attacked and killed. I think if you try this experiment, you will be pleasantly surprised. And after awhile, you won't miss the heavier, fear laden foods.
I’m doing Ozempic AND eating fiber, down 20 lbs! No nausea. I don’t pay $1,000 per month either! I pay no where near that figure. I’m happy with where I am. I’ve dealt with chronic pain for over 10 years and take pain meds. Ozempic has not helped with pain whatsoever. Thank you for this video, I was interested.
First time watching your channel. Interesting subject and lots of great content. I look forward to more of your videos. 43 years as vegan or vegetarian. I’m now ‘vegan for life’! ❤
This is amazing! I definitely think that my high fruit (high antioxidant, gut-friendly) plant-based diet has helped me kick some bad food addictions, including coffee, chocolate, and fried stuff. Thank you for this information!
after learning a lot about nutrition in general lately from various huberman lab podcast episodes, i started with time-restricted eating last year, lost about 4kg over a couple months. then after the episode on dr sonenburgs study on fiber and fermented foods impact on gut microbiota started making and eating a lot more fermented foods and increasing fiber intake, lost about 7kg more in the last 4 months and narrowed down the time-restricted feeding window because my satiety is just generally higher. so anecdotally, can totally confirm that a healthy amount of fiber in ones diet (along with other factors) slaps.
I was put on one of these drugs in this family. The doctor gave me the first dose in the office. I was told it was a new insulin. I didn't feel right about it. I looked it up at home. The side effects were horrifying. I have thyroid issues in my family. No one told me that's a huge problem with the drug. I wasn't told about the ultra restrictive diet and the kidney failure. I have kidney problems already. They should have never given me that drug for several reasons. I was afraid of my insulin, but that drug made it look like nothing. I threw out the sample kit and have not been back. I used to take herbs and supplements and food for medicine. I'm unemployed and had to stop because I can't afford. I have a government backed insurance and have to use whatever that will cover. They will not cover natural meds. I feel like a guinea pig. I'm being used for human trials. Im not being informed. I'm not being listened to. Because lab animals don't talk, do they? I want my natural meds back. I don't feel safe.
If you have diabetes please go back to the doctor your going to slowly die if you are not able to get it under control. If you have type 2 diabetes and they are giving you insulin that is usually one of the last things they give to people because that means pills are not helping your blood sugar stay in control. In the meantime try your best to lose weight if you are overweight and do light strength training or cardio after a meal it helps remove the glycogen that is stored in your muscles so that the sugar you just ate can be stored in the muscles helping lower blood sugar. If you are doing exercise remember to check your blood sugar levels to make sure they do not go to low. I repeat please go back to your doctor. I know that it is scary but they do care and they are trying to help you.
I tried Wegovy I couldn’t get past the first month. My issue to mental hunger, I don’t really get hungry as much as just want to eat. And sweet drinks are my other weakness.
Thank you for this video. I have been considering trying Ozempic when it becomes more readily available in Australia later this year. I've been obese most of my adult life. Stress and menopause have contributed to this, I believe. I quit alcohol 18 months ago, with no resultant weight loss. I went WFPB in January this year, after 4 months I hit a plateau at 3 kg weight loss. In the last month I've cleaned up my diet more, avoiding all added sugar. I exercise regularly. Obesity can be very difficult to shift. Unfortunately, doctors keep telling me, "eat less, exercise more", despite that not working. Thanks again Mic, I very much appreciate your work.
Eat only whole foods. No sugar. No oil, little nuts and seeds (little whole fat). Low Protein just enough. Beans, Potatoes, sweet potatoes, veggies, fruits, lentils, Barley is great. Complex whole Carbs should be the focus. Fat is easily stored as fat. Energy from Carbs is stored in the muscles and only in super high excess in a high energy consuming process transferd into fat.
Depends on what type of working out you do. Weightlifting is best for weight loss. Warm up with like 5 mins of a jog but that's it. Make sure you burn more calories than you take in that day.
@@xperience-evolutionThe ‘diet’ you just recommended would KILL me. As in, literally. Beans act like broken glass in my gut. The amount of incorrect information you’ve declared as ‘good’ in your statement is boggling- and I’m speaking as someone who in the past few years has lost over 50 kg. ‘Fat is easily stored as fat’? How about *differentiating between GOOD and BAD fats* for a start? I eat a vegan keto, gf and grain free diet, which means I eat a TON of ‘fats’ but they’re GOOD fats and my body stays burning fat instead of demanding sugars as fuel. Our bodies are also designed to *convert* fats into different metabolites, which means we don’t go into hypoglycaemia on a low carb diet. Crappy carbs make me sick and fat, I’ve proven it to myself enough- I have to be VERY careful even with plant based carbs and have to take supplements that stimulate my bile in order to avoid the pain and bloating that comes from eating high carb veggies. Barley is great *if your individual body can handle grains* . Not great advice at all.
Here’s my advice as someone who has lost over 50kg and is still losing as I restore my body health- learn to eat intuitively, *for your OWN body* , rather than listening to the ‘one size fits all’ crowd. Grains, gluten and beans are a disaster for me and for many others, as an example, so it really is about listening to your OWN body. Keep a detailed diary of what and when you eat, list all physical and other symptoms (great way of finding out what exactly might be contributing to the pain/brain fog/symptoms you might be experiencing); I bought a low cost blood sugar meter and tracked what foods would cause my insulin spikes and what wouldn’t, because when individuals are talking about *obesity* they’re frequently dealing with INSULIN RESISTANCE, which needs a whole long term plan in order to reverse. I totally recommend finding out about insulin resistance so that you can figure out if it’s something you’re experiencing- if it IS it won’t matter HOW little you eat or how low your calories go, you’ll still be either maintaining your weight or even putting weight on. I no longer have insulin resistance because I adopted the fasting lifestyle- I eat in a 2-4 hour window every day and fast the rest of the time with plenty of water (usually with supplements in it). I built up to this kind of fasting protocol but fasting is something it turns out my body really, really loves. I take nutritional supplements because being unhealthy for a long period of time resulted in some very deep deficiencies (and a body that couldn’t process nutrients very well) so I’m happy to supplement until it’s obvious that I don’t need them any more. I don’t rely on the medical system’s BS nutrient level ‘daily recommendations’ to tell me about my nutrients, I do ALL my own research and experimentation to discover what’s right *for me* . I also use muscle testing and have learned to observe myself closely to track if I’m doing well. Your body is unique- the reasons it does was it does will also be unique, so the best way to health is to spend the time figuring out what is right *for YOU* , which will mean changing some of your behaviours, learning about yourself and your body, what sort of diet is right for you, what sort of exercise. We are all unique, so it’s impossible for a ‘one size fits all’ approach to work- it’s even like that dumb myth ‘lower calories+exercise ALWAYS = weight loss’, which is great for the weight loss industry profits but is absolute rubbish when it comes to reality. You just need to find what’s right *for you* .
@@sconrey7PLEASE stop talking the ‘burn more calories’ myth, it’s been proven to be rubbish. Individuals can actually *stop* their weight loss by failing to take in enough calories- go watch Jason Fung and others who break the BS of this idea down perfectly. Metabolism is *crucial* and metabolism will continue to slow if the caloric intake is simply too low, or if the individual is combining calorie deficit with exercised induced caloric burning- essentially the metabolism will slow in order to preserve the calories so that the *vital functioning* will continue. It takes a LONG TIME to get to the point of prolonged starvation and our bodies have inbuilt mechanisms that will try to protect us from the effects of it, which includes slowing down the metabolism, which means burning fewer calories.
I have to admit - I do think that these GLP-1 medicines are game changers. Not only does it give a less invasive alternative to weight loss surgery, but it does help PCOS patients lose weight by managing insulin resistance. For PCOS patients, they’ll have to be on it for the long term because they’re like diabetics with insulin resistance. I do agree that berberine is NOT nature’s Ozempic. You can lose weight with berberine, but you have to take high dosages, AND there are still risks with it even though it’s “natural”. I like berberine for the other benefits (reduce fat in blood and liver is a big one). Regardless of whether a person uses a tool or not, a person MUST reduce their calories and change their diet in order to lose weight and maintain it, and they MUST exercise (include weight bearing exercises) to prevent muscle loss.
I recently purchased Berberine because I saw in a couple videos it can help with absorption of thyroid meds and vitamin d plus I heard it would help with insulin resistance which I do think I have due to having hashimotos do I know if it will work no but if it helps my body absorb my thyroid meds honestly it’s worth it to me cause my meds seem to not help and it’s frustrating
If you combine berberine with a good fiber source that will be an excellent way to cut down your weight. Because berberine is more of a probiotic than anything. And combining fiber with it can actually be really good for your gut microbiome
Maybe that's why beans and legume which have lots of fibres and starches are so good for weight loss. Mic, could you do a video of berberine as nature's PCSK9 inhibitor.
I can not control my glucose eating beans or legumes. I found out I was allergic to them. Ug. So, I eat grass fed meats, organic pasture eggs and lots of green, leafy veggies with healthy oils.
I'm on a starch based diet, week 4, lost 4 lbs, very slow but I'm post menopause hashi hypo so all things considered I'm sticking with it. I'm too scared of ozempic bcz risk of thyroid cancer.
My problem is not that eat because I am hungry, I eat because I like the taste of chocolate, icebreaker, creams… anything with pastry cream I will east at least 5… I am addicted to food, not related to hunger at all
If fiber and starch have a strong positive influence on GLP-1, should we consume a daily smoothie high in fiber with some starchy plant protein (e.g. pea protein) to achieve the Ozempic benefits? I think I will try it.
I think of the poor lady who appeared on AMC show about strange addictions because of her addiction to cheesy potatoes. The poor woman was shamed and bullied into changing her diet and while she could have swapped the cheese for something vegan, and added more vegetables, turns out she probably wasn't tragically unhealthy because of eating potatoes. I hope she's healthy and happy now.
Doesn't seem that strange. I watched a strange addictions episode where the woman would unzip lounge seat cushion covers wherever she's could and eat the disgusting yellowing filthy foam inside.
I tried ozempic and lost 38lbs. But after my insurance my copay was $240 a month. I finally got to where I just couldn’t afford it and gained it all back. I did have to take zofran with it to keep from throwing up. I may try going back to eating potatoes.
hi. I struggle with alcohol but I eat a wfpbd. i hope to be alcohol free sooner than later. addiction sucks. i went to the doctor last month and he said all my numbers were 'beautiful'. there must be something healing in the plants
The problem with obesity is caused by this fast-paced world and fast food world where people have gotten used to grabbing food rather than spending a little time and effort, cooking healthy meals. You can cook the big stuff like the lentils in advance and chop the veggies and all that on a Sunday - takes a couple hours only - and then you’ll have enough for the whole week if you don’t have time to do it every night. There are definitely ways to increase your health but it takes yes a little effort and it’s worth it. Thanks for your content.
You are the most amazing person on youtube! You are the no1 support on my vegan life with all these toxic stuff online attacking vegan diet and now you are the only ration voice that convinced me to not try oz without needing it (and potentially being harmful for me )😊 thanks
Curious....I get the same appetite suppression with Effexor, even at 37.5mg. I knew it was messing with my serotonin, and I thought that's why my hunger cues were off (as seritonin is made in the gut); but This may answer why I've lost weight...that isn't calorie input related. Nothing like force feeding one self lentil stew, while trying to not go into a crisis over stessors. Life is complicated. Thanks Mike, this was a well crafted video...got me all excited to see what's up. 🤘
Ozempic is like using a plastic cup to empty the water out of your sinking canoe because you really like the feeling of the fresh water flowing across your feet through the hole in the hull - so you definitely don’t want to fix the actual problem. You could - I don’t know - run in zone 2 three or four days per week and eat a whole foods vegan diet..
I cut out all processed foods and eat just whole plant food like potato’s, veg and fruit. Not hungry, don’t count calories, just eat when I am hungry. In 4 weeks lost 10lbs without crazy exercise. never had that before. Always need to supplement my eating choices with 2-4hrs of exercise. Not this time. Coming off slowly and easily.
In overweight individuals, average lean body mass loss due to calorie restriction is approx. 20-30% (doi: 10.3945/an.116.014506). In the Novo Nordisk substudy SUSTAIN 8 trial (doi: 10.1007/s00125-019-05065-8) semaglutide decreases lean body mass by approx. 40%. Technically, although muscle will be decreased on a diet, GLP-1s do affect body composition vs. calorie restriction, or in the words of Peter Attia, MD, Ozempic could make you 'fatter'. 5:44
Sounds like doctors should prescribe it with resistance training, not only would it surely keep more lean body mass, it would burn more calories and presumably lose more fat
@@chadwaters5894 I agree, but think the resistance training should be prescribed first, along with information regarding nutrition, without the medication. The issue is more likely that physicians build less rapport with their obese patients (doi: 10.1002/oby.20384) and that they spend less time with their heavier patients (doi: 10.1038/sj.ijo.0801681).
@brentedison yeah, that's not how it works though. In America at least, where you can take a drug and keep your crap habits. I'm in the minority here not wanting to take any drugs.
@@chadwaters5894 I'm well aware. According to CDC data, almost 25% of Americans take 5 or more prescription medications per day. The amount of patients who indicate, "Now that I take [insert drug name here], I'm healthy..." is disconcerting at best.
Ofc a vegan would conclude this. The question is how does protein fit into this, as we would like to look like males, healthy, and be healty at the same time time.
Ozempic is now sometimes being taken to reduce the effects of NASH aka fatty liver disease. Does a high fiber diet have any of the same effects as Ozempic in removing fatty infiltration from the liver?
Berberine actually works. Never made me sick and I highly recommend. Good luck finding non-gmo starches. Corn is damn near impossible to find. Our foods are not what they used to be. If you try this buy from your local farmers market where you can question the growers and bakers.
I was on that drug. Ate less, was a vegan at that time too.. my weight increased , my cholesterol increased , my blood sugar increased .. plus hours of meal preparation in kitchen and lots of dishes to wash. Even affected my mood? .. not good! …HAD TO STOP THIS LIFESTYLE I5 WAS KILLING ME ! Now I’m not using that drug, now on carnivore, I’m losing weight, my cholesterol going down so is blood sugar levels even though I haven’t used metformin for 5 months.. go figure . ?
15% of body weight over 16 months... If you weight 250 lbs that's like 0.5lb per week, which is perfectly reasonable. Now 85% of testers losing IS impressive.
interesting: in Keto-times and Low-Carb times (no starches-complex carbs-not enough fibre -too much fat) a drug becomes popular that mimics the affects of plants (GLP1). Perhaps keto and low-carb is not working as well as people expect?
I just recently tried berberine, I have never felt so sick from a supplement . Headache, nausea, dizziness, it took me 24 hours to recover and it screwed up my stomach for days. I wouldn't suggest it to anyone! Also turned my urine bright green. I thought I was getting the flu until my urine color tipped me off that it had to be the supplement. I would rather go hungry than feel that bad again. Check the side effects they are serious.
A few months ago I started to add barley to my oatmeal in the morning, I did start losing weight again, after months at the same weight 2 years after going plant based.
4:25 correlation ≠ causation… Being in a larger body does not cause disease. If it did, there would be no thin people with diabetes or heart disease, but there are. Factor in the social determinants of health before making assumptions. To not do so is 💩 science.
Seen people lose weight pretty big & quickly. However since they did not change their eating habits that’s beginning to slow & reverse. Versus changing to WFPB I eat more quantity, have more energy , sleep better , mood lift
If you are a type 2 diabetic and looking to have assistance to reduce your A1C and potentially reverse diabetes; talk to your doctor about going on a whole food, plant based diet. Along with the lowest dose of Ozembic 0.25! I started my WFPB Ozembic Journey in March 2023 and its now July 2023. In four months, I have already lowered my A1C from 9.5 to 5.5 and lost 14 lbs. I have not increased my Ozembic dosage and I dont intend to. I am hoping to get off of Ozembic before the new year and be at my target weight. But more importantly, i hope to have reversed my insulin resistance. In essence reversing my type 2 diabetes! So i no longer need the assistance of Ozembic. Continuing my WFPB diet with moderate exercise. ❤
the problem with these drugs aside from the side effects is how openly anyone can get this drug. My first 3 months at the weight loss facility I go to to get my semagluitide, I have consistently seen mothers and daughters who are taking the highest doses when they are MAYBE 10 pounds overweight. THIS IS NOT WHO THE DRUG IS INTENDED FOR. The drug is intended for those of us who have over consumption disorders and/or diabetes. I have been on semaglutide for 4 months now. I went from 397 to 356 in those 4 months. The fact that companies are giving this medication to people who simply need to stop drinking alcohol or stop drinking sugary drinks/ the 1000 calorie starbucks drink they get every morning DISGUSTS ME. why would you want to be on a medication like this unless you have to? the side effects I have had on this medication have been miserable, so I do not understand why someone would want it to simply lose 15 pounds.
Been vegan for 15 years, eating basically the opposite of a WF diet for many years. Was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes a month ago and started both on ozempic, an exercise boost and a zero oil WFPB diet. Honestly, if it wasn't for the medication I wouldn't have made it. The combo saved my life, i dropped from a 14 mmol/L glucose to a consistent 4.5~5.1, dropped 15 pounds and feel like all my health problems disappeared. I give more credit to the diet and exercise boost (already had a pretty active life working in a kitchen and commuting by bike daily), but it was a major reality check on something you always said: being plant-based doesn't make you automatically healthy and oil is indeed a vegan killer.
I don't know your particular situation but missing out on healthy fats could be one reason why you developed an issue. The body needs healthy fats, whether they're from animal or plant sources. The more the better.
Thank you for another informative video, Michael(Mic) 2:43 and there it is . All they are doing is going on a starvation diet so of course they will lose healthy lean tissue. They just cannot wrap their minds around the idea that hormone levels dictate tissue mass and distribution. In part because many steroid users gaslight the non users about how hormones work. If people followed a WFPB diet they can recover hormone levels almost as well as if on HRT and get similar automatic changes in looks but with added muscle instead of just wasting away like on Ozempic. People who go on steroids tend to gain weight while losing body fat at the same time on their first cycle - it is all a matter of hormones. If you need to inject once a week with ozempic - may as well go for HRT. And before HRT try lifestyle intervention ... Professional body builders put on muscle during their stage prep of 6-12 weeks and that is also when they take the most drugs in the year too. The general masses are told it is the opposite by people like Arnold and it destroys their ability to comprehend fat-loss. Like the reason cardio helps with weight loss is it improves hormone functioning - even affecting hunger signalling hormones. Also boosts our whole endocrine system and growth hormone , etc. It is not just a calorie deficit thing. Triathletes look amazing without starving ... it's the hormone signalling and enabling lifestyle. If the body knows it has to run - it will try to reduce total mass while trying to get tougher. Body is an intelligent but dumb survivor.
I'm curious about this bile acid effects. I had my gall bladder removed years ago and I, now, follow a wfpb lifestyle but I struggle to lose weight. Maybe I need to be taking probiotics more often?
Instead of telling patients to lose weight, I’d love to see doctors prescribe “three servings of legumes, daily.” I think it would be much more doable for patients.
Doubt it, legumes overall taste terrible without adding things to them which counteract the "healthy" nature of them. So folks would definitely not adhere to that.
@@tanalincia6314 I Have you ever tried hummus? What about daal? Chilli? You can season legumes with spices instead of salt, which actually promotes their overall health benefit, and these dishes taste delicious. And doctors ought to give their patients the benefit of the doubt. Maybe not everyone would be willing to add certain foods to their diets, but by withholding that advice, doctors don’t even give their patients a chance.
Hi Mike! Great video as always !!! Ive been a viewer of yours for a long time! I have a question for you because i value your opinion, ive been watching a lot of raw vegan videos and they say its best not to eat cooked whole starches, what is your opinion on raw veganism ? Thanks in advance, maybe you already have a video on that, ill try to look for that
I think strict veganism is ridiculous and it'll never be for me, I'm a very happy meat-loving omnivore, but eating a high plant-based diet certainly is wise, and that's something I intend to keep doing.
Its just crazy for me that people turn first to drugs instead of trying getting their life together with their own strength ... so sad how many people are willing to give up so easially instead of ighting. The side effects are the first things that turns me off on doing drugs and so many dont care about them
For weightloss, yes. However, for out of control bloodsugars and high A1C, it's better to have even the lowest dose of Ozembic, combined with a plant based diet, so you aren't risking serious medical complications. That's been my experience 😉
The indigestion and reflux from Wegovy was brutal but I was able to bring it under control using omeprazole. And I use a fiber supplement and periodic Miralax to manage the constipation. But I am (and had been) also eating a complex carb diet in combination with lean protein (mainly fish). When I was younger, healthy eating and exercise were always enough to lose weight but losing weight in my 50s was proving damn near impossible. I think the key point is one you hinted at early in the video: compared to obesity, the risks of semaglutide are modest. I would never discourage the use of Nature's Ozempic but combining that with Wegovy is probably a reasonable approach for those who are staring diabetes in the face. My hope is that, once I am out of the danger zone, I can get off the Wegovy and just rely on Nature's Ozempic. For now, though, Wegovy is working, and I am grateful that it has turned the tide on a long and largely unsuccessful battle to drop the pounds by diet and exercise alone. Of course, this is just my experience and, so, isn't actual data. Still, I'd be careful about throwing shade on what, for many, will be a life-saving medication.
i think maybe ozempic could be helpful as a beginning sort of thing maybe? to help get food addictions and such under control. and then slowly wean people off onto healthier alternatives with less fat and more of those whole starches. i went vegan 6, going on 7 years ago. i started as a junk-food vegan, but just not being able to eat literally everything caused me to go from 250 to 230. then at the beginning of 2021, 2 years ago, my new years resolution was to include dr greger's daily dozen, one month at a time. to go from what i thought would be the easiest one of the dozen to tackle and saving the hardest for last. and i made myself take it slow, because i wanted it to be a permanent dietary change. didn't restrict or cut anything out, and i lost maybe 5 lbs that year. but once i had incorporated all of the daily dozen and was used to eating it everyday, i went from that 230 down to 165 in about 6 months. again, no restriction! no calorie counting or macro counting or anything. and i've maintained that for a year, but it's still technically overweight for my height, so i'm now including dr greger's 21 tweaks (which includes using more whole fiber sources rather then ones that have been pre-ground, like your findings suggest), and so far i'm down to 161, another 4lbs. still a little bit to go, but i wish everyone knew you don't have to stay the way you've always been. it's possible to make health-directed decisions and have it work out for you. if you make it this far, i also want to say thank you. you are actually the youtuber that got me to be vegan. i was originally looking at videos that made fun of vegans, and then found your videos on the health benefits of veganism. and the environmental benefits. and so i watched cowspiracy and overnight went vegan. i was so shocked by how everything i've ever seen most vegan channels like this and dr gregers say is accompanied by studies, put up directly on the screen so you can see the full context and everything. it's safe to say that if i hadn't found this channel, i might not even be 250lbs, but closer to 300. it's work like this that really changed my life.

Not all heroes wear capes...lol!
Went plant based about 2 months ago after my A1c crept up. Now down almost 20 lbs, no inflammation and no expensive injectables. Only side effects are more money, more energy, better sleep, better stamina, and on the downside at this rate I’ll need a new wardrobe soon. 😢
Wow great work. Took me almost 3 years to lose 20 pounds on an improving WFPB diet.
Congrats!

Ceylon cinnamon
This is great info, thank you!
Flax seeds and products derived from it apparently lower testosterone significantly, so I'd stay away tbh.
Great information!! Thank you for sharing ❤
Yeah, it's putting on oil, butter, sour cream, etc. that makes potatoes unhealthy.
Potatoes are a superfood, also full of antioxidants.

Enjoy!

Let's not forget it was supposed to be for diabetics. Once it was blasted as a weight loss drug my sister has not been able to afford it.
i have ADHD and developed a binge eating problem.
Which ADHD meds are you on?
Thank you for doing this. My financial situation is currently negative (nothing too dramatic though, I'll manage) your channel though deserves financial awarding. I hope your finances are good. Given the inconvenience, exorbitant expense, side effects, and scarcity, I'll stick with my two weight loss programs:
1. Wait For Summer Diet
2. No Junk Food Diet
The Wait For Summer Diet consists of waiting for the warmer months to arrive.
Thanks for sticking to the science and for standing up to the naysayers.
same - I thought it was going to be that as I learned that from Dr Gregor too
I tried Ozempic for a month and actually gained weight.
People who don't have Diabeties are having issues once they stop taking it. It's messing up their hormones.

Why do y’all take meds that the gov is pushing? Have we learned nothing from the C jab?

Excellent info! Other advantages of fiber over injectable is that fiber foods taste ridiculously delicious, wholesome, are satisfying, comforting and can be shared in a social context with friends and family 😜
Food over drugs any day.
Im addicted to frozen grapes right now! 😊
Calling fiber rich foods "satisfying" and "delicious" is a stretch outside of like...fruit lol.
@@tanalincia6314 I love hummus, broccoli, all greens, beans, whole grains like pasta and bread and they’re pretty much my daily staples in addition to fruits 🤤
@@acc426 Wish I had such limited taste buds to enjoy such bland food.
"Fibre face isn't a thing" 🤣
But that's a lie. Fibre puts a smile on my face every time.
Whenever someone asks me what I do to maintain my figure, I attribute it to a plant-based diet.
Omg, did he invent oat bran or crackling oat bran? Those were staples in my house!
Overweight vegan here, i tried semiglutide but didn't like that it was a lifetime commitment. Really I'm just commenting for the algorithm.

I loved this video. Vegans ftw! Potatoes have been keeping me skinny my whole life
This drug is also in phase 3 trials for Alzheimer disease right now and that’s really exiting. What you’re saying about fiber and whole grains then also makes sense because those are emphasized in the Rush Institute recommended “MIND” diet for AD prevention.
What drug is in phase 3 trials for Alzheimer’s? And what does that mean?
@@lghop82 The drug this video talked about.

Healthy pasture-raised or wild animal products are some of the most nutrient-rich foods out there. just something for you to consider
This was great. Another win for whole starchy foods, lol.
I’m doing Ozempic AND eating fiber, down 20 lbs! No nausea. I don’t pay $1,000 per month either! I pay no where near that figure. I’m happy with where I am. Oh my gosh I just love eating berries but I try not to go crazy because of the carbs. How do you do it?
after learning a lot about nutrition in general lately from various huberman lab podcast episodes, i started with time-restricted eating last year, lost about 4kg over a couple months. then after the episode on dr sonenburgs study on fiber and fermented foods impact on gut microbiota started making and eating a lot more fermented foods and increasing fiber intake, lost about 7kg more in the last 4 months and narrowed down the time-restricted feeding window because my satiety is just generally higher. so anecdotally, can totally confirm that a healthy amount of fiber in ones diet (along with other factors) slaps.
Eat whole plant foods. Beans, lentils, fruits, vegetables, walnuts etc.
All pretty cheap and great for the body
I'm very sorry that happened to you, that sounds horrific. Thank you for your comment though spreading awareness
1 apple a day keeps the doctor in prison, where he belongs
You do realize insulin is naturally created in our body right? What's so scary about that...

My problem is not that eat because I am hungry, I eat because I like the taste of chocolate, icebreaker, creams… anything with pastry cream I will east at least 5… I am addicted to food, not related to hunger at all
Love this, started the starch solution several weeks ago and feel so much better
If fiber and starch have a strong positive influence on GLP-1, should we consume a daily smoothie high in fiber with some starchy plant protein (e.g. pea protein) to achieve the Ozempic benefits? I think I will try it.
This video is incredible. My god I cannot wait until you write a book!!!
So why didn’t high carb, plant based work for me? Weight gain over nine months.. carbs making me crave more carbs. Developing thyroid growth 🙁

Great Video !!! Everyone wants a quick fix. It's not hard to eat and be full & satisfied on a high starch plant based diet
I prefer high animal protein high healthy fat high plant-based but carb limited diet but to each their own
The problem with obesity is caused by this fast-paced world and fast food world where people have gotten used to grabbing food rather than spending a little time and effort, cooking healthy meals.

Great video! Love this slant on Ozempic phenomenon.

Ofc a vegan would conclude this. The question is how does protein fit into this, as we would like to look like males, healthy, and be healty at the same time time.

When you buy a bag of potatoes, bake them and refrigerate them.
Why bake and refrigerate?
Thank you for another informative video, Michael(Mic)
2:43 and there it is .
You need to eat fish. Or at least omega-3 rich algae oil that includes both DHA and EPA.
Hi Mike! Great video as always !!! Ive been a viewer of yours for a long time! I have a question for you because i value your opinion, ive been watching a lot of raw vegan videos and they say its best not to eat cooked whole starches, what is your opinion on raw veganism ? Thanks in advance, maybe you already have a video on that, ill try to look for that
This is just another really good video. We'll done Mic!
I think strict veganism is ridiculous and it'll never be for me, I'm a very happy meat-loving omnivore, but eating a high plant-based diet certainly is wise, and that's something I intend to keep doing.
Ur the truth mic
Mic you have nailed this video!
I'm sure Dr. McDougall will love this. The starch solution.
I think kale is my favorite vegetable all year round. In the fall and winter months, I like to cook collards, turnip and mustard greens.
8:30 natures ozempic
