I had a couple of terrible bouts with kidney stones in 2009. Then I had another couple in 2017. It wasn’t until much later I realized something. In the interim period I had moved to a house that had a lemon tree that produced big, beautiful, fantastic lemons. I squeezed them in water, on fish, anything I could think of. For 8 years, no kidney stones. After leaving that house, I became prone to them again. Most pain I have ever felt in my life. I started regularly drinking water with lemon again. Been stone free ever since. Okay, could be coincidence. But I can tell you, I’m not waiting for someone to do a randomized, double blind, placebo controlled, crossover study to prove it works. My real life results are good enough for me.
Thanks For the info. I too have a very tough problem with kidney stones and looking for something to give a hand with them. I have found many real studies that show positive benefits from lemon juice. @ronlearn You need to first know what type of stone you make. Lemon juice is a urinary alkalinizer and can help deter calcium oxalate and uric acid stones but cause other types to grow.

This post is worth its weight in gold for anyone listening because I swear I have noticed that pomelos or som o as they call them in Thailand are the best way to hydrate. I don’t care what anyone says, doctors or otherwise. Nobody knows what they are talking about. Pomelos have given me the best hydration, way better than drinking straight loads of water. I know for a fact this works and am actually a very surprised pro athletes etc seem like all they do is drink loads of water which I do not believe is the best way to hydrate… it seems like it is but it’s not.
Good video as always...lots of angles: 1) Fact, using a couple good squirts of "Real Lemon" bottled juice in 8oz which I drink throughout the day totally helps my digestion, and 2) I have a pressing pain right in my sternum...so it is not my liver...and with exercise AND keeping drinking lemon water seems to alleviate that. Yes, there is the hypochondriac and placebo effect....and exercise of course does good....but when I take out lemon juice it does seem to make my health turn to pain.

I love to put half a wedge in my thermal mug of ice water. Mostly because it gives it just a slight lemon flavor and makes it more refreshing. And I figured what ever benefits I’m getting won’t hurt. I have heard that lemon in water helps your body absorb the water better. I didn’t hear that mentioned in your video, have you heard this?
I make a hot drink of wedge of lemon, a cinnamon stick and sometimes a dribble of honey in a thermos with hot water. Makes me drink more water and if you like cinnamon it’s really good! Plus the health benefits of the 4 ingredients is a positive, as minor as they might be. 😊

I drink it in the morning 1/2 lemon with a glass of hot-warm water for about a year now. I also have 15ml of evoo before I drink the water. I find as soon as I finish I have to go to the toilet. I can vouch for that but I don't really see any improvements.
I read that it is really important to wash the lemon before adding a slice to a drink. It’s to remove whatever might be on it from growing, shipping etc. (also, did the person at the bar who cut them wash hands first?)Now I can’t order it that way - I only do it if I’ve washed the lemon myself. Probably over careful, but I just can’t do it.
My city Tap water tastes gross, I always add a slice of lemon. We are very lucky to have a Meyer lemon tree in the garden, I love it! I squeeze them and pour into ice cubes, then grab ice cubes during the winter months, to marinate any protein, make salad dressing etc. it’s been wonderful.
I wash lemons then slice them in half, place them in zip freezer bags. They seem to be juicier after freezing them. I just take out what I need and put them in a bag in the fridge. Every morning I juice lemon with hot water and have first thing with a straw. Plus a c vinegar followed by a pint of water. Gives my lazy bowel a kick start. Also eat a-lot of fish so I squeeze lemon on . Very healthy and seems to suit me.
I saw on the internet (the best source for everything! LOL!) that it helps with helping to clear out fatty liver. Here's hoping it is at least partially true!!!

Hello from the Northern California Coast!👋 You guys mentioned putting lemon in the Coke & maybe lime in the Pepsi, but you totally forgot to put the lime in the coconut…and call me ( meaning you, the doctor😊) in the morning. I thought for SURE you’d use that one, it’s so your style! Thanks for doing this channel, I really appreciate that you share your expertise & experience with all of us. I’m an RN & I think that one of the greatest gifts that medical folks can give their patients is knowledge! Knowing how our bodies work helps us to understand how to better care for ourselves. For example… a simple explanation of how oxygen is transported around the body & WHY it’s so important can give someone REAL incentive to get more aerobic exercise! Understanding exactly how the human body processes carbohydrates & sugar can perhaps motivate someone to reduce their sugar consumption. I know I sound like a nerd, but even after 40 +years of working in healthcare, I STILL get excited about the anatomy & physiology of the human body! I think it’s very much akin to magic that our bodies are able to do what they do. Think about it, it’s really, truly AMAZING! Thanks again for doing this YT channel, it’s a generous gift to us all!🫶😊
I'm wondering if lime water will give the same benefits. Although I love lemon, I find that the older I get, I don't like it in water or unsweet tea any more. Thanks in advance for your advice/opinion.

I drink one to two mugs of hot water with a slice of lemon in it before having my first cup of coffee so that the coffee doesn’t dehydrate me too much. The lemon gives the semblance of a “drink” rather than just water and being hot (just out of the Kerrigan machine) makes me sip rather than gulp. So healthy choices, but not magic!
And i am also a hemodialysis patient and actually it made my skin turn orange even though its a lemon..i like to cook with lemons though they are very good for that..and just because its a lemon doesnt mean it has to be the holy grail of pH foods..it all depends on how much lemon was squeezed into the water at one time..did you use too much too little..maybe dont use them first thing in the a.m. or it could be more acidic on the inside?
I drink 1/2 squeeze lemon and 2 tablespoons of apple cider vinegar on warm water before breakfast 4x a week and I lost 5 kilograms in 4 months but I also cut all sugars in my diet except fruits I eat 3x a day and 3 vegetables with protein daily! 👍❤️ I’m happy as I don’t put any more weight- stayed this weight I was aiming for without excercise except at work 3x a week- I’m a nurse 👩⚕️

I know for a fact this works and am actually a very surprised pro athletes etc seem like all they do is drink loads of water which I do not believe is the best way to hydrate… it seems like it is but it’s not.
Thanks for sharing. Very cool!
Thanks for the information❤
Great advice thank you both and God bless you
Very welcome
Love and respect for both of you❤
Good video as always...lots of angles:
1) Fact, using a couple good squirts of "Real Lemon" bottled juice in 8oz which I drink throughout the day totally helps my digestion, and
2) I have a pressing pain right in my sternum...so it is not my liver...and with exercise AND keeping drinking lemon water seems to alleviate that.
Yes, there is the hypochondriac and placebo effect....and exercise of course does good....but when I take out lemon juice it does seem to make my health turn to pain.
Dont touch theottled lemon juice, it’s artificial! No matter what the label says.
I only drink water, so I added a little lemon to it it's probably nice once in a while. I think I've heard about it for weight los, but of cours, it didn't do anything. I love lemon on my fish
That's for the info. I like y'all sitting down. It's much more intimate and somehow easier to listen to.
Thanks for the balanced information and advice. It will help me to make better choices and to continue with some good habits that I already have.
My endocrinologist recommend a whole lemon or lime juice to help prevent another kidneystone. She wasn't confident it would definitely work but was confident that it wouldn't hurt like a prescription medication might. Like the docs said; anything that helps pump the fluids
My kidney stones are uric acid, not oxylate. So until they've caught and tested one, you're guessing.
Cranberry juice has been long suggested as a way to cleanse the kidneys. Crystallized citric acid might also work.
@@msr1116Your kidneys and liver are self-cleansing organs. Cranberry juice can cause kidney stones because it's high in vitamin C. Citric acid can help deter some types of stones but cause others.
Lemon juice is a urinary alkalinizer (raises the pH). It can help deter calcium oxalate and uric acid stones but cause other types to grow. So you need to get a stone analyzed or do a 24-hour urine test to see what's causing them.
Until then make sure you're drinking enough water *regularly* throughout the day: you need to keep the urine diluted of stone-causing substances and flush the crystals that could become stones.
@@elaineharley5501 .... I never know whom to believe because there's always conflicting information in circulation.
What about as a liver cleanser and adrenal gland recovery?
Your kidneys and bladder are self-cleansing organs. Aim for a healthy diet and make sure you're getting enough water regularly over the day.
I add a little lemon juice to my water to make water better tasting. I start using a straw.
Good information. You two always cut to the chase. I appreciate it!
I put a whole lemon in a vita mix blender with a little bit of water and mix it up to the consistency of apple sauce, and put a couple tablespoons in a glass of water .
Interesting!
I got hooked on lemon water when I was having gallbladder issues. Lemon has emulsifiers in it which aids in digestion after you've had your gallbladder taken out. My go to drink is one lemon, one lime, two capfulls of apple cider vinegar, a little maple syrup, and a touch of salt in 20oz of water.
I am a 65 year old male and a hardcore cyclist., who occasional gets cramping in the quad/hamstrings after a workout. I have discovered that a couple of TBS of lemon juice diluted in a liter of water almost immediately stops cramping. People I have told about this have similar experiences. Do you have any explanation for this?
You're rehydrating hence the relief. 🙂
It absolutely healed my liver, I did it for a month and my liver enzymes were absolutely reduced, and shocked my doctor. He asked if I quit alcohol and I told him no. Which I had not. There is no question that it was the correlate.
Was that just with lemon water m8?
Dr. Z, please expand on what you said about difficulty getting iron in your body without animal products. Thank you, an Ethical Vegetarian for 58 years
Sorry simply speaking to the point that plant based iron is much more poorly absorbed. Not that you can’t meet your needs but need to be a little more intentional than the meat eaters. Dr Weening is plant based
@@TalkingWithDocs Thx for the reply, Dr. Z. I don't want people to think you can't get the nutrition you need from a plant based diet. Good job reducing soda. It's hard. I probably drink 12 ounces of diet cola every day. And thumbs up, Dr. Weening. I've been veganish since I was 11. 58 years!!!
I have a slice of lemon in my iced water with Splenda with stevia but usually at restaurants for a light healthy taste and alternative to what they have to offer. My childhood neighborhood play buddies used to eat lemon and the rind.
I just tossed my supply of Truvia (stevia) due to the recent info re: ERYTHRITOL ... on stroke and cardiac connections! Seems the first ingredient on Truvia is this product ... grrrr . . . look it up on the internet . . . :>)
Lemon 🍋, hubby's a believer and I love it in my hair! 😊
Great job we need this a rational approach in stead of self serving nonsense
Love you 2 thanks for being you and helping me and others out. You’re the best . 😊
My kidnet doctor told me to keep hydrated and drink lemon water in the morning, i havent had a stone sine 2020 ,and yes they told me to stay awy from high oscilates foods, ie; tea ,dark cola, spinach, cruncher chips
That’s awesome
Interesting effect on simple carbohydrates.
Thanks for another great video! I love lemons.🍋I normally drink Fiji water every day and unsweetened ice tea. But, I do love lemonade, lemon pie, lemon bars, lemon cookies etc. But I eat them only once in a while. I did find Lemon Kit Kat Candy Bar. Limited edition. It was good. 😊 🍋💛🇺🇸❤️
Im prone to kidney stones, my Urologist recommended half a lemon sqeezed into a glass of water every morning before you eat/drink anything else, so far so good!
What about adding lemon to food, like fish, for example? any good effects?
Best docs ever🎉
I like lemon in my water, it tastes good and I drink more water. I also like it on veggies and fish.
Sounds great!
Interesting, I put a few drops in my water just to give it a hint of flavour, I use it to replace any other liquid like pop, OJ and other unhealthy but tasty beverages. But I will try and use it sparingly moving forward...thanks for the info!!
World according to moi: Lemon water ought to be tepid, not cold or iced according to Ayurvedic practices. Also a pinch of Hemilayan salt for electrolytes but what do I know, I’m so fat. Lemon water can really stress your tooth enamel. Looking good docs!
We have not heard of this but hey it gets you to drink more which is key.
I boil water cut up lemons(2) and ginger root. Put them in the boiling water and let it ferment in the fridge. Cool it then drink a full glass every day.
I drink it in the morning
1/2 lemon with a glass of hot-warm water for about a year now. I also have 15ml of evoo before I drink the water. I find as soon as I finish I have to go to the toilet. I can vouch for that but I don't really see any improvements.
I drink it all day. Not sure if it helps anything but lets hope so!
Thank you much. Love the fragrance of lemon yet never was a fan of lemon water. Don’t even like it on my fish. Well, didn’t miss out much.
My city Tap water tastes gross, I always add a slice of lemon. We are very lucky to have a Meyer lemon tree in the garden, I love it! I squeeze them and pour into ice cubes, then grab ice cubes during the winter months,
to marinate any protein, make salad dressing etc. it’s been wonderful.
Get a LIFESTRAW water pitcher❤
You two are so wonderfull. Thank you so much 4 the video..❤😊hello from Austria
Love it
I saw on the internet (the best source for everything! LOL!) that it helps with helping to clear out fatty liver. Here's hoping it is at least partially true!!!
I drink lemon water (3 tablespoons) in cup of hot water every morning. I use concentrated lemon juice out of bottle. Is this as good as fresh squeezed lemon juice? I had a kidney stone in 2020 and haven’t had a problem since then
Regarding what temperature of water to consume. Some say not to drink cold drinks with high fat meals as it has an effect on digestion.
Thanks again for doing this YT channel, it’s a generous gift to us all!🫶😊
Will this still work by adding lemon to hibiscus tea?
I'm wondering if lime water will give the same benefits. Although I love lemon, I find that the older I get, I don't like it in water or unsweet tea any more. Thanks in advance for your advice/opinion.
I prefer calling it “water lemon” 💧🍋 since water is main ingredient
Lemon water refers to lemon-flavored water. Grammatically speaking, a “water lemon” would refer to a type of water-flavored lemon.
Sqeezing lol.
@@caroldawson3193
"sneezing" or "squeezing?" 😂
Pretty much the only thing I drink is water (no coffee or soda). When it's really hot outside I drink a glass of lemon water, it just cuts the thirst a bit and I find it refreshing.
Very nice
Please do a video on whether or not one should use weighted vest, belt, wristbands, and/or anklebands when walking, jogging, running, bicycling, etc. to increase one's cardio work-out. If we should use them, how to do them properly. Maybe bring in a physical therapist to chat about this with you two.
Love lemon water, makes water taste better. Hot lemon water for sore throat soothing or in a cup of hot tea, or ice tea, very good in summer. No sugar, taste the tea flavor better😊😊😊😊
Thanks again guys, enjoy your delivery style and knowledge that you share. I'm surprised you didn't mention lemon on pizza as mitigating the negative effects of eating too much pizza... 😆😜
The pH is likely consistent throughout.
My sister has always said this lemon water scheme is a joke. Thanks.👍⭐️
I like it with vodka!!!!
I gave up up soft drinks 11 years ago, just drink home made Soda water these days sometimes I add lemon juice just or taste
What does acidic foods do to the body?
I was hoping that you would address the more deliberate pratice of making lemon tea with fresh lemons, often combined with ginger root. This was a bit glib. I would like to know if heating the lemons and ginger brings out the beneficial ingredients, or if the heat would degrade the beneficial ingredients.
Hi Doc's .. lov your videos ...I do the lemon water in the morning it seems to help my digestion , but , the Vitamin C that helps iron absorption really piqued my interest ... I'm borderline anemic I get 5 infusions per year .. usually over a two week time frame ... I am going to combine vitamin C with my grilled liver and onions now .. hopefully it helps .. 🙂
So I was recently diagnosed with gastroparesis and heard drinking lemon ginger tea helps with digestion. Is this true?
