I took berberine to lower A1c, it worked well but long term use lowered my B12 leading to b12 deficiency anemia. My doctor was not aware of this risk when taking Berberine. If you take berberine have your B12 monitored and supplement as needed.

Liposomal berberine is typically Berberine HCl encased in some sort of lipid - which supposedly improves it's bioavailability. If you watched this video, you know what I think about bioavailability and berberine. I haven't seen any studies that compare Berberine HCl with Liposomal Berberine HCl so I can't say if these claims are accurate.
Berberine has absolutely no effect on my 25 year diagnosis of T2 diabetes! I had tests for LADA 3 years ago which came back negative! I am slim, on low carb diet for at least 3 years, and walk 4 or 5 miles each day! And I do resistance exercise 2 or 3 time per week! I experimented with zero medication with zero carbs for 2 or 3 days but could not get my bs below 8 mm/ltr. I conclude that I am not T2 or LADA, so what am I? I guess my problem is genetic or associated with defective microbiome but how the hell can I prove this? Talking to my Clinic is like screaming at a brick wall! Has anyone out there got the same issues? Please respond if you have same problem, thanks!
You could do a Functional Microbiome Analysis to see how the gut and microbiome could be impacting blood sugars - here's the one I like: www.drkateld.com/gi-map-test-info
Hi I just started taking Berberine in the last week. It has really lowered my blood sugar but I’m having some diarrhea. I think I’ll go down to one 500mg pill a day until I get use to it. Wondering if the diarrhea will rectify itself?
Dr. Kate, I have recently learned I have a high lipoprotein a score, a narrowed aorta and have experienced a blood clot in my leg. I don't want to take statins or bloodthinners and aspirin gave me a stomach ache. I find flushing Niacin helpful and wonder if alternating that with berberine might be a good idea. Any thoughts?
Berberine Phytosome falls into the same category for me as dihydroberberine - the claim that it increases bioavailability doesn't necessarily mean that it has better outcomes. And I couldn't find any clinical studies that compare Berberine Phytosome to Berberine HCl - so I'm sticking with the one with more research evidence.
I just tried Dihydroberberine from Vinatrua Supplements brand, is it better than normal Berberine supplement. I heard that this Dihydroberberine is effective 5 times more than Berberine
How will the bioavailability of Berberin be affected after gastric bypass surgery, and for that matter any other supplements I choose to take to improve my gut micro biome? Thanks 😊
In general, gastric bypass decreases absorption of micronutrients, but Berberine does a lot of it's work in the colon, interacting with the microbiome and in theory that would be less affected.
Berberine is giving me bad heart burn and acid reflex. This is pre existing too. Will taking this supplement continue to make it worse ? Should i stop taking it
If you have bacterial imbalances in the gut, Berberine can cause some of the "bad bugs" to die and the side effects can be heartburn. It may be prudent to resolve your gut issues before continuing with Berberine.

From what I've researched, the phytosome part of berberine phytosome is a phospholipid matrix that is added to berberine extract that supposedly enhances absorption. I have not found any studies that compare Berberine HCl with Berberine phytosome, so it's unclear if these claims are accurate.

If it has Berberine HCL it's the same thing I'm talking about (depending on the quality of the supplement, since some brands don't actually contain what they put on the label 🙄)
The Cancer Research Institutes have conflicting information about the interaction of Berberine and Anastrozole. There are no direct comparisons about Anastrozole, they describe more negative effects on patients who are taking chemotherapy or other medications, but it is about Anastrozole with Berberine that they say “not sufficiently studied.” What do you say about this, because you must have more information than I can find. Thank you.
Cancer medications need to be efficiently detoxified and eliminated from the body in order to minimize side effects and damage - and anything that interferes with that detox process is technically an interaction. That said, I have worked with clients in the past who are undergoing treatment with drugs like Anastrozole who benefit from nutraceuticals like Berberine with no negative impact or interactions. Like you said, there are not any studies that specifically assess Anastrozole and Berberine - so we need to draw our own conclusions.
All medications are removed from the body by the liver after a certain time at different rates, depending on a bunch of factors. Supplements like Berberine and many many others can impact how quickly or effectively your body handles these drugs - which is typically a good thing, but it's important to factor in especially in cases of cancer.
I was told by my primary care MD that it’s probably not a good idea for me to take Berberine with the medications I take (i.e., Nebivolol for heart palpitations and Sertraline for anxiety), but my doc wasn’t very familiar with Berberine, so I wanted to find out your thoughts on whether or not it would be safe for me to take Berberine while on these meds. (I also take Estroven Weight Management, magnesium lycinate, vitamin D, and vitamin C supplements and Nature’s Way probiotics pearls). Thanks, in advance, for the advice!
Because I don't know all the circumstances that would cause your doctor to advise against taking Berberine, I can't say if it's safe for sure in your case - but I would ask your doctor to be more specific about WHY they don't think it's a good idea. I have had clients on similar medications who did well with Berberine - so it would be appropriate for you to push back and get a good explanation before giving up on it!
@@DrKateLyzengaDean Here’s what my doctor said: ‘From what I have found Berberine can lower BP and sometimes interact with Sertraline. If you do take it I would take the lowest dose possible. Berberine is typically not FDA regulated so there is limited information on what it interacts with.’
I just ordered Bernini with Ceylon cinnamon, 1200 mg made from the root. There are some made with bark. I chose the root version. Cinnamon supposed to enhance absorption. Is this true? Also I bought the 2nd best Berberine in a “5 best on the market. It is being shipped from China from Amazon. Now I’m worried since I found this out. It is from nutriflair company. Any commentary on this is appreciated.
Just listened to a study on the amt of berberine in some that have been advertised and they are lying about the amt they are actually putting in their products. Nutraflair was one that had deceptive amts. I will be changing my brand.

I don't take either form but am considering taking it. Does anyone know why most research has been done on the HCL version? I'm suspect when research is done mainly on one version because I wonder if the researchers have a vested interest in seeing one version succeed. I know about ethics in research but I also know that we are all biased even if we think we aren't.
Ive read that berberine can negatively impact iron absorption...is this true in your opinion? If so, would either form of berberine have less impact on iron absorption? TIA
I took 1200 mg berberine with a meal for over a week and was fine. Then one day I took it and within an hr I got nauseous and vomited until I was shaking. I thought I had the flu. About 4 days later, I tried it again and it happened again. I was afraid to try it again. Maybe a lower dose?
This video is all about dihydroberberine - if you watch it, you'll see why the research doesn't actually support your statement about preventing GI symptoms and potency
Mustard is colored with tumeric and contains vinigar. Would that suffice on zn extreme budget? My dad used it extensively, never needed statins never had cancer or heart disease. He died at 95 much thanks to money hungry surgeon. Oops!
Unfortunately, the amount of berberine in the yellow mustard condiment is much lower than the doses needed to see a significant effect - according to the research. Probably not sufficient.
I have been taking Berberine HCL 1200 MG. For almost a month , I haven't change anything just to see , and I haven't lost a pound. My eating habits are bad meaning I don't eat hardly at all. I can't remember the last time I ate a full balanced meal. I don't eat fried foods , I don't eat large amount of foods infact it's the total opposite. However my down fall is sweets !!!! So , I know that's a problem not eating when I do it's sweets. However, I wanted to see if there were ANY changes with my cronic pain , inflammation and weight. So far I have noticed my pain levels ( I have Lupus, and a body full of osteoarthritis ) have gone down THANK GOD. However, I need to loose the weight. It's hard to do when I can barely walk. I'm going to give Berberine one more month..
I’ve always been a person who had a terrible addiction to sweets. I was diagnosed with diabetes in February with an A1c of 10.9. Since then I went to a low-carb diet that’s on its way to keto and now I am not controlled by sweets. I also make, low-carb desserts and eat them regularly but I can pass them if I want to. There’s some awesome keto baking cookbooks available on Amazon and there’s also some great fast and easy sweets recipes available freely on the Internet.
Come on, Doc. There’s no difference between 1% and 5% bioavailability? How can you dismiss a 500% difference with a straight face? You lost credibility there.
The point is that the increased bioavailability hasn't actually been shown in the research to improve outcomes - it's theoretical. And Berberine HCl has clinical studies showing efficacy despite very low bioavailability, so the evidence at this time suggests that the increase in bioavailability from 1% to 5% is unlikely to make a significant difference in outcomes. We'll see if more research proves this out or not!
That's because Berberine acts on the microbiome - which is usually dysbiotic in the case of IBD and IBS. Time to dig deeper and get the gut sorted out! You'll likely solve any blood sugar issues and weight loss resistance by getting to the root 👍🏼

Not everybody with Lada has known antiboties. So you can still have Lada without the 4 of 5 antibodies that are known.
Hi I just started taking Berberine in the last week. It has really lowered my blood sugar but I’m having some diarrhea. I think I’ll go down to one 500mg pill a day until I get use to it. Wondering if the diarrhea will rectify itself?
Good idea - should help
What about Berberine Phytosome?
Most of the time I see a combination therapy with Berberine HCl and phytosome - will have to do some more digging on this!
What about berberine phytosome? That's what I have been taking.
Usually I suggest Berberine HCl plus phytosome if you're going to go that route - again, because of the reasons in this video 👍🏼
While I can't speak to your specific situation, Berberine is very helpful for preserving and supporting healthy cardiovascular function!
@DrKateLyzengaDean thanks
I need to know if I can take it with serrapeptase…or do I need to take them at separate times.
I would suggest taking it at separate times
@@DrKateLyzengaDean Thanks. That’s what I figured.
Why no evaluation of Berberine Phytosome form?🤔
Berberine Phytosome falls into the same category for me as dihydroberberine - the claim that it increases bioavailability doesn't necessarily mean that it has better outcomes. And I couldn't find any clinical studies that compare Berberine Phytosome to Berberine HCl - so I'm sticking with the one with more research evidence.
Is it safe to take it in powdered form?
Theoretically, yes - it will probably taste awful 😆
I just tried Dihydroberberine from Vinatrua Supplements brand, is it better than normal Berberine supplement. I heard that this Dihydroberberine is effective 5 times more than Berberine
This video is about the difference between Dihydroberberine and Berberine HCl - if you watch the whole thing, you'll find my answer to your question 😁
@@DrKateLyzengaDean Great. I just changed my supplement from HCL Berberine to Dihydroberberine. Still wait to see more result later.
❤❤🎉🎉thank you
You're so welcome! Thanks for watching 🧡

You're welcome!
Hello Dr. Kate. I am trying to lose weight, and my question is, could I take Berberine along with Glucomannan? New Subbie!
Yep! Be careful with the Glucomannan - it can cause some serious bloating!
great video! is it berberine safe for kidney transplant people? I don't have diabetes or high blood pressure.
Post-transplant physiology is TRICKY - I'd run it past your GP before starting it - just to be sure.
I heard that after a month we need to take breake from berberine what is your opinion ?
I don't agree with that, no. Berberine can be used long-term.
Dropped 69 pts ldl cholesterol in 4mos of 1500mg per day. If I cut back or stop will level rise
Great work! I can't say for sure that it will revert back - lots of factors in play there.
Can you take Berberine with Hypertension meds???
Yes, as long as you're regularly checking your blood pressure!
Thank you for answering. I appreciate it very much.
@@DrKateLyzengaDean will it help lower the blood pressure?
Can you take metformin and berberine…
You can - as long as you're regularly monitoring your blood sugars to make sure they don't dip too low
I do...
I have pre existing heart burn and acid reflex. Do you think its not related to bactetial imbalance?@DrKateLyzengaDean
Probably! I'd do a functional stool analysis if I were you: www.drkateld.com/gi-map-test-info

Can i take Berberine every day?
Hi there! I can't speak to your personal situation, but people generally see positive results if they take berberine daily 🧡
What is Berberine Phytosome?
From what I've researched, the phytosome part of berberine phytosome is a phospholipid matrix that is added to berberine extract that supposedly enhances absorption. I have not found any studies that compare Berberine HCl with Berberine phytosome, so it's unclear if these claims are accurate.

I have a bottle of Berberine that is a HCL BLEND of Berberine aristata (bark) and Berberine HCL. Is this different from the info you just shared?
If it has Berberine HCL it's the same thing I'm talking about (depending on the quality of the supplement, since some brands don't actually contain what they put on the label 🙄)
I just started taking beta blockers - it’s been two weeks. So can I take Bernadine?
Berberine can be fine to take with beta blockers

When taking Berberine or any other detox meds does this means the meds your taking ( you need ) is being removed from the body ?
@@DrKateLyzengaDean
Here’s what my doctor said:
‘From what I have found Berberine can lower BP and sometimes interact with Sertraline.

I do not personally recommend buying supplements via Amazon - you just can't be sure of what you're actually getting, unfortunately.
@@DrKateLyzengaDean thnx for replying!
Just listened to a study on the amt of berberine in some that have been advertised and they are lying about the amt they are actually putting in their products. Nutraflair was one that had deceptive amts. I will be changing my brand.

I tried Berberine for a few weeks but was so bloated and began gaining weight instead of losing. What could be the cause of that?

I don't take either form but am considering taking it. Does anyone know why most research has been done on the HCL version? I'm suspect when research is done mainly on one version because I wonder if the researchers have a vested interest in seeing one version succeed. I know about ethics in research but I also know that we are all biased even if we think we aren't.
Berberine HCl has been around much longer and it's not a proprietary form, so it's better studied.
Hi Dr Kate, what about Berberine with Ceylon Cinnamon?
I've gotten a few questions on berberine and cinnamon - I will have to do some research and see about this combo!
IS IT GOOD FOR GETTING YOUR SUGER LEVEL DOWN PLEASE
YES
Is BERBERINE PHYTOSOME a good choice?
The research points to Berberine HCL as being the best choice 👍🏼
I’ve seen several videos by Dr’s that look at the actual research and the research shows very little evidence of reducing blood sugar
Interesting - I also reference actual research in this video and my other video about Berberine - ua-cam.com/video/CtCLyZgEY2c/v-deo.html
The problem is that Berberine gives me constipation.
Some folks who have other gut issues have side effects from Berberine - you could try lowering the dose or getting a higher-quality supplement?
My stomach couldn't tolerate the dihydraberberine
Digestive symptoms that show up when starting Berberine can often point to dysbiosis - dose and quality of supplementation also plays a role
Ive read that berberine can negatively impact iron absorption...is this true in your opinion? If so, would either form of berberine have less impact on iron absorption?

I have not seen any research evidence for this - but I'll have a look and see what I can find!

Can you take berberine if your not a diabetic and want to lose weight?
Yep!
I do think a lower dose would help! And maybe try a different time of day?
Dihydro-Berberine prevents GI symptoms and is more potent
This video is all about dihydroberberine - if you watch it, you'll see why the research doesn't actually support your statement about preventing GI symptoms and potency

I have read to take 250 mg
No sound

why 'Berberine' is so-bitter?
Lots of plant extracts are bitter!
@@DrKateLyzengaDean he never had cancer or heart disease.
Glad you're getting some inflammatory relief! Keep working on those sweets - you can do it!

It made me super sick .
Some folks who have other gut issues have side effects from Berberine - you could try lowering the dose or getting a higher-quality supplement?
@@DrKateLyzengaDean Thank you for your response I appreciated.
Be warned, if you have IBD or IBS Berberine can cause extreme digestive pain or discomfort. Been there, not going there again.
That's because Berberine acts on the microbiome - which is usually dysbiotic in the case of IBD and IBS. Time to dig deeper and get the gut sorted out! You'll likely solve any blood sugar issues and weight loss resistance by getting to the root 👍🏼
