Paint Along Watercolor Turtle - Painted Willow Art

- Paint a whimsical, watercolor turtle with me! Viewers have asked for it, so I've created a paint-along video of a watercolor turtle with some whimsical shell accents. In this video, we take a look at how to break down a subject to draw into basic shapes to take some of the drawing fear out of the process, we look at layering wet watercolors for more dimension, and as always - doodles!!! This video is longer than most of mine because I really wanted to talk about the drawing part. Remember though, you don't have to complete the project in one sitting, work on it a little here and there and come back to it as you have time. Enjoy! ✏️ Supplies Needed ✏️
I have only provided specific links for the things that can't be found at any art/craft supply store, and I do not get commission on anything I recommend - these are just the supplies I love.
Paper: In this video I use Arches 300 lb. watercolor block and I seriously LOVE it!
Pens: In this video, I use a Uni-ball Eye Fine black pen and a Posca White Paint Pen. I love Sharpies as well, but generally any waterfast pen will work for the linework and doodles (Sakura Pigma Micron pens are excellent and don't smear with water)
Watercolor: My most used sets are Josie Lewis and Art Philosophy Co. Watercolor Confections sets, however in this video I used Daniel Smith watercolors

Tape: I used Scotch Wall Safe Tape, but Washi tape works well too and is generally available at any art/craft store, but you can use painter's tape as well - just be careful when removing that because it can rip the paper.

@@PaintedWillowArt we had a heat wave like no other here 2 weeks ago. It was 109. and broke our temperature records everywhere. Many people died because of it, over 200 just in BC. Thankfully it is back to our normals of mid 80"s. Stay cool!!
@@wendehinkelman2403 That's terrible! I have a friend in Ontario and he was telling me about the heat they had there as well - crazy hot! At least we're used to this kind of heat....just not for this long at one time.

Have you done a whimsical dinosaur. I need to do one for grandson, and I'm not an artist but can follow along with your wonderful tutorials and make it look half way arties. Love your whimsical animals. etc. Thank you for breaking the drawings down for us non artist.....

Thanks Susan! Josie 's set is excellent! I use hers alot. I often also use the Art Philosophy set called Tropicals. I only have a handful of Daniel Smith colors, but I mix from those for a bigger color range. The Daniel Smith colors I have are Opera Pink, Quinacridone Red, Hansa Yelliw Medium, Sap Green, Phthalo Turquoise ,Phthalo Blue (RS), Quinacridone Purple, Burnt Umber and Chinese White.

thank you, awesome tutorial. how do you like 300lb . ever tried Arches 140 hot pressed?
Thanks! I love 300 lb paper when I'm doing a really water heavy painting. I do go back & forth between that & 140 lb, depending on what I'm doing. Arches cold pressed is my fav at either weight. I've used Arches hot pressed, and while it's great if you're going to be drawing on top because it's so smooth, I still prefer the cold pressed across the board. Have you used the hot pressed?

what type of pens/paint pens are you using?, love what your doing
Hi there! Thanks so much! I always talk about the materials at the beginning of the project in the video and I put them in the description of the video as well so people have it for reference. In this video, I'm using Daniel Smith watercolors, the black pen is a Uniball Eye Fine pen and a Posca white paint pen.
Wie man wieder erkennen kann sind die weißen Uni ball stifte richtig Scheiße. Hier in dem Bild bewahrheitet sich das wieder.
Deswegen werde ich sie niewieder kaufen. Danke für diese Bestätigung. Jemand hat geschrieben es sei die Schuld der Verbraucher. Das hat mich unfassbar wütend gemacht.
Von wegen Verbraucher schuld.
Weiße Kugelschreiber sind nicht so toll. Nicht die Schuld des Verbrauchers. Ich bevorzuge Posca Farbstifte. Sie machen ein viel besseres Zeichen. Ich hoffe, Google hat das richtig übersetzt.
