Thank you for this. Not being very artistic I decided to try this. I drew out the cats, erasing them a few times and they looked an ugly mess by the time they were drawn but I thought I would paint them anyways and keep on going. So I got out my watercolours and painted them. Still looked like a hot mess then I outlined them and put on their faces and they came to life. I'm so glad I finshed and they turned out awesome!! Sometimes you just have to trust the process!! Thank you so much for all of your Paint Alongs!
I'm so happy you trusted the process and kept going. Sometimes that "ugly middle" stage is hard to get past. But isn't it amazing how a little outline or enhancement can change the whole thing? I love that! Thanks for watching & painting along.💖💖💖
Hi Dawn, love how you smile and wave at us. Painting cats again. This time, I'm using new paper....may have to use Crayola crayons instead of watercolors. Have a good day...12:00 pm here on the space coast of FL.
I love the whimsical side of life. It always puts a smile on my face. It's also my favorite style to paint in! I love cats and find them whimisical anyhow.Mine makes me laugh all of the time with all of his jokes and silliness!😺😻♥️
We are thrilled you are here showing us how to do these cute animals and helping us all relax for a few minutes. Love your style of teaching….so easy to understand.
I really enjoyed this video! I subscribed to your channel. I did see that you haven't done any videos for almost a year. I know it must be hard to keep up with doing videos & living your life! Hoping you are well & will do more videos. People need this kind of joy in their life!

I look at this and I think it would make a great get well card from a group. Looks like someone laying down an looking up at all the cats. I would stamp “Heard you were sick…”
I like my cat but I love your cats too!! Great fun with cats. I have a Cornish Rex he was on his leash today and still jumped over the porch fence and caught a chipmunk we rescued it out of Pi’s mouth and it ran away. Luckily Pi only has two teeth. Ha! 😅
Thank you for the demo. I appreciate all of the instructional comments you've taken the time to included with your demonstrations. I'm definitely loving your whimsical technique....learning a new style is so inspiring to me. Thanks you
I'm so pleased you're enjoying the videos. My whole goal is to get people creating & hopefully see that it isn't as hard as many would think. Thanks for being here and watching/painting along!💜💜💜
I just finished painting these adorable cats! Thank you so much for the GREAT tutorial! The cats were easy and fun to do. I wish I could post a pic of mine, but I don't think I can.
Thank you for bringing a smile to my face😊! I enjoy your videos so much! Im new to watercolor panting even though I’ve wanted to use this medium for years! I just didn’t think I had the talent. I am now embracing my desire and having fun! I love most things whimsical and so your style is perfect for me. I love your encouragement, ideas and suggestions. Thank you so very much... you are a joy 🤗
New to water colour! Love your style and everything about your channel -I might be late but I'm so glad that I found you. You are inspirational and fun! going to get creative with whimsical cats! total cat lady and I love them. ME-WOW!
Hi Katrina! That's my daughter's name.😁😁 So happy you're enjoying the videos and welcome to the fun world of whimsical watercolor. Thanks for watching!💜💜💜
Thank you so much for all you do for us. I am 67 and have never painted till I was 11 but you have made me pick up paints and give it a go. Love the doodle style as I am not a drawer.
Thank you. I really enjoyed this tutorial, I have started painting again after years of not doing it. This whimsical style is definitely my favourite of all. I paint cards, and no matter who receives them, young or old, they love it. I will be following you for more ideas. You make it look so easy.
Thank you so much, Dawn! I love cats, and the whimsical style is my favorite. Will definitely be trying this. Thank you for sharing your talents and skills with us!
It's my first time visiting your chanel and I really enjoyed painting along with the whimsical cats. I plan on doing a series of them. Can't wait to watch other videos you have too.
These cuts cats are such fun, I am going to make some birthday cards and thank you cards for my cat mad daughter-in-law. Thank you for showing us them 😊
These are so cute. I did my Christmas "stay at home gnome" based on your gnome couple painting, to my peeps last Christmas to inform them we were not assembling this year. They were so adorable and they added a bit of levity to the health challenge we have all been facing. I enjoy your creativity very much.ty
I've been practicing drawing the circle of cats for about 3wks. I only began with water colors on July 1! I'm a true beginner! Tonight I cut my 9x9 square and drew out the pattern. I'm here to tell ya, it's not easy! It took me just over 2 1/5hrs to get my kitty cats painted. I'll wait until tomorrow to do the faces and doodles. So far I've painted some whimsy birds and trees and tonite the the cats. This is NOT an easy task!
Great explanations. You can “pounce” with a kneads or eraser to lighten pencil lines. A lot of people are too heavy handed with rubber erasers and it abrades the paper.
Very interesting video. I’m still afraid to go all out water color, lol, and just dibble and dabble with it. Going to have to give this a try because I love me some cats ❤️❤️❤️
Thanks Collette! I first tried watercolor in high school HATED it. Didn't pick it up again for about 30 yrs! I finally realized I just had to let go of some control where watercolor is concerned and I've been in love with ever since. That's part of the reason I started doing these videos. I wanted fun projects to let people play with watercolor without getting too serious about it and maybe, just maybe, someone else might fall in love too.❤️
Thank you for getting me through the pandemic winter months with your whimsical art tutorials. Such fun, and my pictures brought some cheer to my extended family as well. Love your ideas. I’ve done almost all of them , some several different sizes.
LOL 😂 mine looked like rabbits at first, but as I kept on I had me some kitty cats. Your so much fun in painting and I’m truly learning so, so much! Love this of course like all you do. Catch you on the next one….doodles 😊🎨💜
Thanks! On this one, I didn't end up putting anything in the middle but you could put doodles, words - pretty much anything you want. You could even cut out someone's picture and glue it on in the center!😁💙💙💙
Thanks Constance! I'm glad you enjoyed it, and I'm glad the ideas are flowing! Woohoo! I'd rather have more ideas than time ... than the other way around.😁😁👍👍

Great video..you have a great ability to teach others.. You are so talented!! TFS ❤️❤️
Thanks Sharon - you're so kind.❤️❤️
I absolutely love the stuff you make. I have just bought some watercolors, but we aren't seeing eye to eye. I seem to get it too wet or too dry, and my paints laugh at me.
Mine do the same sometimes! 😂😂😂😂 The best thing I can tell you is just use the paints. Practice painting just splotches of color with different amounts of water. Each manufacturer...and each paint color...is different. You can best get to know their personalities by just using them a lot. Even paper can make a difference. Maybe even making notes like "(color name) works best with less water" or "(color name) spreads & mixes better with a little more water, but it granuates". I have tons of scraps and notes on all the colors I use. They seem to be friendlier and laugh at me less when I take the time to get to know them by just using them lots - and you don't have e to have a specific project going. Just make splotches, test the amount of water and play with how they blend with other colors. And give up all hope of making them play nice for a bit. Let them be their unruly selves and see if that helps.
aww i love this, thank you i am definitely going to try this
Yay! Thank you! Would love.yo hear how you do with it. Thanks for watching.❤❤
Funny, I drew cats, painted them, but forgot their tails, now I have ghosts!!!!
I love this video and can’t wait to give it a try. Can you tell me what kind of board your paper was taped to? I’ve been trying to figure out what’s best to use.
Hi Michele! I think in this video I had it taped to a glass cutting board. Those really are my favs. However, I often use a canvas board as well. Both are nice and portable so I can paint wherever I want, but they still provide support. And you can get both in different sizes to fit the paper you use. If you are going to paint with a TON of water, I'd recommend the cutting board, because canvas board is paper backed, so it can warp with lots of water.
Just for ease of illustration, this is what canvas boards are: www.amazon.com/PHOENIX-Painting-Canvas-Panel-Boards/dp/B07BNHHM98/ref=sr_1_5?dchild=1&keywords=canvas+board&qid=1617401573&sr=8-5

Thanks Louise! I'm glad you're enjoying. No sloths yet, but that's a good one to add to the list. I'll have a bunch of new videos in a few weeks! Thanks for being here!❤️
My husband titled this, “the last thing the crazy cat lady sees before she passes out.”
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! I suppose it would look like that! Love it! :)
❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Thank you Denise!💜
I have made a couple of videos, and to reduce the shaking of the camera, I attach the holder to something other than my table.
I've been experimenting with that....it's just me and my cell phone, so I'll get it figured out. Thanks for the suggestion!
I can’t believe how many times you wiped the paper with your hand before starting. Why so much fondling of the paper?
Does it matter?
No…. I was just having a moment of being curious. But I do love your style and work. ❤❤❤. Thank you for sharing your gift ❤
@infiniteawareness2698 Honestly - It's just me & my cell phone camera recording these. Idea in mind but no script. It may just have been that I was thinking while talking & that's just what my hand did. 🤷♀️. Sorry if my reply felt snarky. I (and all people putting stuff out publicly) get some of the strangest interactions sometimes. The word "fondling" may have made me a little defensive because I've had some of those strange interactions start with words like that. Perfectly valid word, but also one that gets used maliciously sometimes. Forgive me for being defensive if your question was honest. 🤎
I wish you could get the camera closer when sketching...thank you
Will try to do that next time. Thank you!
My mind is trying to design a whimsical dog…. Not happening so far! If you have an idea I would love it and would send you the finished picture!
Send me your email to dawn @ paintedwillowart.com & I'll see if I can find an idea or two for you.😉
your camera isn't focusing the drawing
I am aware of that- thank you.😁 This video is from more than 2 years ago when I was new to video making. Newer videos no longer have that issue.
