- Paint along with me and make this soft, whimsical hot air balloon! In this video we take a look at using different paint techniques like watering down the paint, adding definition and dimension with different strengths of the same color; and of course, we add some doodles, because we all know I love a good doodle!
Video run time is about an hour, an by the end you'll have a completed painting of a hot air balloon.

✏️ Supplies Needed ✏️
I have only provided specific links for the things that can't be found at any art/craft supply store, and I do not get commission on anything I recommend - these are just the supplies I love.
Paper: I usually use Strathmore 400 acrylic paper, but for watercolor, any watercolor paper will work.
Pens: Love Sharpies, but generally any waterfast pen will work (Sakura Pigma Micron pens are excellent and don't smear with water). I've also discovered Pentel Uni-Ball Eye Fine Line Black (water resistant)
Watercolor: My most used sets are Josie Lewis and Art Philosophy Co. Watercolor Confections sets, however, I used some Daniel Smith paints in this video

Tape: I prefer Scotch Wall Safe Tape, but Washi tape 1" wide - works great too. You can use painter's tape or masking tape as well, but if you do, be sure to stick it to your shirt or pants first to make it a little less tacky. Otherwise it may rip your paper.
Eraser: Because people ask! :) I love the Pentel Hi-Polymer white erasers
White pens: Uni-Ball Signo Gel White or Pentel Milky Pop White or Posca White Paint Pen

I love your videos! The main reason is that the whimsical designs work so well for beginning watercolorists like me. "It doesn't need to be perfect" seems to me to be more true with designs like those you teach. My oops moments can be incorporated into the design without ruining my work. Perfect for someone like me -- a perfectionist who, if it isn't perfect, it's trash. I'm working through it and am not so hard on myself these days but people like you make it easier. Thank you!

It's a battle some days!🤣 I love helping people learn that imperfect doesn't mean bad - because it took me a long time to figure that out. Loved the balloon painting.I attended anArt HS then went to a Private school for Fashion Design.Sorry to say I didn’t put my talents to use after I got married. Now that I’m 75 I’ve been doodling in watercolors and love it. I like doodling so listing to you in this video you were like a physicist to me

What do you mean you can cover up with a mat if the paper rips
Hi Julie! A mat is basically a flat, cardboard "frame" that goes around the picture. You've seen framed photos or pictures that have (usually) a black or white border around the pic, then the frame? That border is a mat. You can buy them precut to fit your image at any art supply store or online (or if you're feeling really ambitious you can buy a cutter and make your own custom sizes). A mat covers up the edges of the paper and can hide rip marks.
