    I bought a brand new 1984 K2500 6.2 diesel off the lot in 1984. High Sierra, AM radio, no A/C, bench seat and rubber floor mats. Arctic White and Chesapeake Blue two-tone paint. It was a beauty, and seemed as big as a Mack Truck. My how things have changed. I still have it, using it now as my livestock water hauler. 95% rust free. Interior rough, but not totally trashed. I run AMSOIL synthetics in it with dual oil filter setup. Last year, I replaced the stock fuel filter with a 1990’s chevy diesel van setup…. new glow plugs… thermostat… starter… coolant overflow tank… etc.. Once a year I send an oil sample in for analysis. I run Power Service in every tank of fuel, and never, but never… slip it into gear before the engine is warm… summer or winter.

      That’s cool that you kept it all these years
      I’ve been thinking about amsoil but I haven’t switched yet everything I own leaks to much

    Just keep a good balancer on it. Do some DIY oil cooler lines. Make sure the pump timing is a tad advanced. do a hx35 with 6.5 manifolds and such if you want to turbo it. Slap a decent lift pump on it. Intercooler not really necessary. Don’t put a 6.5 GM-x turbo on it. With that gearing you will be missing out on the highway and have too high drive pressure. The mechanical IP’s take a little crack of the throttle to pop right off. DS4 fires with no throttle. I wouldn’t do half the mods you mentioned. That thing will run forever if you just leave it alone. Even N/A it can be a lot of fun. Just advance the timing a hare and get her breathing free. Set of straight pipes and a cold air intake. They are most happy when not tampered with. I had an 82 k20 all original and it ran awesome. 3.73 gears. I lifted it, put a H1c/H1E hybrid turbo on it and cranked the fuel. It was fun but I appreciated it more as original. I also had a 82 c10, again, true survivor. Bone stock and it ran good with a J code intake and bump of the fuel screw. I couldn’t leave well enough alone and dropped a complete 92 mechanical 6.5 in it that I freshened all up internally. Man that thing had boat loads of torque. I had a gm3 turbo and it suffered on the highway. Now I have a 95 k2500 burban with optimizer, hx35 16cm non gated, and 4.10s. It pulls very well all the way to the top. It will hit 18psi but I never let it eat like that for long. I have a low mile 93 6.5 setup and running on a stand for if I ever need it. My 4l80 shifts early too in the 95. If I ever have ds4 issues I will put the mechanical stuff from the 93 on the 95 and sort out a standalone controller for the 4l80. Or full manual valve body would be fun. I have an absolute love affair with these old GM diesels. So under rated. Just can’t be scared to turn a wrench.

      I agree with you my buddy actually gave me a Hx35 and I bought a slightly used set of Bosch marine injectors with those and a f code 6.5 intake it runs very good na

    Came back to see if you replied to my comment, turns out I guess I either didn't send it or ??? Who knows lol! Have a 84 K10 same colors. It'll be nice to follow along with your upgrades. I have a ORD steering box brace, new front leafs to go on here shortly, and I'll go with bilsteins for shocks I think. I really like the 63 too.

      Cool I might have to do the steering brace coming up I hadn’t even thought about it
      what kind of springs did you go with?
      Bilsteins are good.
      I hope to really knuckle down on the 63 this year

    Dr. RUST I would get Grey bottle with red cap brand Gunk Red Seal Engine Flush Fluid in crankcase run in dirty Engine Oil plus Filter in motor 10 minutes on low idle! Before changing Engine Oil, Oil Filter on ramps too do Engine Oil drain then put Oil pan plug in not tight up do oil filter changes too and put new in then drain plug again to to drain! Also when put new engine fluid and in fuel tank fuel get grey bottle of STP Total Treatment fuel injection and carb cleaner in fuel tank it could for gas or desiel fuel motors! Do STP Total Treatment fuel injection and carb cleaner in fuel tank every month too and keep fuel tank clean plus fresh too! Also get black bottle of Brand of WYNNES of Trans- Medic add to fluid and help fresh up transmission fully and keeping clean fluid too !

      I normally use marvel mystery oil in the oil when I flush one and diesel power service in the tank right now I think I have a small algae problem in the tank so I’ve been running bio kleen power service

    You never touch the throttle when starting a diesel engine

      Normally I would agree with you but this one likes you to crack the throttle otherwise you have to crank it quite a bit

      This one does funny stuff almost like at idle the fuel isn’t calibrated correctly

    • @stevemino142
      @stevemino142 Рік тому

      @@DrRust I have never owned a 6.2 diesel so I apologize if I sounded rude I was told that if you touch or give throttle at start up on a diesel it causes overfueling calibration is one of those things that stay correct for a while.. then one day it seems way out of line other than water or moisture in the fuel system is really I know with diesel engines that could cause problems

    • @DrRust
      @DrRust  Рік тому +1

      No problem I didn’t really take it that way it’s more like it doesn’t output enough fuel to start and it sometimes struggles to idle if the idle rpm isn’t high enough like it has a low rpm fuel cutout
