Ohhh… dreaming about this one, here in Poland. But, well, the winter time we get like -15/20 degrees (in the south) so I can’t imagine the daily procedure starting this guy up. Best wishes bro 😎
I'm a Ford guy, but when I learned about all the options that 82 and up sixth gen suburbans had with a good mpg 6.2 Detroit Diesel contracted motor I need one now. Nobody else made a full-sized, real steel body truck, with optional auto locking hubs and Eaton e locker in the rear and a Diesel. Front and rear ac, and the bench seats had their own heaters, military spec had Dana 60 front axles and 14 Bolt rear, BADASS
*suv, not truck. I can pile all my friends into it with their shit and go anywhere while it is cold as zombie sick outside because we all have our own heaters under the seats, I found all this out today.
Hello there, could I use a fragment of your video for my coldstarting compilation? Of course I will put a link to your original video in the description, increasing the original’s popularity too. Thanks a lot for you answer in advance :)
Low compression on 2 cylinders sholud not be an issue when U have manual glow plug controller and new glow plugs. Seems u had dead glow plugs. Mine started in the same way with broken glow plug controller and 5 dead glow plugs.
Man. Now that was a hard start! How many miles are on it? How low is the compression? I have owned a handful of 6.2 diesel. i like them for what they are a light duty diesel. Change the oil they last a long time..... Thanks for the vid!
Mr Diesel It had 267K on it when I sold it. Since this video I put in a manual controller and held the glows for 10-15 seconds at a time. made a heck of a difference. Don't know how low the compression was, but I know one cylinder was down enough that you'll hear it pick that low cylinder up about 1 minute after it starts in the video.. I like the old 6.2/6.5s too. Just couldn't justify keeping this one around for what I was offered for it.
Pretty impressive how the batteries could handle that at that low temperature with all that cranking. Negative 10 is cold for any diesel especially passenger diesels IDI diesels etc even my Volkswagen has big problems at that temperature and it's a 2003 and the glow plugs are fine.
I think there's a life lesson to be had here......don't buy a diesel if you ever intend to have to escape early in the morning after being discovered by a jealous husband........
I've had several 5.7's in cars and I still have my 6.2l in my K20. The 5.7's always started easily even in negative temperatures. The 6.2 on the other hand it a bit harder to start cold.
I I know he pumped it but the 6.2 has no cold start, even says in the manual 1/4 throttle to start when cold. Most of the ‘poor starting ‘ is people expecting them to start at 0 throttle idle. They aren’t good cold starters by any means but not as bad as some make out
@@kaulincurtis9665 I always start mine with full throttle and I have my glows to a switch so I leave it on until it starts it usually will fire before they get too hot and then I shut them off when I get it running
Never ever had a problem starting my 6.2's no one keeps shit working... need to do glow plugs, etc... cycle mine 2x, foot to the floor, fires up first or second crank...
I just bought an ‘88 Suburban 4x4 with 6.2L Diesel, very nice!

And now you let it sit for a few days to warm up 😎. Love the old 6.2s.

That thing sounds Amazing
Nothing quite like the sound of a General motors Detroit Diesel 6.2, cold starting and warming up.
I like the sound
Good song in the beginning
This would be the reason for block heaters
The bourbon saying give me some bourbon cause we're all drunk Americans now lol but nice bourbon man

Most guys don't no or can't replace the glow plugs and the controller has to work total cost to fix is 300 plus labour

Sounds like a compression issue
Cool old 6.2 do you still got it
I had one of those 6.2 engines at 1 time. It was useless in the cold
I think there's a life lesson to be had here......don't buy a diesel if you ever intend to have to escape early in the morning after being discovered by a jealous husband........
That hurts......
Заводится хорошо,но долго
my 5.7 Diesels start good. I want a 6.2, but I can't find any.
fastrace011 are u still looking for a 6.2

you need to keep it plugs in
Block heater!
Definitely!
Low compression sounds like the least of that motors worries. I'm worried about the No Oil flow sounding rattle thats happening
You must not know 6.2s... they clack pretty loudly no matter what, even louder when cold.
Not wonder I can't find a starter for my truck
Cranking begins at 1:48
how did you figure out the low compression
Brooke Woody test thru the glow plug hole
What was your right foot doing on the throttle?
+Gearhead Pressing it?
+J Dodgeaspen funny. I meant how many times lol

@@Bodgemiester on the sun visor of any 6.2 vehicle it says half throttle above freezing and full throttle below freezing.

Why do these cold start videos they never turn off there radios before they start cranking
what year is that truck?
Kevin Towler 91
Sounds like it needs glowplugs
It's prob 40 degrees f outside
This is why I would never do a diesel. It'd be a crap shoot between getting the truck running or having the battery go dead on me.
grantg98 This diesel is 30 years old
Never ever had a problem starting my 6.2's no one keeps shit working... need to do glow plugs, etc... cycle mine 2x, foot to the floor, fires up first or second crank...
That’s BS.
Fix the glow plugs, maintain the truck, & it’ll start fine.
Im thinking fuel delivery and glow plugs wou7ld have been a issue with this old girl :P
Why some people should stick to gas pots....
I don't think it would start with low compression even on 2 cylinder s
I’ve had a 6.2 run on 4 cylinders
Do a cummins swap
No
Keep it original
