Those old 454s are a beast. My step dad had an early 80s with no cat and I had a jetski that took 110 octane (low-lead) premixed fuel. Well, he ran that 2 stroke premixed 110 octane with lead and the thing just ran like nothing.
Also, welcome to the west coast/desert. You'll find lots of old vehicles with no rust. My 05 Sierra and 05 Ram both have no rust while others on the east coast have rotted rockers, cab corners, bedsides, etc.

1973 was the first year for those generation Chev & GMC Suburbans, K5 Blazers, Jimmys, pickups, & medium dutys. 1991 was the last year for them except for the regular cab pickups & medium dutys which were discontinued before that year. The half ton & three quarter ton regular cab pickups were the first to go in 1987, & the one ton regular cab pickups were next in line to go in 1989. It was either 1989 or 1990 when the medium dutys were discontinued.

Wow, it's amazing to see you taking on the challenge of restoring and fixing a classic car like the 1973 Chevy Suburban 454! It takes a lot of dedication, patience, and skill to bring an older vehicle back to life, and you should be proud of yourselves for taking on such a rewarding project.
As you work on restoring and fixing your Suburban, remember that every step you take is bringing you closer to your goal of a fully functional and beautiful vehicle. There may be times when the work feels overwhelming or frustrating, but keep pushing through and don't give up! You'll learn so much along the way and develop valuable skills that you can apply to future projects.
And when you finally get to drive your Suburban down the road, feeling the power of the engine and the wind in your hair, you'll know that all of your hard work was worth it. Keep up the great work and enjoy the journey!

Our '76 Chevy Blazer was crispy when we sold it in the 80's. Even with undercoating they were known for being rust prone. But I loved ours, too

What's the point of having a dog if you're not going to take them on vacation? They're your kids, your baby's, your love, I see you care about your kid, so thank you for including Gus, we the people love to see him as mush as possible

I have owned several Suburbans and currently own a 96 Big Block K20 Suburban, so I am interested in seeing you fix this and drive it back home. Chevys back then were so much easier to work on. Maybe you can find a junkyard intake? I enjoyed the episode.

I LOVE that you bring gus on all your adventures, whoever said to leave him home is wrong. He gets to see the world and be with his mom and dad all day. Way better than being without mom and dad for all that time. He loves it too, you can tell when your dog hates something and Gus man does NOT hate these adventures. Hes a good boy. Also, love these south west will it run and drive home adventures. I hope you do these a lot more in the future.

    Chris:
A few years back a guy from Reading was cleaning out his hunting cabin up in Potter or Sullivan county and he got the hantavirus. He died in the hospital. One of the problems is that it’s so rare east of the Mississippi that doctors don’t spot it right off.
Probably not much that you can do with Gus and the chickens but I had a dog get so sick that he had to overnight in the vet hospital. At the time we blamed it on eating Canada goose poop but we never were sure.

My family owned a '76 Blazer (basically the 2-door version of this beast). We may have just gotten a lemon, but it turned out to be the single worst auto purchase we ever made. Within a few months of buying it (new), the fuel pump went out, the underside started to rust out, the fuel gauge stopped working, the rear window crank mechanism broke... I could go on and on. To add insult to injury, it got about 10-12 mpg combined city/highway. By the time the car was less than three years old, it seemed like at least 2/3 of the engine had been replaced. I ended up selling the car for next to nothing and was just happy to be rid of it. That said, I did love the way the engine roared... when I could actually get the thing started.
