LesleytheBirdNerd Have you ever done a video on mockingbirds? I've seen them on the ground, running a few steps, then aggressively spreading their wings for a moment, pulling them back to their bodies, then repeating the process. I've always seem them through a window when they do this, so have not been able to see what other bird(s) they might have been doing this to impress. Any ideas what's going on here?
I have a pair in small bird house in my yard. They chased off a Carolina wren that has used it 2 years. They chase anything that comes close. They terrorize the yellow finch on the 1 feeder I have. The babies are hatched, and have a 8 foot drop, to the grass. Hoping for the best! Thanks for the great videos.
I live in a neighborhood so my backyard is not that big but I have a bluebird birdhouse just wondering if I put up a chickadee house about 30 feet away would that be sufficient space for them?
Wonderful when a bird trusts you enough to eat out of your hand but when they bring the fledglings to you...and trust you enough to take a family photo on your arm that is amazing!
1. Watching Black - capped Chickadees building a nest directly outside my new work-from-home quarantine window 2. Wearing Lesley's "Birds Make Me Happy" t-shirt 3. Check youtube and see this video has been released 4. Best day ever
Chickadees are one of my favorite birds. One always patiently waits on my head as I fill the bird feeders in my yard. Another flew into my house, looked around a bit, and then flew out. Such cute, intelligent creatures.
CG Account I just sort of talk to all of nature when I have the opportunity, I’ve noticed that they show themselves on the occasions when I’m around, they seem to know that they can trust me, although during these times they are scared off by all the people out getting some fresh air and exercise and exposure/reminders of what nature has to offer them and I understand that is in their best interest and don’t hold it against them when I’m out in nature myself. Thank You for your informational it is appreciated!
One summer, Black-capped Chickadees nested in a wren box right outside my home office window. I put cat hair brushed from our indoor cat in a suet cage, and the Chickadees used some. I watched daily, until the eight fat noisy chicks filled the box, and cat hair was sticking out the box seams! It was a treat to have that family so close.
I go to several different UA-cam channels for various content I find interesting (like most people I think). They have different overall audiences which is reflected in the comments sections. My point is that in my opinion, this channel has by far the most polite, well-spoken, good-humored, and frankly lovely people commenting on it. This makes the comments sections just as enjoyable to read through as the videos themselves are to watch. Thank you Ms. Lesley for all the effort you put in to your videos, and thanks to the rest of you for your cool stories and for zero of you being trolls.
Your spiritual giftedness is a beautiful blessing. Thank you for capturing and sharing this incredible circle of life. I will always save my cats fur now to assist with nest making! ❤
You gave me an idea! Also @Leslie: Years ago I had a tape called "Night in a Southern Swamp". Leslie just has to have hours of bird sounds- "Choir in a Northern Forest"??? I went to an illustration art school here in Atlanta, and I think that might make a nice DVD or 2!!! The front cover cvould be Tim or Tiny perched on her hand! 😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍
When I lived in North Carolina I had many birds come to my feeders. I loved the behavior of the Chickadees - rather than fight each other to get to the feeder, the chickadees would line up on the nearest tree limb, and go one by one to the feeder, always waiting until the one before him or her was finished. So polite, and such beautiful little birds!
Thanks Lesley for sharing. The memorial was very touching 💙 Im so glad you got to enjoy those two so much over the years. Thanks for all that you do, for the birds, and for us, your audience & fans 💙
Thank goodness for you, Lesley. You restore my faith that there are good, caring, thoughtful and compassionate people out there. Thank you for the well thought out narratives and the attention to detail while filming.
awww, Tiny and Tim. My most loved Chickadee, I named her 'Beaker'. We were buddies for 3 years. She was the first Dee to eat out of my hand and she decided that I belonged to her. She was funny and smart and brave. She would sit on my head, my shoulder, wherever she landed and have little chats with me. I fed her walnut and pecan pieces. Once I tried feeding her dried mealworms. She spat them out, gave me THAT look, bit my thumb and flew into the cedar hedge. I had to immediately apologize and offer her pecans. I looked like a mad woman talking to a hedge, I'm sure. She's been gone 2 years ago this month. I miss her.
Years ago a pair of parent birds were helping their fledgling learn to fly in our enclosed backyard, which must have seemed relatively free from danger... but they hadn't noticed our dog Friskie was playing in the yard, and the parent birds were obviously scared to see a _big, dangerous DOG_ menacing their nearly grownup child... But Friskie was having a good time, concentrating on her humans, and she never caught a clue that there were birds in her yard. She came in when we called her, and the birds were SO relieved. So were we. Love your videos and all the birds we hardly ever get to see on our own. You do such a great job!
Quite possibly my favorite little birds 💕 I love the relationship that you have with them. It made me sad to know that they are gone. Thank you for another lovely video.
I love chickadees so much. I can get them to land in my hand to eat, and they dont fly away when i go near them. One time a chickadee landed on my fishing rod while i was reeling in a trout and stayed on even as i moved the rod around. They are super cute and friendly, my favorite bird for sure. I love chipmunks too (sidenote).
Thank you for documenting these birds and your thoughts on their behavior. It helps me understand what they are saying/doing when the are in my backyard.
I've always had a special affection for the black capped chickadees. They're very prevalent here in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan and I never tire of seeing or watching them. I'll have to remember the tip about pet fur for next spring.
Oh Lesley your informative and beautifully filmed videos calm , and strengthen my resolve that better days are near. Thank you and our feathered friend's . 😃 ❤ 🐦
Thank you for sharing this beautiful video... I learned so much in a short time... and I am sorry for the loss of those sweet babies... I know they were very special to you ❤
I currently have a pair preparing their nest in my bird box on the patio. They’re so cute and fun to watch. Every morning I make a cup of tea and watch them. One will go in the box and the other will stand on the railing and keep watch for danger. Thanks for the video! It found me at the perfect time
How sweet. I love to watch chickadees at my feeder and around my yard. So lucky to have them trust you and actually sit on you so close. Tiny and Tim were adorable, but of course, I was saddened at the end. TFS
I’ve been watching a pair build a nest in a birdhouse I put up in my garden about a month ago. They are very busy and have no fear of humans because they are used to seeing us outside and come to the bird feeder while we’re sitting on the porch and “dee-dee-dee” at us, grab some seeds and fly off. So cute!
Chickadee's are my favourite birds, along with nuthatches. Something about their bravery, and nature just makes me feel good. They are so energetic, and feel like thistle down on my hand. Makes me feel somewhat protective of these little guys. Nuthatches are so quick and feisty, and when they make noises like they are chuckling, or chortling it makes me laugh. I love seeing them both. 😀
Beautiful friends you have. It's always sad when you notice one of them doesn't return after seeing them in rough shape. Makes it nice to know you can take care of their offspring sometimes.
Chickadees are my favorite bird! I'm learning so much through your channel. Thank you so much for sharing your love and knowledge of these little angels on earth. 🐦❤️
Chickadees are so brave for being so small and cute. When I'm outside handfeeding the chipmunks, chickadees often land on my hands and grab the shelled peanuts. I love how they are so curious and follow me around when I'm outside as well. We have a pair of cardinals who will come right up to us as well, but the bluejays are very skittish and only come when we are inside.
Peanut Fiends I have always found cardinals to be pretty shy if they catch sight of me watching them. That's impressive to me that yours will come near.
This was beautiful. I love your videos. I just started birding after volunteering at a bird rescue. Now I just love the birds in my back yard. Thank you for sharing Tiny and Tim’s story 💕
Lesley thank you for your videos. I have learned so much. Today I had my own chickadee encounter. My grandmother was getting some trees trimmed and I had a feeling a nest was in one of the trees. I saw the men notice the nest and when he reached in to get the babies I ran outside to help. I held 4 baby chickadees to keep them warm as I stayed near the tree and came up with a plan. I watched mom and dad hop around, looking for their babies. They saw me and stayed around me but they were panicked. I was panicked too! The little cuties were starting to chirp for mom from my hands but they were mainly content and warm. I found a little birdhouse, filled it with their old nest b/c the branch was broken and placed the little fledglings in, hung it in their tree and said a prayer. I watched mom and dad find them and they seem to be well fed and happy as of this evening. What a relief!
Thank you! Your videos have been invaluable to me. A few weeks ago chickadee couple moved into the half-dead birch next to our cabin home in the Black Hills of SD. I really knew nothing about them other than their name. It's wonderful to learn about our new neighbors through your videos rather than just reading about them. I will share on FB!
Great video! I will be sure to share! I put a birdhouse on our patio this year not expecting the birds to notice it right away. Well, it only took a few days before a Black-capped chickadee pair found the house! They have been building a nest for over a week now! I think the female will soon lay eggs! I am so excited for our new friends. :)
I had my first opportunity last year to hand feed sunflowers seeds to black capped chickadees while on vacation in Door County Wisconsin. Coolest thing ever to have them land in your hand and take seeds. I fell in love with these sweet little birds. Thank you for posting these videos. It's obvious how much you love your feathered friends.
This was the most amazing video i have watched in a long time. Thank you so much for making and sharing this. Your voice is soothing and your love for sweet birds is obvious. Pleeeeeease make and share more videos!!!!!
@Katie Ryan yes they are normal visitors here foraging for food. They are SO tiny! Also a flock of white crowned sparrows, a lone yellow-rumped warbler, a wren come to feed on the homemade bird food I put out on the top of my backyard wooden fence. It's very relaxing to watch!
That was wonderful! Finally had the time to watch it Easter Monday and it was the perfect way to end my day. Thank you again, for these marvellous videos and photos.
Glad I found your channel, Lesley! I have had a decades long love of birds and the Black-Capped Chickadee is one of my favorites here in Minnesota. I look forward to browsing your archive.

The Black-capped Chickadee is one of my most favorite local native birds. Such cute, smart, energetic little birds. I enjoy observing them as I walk around wooded ponds and while home in the development I live in.
Haven't seen our chickadee friends for more than a year now, I miss them so much. Thanks for the nesting tips. Neighbors cut down dead trees that (I think) had been their home for years. Thanks for your videos!

Chickadees are my favorite birds, amongst other things for their melt my heart cutenessness 💜🌈 As always, this video is yet another symphony of visual bliss and teachings 😍 Thank you Lesley for being a voice of knowledge on birdies❣️
I really enjoyed this little film and have often heard different calls but had no idea what they meant. I think Chickadees are the smartest birds too. They never crash into windows like some other birds. Thank you. Joan
Thanks Lesley👍 - I always learn something new from your videos. You have so many birds that aren't at my location. You are a unique person to be able to have birds get that close to you
Thank You for the video
Chickadees are pretty friendly. If you feed them it's not hard to get them to land on your hand.

CG Account you should do a seperate vid discussing this - would be interesting
This made me cry. I feel attached to these birds through your videos. Thank you for sharing this, Lesley.
You are very welcome. It's hard not to get attached to them, they are so true, innocent and beautiful.

Major compliment for all of us bird nerds!!
Only because she skirts around the sensitive subjects of birdie politics!
😄💖 What a Beautiful Lovely Loving Intimate relationship you have with this family. Extremely touching video!
Your spiritual giftedness is a beautiful blessing. Thank you for capturing and sharing this incredible circle of life. I will always save my cats fur now to assist with nest making! ❤
Chickadees are fast becoming my favorite little birds ...! Thanks Lesley !
“They're so busy going back and forth that they often run into each other...” What a beautiful video. Chickadees are adorable, single or in couple. 🥰

Those pics. of Tiny and Tim are priceless.

You can get a rain sound app for your phone. With birds in the background.
This made me cry. I remember those birds. They were always making an appearance in your videos.
I love my chickadees! They are plentiful here in Maine, and have built up a level of trust with me and my squirrels, and are easily hand fed.
Your calming voice and this beautiful video truly lifted my spirits today. Great tribute at the end for Tiny and Tim. Thank you!

icouldjustscream Sounds like she had definite opinions on what she would and would not eat. And let you know about it. What a personality!
What a wonderful story and friendship. You were given quite a gift!
Chickadees are one of my favorite birds. They frequent my feeders and nest in the woods behind me.
I'm an "outdoorsman" who really enjoys nature/wildlife. Realized I really need to learn more about NA songbirds, enjoy your videos.
Thank you.
I also enjoy the background sounds.
The trees blowing and the lite rain

Just amazed at God's little creatures! Thanks for sharing!
That's impressive to me that yours will come near.
these lil guys come and occupy my bird house every year and I always look forward to it.
I love how Tiny posed for the selfie. So cute!🥰
I really enjoy all your videos Happy Easter I still am in awe of the relationship between you and the the birds you must be an angel or princess

This is so AWESOME!! I appreciate this! There's many here in San José, California. I sit at my window, and watch them. They are really cool!

I call this bird the “you who” bird because to me, that is what it sounds like it is saying. The sound of this bird make my heart melt
The Black-capped Chickadee is one of my most favorite local native birds. Such cute, smart, energetic little birds. I enjoy observing them as I walk around wooded ponds and while home in the development I live in.
Humans can learn a lot from these little guys! Thank you very much for the video. LG in Chicago.
I can't believe I just found you! I see these birds at my feeder everyday. And I knew they were chickadees I had no idea how they nested or anyting
Haven't seen our chickadee friends for more than a year now, I miss them so much. Thanks for the nesting tips. Neighbors cut down dead trees that (I think) had been their home for years.

One of my favorite birds besides the wren. I have three at my feeders all day long.
That's where the moss on my bonsai trees is going.
I love Black-Capped Chickadees, we have them in our yard year round. They are like little spies, always keeping track of what's going on. Wonderful video and narration. I live my little chickadees! They are such a friendly bird that they will occasionally feed right from my hand.
Thank you for sharing this chickadee video they are so darn cute
Chickadee is only wild bird that I could get to land on my hand The male on that branch swaying back and forth was too funny
Thanks for the info on those tiny birds, they're my favourite & have lots at my feeders in winter 😊

Very touched by Tiny & Tim's story and how you were involved. Thank you.
Wonderful and interesting video! I loved the picture tribute to Tiny and Tim at the end, it brought a tear to my eye.
Chickadees are my favorite birds, amongst other things for their melt my heart cutenessness 💜🌈
As always, this video is yet another symphony of visual bliss and teachings 😍 Thank you Lesley for being a voice of knowledge on birdies❣️
I really enjoyed this little film and have often heard different calls but had no idea what they meant. I think Chickadees are the smartest birds too. They never crash into windows like some other birds. Thank you.

Lovely photography -- and I love my little Carolina chickadees! Very similar. -- What treasured memories in those photos of you with Tiny and Tim!
Lynn Stillwell here in Georgia is the Carolina chick
I mean to say chickadees too
@@maryjoortiz5328 -- Right. I'm in Georgia.
Beautiful video, but it was so sad to see that they had passed. Chickadees are the cutest and spunkiest.
Thanks Lesley👍 - I always learn something new from your videos.
You have so many birds that aren't at my location.
I know how special Tiny and Tim will always be to you - loved and forever in your heart.
I'm glad I have pictures of Tiny and Tim excellent up close - on you "Until One Loves an animal,
