For the first time I have 2 CC’s checking out a ceramic bird house in my yard. Thus, this brought me to your video.😊. I think they are still “checking it out” but not sure they will choose it. Of course I hope they do… but just watching your video made my heart sing. Thank you!
The formation of the nest, getting views from above how the eggs are moved, their mouths open for food and the excellent camera views of the fledgling! Superb!!!!
Let's all see if we can get this video more views and likes for Lesley by sharing it with your birder friends. There were just under 5000 videos recorded and 100s of photos during the time of the nesting from 3 cameras, the final video took almost a month to make. The longest so far! Thank you to everyone that has helped support us. It truly means a lot to both of us ~Jamie
This could be a mini documentary on Netflix! There’s one about a hummingbird mama laying eggs/nesting and such. Amazing work! You’re inspiring me to keep trying to document the Eastern Bluebird family that nests every year in our backyard
That is so kind of you to say that. Thank you so much. You should definitely try documenting the eastern blue birds in your yard. I bet you would learn a great deal and have such an interesting and touching experience. 🐦🙂
@@LesleytheBirdNerd You’re very welcome! From the little I have seen and witnessed, I indeed have learned a lot! When the pandemic hit, I was able look after two bluebird babies until the wildlife rehabilitation center took them. It was such an emotional experience for me. The lessons I learned I tried to share on my blog in hopes to pass on the beauty to others. It was too wonderful not to share.
@@AS-dw9oe that was so kind of you to help out those bluebirds until wildlife rehabilitation were able to get them. Thank you so much for that. I can imagine how emotional it was. What an experience.
Oh my gosh! My husband and I loved the entire video! We live in South Carolina, right smack dab in the middle of 5,000 acres of commercial peach orchards, so we have tons of birds. We have lots of chickadees, and I now REALLY want to put up nesting boxes. Thank you, Leslie and Jamie, for the incredible amount of time and effort you put into these videos.
I'm a northerner but have lived in Florida since 1979. Chickadees are the birds I have missed the most. It was great to see and hear this little family. Thanks for sharing!
That is a wonderful insight into what these birds are doing when they aren't flying around my feeders. I love their calls and their friendly presence in my yard. Thank you so much for expanding my knowledge of the North American birds I see daily.
It's always so cool watching birds raise their families, regardless of the species. I never would have thought of Chickadee's being aggressive but I guess even they have to do their best to defend their nests.
Flying around inside the box was is my favorite part. Imagine if there were 10 or more in there! Love the whole vid thought, Chickadees are one of my favorites. Thanks, well done.
Thank you, Lesley. What a joy to watch these sweet Chickadee babies. I love birds - watch them and feed them. I only have one wren house but I am going expand my bird housing project.
How can I possibly thank you for sharing this magic. I'm saving it to show fellow cat lovers which indeed I am, but to convince them of the absolute critical necessity of keeping their well-fed well-loved cat Indoors. Yes it is fair you can make it fair for the cats and it is right for these beloved creatures.
Thanks for sharing, Lesley! I love how the parent chickadees use the “Phoebe, Fee-bay” or “Hey, Sweetie” call to alert the nestlings of feeding time. I found that to be really adorable. 🥰🐣
I love the whirring sound of the chicks’ practice flapping, too. It reminds me of a plane engine or a flying hummingbird. The chicks pecking at the box was cute, too. 🥰
What I liked the most was the babies working their little wings. I'm guessing that they are experiencing something like "Restless Leg Syndrome" that make them feel like doing the flying thing. So precious.
They got to build up those wing muscles flap, flap, flap to get strong wings how it feels to them is an interesting question and makes you wonder if restless leg syndrome is some ancestral remnant of our own juvenile muscle building?
I loved your video! From start to finish. I loved watching the mom spending so much time perfecting the nest. And dad doing his job with pride. Very well done!
I enjoyed the "inside view" so much! I have had nest boxes for years. They have been used by Carolina Chickadees, Eastern Bluebirds and Carolina Wrens. When the bluebird nestlings get rowdy, the whole box rocks back and forth on its pole! So glad all the kids made it without any predation. Thanks for this, Lesley!
Omg that is too adorable about the box rocking back and forth when the Bluebirds get rowdy haha. Such sweet birds. Thanks for the nice comment. Have a great new week ahead.
So wonderful 🤗💓 I was thrilled to learn that the female protects the nest by “snaking”? and that the male flew in and hid behind her. So cute. And it was adorable seeing the male encouraging the fledglings to leave the nest. What a treasure this video is. So grateful to you because my husband and I have missed our interactions with the little birds in Norway that we loved and nurtured and saved a couple of times for 5 years before returning to the Pacific Northwest.
Aww Jen you're so kind. Thank you for this sweet comment, I am thrilled that you enjoyed the video. It truly is remarkable how they behave and what they can accomplish. One of my fondest birding experiences ever. Have a wonderful day

@@LesleytheBirdNerd it's great to know that some people take the time to appreciate the simpler things in life and the birds are beautiful and somewhat not noticed by a lot of people because they're so busy but you do wonderful work!! I have no words . This is a great video . Only once have I ever seen chickadees in a nest hole. It was so nice to see the full nesting cycle especially with 100% success . Thanks for all your efforts. This was amazing.
@@LesleytheBirdNerd I had a bird that would greet me every day I stepped out of my apt/house. I'm not sure if it was a Flycatcher or a Kinglet. It would get very close and give a chirping sound as it stayed very close on the tree but would retreat a little when I approached. It had long tail feathers. Any ideas? EDIT: I have a video of one of my encounters. Let me know if you want to see it.
Thank you so much for showing us this video! What a wonderful opportunity she the nesting prepared, the eggs layed, hatched , fed and leaving the nest. A wonderful opportunity. I will never forget it!
Actually being inside a chickadee nest to observe their precious family activities while they are nesting has been a dream come true for me, Lesley! What a wonderful gift you have given to us, your fellow chickadee and birding fans. Your commentary is so knowledgeable too in your lovely peaceful voice. Thank you so much for creating this video for us. You are very gifted!! 💕💕
I just LOVE you bird nerd because im one 2!!!! I love watching her building nests and I learned many things. First I learned they make a cup in their nest. Then I learned that she does that snake defense and that was truly amazing! I have so many chickadees outside at eat my black oil sunflower seeds that this was a very informing video for me! I have one that started coming as a fledgling and her name is Matilda. She's still around and it's been a year but I don't know where she next so now that I know what they do I can start looking for holes in the trees for my chickadees instead of just woodpeckers! Thank you for all you do for us amateur birdwatchers
That was some amazing footage! Never saw, let alone knew of the predator posturing. I watched two chickadees this past spring excavating a nest. I was so close to the nest; they flew on my camera lens a couple of times but otherwise ignored me. My favorite video of yours to date for sure!
The snake behavior is something else. Quite interesting. The various ways birds survive is remarkable. How great about you getting to see a chickadee pair digging out a nest hole. Its surprising how relaxed they are with someone watching. The sweetest birds thank you for the lovely comment.
Thank you for all your hard work to share this with us!! I have always wanted to see a baby chickadee and now I’ve had the pleasure of seeing 6!! Love these darling little birds!
I love to watch the birds develop and grow. I appreciate the detailed description of the nesting box and why the dimensions are significant. Thank you Lesley.
Another beautiful,, informative, sweet story about these darling little birds! It fills my heart with joy.. Thank you so very much. Now, at 1:30 am, I will lay down to sleep and hopefully dream about them.
Nothing cuter to me than baby birds especially baby chickadees 💗 it was really cute when they were pecking the box. We have some in our rehab clinic now trying to do the same in their cage! Thanks for the awesome video!
I know, the adults are cute as it is but then the baby chickadees are just ridiculously cute. I'm glad you found it sweet of them pecking at the box, haha! I loved when they would do that. Aww, I'm so glad you have some in a rehab clinic, wishing all the best to them. Thank you for the nice comment. Have a great new week ahead
This is just marvellous, rivalling any prime time nature doc footage for sure 👌🏻 I love how you've brought your passion to life Lesley, sharing your wonderful gift, indepth knowledge and experiences in a way we can all enjoy, learn and benefit from. Your narration is perfect too; clear, concise, authentic and genuine. You educate without sounding preachy, obnoxious or insincere. Using a tone/pace that is easy to follow and steady enough to digest, without becoming painfully slow and patronising. You also manage to fit in a wealth of information without resorting to that unnatural and all too common, modern style of rushed audio. Often used in adverts designed for short attention spans, where every pause for breath is edited out, thus creating a high speed artificial monologue which again, comes across as disingenuous. Kudos to you and Jamie for your great work, and bringing us this wonderful window into the unseen world of nature. Best wishes to you both from England, UK 🇬🇧✌🏻🙂

Thank you so much for this video. I am a photographer and I have a pair of chickadee's in my yard. I have 4 feeder's, mostly feeding them safflower and sunflower seeds. The most interesting thing about this video was the mom bird defending her nest while in the box.
This was absolutely amazing! I loved every frame! Lesley, you are so generous with us to share your love of birds and nature. Thank you sooo very much…and what a planet!
Omg this is so beautiful 😢 I need more this. I recently got obsessed with birds because theres a flock that get up to all sorts of antics. When some males and courting females it looks so funny when he is litterally running after her😂
Congratulations on an awesome video! Edited beautifully, *very* professionally done. I didn't want to watch it because, for some reason, I get claustrophobic every time I try to watch a nest box. But I didn't feel that way for a single second watching your video. That's a huge compliment. :-)
Thank you so very kindly for the lovely comment. I am very happy that you were able to watch the video without feeling that claustrophobic feeling. Awesome. :D :)
Absolutely delightful! I love your perspective on this minor miracle, going on everywhere that birds are nesting. So easy to take it for granted and yet look at all the work the parent birds put in, including defending their brood. This is what makes Nature a source of infinite wonder for me.
thank you so much for sharing your experience! my sweet chickadee gal spent her first night in the box five days ago. watching you video and understanding the timelines a bit more has put my helicopter-mom anxiety at ease. i'm wishing all the best for my chickadee pair.
I enjoyed watching the "snaking" defensive move, hadn't seen that before. I also really liked watching the mother dive into the nest with her but up in the air lol, so cute. Watching the fledglings flap their wings and landing on each other was hilarious! Thank you for the great content
Loved it! I've had some every year in different Houses. They change every now and again. I love them. It's been ten years at least. I never want to leave!
😂 the last one was dreading the flight (like me) but when pops came with grub then left with it! So literally a motivational move - birds are really smart so if someone calls you a bird brain tell em thanks!
This was truly incredible to witness! And must have took an amazing effort to put together so thank you! What a privilege to see such a thing, these precious birdies are just wonderful thankyou for looking out for them, it was so heartwarming to see them all healthy happy and thriving! 🐦💙
It was a lot of work but so much fun. I enjoyed every bit of it and I'm so glad that you enjoyed getting a glimpse into their little secretive world too. Thank you for the lovely comment.
Thank you, Lesley, I loved every minute of your wonderful chickadee video. She was such a good mum, loved to see her shaping the cup, keeping it clean and defending her brood with lots of help from Dad. I put up some nest boxes for our chickadees and one year a pair started to nest but our tribe of house wrens drove them out. The wrens filled the other nest boxes with debris full to the top. They don’t like competition.
Aww that is too bad about the wrens. It's a tough world out there for those birds. They are all fighting hard to survive. You have to hand it to them that's for sure. Thank you for watching and for the nice comment. Have a great new week ahead
The babies helping their sibling to hatch was amazing. Often we see the opposite of siblings competing for food and shoving out the weaker siblings. Your videos are just wonderful.
Absolutely fascinating! I loved it, saved it will watch it again. Chickadees are one of my favorite birds. They’re such a cute, snappy little number! It was fun watching from inside the box especially when mom would perform the snake behavior. I didn’t know they did that. Amazing and I’m glad it worked. Thank you for sharing your wonderful video and I’m so happy they’ve stuck around so you can continue watching them!
THANK YOU! Wow, this is great. I have 3 nest boxes for bluebirds in my yard and this spring one has been rented by a Chickadee pair. I was shocked when I checked it out and saw all the moss at the bottom. She has 5 eggs and has begun incubation so watching your video was very helpful. I would love to have a camera installed in there. That is so cool! Thank you again for sharing and narrating.
Oh my goodness how precious of a surprise that must have been for you. Chickadees are such darling little birds. Enjoy and thank you for the kind comment. ❤🐦

Aww Mark that I so kind of you to say that. I'm so thrilled you enjoyed this video. I loved making this one very much. Everything about it was beautiful
It truly means a lot to both of us
~Jamie
It's an incredible video! I especially like the little one who hung out a little longer just to peck the side of the box in peace, haha.
@@JacksonCrawford thanks so much Jackson. I loved that little guy too. Such an innocent and sweet little bird. 🙂

Shared×4!! Great video!❤❤❤🐣🐣🐣🐣🐣🐣🐦🐦
@@leonidaslantz5249 Thank you so much :)
Beautiful... thank you for sharing!
14:50 Those hatchlings pecking the wall is for some reason, one of the cutest things i've seen
That is a wonderful insight into what these birds are doing when they aren't flying around my feeders. I love their calls and their friendly presence in my yard. Thank you so much for expanding my knowledge of the North American birds I see daily.
You are most welcome, Linda. 🐦🤗
It's always so cool watching birds raise their families, regardless of the species. I never would have thought of Chickadee's being aggressive but I guess even they have to do their best to defend their nests.
Goes to show ANY momma can get aggressive when it comes to her babies safety! 😀
@@SweetStuffOnMonarchLane - true! It's just that when I think of aggressive Momma's, Chickadee's aren't usually in the forefront of my thoughts. ;-)
@@Intrepid175a Hahaha! Right!
Flying around inside the box was is my favorite part. Imagine if there were 10 or more in there! Love the whole vid thought, Chickadees are one of my favorites. Thanks, well done.
I can't imagine how chaotic it would have been with 10, wow. That would be something. Thanks so much for your kind comment. I'm glad that you enjoyed
Hey thank you :) I love that too, it's sweet
So amazing to see the intricate life of chickadees. So charming and heart warming! Thanks Lesley for all you do. 💜🐦
You're welcome, Jessica and thank you very much for the kind comment.
thank you So Much for Brightening my day!!
The snake behavior was totally new to me, and I loved the whirring sound of the practice flapping!
Thank you so much! I'm glad that you enjoyed it :)
This was an excellent video! Very well put together. Your narration added so much to the story too! Great job!!
Thank you so much!
Have a wonderful day
At 11:53 I just wanted to mention how quick mama popped onto the nest. It was like an instant and she was protecting her babies. So sweet.
Leslie I love all your bird videos thanks for making them I know there's more to it than what you get credit for and your voice is perfect for your videos also well done!!❤
Thank you Duane. Much appreciated 🙂🐦 it's a labor of love and it is so rewarding to share with others.
@@LesleytheBirdNerd it's great to know that some people take the time to appreciate the simpler things in life and the birds are beautiful and somewhat not noticed by a lot of people because they're so busy but you do wonderful work!! I have one of the most amazing pictures of a pileated woodpecker that you will ever see I would love to show you trust me it's nothing like you'll ever see it's heavenly...
I was so entranced with this video I forgot to say 'Thank You' for sharing it with us. It's very educational, fascinating, and just delightful.🥰
I'm so glad that you enjoyed this video. Thank you for the lovely comment :)
I have no words . This is a great video . Only once have I ever seen chickadees in a nest hole. It was so nice to see the full nesting cycle especially with 100% success . Thanks for all your efforts. This was amazing.
Thank you so much Doug. I'm happy that you enjoyed the video. It was a lovely experience. Have a great night.
Remarkable narration.. Such a joy to be a part of this young families beginning of their young lives. May God watch over them all!! 🐦👍❤️‼️
I see BCC's all the time on one of my favorite hiking trails. They seem so carefree and curious.
I know, aren't they just the sweetest. I love how curious they are of people. Such friendly pleasant birds
I had a flycatcher behave like this after hrr eggs had hatched
Thank you so much for showing us this video! What a wonderful opportunity she the nesting prepared, the eggs layed, hatched , fed and leaving the nest. A wonderful opportunity. I will never forget it!
You are welcome and thank you for taking the time to watch and leave a nice comment. I'm glad you enjoyed the video
Cutest photo eveeerrr
I love this photo, so glad that you do too. 🐦
Watching the babies actually taking their first flight from the nest box. Chickadees are one of the easiest birds to identify with their iconic call
I love them, they're so small.
❤this is one of the most adorable and beautiful things I have ever seen. ❤️ 🎉well done momma x
This was ASTONISHING! WELL DONE! Better than anything David Attenborough could've done! Just fantastic! Thank you...
Aww thanks for the kind comment :) Glad you enjoyed it, have a great day
Actually being inside a chickadee nest to observe their precious family activities while they are
nesting has been a dream come true for me, Lesley! What a wonderful gift you have given to us, your
fellow chickadee and birding fans. Your commentary is so knowledgeable too in your lovely peaceful voice. Thank you so much for creating this video for us. You are very gifted!! 💕💕
Thank you so much, Jan. :)
This was a wonderful story of these dear little birds! Thanks you for your efforts to preserve them and this episode in their lives. ❤
So very welcome, Gayle and thank you for the kind comment. 🥰
Chick-A-Dee-Dee-Dee !! Theirs nothing like a Mother’s love!! 💕💕
I was getting worried about the last egg, so happy they all grew up strong and healthy. Thank you, Lesley
Bless them! When they were flapping and tapping the box, it was like they were testing out their new equipment and loving it!
Thank you for all your hard work to share this with us!! I have always wanted to see a baby chickadee and now I’ve had the pleasure of seeing 6!! Love these darling little birds!
My kids and absolutely loved watching this! Thank you!
Lesley, such a cute video! I love how the earliest fledglings helped the last egg to hatch .😊 that was my favorite part.
I'll be watching this many times... it's as though I'm secretly being given a window into the miracle of life. 🐦🌷 I'll be sharing. 💓
I like how the adult knows not to feed the last fledgling inside the nest.
This is the most heart warming video I have ever seen. Just discovered your channel, Lesley. Thank you!!!!
Do chickadees be found in india ?
Your comment is so nice to read. I don't even know what to say, but thank you very much. Means a great deal to both of us. Best wishes to you too :)
@@LesleytheBirdNerd You are very welcome, thanks for taking time out to reply, I love your work :) I went off on a tangent there in my comment, sorry! I just wanted to emphasise what a breath of fresh air your channel is when compared to the 100mph status quo of many modern youtubers. I finish your videos feeling enriched, educated and relaxed, not many channels have that effect on me, so thank you :) ♡
This was really cool to see. Every step of the way was fasconating. The babies flapping their wings in the nest box was 😅
Thank you so much for this video. I am a photographer and I have a pair of chickadee's in my yard. I have 4 feeder's, mostly feeding them safflower and sunflower seeds. The most interesting thing about this video was the mom bird defending her nest while in the box.
You're very welcome. That is wonderful about you having chickadees in your yard 😊
When some males and courting females it looks so funny when he is litterally running after her😂
So sweet! What a treasure to see this whole evolution ❤🐦
It was a pleasure to watch this and then make a little video on it. So glad you enjoyed
What a thrill! Thank you for sharing this!
Glad you enjoyed it!
I love when they do the little wing flutter
Absolutely fascinating! I loved it, saved it will watch it again. Chickadees are one
of my favorite birds. They’re such a cute, snappy little number!
It was fun watching from inside the box especially when mom would perform the snake
behavior. I didn’t know they did that. Amazing and I’m glad it worked.
Thank you for sharing your wonderful video and I’m so happy they’ve stuck around so
you can continue watching them!
That was fabulous!
I liked getting to see those first few days after the babies hatch and ALL the antics of Mom.
