    Your description of Tilea is basically a copy/paste of real Renaissance Italy
    Down to the family being the founding stone on which the rest of the society if structured.
    Well done! We certainly were an unruly lot in our heyday

    Tilea and Estalia have colonies in the New World, they're the only human nations that do.
    They're both more rational and less superstitious than the Empire, because the population of both is more knowledgeable in general.
    And while the Tileans do prefer crossbows, they also make use of guns, but they don't just use DoWs, they have a state army but it's so miniscule compared to the mercenaries they employ, that it's insignificant for fighting.
    So far though, Tilea is a much better pick for DLC in Total War Warhammer 2 because it works in all the maps we have. The colonies in Lustria are a starting point for the Vortex map, while for ME it can work either way.

    What they need to do with Tilea is to create a variety of generic mercenary units and have the regiments of renown be their elite troops. They can draw mercenaries from most of the various races. I mean there are dwarf, elven, ogre, and various greenskins that can easily be made into mercenaries. Not to mention a few things here and there like the Pirates of Sartosa and maybe the Amazons who could be nice flavor units.
    But that's the whole point of adding Tilea!
    It's to give you the player a crazy mixed bag of all manner of troops in one army.

    • @Rukdug
      @Rukdug 6 років тому +2

      Unable Pown Well, they could always make Albion Giants actual Sky Titans instead of barbarian Cyclopses. That could work. Maybe make Albion a very fae faction drawing from Irish, Scottish, and Welsh Folklore (but not English) with Sky Titans as the ruling class and the Oghams as ruined Gates to the sky realm.

    • @1Korlash
      @1Korlash 6 років тому +1

      We already know too much about Albion giants to turn them into Sky Titans. They're not smart enough and they're not big enough. A Sky Titan absolutely dwarfs a giant, much like a giant dwarfs a human, and can build things like mountaintop castles and gigantic, master-crafted cannons covered in rich mosaics that put Dwarf guns to shame. (Ogres use those cannons as Ironblasters, and they're probably the most powerful cannons in the world.)
      Also, the comparison of Fimir and Sky Titans is problematic because Fimir aren't extinct. Sky Titans almost certainly are, or at least there are so few left that they might as well be.
      The most lore-friendly way to include Sky Titans would be to have one as a quest battle for the Ogres. Just one, though, as it would take an entire Ogre tribe just to have a chance of bringing it down.

  • @Rukdug
    @Rukdug 6 років тому +3

    Well, one thing CA can definitely do, based on some of the images you were able to show, is make a shielded crossbow unit with pavisse shields. Aside from that (and maybe making a greatsword variant of the duelists) I think they will definitely make generic versions of the Dogs of War RoR. Also, an interesting ability for Tilea would be the capability to hire rogue armies if they appeared inside Tilea, for a very hefty sum of course. These newly hired rogue armies would be able to recruit both regular Tilean units and new copies of their original units. A rogue army of slayers pops up? Hire them, and that army can recruit both Tileans and slayers, but only that army can recruit slayers. Something like that. Also, if CA isn’t going to increase Tilea and Estalia’s size province and city wise, they should get bonuses for building tall in order to compensate and represent their in-lore wealth properly. Also, give them bonuses to diplomatic relations with the High Elves and Dwarfs and a buff to trade income.
    Also, when trying to describe the uniqueness of Monte Castello, it reminded me quite a bit of the “Leagues” that the Ancient Greek City-States set up.

    Pigallo II for LL??

  • @KS-PNW
    @KS-PNW 3 місяці тому

    The story of Pigliano was hilarious!
    I wonder if it was inspired by Talkenta, Alaska. It's a small town in the foothills of Denali that had 3 consecutive mayors go to federal prison for corruption. As you can imagine, the people got sick of it pretty quickly. They talked about shifting to a town manager model of government but realized they couldn't afford it. This isnt a wealthy area snd and the corruption was really making things worse. When it came time for the latest special election one older woman nominated her cat joking that "at least we know he wont steal."
    Apparently that was enough for the voters as the cat won nearly 70% of the vote. Honestly you almost have to feel bad for the human candidates. Just like Pigliano things ended up working out pretty well and ever since they've elected cat mayors.

    Could you do a similar video for Estalia and the Border Princes?

    • @1Korlash
      @1Korlash 6 років тому +10

      Estalia: We actually know almost nothing about how they fight. We have few to no units from Estalia. (Pirazzo's Lost Legion isn't from Estalia, but from Tobaro, a Tilean city, and it says that Pirazzo learned the tactics he taught his men to use in Tilea. So they're not Estalian, despite the obvious conquistador theme.)
      Based on scant fluff descriptions, they sound like a pre-unification Iberian Penninsula, with small kingdoms, city-states, and mountain tribesmen. According to the RPG (which isn't really canon), they have very good duelists. I think they have a knightly order too (NOT Blazing Sun, as they're explicitly an Imperial order), but I can't find a source, so take it with a grain of salt. I think they also have an inquisition, because there's no way Warhammer Spain wouldn't have something so grimdark (even without the 40K references).
      If I were to build an army list, I'd say that the coastal states field tercio-style infantry, while the mountain tribes field almogaver-style light infantry and jinete-style cavalry. A few inqisition units and/or heroes would be cool too. Magically, I'd guess they'd use fire, light, and metal, though I could see them not using magic at all and regarding any spellcraft as HERESY!

    • @1Korlash
      @1Korlash 6 років тому +19

      Border Princes: Canonically, the Border Princes are a not a coherent entity at all. They're made up of dozens of independent, tiny principalities that constantly rise and fall while fighting each other for scraps of the crappiest real estate in the Old World south of Norsca. Brigands, mercenaries, exiled nobles, zealots, immigrants, and much worse flock to this region, create the crazy mess that is the Border Princes. Viewing them as a united entity of any kind, like TWW does for simplicity's sake, is incorrect.
      That being said, the Border Princes is the only place where anyone can make it big if they have the skills to pay the bills. It'll be hard, rough, and bloody work, and you'll probably die young even if you do succeed: Most principalities don't last a year, and ones that pass successfully to the second generation of rulers are extremely rare. But if you want a challenge, a very customizable campaign, and a chance to rise from the most humble beginnings imaginable, a Border Princes campaign would be perfect for you.
      Border Princes have no canon units to speak of, but the best way to represent a generic Border Prince army and implement a campaign based on the lore would be as follows:
      Early game, you'd start off with a single crappy settlement and, apart from mercenaries who charge an arm and a leg for their services (and may try to overthrow you if they get unhappy), utter garbage units: Hired thugs, conscripted settlers, bandits, hunters, etc. Nothing wears much armor, or is well equipped, or is even that good at fighting, but what did you expect? You're a Border Prince, not the damned Emperor.
      As you expand, fighting off Greenskins and rival princes, you'll get to make choices about how you want to develop your principality. Immigrants from the Empire, Tilea, Bretonnia, and even the elder races can boost your economy and bring with them the fighting styles of their homeland. Also, pick a state religion: You'll get good relations with certain factions depending on what it is, plus unique bonuses and units tied to that faith, like Warrior Priests or Questing Knights.
      Speaking of Questing Knights, if you get in trouble you should try to get the Bretonnians to launch an Errantry War to help you out. After all, those knights love riding to someone's rescue, and they've cleared the Border Princes of Greenskins in the past. Just appeal to their honor and they'll be riding to your rescue in no time! Of course, if your prince is a vampire or you decided to worship Chaos, those Errantry Wars will come for you, so be careful.
      Eventually, if you play your cards right, you'll have the whole region under your control. The Border Princes are no more, replaced by your growing realm. (Feel free to rename it whatever you like.) With the increase in territory, you also have more money and international prestige, and your armies are improving as you have more resources to spend on your troops. They're still pretty basic, but depending on your choices you now have access to well-organized militias, knights, artillery, more mercenaries (who charge more reasonable fees now that you're too powerful to extort from), and maybe even some Dwarf or Elf units depending on the immigrants you let into your realm. You're not quite on the same level as the Empire or Bretonnia, but you're learning fast, and depending on where you expand you'll unlock more units based on the cultures you conquer.
      Yes, you've come far, but your challenges aren't over. With the rise of your principality, you now enter the world of international politics. Older, stronger countries than yours watch your power grow warily. Orcs rally against you, seeing that your realm can finally provide a decent fight. Beastmen, furious at the triumph of artificial order over natural chaos that your realm represents, will try to topple all that you have built. The undead, intrigued by your charisma and willpower, will try to sway you to their cause. If you refuse, they'll see you as an enemy. In the mountains, the Dwarfs watch you warily, eager for another ally in these dark times but ready to avenge any wrong you commit against them.
      And in the frozen north, beyond the lands of civilized men, the whispers of the gods blow out of the Chaos Wastes, tempting you with power unimagined by mere mortals. Will you embrace Chaos and help bring about the End Times, or will you stand strong against the darkness like Sigmar of old? Will you lead the world to damnation or salvation? The choice is yours, mighty prince.
      THAT is how a Border Prince campaign should play.

      Super late reply, but the most in depth sources of lore for most of the human nations can be found at the Warhammer Armies Project. It's completely unofficial, but as a GM for Warhammer Roleplay I find it extremely faithful to the spirit of the setting and incorporates canon lore whenever possible. The PDFs are also free so there's no harm taking a look.

    How it should Tilea should work.
    You play trying to unify Tilea and make every city happy, if one is not happy they are going to assassin your lords.
    Cities fight between each other for products and trade routs, they will also demand shit you must provide or unhappiness become stronger.
    You can only recruit pike, crossbowmen, spear and seargent cavalry.
    You can pay for a condottiore (as a hero) to bring his dogs of war for X turns (the real good units).
    Condottiores with unhappy cities are even more expensive and can betray you.
    Heroes:
    Condottiores (good fighters, but mostly they have their own armies).
    Paymaster.
    Grey Wizard.
    Assassin.

      That could be interesting- each city has a special building chain that gives bonuses to your units and a special unit type, like Luccini gets the Temple of Luca and Lucinni and Leopard Company Pikemen, and Remas gets the Harbor and Republican Guard. If there's a mini campaign around Tilea, that's what I'd expect.

  • @scelonferdi
    @scelonferdi 6 років тому

    I think they could easily include the light cavalry, heavy cavalry and the (neither great- nor dwarfen) cannon from the sixth edition mercenaries army list (which is essentially 6th ed dogs of war) as generics. At least the heavy cavalry is mentioned to be (partly) Tilean, whilst the text of the cannon refers to mercenary Armies in general.
    BUT I don't really think that making Dogs of War a faction would be the right call. I'd rather see them included as a mechanic to both parts of Warhammer like in the historical Total War games. It should be possible to recruit mercenary versions of low to mid tier units of some of the factions in their provinces with some limitations for some factions regarding both providing and hiring mercenaries (no DE for HE, bretons being completely left out of the sytem). The regiments of renoun could be recruitable at specific provinces or maybe everywhere and of course being the only high tier mercenary units. The generic tilean/Dogs of War units (pikemen, crossbowmen, duelists, heavy cav and maybe cannons and light cav) could just be the generic mercenaries avaible in Tilea and the human colony (and Estalia?). They could however make Tilea a new faction with high economic power but no mean of building their own armies and thus being completely reliant upon mercenaries. They wouldn't need to mind recruitment buildings and could have some mechanics relating to mercenaries. Of course they would have to have the generic tilean units as garissons but that should be the limit of their non mercenary armybuilding. Maybe they should also split Tilea up in three one-city states: Miragliano, Reman and Lucini. The mercenary lords and heroes should definetly return into the general pool if disbanded and keep their level. This would allow an interesting aspect of mercenary generals becoming better and better (and more expensive?) whilst switching factions and also would make tilean armies more effective despite being truly small (because they level up their general pool together even when fighting each other).

    Say Inept General, I've been reading a bit about the southern realms shown in the Mods that I play in Total War and, I'm bit curious. Tilea, Estalia and the Border Princes are all completely different places with definitive pieces of lore. How does that translate in Tabletop besides the Dogs of War? You mentioned Tilea in here but does all three "nations" or "Groups of nations" have a distinct culture for unique armies like the Whole empire or the Whole Bretonnia? Is there distinctions between the South realms?

    • @ySkipery
      @ySkipery 6 років тому +4

      yes it is, but theres lack of lore for these parts. For example Border princes are desribed as adventurist and criminals from empire and thats it.
      Tilea is what he described in video, and estalia is kind of the same thing but with much less lore...
      So the dogs of war is the only hope for making these factions playable. The rest dont have much lore (if any) and no units

    • @Ashelirria
      @Ashelirria 6 років тому +2

      They can always do like they did with Norsca. Make up the roster and add more things, since they have the power granted to them by GW to do whatever they want when making factions. So there might not only be DoW but some unique units for Tilea too, like it was the case with Norsca.

    I know probably no one will read this, but I still have to get it out there:
    The four main factions in Warhammer 1 got DLC Units, thanks to "the King and the Warlord" as well as "The Grim and the Grave"
    Because of that, the unit roster of the other DLC and FLC factions can seem a little weak by comparison. So i was wondering if you could eventually release some units for them, like the missing jabberslythe for the Beastmen.
    Or even better, since we know that you are not limited by GW's official codexes (as seen with the hippogryph knights, foot squires and the entire Norscan roster) Could you bring brand new units to flesh out the already existing factions? For example, Bretonnia has several other units in the Lore, like the truffle hounds and the herrimaults.
    But even better still, you could make entirely new units, like the Tarrasque a dragon-turtle looking monster straight out of Southern France Legends and mythology... now that would be something unique... Plus, that's the most french dragon out there... and since it was tamed rather than killed in the legend (by Saint Martha), it would make sense for a priestess of the lady to accomplish the same feat... It's basically a perfect fit!
    Here's an extract from the wikipedia page:
    "The Tarasque was said to have come from Galatia, which was the home of the legendary Onachus, a scaly, bison-like beast which burned everything it touched (this creature is similar to the Bonnacon). The Tarasque was the offspring of the Onachus and the Leviathan of biblical account; disputably a giant sea serpent.
    The king of Nerluc had attacked the Tarasque with knights and catapults to no avail. But Saint Martha found the beast and charmed it with hymns and prayers, and led back the tamed Tarasque to the city. The people, terrified by the monster, attacked it when it drew nigh. The monster offered no resistance and died there. Martha then preached to the people and converted many of them to Christianity. Sorry for what they had done to the tamed monster, the newly Christianized townspeople changed the town's name to Tarascon."

      That's interesting, I wasn't aware that the Tarrasque in D&D is inspired by real-world mythology. You made my day!

    • @calimerohnir3311
      @calimerohnir3311 6 років тому

      Artturi Grundström I was making a reference to the "Dragon-turtle" version from the folklore, also called the "Faramine Beast", not the Carnosaur looking one from D&D.
      But yeah, it is indeed inspired by real world mythology... the problem is that because of the D&D version the actual folklore representation doesn't show up as the first image in Google. It is a shame, because the city of Tarascon (which still exists today, 23 km (14 mi) south of Avignon the city of the Popes) even has a statue of it made by Pascal Demaumont, and since the middle ages they had a festival of the knights of the Tarrasque: the "Tarascaires". They also say that the Castle of the then King René was built atop its lair.
      It was described as dragon looking, with six short legs similar to that of a bear, an oxen like torso, atop of which rested a giant tortoise shell. It had a long and scaly tail, ending in a scorpion's sting. Its head had at the same time the likeness of a Lion with its mane, and that of an old man. The beast was said to stalk and devour unwary travelers in the bogs of Provence.
      Other fun fact, since the 25 of november 2005, the festival of the tarrasque was proclaimed by UNESCO, as part of the Intangible cultural heritage of Humanity (that's why they built the statue)

Possibly, if CA really wants to reach back in Warhammer lore, Half-Orcs (existed in editions 2, 3, and I think 4) who didn’t get officially retconned out until edition 5 or 6, when they got“Fimired” for lack of a better term.

      A lot of fans agree that the Dark Lands are pretty dull on their own. There's several theories floating around about how CA can expand the map and make it more interesting than just Dark Lands:
      1. Add the Chaos Wastes to the north.
      2. Include the eastern part of the Game 1 map. (This is mostly from people who think Kislev will be a core race rather than preorder DLC.)
      3. Add the Far East, or at least part of it.
      4. Don't need more. Dark Lands and Mountains of Mourn are enough for a whole game.
      Personally, I'm hoping for #3, even if it's the least likely. It sounds like it would result in the most fun experience, especially considering Game 3 needs to stand on its own as a full Total War title.

    Tobaro did change and it was retconned by GW, since it is based in Toledo a city in Spain.

      Also Under-Tobaro lies the most important port in Skavendom. The Nest Port, the Headquarters of Clan Skurvy, Rat Pirates! The port is connected to Skavenblight via Warprail, and it is through this port that the Skaven trade Slaves with the Dark Elves and Chaos Dwarfs as it is the only place in the entirety of Skavendom that they let other things to put a foot in. Still, its pretty much limited to Dark Elves and Chaos Dwarfs and the slaves they bring.

    I wonder on which story pig prince based on(EDIT, nvm found it =] ) . And why there is no Romulus city/state?

    • @Rukdug
      @Rukdug 6 років тому

      Black Light Rome got divided into Remas (named after Romulus’s twin, history as a republic, Julius Caesar equivalent) and Lucinni (legendary twin founders).

      Jamie Wanless Its Remus* and my question was, if there is city Remus inspired,is there Romulus city inspired. I guess they just switched thigs up.Instead Romulus-Rome they used Remus-Remas.

      Black Light
      1. I hate autocorrect.
      2. Exactly. Remus didn’t get a city in real life, so he got one in the Warhammer world instead of his brother (although combining the two for “Remulas” as a city name would have been more creative, or at the very least less obvious).

    I don't get it, there's been no mention of Dogs of War being included in the game (right?). So if you're going to make a video on them call it a Warhammer lore video, not 'Total War: Warhammer' because at the moment the game has nothing to do with Dogs of War so it's just false advertising.

    • @candide311

      No they're definitely not. Regiments of renown are designed to reinforce the factions already in the game, they're clearly not mercenary units.

    Could they just make new characters, all of the tilean characters sucks?
