    Minor point about the pronounciation of Dietershafen: As a german I can assure you that you have to split the sh in a separate s and a h. Generally what is written as sh in english is spelled sch in german (roughly, the exact pronounciation of those two is a bit different). So Dietershaven is pronounced like Dieters Hafen (which just means Dieters Harbour).
    Hope it helps.

    Minor correction. The Elves of the Laurelorn Forest ARE NOT Wood Elves. They're High Elves. They were colonists who refused to return to Ulthuan during the War of Vengeance. Similar to the Wood Elves, but they still have ties to the High Elves, and they have nothing to do with Athel Loren.
    Edit: If you're wondering where you can find this Lore, it's in the Second Edition of 'Warhammer Fantasy Role Play.'

      In Sigmars Heir which was the source of most of this video although skimmed over the origins of the Laurelorn elves they're repeatedly referred to as Wood Elves and are only high elves in that high elves see no distinction. Went back and had a look they also have no ties to Ulthuan so couldn't really be classified as high elves in that way either. Just on their own isolationists not tied to Ulthuan or Athel Loren.

    • @scelonferdi
      @scelonferdi 7 років тому +2

      Well Wood Elves are basically High Elves who decided to stay in the old world as far as I am aware. In this regard the laurelon elves are wood elves. They became Wood Elves in the same manor as the Athel Loren guys(to a certain extend) but are completely independend from them in their origin and thus are not elves who came their from Athel Loren. Their ancestors just decided to stay in laurelon instead of leaving to Ulthuan.

    • @mycaleb8
      @mycaleb8 7 років тому +3

      They are "Wood Elves" in the sense that they're elven colonists who remained in the Old World and live in the woods, but they have no connection to the Azrai of Athel Loren.

    • @scelonferdi
      @scelonferdi 7 років тому +2

      They are asrai, since that term is used for all elven colonists which remained in their old world dominions as far as I am aware. But yes, they are not asrai from athel loren. Basically this is all a discussion about definitions.

    I've been really enjoying your content and I think you are doing fine in terms of your german pronunciation, for the most part anyway. :D Im sure someone already commented something like this on one of you videos and not that it really matters,
    but this might help you with that german tongue twister you seem to come across quite often in warhammer lore.
    "ge-haim-nes-nacht" maybe this makes it easier for an english speaker to pronounce. Keep up the good work!

    So, because i think you like names and stuff, just a short memmo on Dietershafen. It's a classic german name, build together out of Dieters ( Dieter is a german surname and the s means belonging to) and Hafen, which literally translates to harbour. So basically Dietersharbour. In pronouncing it, just say what you said, but dont pronounce the sh as sh but in the two seperate words.
    Schlaghügel is pretty much the same. Schlag translates to punching, but in this case most like derives from lumbering. So a place where lumbering took place. Hügel is a small hill. So a hill on which lumbering took place. Hope that helps.
    You mananged to become my breakfast entertainment. Keep up the good work !

    Are all Norscan people evil ? like is there a tribe or even a character that is against choas?

    • @kylevidauri4869
      @kylevidauri4869 7 років тому +54

      Well to put it bluntly, no. But to call Norscans and their fellow Northmen evil is to misunderstand the lands they come from. The Norscans come from a literal icy hellscape, there are hideous Chaos Spawn, Trolls, Giants, Ice Drakes, ect, ect, to constantly fight against for bare survival. There's so little arable land that the tribes can only make a living raiding the lands to the south, its the only way of life they HAVE. Now as for the worship of chaos, as it says in the rulebook, "To the Northmen, to lament the Dark Powers would be to lament the wind, or the rain. Chaos is merely a fact of life." The Chaos Gods actively bless Norscans who prove themselves to them, giving them often useful mutations such as scything claws or all seeing eyes. These are supremely useful when you have to fight and kill just to see the next day.
      So to the Norscans, Chaos is not evil, its all that keeps them alive. Nurgle's fetid poxes and diseases cull the weak, and sometimes render those who worship him forever immune to basic harm such as chilling cold and maiming injury. Slaanesh grants warriors masterful skill of arms and pleasure in an otherwise horrific and bleak land deprived of any pleasures save for being able to survive the next day. Tzeentch grants the cunning and physically weak with a means of defending themselves through sorcerery and powerful mutations... And Khorne? Khorne... Khorne is the god of mighty strength, of boundless fury, of fearless defiance in the face of death. This is why, above all, to the Norscans, Khorne is their patron god.
      So to conclude this TL:DR, there is really no such thing as an "evil" Norscan, or Hung, or Kurgan. They are the result of humans being pushed to the farthest edge, of human beings trying to survive in the most horrific places imaginable. Sigmar seldom gives his followers more than a bolstering of strength, perhaps some kindness in the faith that he will perhaps protect them. In the North, the Chaos Gods promise the power to defend all that the Norscans hold dear, and to thrive, rather than merely scrape by.

    • @emperorcip9756
      @emperorcip9756 7 років тому +2

      And they really did a lot of thriving when their entire world blew up.

    • @kylevidauri4869
      @kylevidauri4869 7 років тому

      Well to them it was akin to the Ragnarok of the real life Vikings. Norscans only value battle and strength of arms as its all their culture has, therefore dying in the ultimate world ending war is kinda all they aspire to.
      You also forget that, while I do despise Age of Sigmar, alot of Norscans apperently survived to become... ugh... "Mortals". So yeah, they are actually doing even better now that they have their own fucking realities to call home. Granted said realities are as shitty as ever, but yknow, the devil you know and all that.

    5:00 - Could the Dawi stop all the Norscan raids just by committing a few ironclads? It's not like a longship could possibly defeat one unless it somehow closed in to boarding range.

    • @ticker0157
      @ticker0157 2 роки тому

      There are ultimately just too many norsca pillaging bastards, and quite frankly not a lot of ironclads. Barak varr is really the only dwarf hold you'll find any dwarfs crazy enough to get on a boat of any kind period, and it's under pretty consistent ork threat so it would also be to expensive for one ship that can be at only one port or wherever.

    Does the Elector Count of Nordland have a Rünefang given that they weren't party of the empire at its inception?

    • @theineptgeneral8325
      @theineptgeneral8325  7 років тому +1

      Hi Lee good question. Yes Nordland do have a runefang it's called Crow Feeder. Now where this runefang is from exposes some lore conflicts in Warhammer. I think it is widely assumed that Nordlands current runefang is the runefang of Westerland which is listed as a founding province in some lore.
      The idea being that what is now the wasteland was controlled by 2 different tribes the Endals who ruled Marienburg and the Jutones who ruled north of the river. The Endals were with Sigmar and were presented with the runefang. However other lore says the Jutones ruled Marienburg and did not join the Empire until the same time as Nordland. Thus the conflict but in theory Nordland has the Endals old runefang provided the Endals ruled Marienburg at the time of Sigmar.

      Maxi Dunkel I know you weren't trying to be rude. It's just the way it is, at least they're trying. We can't expect people to pronounce everything correctly if it's not the language they're not used to speaking 😩
      The real world thing that bugs me even more is when people flatly refuse to call something by it's proper name altogether... like the city Bangkok is not called Bangkok at all by Thais. The city's proper name is Ghroongtaeb now image how Thai people feel 😝
