    Vintage Story is an absolutely fantastic game, but it definitely is a bit overwhelming for new players. The complexity that makes it really fun and engaging also means there's a lot to learn. :D I strongly suggest reading the starter and progression guides in the Handbook when you have a chance.
    You can open the handbook entry on anything in the world by looking at it, crouching and hitting H, or if it is an object in your inventory, hover your cursor over it and hit H.
    Monsters on the surface have specific spawn rules; that "rift activity" metric you found in the Character screen is related to one of them. :D Apparently the game was being nice to you and giving you a calm first night.
    The "crouch" and "sprint" buttons also modify the left- and right-click actions in different contexts, and I actually find the default shift-crouch and control-sprint setup to be most convenient once you get used to the context-sensitive uses.
    Leaves from regular trees and bushes come in two flavors, "leaves" (which don't drop sticks), and "branchy leaves" (which do). They look slightly different, but you can also check what type a leaf block is by just looking at it and reading the descriptive text. Fruit trees (with the skinny trunks) are their own animal; they don't drop anything except cuttings you can use to try to plant a new fruit tree. So don't try to get wood or branches from them, you'll just destroy the tree.

      Thank you for the tips!
      I will be uploading episodes for VS on a daily schedule and I did a bit of studying so I'm not quite as noobish in ep2. I still have very little knowledge though so your tip is helpful. Especially crouching and hitting 'h'. I will prob use that next time I record.

    £17:30 for UK buyers by Google translate. Also great to see an option to turn view bobbing of. I tend to feel sick if I can't turn that off.

    Glad you enjoyed your first look. You can mark points of interest on your map for later (m). The official discord has a streamer channel you can post in as well, it may hell since it's a niche game.

      Thanks for watching, I watched a couple tutorials and preparation for episode 2 so I have a bit better idea of what I'm doing although obviously I'm still far from an expert. By the way I'm doing daily uploads for this series so I hope you enjoy it!

    Look like I’m gonna have to play this game for my first time! Honestly looks like what I’ve always wanted from Minecraft. The main thing I noticed is u haven’t got to be eating every second like it’s a chore plus the day cycle is much nicer than just 10 minutes imo

    • @hardwaredespair
      @hardwaredespair  Місяць тому +2

      It's waay better than MC imo. I highly recommend it. Only thing it doesn't have is the redstone that MC has, but it does have it's own version of automation. Food is kind of a chore early on but once you figure out how to make good porridge/stew it's not an issue. Also, there are a lot of world settings you can customize. I don't think u can change day length, but I know you can change how many days are in a month. You can even do a full 30days if you want a long play!

      @ I read that a day is 24 real life minutes so 48 minutes for a full 24 in-game hours that’s honestly the perfect amount for me I think. This is also a similar time speed that I know rockstar games uses for gta v and rdr2, so it’s pretty proven

    Always awesome to see a fresh perspective on VS versus the usual grizzled veteran who knows every minute detail.
    Love the awe and wonder you expressed cresting a hill to look into a gravel pit. Makes me smile :)

    Great timing... I've been watching reviews of this game to decide if I want to dive in or not... dying to a pig or goat on day one seems to be a trend... ;P

    VS is a fantastic game. There's going to be water /pack animals update soon enough and there's plenty of interesting mods already that can help fine tune it to player's liking.
    Just warning you about chisel and chiseling. If you try it, you probably won't be able to put it down. Most of the VS players suffer from chiselitis. :P

    • @hardwaredespair
      @hardwaredespair  4 місяці тому

      Thank you I'm definitely going to do a long series for this game so we'll probably get to experience the patch together. I was kind of surprised fishing isn't in the game but maybe it's coming with the latest patch or down the road? Either way I'm excited to learn about this new world chisels and all LOL

    • @t.a.6915
      @t.a.6915 4 місяці тому +1

      @@hardwaredespair I think fishing is planned, but not sure it's going to be in the next update. There's a popular mod called "primitive survival" that adds more types of fish and let's you set traps.
      On a different note, if you ever have a hard time knapping because of how faint lines are, you can make them more visible in the game's options.
      I will definitely watch the series. I love VS and I love to watch new players discovering the game. :D
      ps. If by any chance you decide to start over, there's plenty of options to customise the world and survival experience - starting from showing a mini map to deciding on distance to equator, player's HP, animals behaviour and so on. GL.

    Hey this is a good game eventually you need to start a farm have livestock field’s of grains vegetables fruit trees and bees for honey and wax one thing I will say is that it takes time to fully domesticate wild goats like several generations wish you the best
