I keep getting a lot of the same comments, so here's a li'l FAQ for you all! "Where do I get this game?" Go to vintagestory.at and get it there! "Why isn't this on Steam?" Because Steam takes a massive chunk of every sale and the tiny indie studio that makes Vintage Story doesn't want to lose the income. If you want it in your Steam library or just want the Steam overlay, you can still do that! Once you have the game installed, open your Steam library, and in the bottom-left, click "Add a Game" then "Add a Non-Steam Game", then add it there. It'll be in your library with the in-game Steam overlay and everything, and even tell your friends when you're playing just like any regular Steam game. "This looks like TerraFirmaCraft!" It was originally inspired in part by that Minecraft mod, however it is absolutely not the same. Some aspects are still very similar but most have diverged quite a bit at this point. And no, the game developers are not the same ones who made the TFC mod, though they did start out as Minecraft modders. They wound up making their own game out of frustration with how unfriendly Minecraft is to modders and how limited they were in what they could create. "This is just Minecraft!" / "They just ripped off Minecraft!" / "They're gonna get sued for copying Minecraft!" I'm not sure why these comments are so common, but that's not how game copyright works. Vintage Story is a completely original game made from scratch with entirely original assets. Some of its mechanics are quite similar to Minecraft, but they are also quite similar to many other survival sandbox games. I think people see the pixel art aesthetic and think it looks more similar than it actually does. But you might as well say that Stardew Valley is a ripoff of Harvest Moon, or that Starbound is a ripoff of Terraria, or that every FPS is a ripoff of Doom. You can't copyright a genre, and Vintage Story is a completely original game, albeit inspired *in part* by other games including Minecraft. "I'd love this game if only ___ were different!" Great news! Vintage Story is *extremely* customizable. When you create a new world you have access to loads of options by default in the vanilla game, like how quickly you get hungry, how aggressive enemies are, how long you can breathe underwater, the lengths of months, your starting climate, and much more. Anything you can't change there can pretty much always be changed with some easy modification of the game files (which are designed to be easy to modify) or by using one of the many available mods created by the community with the support of the game's developers. Check out my stream archives from my patron server for a taste of what the mods can add! "200 days when?" I had fully intended on this being my last major UA-cam video, but the response has been so overwhelming that I finally decided to make another one. It is in the works now but it's unlikely to be ready before December 2023, possibly later (though this one will not take a full year). It will not be a direct continuation of this playthrough - instead, it will be a very different challenge that showcases some of the amazing things about this game that weren't showcased in this video. Meanwhile, you can see me stream Vintage Story from my modded patron server every Sunday at 20:00 Central Europe / 19:00 UK / 2 pm Eastern US. "Why don't you have more subscribers?" You're too kind! I've had this channel for over 9 years now and it just never took off. UA-cam doesn't typically promote wholesome, unmonetized indie content, so my channel never found its audience. The recent massive influx of views on this particular video has left me flabbergasted, but I'm pleased that so many folks have enjoyed it! For the record, I am not a professional UA-camr and do not plan to be because it's simply an insane amount of work with very unpredictable pay. I have a day job which takes up most of my time and energy, and the videos I have are made in my spare time, which is why they don't get released very often. 100 days in Vintage Story is 80 hours of gameplay if you don't pass the nights (and in the upcoming video I will not be sleeping), and it takes months for me to record that much, let alone sifting through the footage, writing and recording a script, and editing it down to 90 or so minutes. I'm working on it! Please be patient with me in the meantime. And if you want to help support me so I don't have to work quite so many hours of my freelance job and see sneak preview clips of what I'm currently recording, you can always become my patron at patreon.com/secretfoxfire ! 🥰 Thank you to everyone for watching, and for the many very kind comments you have left. Have a wonderful day!
I'll say that all this attention, probably very welcome to you, comes from Rimmy and his group of friends running their RP server. Never heard of this game until now, and this was the 1st video (aside from a full playlist) that showed up. It's a brand new audience to what appears to be a quite "underground" game.
"I miss my pigs, and I miss my murder hole" - Murder hole proceeds to immediately open up from under feet - tiny pig laughs in background a few seconds later A wish was granted by force in this moment
My English is not very good, so I always activate the subtitles to be able to understand better. When I realized that you wrote the subtitles manually, I realized that this video has a lot of work and dedication. Keep making this kind of videos and you will grow a lot ;D
For a video like this, it was important to me to have proper subtitles. (I also need subtitles when I watch videos, so I know how bad the automatic ones are!) You are right that it was an enormous amount of work though! I'm really glad you enjoyed it. Unfortunately I don't have the time to make more videos like this right now. It's really only possible if UA-cam is your job, and after eight years of making videos, I still don't earn any money from this channel, so most of my energy has to go to my day job. As I explain at the end of this video, I'm switching to using my spare time to make games and puzzles and running servers instead of making videos, at least for now. If I can get enough support on Patreon to quit my job, I will definitely start making videos again, though! If you know anyone who can afford even $1 a month to support me, I'll be very grateful, and they can play on my new Vintage Story (and Minecraft) servers with me. 😉 Thanks for your comment!
@@Joll_ethey take time to lean and try to speak properly, over time he will *hopefully* be a bit more laid back and will probably stop using punctuation..? Hopefully he doesnt forget it when it matters
I have thalassophobia and one day I was being chased by a wolf into one of those deep deep lakes. I freaked out so much i shut my game off on accident. I've gotten better about it, but they still make my stomach turn for sure. 10/10 best horror game.
I initially wrote off this game but upon trying it for the first time I ended up sinking over 10 hours a day into it for almost a week straight. Longer than ANY other game ever before. The depth of knowledge you need and the struggle to survive was a genuine pleasure
I had a similar experience! Originally, the dev sent me a free copy and asked me to review it. I glanced at some screenshots, figured it was just another version of Minecraft TerraFirmaCraft, thought "why would I play another game like that when I already have Minecraft?", and ignored it for months. When I finally tried it I was blown away. I hope more people give it a proper shot, because it's great!
@@SecretFoxfire ambisambphibian or AA did a stream on it and thats how i learned nad from that i found other channels i like had vids and fromt here i rabbitholed im only wishing i could get it visa steam because i so far am in the 15.5 edition and gonna stay there as my self law for pirating this good game.
@@SecretFoxfire Unless I've been misinformed by other's making a similar leap of logic I thought the game was made by the same, or at least some of the same, people who made TerraFirmaPunk. TerrafirmaPunk had me blown away, and this just does that many times greater though.
@@domisunique Close, but not quite! They were Minecraft modders at first, and they were trying to make a better version of the TerraFirmaCraft mod, but were frustrated by the limitations of Minecraft, so they decided to make their own game instead. They did make a Minecraft mod called VintageCraft though! I'm not sure how complete it wound up being before they bailed to make a new and better game. :D There is definitely inspiration taken from TerraFirmaCraft in this game, but it is very much its own thing and has gone in quite a different direction at this point.
I'm so used to watching and playing Minecraft content that seeing a game that looks and feels like it, but isn't. And watching someone speak so confidently about the mechanics, etc is such a bizarre treat. Its like watching an alternate universe to a degree. Loved every second of this!
Oh,@@Skrymaster , fun fact! This game was originally Terrafirmacraft! This is the mod matured, believe it or not, the folks who made it had so much fun they decided to make their own game! Last I checked, it was actually one of THE FIRST Minecraft mods, so it makes sense, but still neat nonetheless, innit?
@@rory0233 not true in the slightest. tyron (the creator and lead developer of vintage story) has never been involved with TFC. you can find their official version of the story on the website, but the summary of it to my knowledge is: tyron originally started modding minecraft to make it something that appealed more to him and his wife. the initial stages of this exists as vintagecraft (still available to download), which is largely just a worldgen overhaul that uses a system much like what vintage story uses. he spent a fair amount of time expanding this mod, adding features you probably recognize from vintage story, but further versions were never made public. at some point in 2015, he was hired to work on hytale. around six months later, realizing that hytale wasn't the game either of them wanted, and getting frustrated with the limitations of minecraft modding, tyron left hypixel, and created vintage story- which was originally built off the FOSS minecraft clone ManicDigger, although according to tyron, basically none of the original code exists anymore, and it's all been replaced by his own work.
@@CarrierOfChaos617except I bet this game won’t take 40+ years to drop an update 😭😭 (No hate btw I fucking LOVE Valheim I just want the Ashlands soon cuz funny bone men 💀)
I love how well documented this is. A lot of the "100 days" genre of video, or the longform gameplay videos as a whole, feel like they're made up for the sake of content, but the feel of this is a project; not a fabrication.
idk why but you being really happy about herding the pigs only to turn around and find one clipping out of the fence reminded me of that one video of a man explaining the security of his hog enclosure just for one of the baby hogs to walk out as soon as he turned out between the fence and the man turned around and cut himself off mid speaking with "Oh my god-" and being cut off by the video ending
I've been interested off and on in trying this game, but I'm a little nervous about the learning curve/difficult start and the SUPER complex crafting systems... but something I really liked seeing was how little cave-diving and fighting monsters you had to do. a lot of your 100 days was focused on just building and crafting and managing your homestead. that's something I'm craving; immersing myself in the little day to day stuff, so I can pick away at the game for an hour or two on a weeknight and still feel satisfied. I have little to no actual experience playing voxel games (I've watched others play a fair amount), so your video really helped me understand what I'm in for! thanks for the immense effort you made with your video & helping a newbie see how charming and chill Vintage Story can be (:
I know it might look intimidating at first but it's actually not nearly as difficult to get into as it might look! The game has a built-in handbook which will explain how to make everything and how to use the various mechanics. You can just point the cursor at something and press the H key and it'll open the relevant page. There are also loads of great tutorials from other players in case you get confused, and an official wiki as well. And yes, you can make it a very chill game indeed! When you generate a new world, there are loads of options for customization. If you want, you can turn off the temporal storms or even make all the creatures totally peaceful so you never have to fight. You can fiddle with hunger settings, how quickly food spoils, and how the tools work. You can even adjust the generation of ores in the world to make it easier (or harder) to get materials. And the latest version has loads of new stuff like fruit trees, brewing alcohol, lots more recipes, new animals, more plants and materials, prettier weather effects, and more. I swear I'm not being paid to advertise this game 😂I just love it! Anyway I'm really glad my video caught your interest and made you less afraid of trying this game out!
I learned about this game from a friend of mine and ended up doing a play through with some of my siblings. I gotta say the game is really impressive. It’s core concept is actually based on an old minecraft mod called TerraFirmaCraft that had many of the same features but it was (sort of?) abandoned. At first the game didn’t draw me in, but at this point it is one of my favorite games. It really shows that with an actually competent level of programing you make a Minecraft like game with much more complex mechanics. I really look forward to seeing more content in this game, potentially even working towards some low level electrical systems and steam power. Thanks for the video!
@@hak-en-slash4636 look at the latest uploads of ilmango. He is playing a rather unknown version of terrafirmacraft that mixes tfc with the create mod on minecraft 1.18.2. This provides an endless endgame which is in rather stark contrast to the normal endgame of tfc. I haven't played minecraft in years and this really made me put in quite a lot of hours lately. Very peaceful and zen experience but with harder survival than vanilla minecraft
@@hak-en-slash4636 Starting with Minecraft 1.18, TerraFirmaCraft has been adding new content, and the maintainers have been changing even core mechanics (with the blessing of the original devs). Collapse mechanics were rewritten; soil types are totally different now; there are flowing rivers and new biomes. There are rats that can steal from chests, and aqueducts to make water easier to manage early game. And all of that is the 1.18 version; I haven't looked at the features in nearly a year.
I realize that I am way late to the game to leave a comment but I just watched this video. I just must tell you that this was sincerely one of the very best videos that I have ever watched of a Vintage Story game play. It was completely entertaining while never a boring moment. A true pleasure to watch. I would love to see more Vintage Story videos from you and there are some so they are next on my list to watch. Fantastic!!! Thank you for all the work that you put into this video.
Thank you so much for the kind comment! It's never too late to say you enjoyed something. :D I'm really glad you liked the video. And I am planning another one now! It will take a while to make, but it's in pre-production. 🙌
Based on my experience of growing food IRL, the soil drying out daily is very realistic, you just have to water it every day that it doesn't rain, it will not stay wet for long periods of time
At first, I wrote this off as another minecraft clone like most people would since it looks like one with a texture pack. But after watching this whole video it's very clear that this is more than a simple clone, it's clearly a lot more in depth and harder with a more realism vibe going on. And I was surprised by how much I enjoyed the video you have a rather calming voice, and it was always entertaining to watch and very relaxing
I saw this in my recommended and decided to check it out on a whim - do not regret it at all. This entire video was just so sweet and charming; really made me want to try this out myself if my laptop could even handle it ahah. Hope to check out more of your content!
I'm so glad you enjoyed it! Vintage Story actually runs really well on lower-end hardware. It's much better optimized than Minecraft, which is what most people are more familiar with. You might not be able to run it on the highest settings, but you might be surprised how well it runs! And if you get it and it doesn't work, the creators are also very good about refunds. Give it a shot if you can! :D
What a fun video to watch - thank you! Usually, I have a hard time watching Vintage Story playthroughs because it's a very grindy game that quickly feels grindy just to watch. But your commentary made it so enjoyable to watch a movie-length video! Keep up the great work! Subbed!
A genuine Thank you for making this video. You single handlely managed to promote Vintage Story with an excellent window into the game, that cover most of the expected gameplay and general feel of the game from the average player stand point without needing for us to watch let's play, and is more representative than a review. (Vintage story has that slow-ish involved gameplay, that make it difficult to put into a non-abridged format that can retain attention on youtube). Thank to you I discovered a game that has managed to keep my attention for week straight, something that hasn't happened since Factorio and Stellaris a while back. Even if the Version used in the video is a bit out of date gameplay wise it's still the best introduction to Vintage Story one can have. So thank you for your long effort.
I just recently got the game expecting it to be Minecraft but with more survival elements, but after watching a few tutorials, playing a bit of the game myself, and finally watching this, i am completely shocked! It's nothing like minecraft at all, you have to go all Primitive Technology in it "XD How anyone was able to figure this game out I have nothing but props for them. And to you too for making an interesting 100 days of this game, it has taught me a lot
Honestly, this comment is a breath of fresh air after the hundreds just saying "THIS IS JUST MODDED MINECRAFT, THEY STOLE THE GAME, THEY'RE GONNA GET SUED!" 😂 It really is a very different game. The good news is, it has a built-in handbook that explains everything about how to play and also contains all the recipes for crafting, so it's not as difficult to get into as it seems! There is a learning curve, but you'll get the hang of it before you know it. And if you need help, the official Discord server is full of people happy to answer questions. 🙌 Have fun with it!
I've rewatched this video 3 times now, on my fourth rewatch now. The video is extremely well made, thanks for making it! Whenever I'm into Vintage Story, I like to watch content about it on UA-cam. Unfortunately, there isn't a whole lot of content for the game out there, especially good stuff like this video. So keep up the good work!
Thanks so much for watching and for the nice comment! This sort of video takes an obscene amount of time to make (especially for someone with a day job), which is probably why you don't see more videos like this. But I'm so glad people are enjoying it so much!
I haven't watched all the way through, but this looks like an exact replica of terrafirmacraft made into it's own game, I had the best time watching etho's tfc series all those years ago, i still occasionally rewatch them. Looks really interesting.
I have like 120 hours in my current world and have only been playing for like a month or so. Its honestly becoming one of my favorite games. Been breaking into the mods recently too and I love what I've seen so far. A lot to look forward to with Vintage Story!
This is a really interesting video and game and I have to thank you for making it. I was surprised to find out the devs of this did minecraft modding but not related to Terra firma craft which this really reminds me of but evolved into its obvious end point. Really amazing
I'm somewhat amused about how the intro puts emphasis on how you can't just sleep through the night in Vintage Story compared to Minecraft and one of the first things you find is a high end bed allowing you to... 😅
Holy crap I've never heard of Vintage Story before, damn the devs really need to advertise this like this video itself has really made me want to buy it now :3
Alright, I think I just fell in love. Got the game today, found out about it because of this very video. I picked the blackguard, because it sounded like the logical choice for survivability. Managed to build a knife on my own and started to engage in gorilla warfare with the local drifter population, while living off of whatever the forrest had to offer. Got eaten by wolves like 5 times. 12/10 I now know how to make spears and will use this knowledge to terrorise the local drifter population more.
So glad to have introduced new people to this awesome game! Good luck against the drifters (and if the stone-throwing in more recent game versions annoys you as much as me, there's a simple mod to get rid of it)!
This is the first +1 hour video I've seen in almost a year or more. I just discovered the existence of this game and your challenge was fantastic and entertaining to watch. Love your energy, you made up my night, keep going, dude.
I was recommended this video and started watching it for about 3 minutes, and decided to stop immediately and buy the game. There's absolutely no way I'm going to miss out on playing it blindly for the first time. I plan on coming back to the video once I have played for a good bit but I am grateful for letting me know of Vintage Story's existance.
This video introduced me to Vintage Story! I've always wanted a Minecraft adjacent game with more realistic survival focused gameplay, and just seeing the scenes were the ground caves and shifts under you from your weight and how in depth the crafting is had me hooked! Definitely playing on snagging it in the near future. As well as an amazing video to boot too! Honestly would love to see a continuation of this save even in short-form content. Though seeing as how your moving away from gameplay, I'll try tuning into your streams sometime! Your humor is super enjoyable, and the editing and personality put into this video just makes this a treat to watch from start to end. I hope game developing goes great for you and that you're having a good 2023!
Wow, seeing all the small steps you get to do to make things looks really fun without actually being annoying. Definitely picking this up. And this is a really nice format, interesting journey!
thanks for mentioning the tool mining speed! i have chronic pain that is greatly aggravated by using a mouse too so changing that setting will def help me be able to play this game more!
What a lovely touch this video has, it's not every week you meet a well-edited, scripted AND narrated video, especially of this length. Id love to see your other games and servers, I'll dig around a bit, prospecting for the gold i now know is there. Take care and enjoy!
I've seen a lot of Hundred Days videos since it seems to be the big craze lately, but stumbling on this video has by far been one of the ones with the most heart and soul put into it. I've only recently gotten into Vintage story and am always learning; this video is how I learned you could upgrade windmill sails. I know you've said you've decided to move on to other projects, but truly, thank you for putting the time and effort in to deliver this.
This was incredibly enjoyable to both listen to and actively watch - your genuine enjoyment really tacked on for my interest! I hope Vintage Story's developers consider a steam release in the future, I'd love to play this myself!
They're unlikely to release on Steam because Steam takes a HUUUGE chunk of every sale. However, if you buy it from their site you can still add it to your Steam library if you just want the overlay and such! Just go to the bottom-left of your library and click "Add a Game" and then "Add a Non-Steam Game". It's really worth getting if you can and it'd be a shame to miss out. :D
This was my first time hearing about this game and i am starstruck!! I love it so much! I’ve been a player of Minecraft since I was around 10 and have never seen a game so similar, yet so different. I love the crafting mechanics and all the lovely crops in the game. This was such a good first experience with the game and I can’t wait to play it myself!! Thank you so much for your time and effort that was put into this play through! I’m a new subscriber and can’t wait to enjoy more of your content!!
That was great, I feel exactly like I’ve just watched a great show/movie I’m amazed at how much I enjoyed it, how invested I was and how soon it ended, it felt like 15 minutes. Thank you for making this, hope life treats you well!
What a beautiful video! I watched it all, laughed a ton, and I enjoyed seeing how you set the soundtrack to various scenes. By the end I was feeling a bit emotional at the scene where you were reflecting on everything you had built, haha Best of luck on your game design journey. I've enjoyed solving puzzles you designed in the past, so I'm really looking forward to seeing what you come up with!
Thanks so much! I have to admit I also got pretty emotional doing the last bits. After a year of work it was quite a feeling realizing I had reached the end! Obviously all the credit for the music goes to you - I had originally intended to have music playing the whole time, but it was taking so long I decided to just use it for moments where it felt needed. I promise to make some fun games for you! In the meantime, you should jump on my Minecraft server and solve the first puzzle, if you can. ;D
This was an incredible watch! I, like others, wrote the game off. Got it and put in a couple hours and just got so frustrated at how difficult it was but watching this makes me want another try.
this is one of the best youtube videos i have ever watched, so good, i didnt even know about Vintage Story and it looks so complicated, but you made it look easy and soooooo entertaining!!
just wanna say that I got this video in my recommended, and was so intrigued by the game that I bought it the next day! been playing for the past few days & i've gotta say it's one of the best games i've played in a while. Thanks for exposing me to such a cool game!
This is my first time hearing about Vintage story so you explaining some basic stuff and talking about small details is super fun. It's a real blast seeing how much you enjoy the game and the commentary is amazing!
This game seems like it could be fun, despite everything taking an incredibly long time to do. Especially the steel lol. Maybe with a friend to split the workload? I'm always more motivated to do menial tasks with a friend. Ive played with a few Minecraft mods in the past to create some similar effects, so I feel I have to at least try this game out. The amount of time and dedication to make this video must have been staggering, all I can do is applaud and thank you for introducing me to this game.
Minecraft's terrafirmacraft is very similar to this game except its absurdly tedious, and has the normal 20-minute day lengths with the same amount of things to do. It doesn't have a lick of magic or fantasy (other than the normal mobs) for the first chunk of the game. There's also zero sign of any people ever. When he started using a propick to look for tin and couldn't find anything for a while, I got flashbacks, I spent like 40 hours (irl) looking for copper at this one site in terrafirmacraft only to find absolutely nothing. There's also some points where you physically cannot make food (like sandwiches, one of the only viable foods) because of a glitch. This game seems like it has more love put into it than that mod. So you might as well just get this game unless you can't spend any money on it, but once you have the cash I'd suggest just buying vintage story. The skills you learn can transfer over, and you'll actually have enough time to do everything in a day and won't be forced to only chop wood in the winter, or just huddle in the dark until you manage to get a bed.
This is by far the most interesting and well patched gameplay Ive seen in a very long while. Not just vintage story but for any game in general. It's wholesome, genuine and really fun to watch and listen too. Thank you for this video. It's been a delightful time
can't believe I just watched an hour and a half of vintage story for a cat, 10/10 would do again XD. All seriousness holy hek this behomoth of a movie surely felt like one and I certainly enjoyed it. This is a game I dabbled in and out of through out the updates as its an odd flavor but seeing you pretty much go through everything just gives a grand sense of scale it feels, thankyou and may your future game making endevors go well~
I want to thank you. Because of this video, I bought Vintage Story. Have sunk nearly 150 hours in already. Just got my hands on cottage cheese! That took nearly a full year of trying to get the stupid sheep to breed. I'll have cheddar by next month! This game rocks.
I loved this! I know you said you wouldn't do it with the long amount of time it took to create, but I'll still say that I'd love to see days 100-200 😁 Good luck with the game making! 😊
29:10 I dunno, the orange color of the copper lantern has something cool about it. Though I feel like you’d need to lean hard into the copper aesthetic to fully take advantage of it.
i only discovered vintage story recently and i’m still very bad at the game but i really enjoyed this whole video!! i also really appreciated the subtitles - i have apd (auditory processing disorder) and i find it really difficult to follow along videos without subtitles, and youtube’s auto generated cc kinda sucks lol. i’m sure it took a while and trust your effort did not go unappreciated! your cat is also very cute :] tysm for the vid, i’ve subscribed! ^__^
I'm so glad you enjoyed the video! I also have APD and need subtitles, so it was important to me to make sure this video had good ones. It did take a lot of work but I think it was worth it! And don't worry, you'll get the hang of the game before you know it. ;D
ive heard vaguely of this game recently, but not much--i clicked this video with the vague intent to watch a bit before going off to do chores, but i was instantly hooked and settled in to watch the rest of it. despite knowing very little about the game, its a very accessible video and im immediately intrigued. great work :D (also, hell yeah vintage beef)
The borax reenactment was 10/10 for me 😂 But honestly good job! I enjoyed this video so much that it felt like it was only 15-20min long--not 1.5 hours! Looking forward to more Vintage Story content!
I ran into this video knowing absolutely nothing about Vintage Story, now me and two of my friends are all playing. Amazing video, thank you for introducing us to an amazing game!
I've been putting off watching this all week because I wanted to really take it all in and enjoy it, and you certainly delivered !! I would love to see another 100 days but I can only imagine how hard this was to record and edit. I love your style of commentary so I hope you make more videos in the future :D (also, 1:10:01 the way u said sauerkraut was so wholesome!!) Edit: Just realized this video is much older than I thought it was !! So now I have plenty of content to catch up on :D !!
This was strangely nostalgic, yet also refreshing. it feels like a game that went for the exact same feeling minecraft gave us as kids, but catered for adult tastes. it was a satisfying journey to watch you complete!
omg how have i not seen this game?? ive been looking for a game similar to minecraft but different enough to be its own game without mods and here it is - it looks so pretty too! definitely getting this for myself asap
Glad to have brought it to your attention! It's a really great game and TONS more has been added to it since this video was made. It's true that there's a lot to the game even without mods, but the game was also created by modders and designed to be modder-friendly, and you wouldn't believe how much more can be added to the game with mods (which are officially endorsed by the game developers - not like Minecraft where you have to basically break the game to use mods). Check out my stream archives if you want a peek at my server, which is heavily modded, to get an idea of what kinds of things are possible. Have fun with it!
I never heard of this game before. Never heard a word. But i watch you, what you do, the things you build and how you built it, the work that was required and just the amount of in depth detail required, it calls to me. I gotta figure out where i can get this game. Im also a fan of your design in terms of base building. From the base itself to the smelting and kiln area and such, i feel like i could take inspiration for when i play similar games.
What a fantastic video! Ive been interested in this game for a bit but I always put it off as just another minecraft, but seeing how in depth the survival aspect is made me really wanna get it! This video was a joy to watch, I hope you make more of this!
Very nice video! I've been skimming a few videos about the game trying to get the gist of how it plays and ended up so invested in yours that I watched the whole thing in one sitting without even realizing it. Your commentary strikes a nice balance between informative and entertaining without ever veering into 'annoying youtuber' territory. Very impressed by the effort that clearly went into making and captioning this, and appreciate that you kept it classy. A lot of the videos I've seen about this game can't resist bashing similar games (I'm looking at one now with the thumbnail 'minecraft sucks!'), so it's nice that you avoided clickbait and let the gameplay speak for itself. You've sold me on the game and on your channel, I look forward to keeping up with your future videos!
this is an amazingly well put together video and was a joy to watch (apart from the obnoxious static transitions on day 98 that destroyed youtubes compression) im gona have to go and play this game for myself now!
I’m really glad I found this video. Just bought the game earlier after watching this. I really hope this game gets more attention cause in my honest opinion, it beats out so many similar survival games by miles. Hell I might dare to say I like it better than Minecraft in some respects
I haven't been following this game since it was in its early beta phase, and this was a great video to reintroduce me to it! I understand so much about what this game has become through one video!
I'm so glad you liked it! A lot more has been added to the game since this video was made, too, so be ready for some surprises. :D By popular demand there is another 100 days video planned once 1.18 becomes stable, so that will show some new things, but it won't be the same kind of video, and it won't show all the new stuff.
Update: I finally decided to buy the game yesterday, and I've sunk roughly 12 hours into it already. I swear it feels like this game was made for me. I've played so many Minecraft modpacks that promise the experience of starting with primitive tools, being a hunter-gatherer, and working up through a slow, realistic progression. I've never felt satisfied with any of these modpacks, whether because of loopholes in the progression, inconsistencies in gameplay, brutally imbalanced resource requirements, or hyper-specific progression bottlenecks that are usually gated behind "exploration" (and by that I mean several hours of walking to find an incredibly rare plant that's required to progress). Just before buying, I had actually just given up on a TerraFirmaCraft modpack that was giving me *actual eye strain* from hours of scouring the landscape for copper deposits. But I'm incredibly impressed with where the game is currently at. Not perfect, but very promising. Can't wait for 1.18's full release.
@@clockwork_mind I'm so glad you're enjoying it! 1.18 is actually finally out as a stable release now, and the new world generation is GORGEOUS. It also adds wooden beams as decorative building items which open up so many possibilities. If you've got your bearings, I'd recommend updating and trying out the new version! And if you're looking for nice folks to play with, my patron servers are open from just $1 a month, and the people on there are really lovely. :D Have fun!
@@SecretFoxfire okay, at it turns out, I've been playing 1.18.0 this whole time and just wasn't paying attention. 😂 Considering the massive mountain range I'm living next to, I'm confident that it's working. Also the patron servers are super tempting. Unfortunately $21 was already more than I should have spent on a game right now, so I can't justify even the $1/month at the moment. But I will keep that in mind for the future if my situation improves!
i think it was a mixture that this game is so immersive and thorough and that you have one of the most pleasantly calming voices i've ever heard, but i fell asleep in my chair watching this. this game seems like a genuine delight and watching you plan things out and have so much fun is a lot more interesting than most youtubers i see these days. please do more days of this 🤞💙
I hadn't heard about Vintage Story before this video showed up in my feed, and now I'm pretty sure I'm going to buy it. And the reward at the end made me glad I stuck around.
loved every second of this, i was debating on wether to even get this game but after seeing the amount of depth and passion in the gameplay it’s easily persuaded me. Amazing video and well edited, i can tell this took many hours to make 😅
Minecraft player: spawns near a cave, gets iron armor and tools withing 10 minutes of making a new world. Vintage player: "my goal for this 100 days playthrough is to get full metal armor". I love this game
this video rules, you actually got me interested in a game ive never heard of - much less played - before. the timing and dramatic irony between your narration and in-game commentary is very funny !
Never seen you, your content, or any of your videos, but I found this video because I love Vintage Story, and I'm genuinely feeling rewarded for watching the entire video. I enjoy how you presented the game and the fun you made along the way. If you ever do this again, I'll be there for it, because I'm subbing for sure.
Never heard of vintage story before, but this vid popped up in my recommended. Not only is this a wonderful vid with great commentary, the game itself looks really fun. This feels like a brilliant introduction to the game, great job!
I've never heard of this game before this video, idk how I ended up here but man, you have my attention on this game now. It seems like a Minecraft from another dimension, looks complex and fun.
Thank you to everyone for watching, and for the many very kind comments you have left. Have a wonderful day!
TFC is better tho
Glad to hear that you are working on another video!
Hope it'll showcase resonance archive content and more lore!
I'll say that all this attention, probably very welcome to you, comes from Rimmy and his group of friends running their RP server. Never heard of this game until now, and this was the 1st video (aside from a full playlist) that showed up. It's a brand new audience to what appears to be a quite "underground" game.

If you played terra firma craft mod on 1.12.2 or 1.18.2 then it is easier to get used to this game
I'm so used to watching and playing Minecraft content that seeing a game that looks and feels like it, but isn't. And watching someone speak so confidently about the mechanics, etc is such a bizarre treat. Its like watching an alternate universe to a degree. Loved every second of this!
Well the game IS based on minecraft, majority of the mechanics are drawn from a mod called "Terrafirmacraft", which massively revamps minecraft.
@@Skrymaster to be accurate it's based on Vintagecraft which aimed to be a less survivalistic version of TFC as far as i understand
@@rory0233 No, the people who made terrafirmacraft did not make this game.

Subbed!
Thank you for watching! I'm so glad you enjoyed it.

So glad to have introduced new people to this awesome game! Good luck against the drifters (and if the stone-throwing in more recent game versions annoys you as much as me, there's a simple mod to get rid of it)!

Forgot to say this 2 years ago but thank you for this vid been playing this when i can but absolutely love this game
What a beautiful video! I watched it all, laughed a ton, and I enjoyed seeing how you set the soundtrack to various scenes. By the end I was feeling a bit emotional at the scene where you were reflecting on everything you had built, haha
Best of luck on your game design journey.
Im very tempted to get this game to try and relive that magic I felt learning Minecraft for the first time
This is my first time hearing about Vintage story so you explaining some basic stuff and talking about small details is super fun.
The skills you learn can transfer over, and you'll actually have enough time to do everything in a day and won't be forced to only chop wood in the winter, or just huddle in the dark until you manage to get a bed.
its usually pretty hard to keep videos this long interesting but i found this delightfully calm :) was a joy yo watch!! keep it up!!
Thanks so much! I'm glad you enjoyed it. :D
And don't worry, you'll get the hang of the game before you know it. ;D
11/10 held me over while my friend was figuring out his 1.18.2 modded server
Hey, I just wanted to say this was a wonderful video. Your humor was really nice and enjoyable. It's got me buying the game and trying it!
ive heard vaguely of this game recently, but not much--i clicked this video with the vague intent to watch a bit before going off to do chores, but i was instantly hooked and settled in to watch the rest of it. despite knowing very little about the game, its a very accessible video and im immediately intrigued. great work :D
(also, hell yeah vintage beef)
The borax reenactment was 10/10 for me 😂 But honestly good job! I enjoyed this video so much that it felt like it was only 15-20min long--not 1.5 hours! Looking forward to more Vintage Story content!
I ran into this video knowing absolutely nothing about Vintage Story, now me and two of my friends are all playing. Amazing video, thank you for introducing us to an amazing game!
Well you convinced me to buy the game, I hope your pleased with yourself.
as a fellow "my wrists are always hurting"
good luck. and yes. changing that setting makes sense, especially in that situation
I've been putting off watching this all week because I wanted to really take it all in and enjoy it, and you certainly delivered !! I would love to see another 100 days but I can only imagine how hard this was to record and edit. I love your style of commentary so I hope you make more videos in the future :D (also, 1:10:01 the way u said sauerkraut was so wholesome!!)
Edit: Just realized this video is much older than I thought it was !!
From the base itself to the smelting and kiln area and such, i feel like i could take inspiration for when i play similar games.
this is like if don't starve and minecraft got fused into one really cool looking game!
What a fantastic video! Ive been interested in this game for a bit but I always put it off as just another minecraft, but seeing how in depth the survival aspect is made me really wanna get it! This video was a joy to watch, I hope you make more of this!
Im probably not your target audience but this is so entertaining! This it super well made too !! Youre VERY underrated and deserve more :)
I love this game and am happy to see more people play it
I've been trying to get more people to play it for years. Isn't it great?
this is an amazingly well put together video and was a joy to watch (apart from the obnoxious static transitions on day 98 that destroyed youtubes compression) im gona have to go and play this game for myself now!
@@SecretFoxfire great to hear! I'm subbed for it!
But I will keep that in mind for the future if my situation improves!
amazing video, hope this will blow up in some time
Thanks for watching! I'm glad you enjoyed it.
i think it was a mixture that this game is so immersive and thorough and that you have one of the most pleasantly calming voices i've ever heard, but i fell asleep in my chair watching this. this game seems like a genuine delight and watching you plan things out and have so much fun is a lot more interesting than most youtubers i see these days. please do more days of this 🤞💙
this was truly a Vintage Story™
I hadn't heard about Vintage Story before this video showed up in my feed, and now I'm pretty sure I'm going to buy it. And the reward at the end made me glad I stuck around.
Definitely a significantly harder game for the 100 days challenge.
loved every second of this, i was debating on wether to even get this game but after seeing the amount of depth and passion in the gameplay it’s easily persuaded me.
Amazing video and well edited, i can tell this took many hours to make 😅
that was a great video, you deserve more subs ngl
Minecraft player: spawns near a cave, gets iron armor and tools withing 10 minutes of making a new world.
Vintage player: "my goal for this 100 days playthrough is to get full metal armor".
I love this game
i know comment is not much but i very enjoyed this video and i wish you wonderful day:)
A comment like this brings a big smile to my face. Thank you so much! I'm glad you enjoyed the video. :D
@@SecretFoxfire :) debating to get the game when savings permit , looks quite fun. , always out there to look for fun indie games
this video rules, you actually got me interested in a game ive never heard of - much less played - before. the timing and dramatic irony between your narration and in-game commentary is very funny !
How do we get a sequel?
Can confirm I also found that same ruin. It reminded me to always check underneath them. Sometimes you find amazing stuff!
watched all of it, please make a follow up video!
hehe realised i just watched all of it again
Never seen you, your content, or any of your videos, but I found this video because I love Vintage Story, and I'm genuinely feeling rewarded for watching the entire video. I enjoy how you presented the game and the fun you made along the way. If you ever do this again, I'll be there for it, because I'm subbing for sure.
Why bro so zesty
Stumbled upon your channel and I enjoyed this. It was like a small, very informative documentary. ❤
