*Video Patch Notes 1.01* -Regarding #6, Placidusax's Ruin is *not* a Dragon Communion incantation. Still waiting on Fromsoft to properly explain to us why that is. (jessicalenore8258) -Regarding #201, Sacrificial Axe's FP regen procs if the weapon is equipped, meaning you don't necessarily have to kill enemies with it. (robertmcpherson138) -Regarding #260, Beast-Repellant torch technically works on snails as well. Double-checking to make sure it doesn't work on bats but there's literally footage in the video of a bat attacking me with this torch in-hand. (Ewing_Klipspringer, reyditrinus3562) -Regarding #280, the Clawmark Seal does find a comfortable niche with pure-strength builds, accompanied with the low FTH requirement of Bestial incants. It just gets lost in a sea of more flexible options, but that really doesn't make it a bad seal despite where I placed it. You could kill shit with a toothpick in this game if you wanted. (Vorael, drakeking6745) If you noticed anything else, please use this comment as a bulletin board.
How did the Darkmoon Greatsword [#51] stack up in terms of its actual qualities as a weapon? The glowstick joke was excellent, but I was a little sad about the absence of that dank analysis.
iron balls has some serious damage in a pure strength + buffs build. it's charged heavy and heavy strings come out quick. Also darkmoon greatsword has some s tier pve damage output
the only weapon that i think might be missing is the Frozen Needle, i didn't see it anywhere on the list but i've also been sleep-deprived both times I watched the video and i think i fell half-asleep through the exact same section before the magma blade twice in a row edit: disregard, its #157 at 1:17:33
Surprised to not see Executioner's Greataxe taking the top spot but when I watched his reason for it not being top 10 listing the abysmal droprate I can see that being fair as a dealbreaker for a lot of people. Quite a shame cause it's basically just a standard greataxe with higher crit mod and better reach. Having a lot of fun with mine. Roar medallion + war cry makes heavy attacks hit so hard it almost feels like cheating
You mentioned how weird it is about the Sword of St. Trina being Int and the Torch being Faith, but the Sleep Pots (also tied to Miquella as St. Trina) scale with Arcane!
That's what I am thinking that Miquella will be a boss fight which uses fuck load of great and maniac spells. Imagine Miquella saying " O' my dear Mogh, Lend me thy power" while nihiling to us and creating Comet Azur gaisers same time
7 reasons why the Noble's Slender Sword is the best weapon in the game. 1 - It has the Longsword moveset, which is the best moveset. Forget those penniless pretenders with their fancy weapon arts, explosions, teleports and all that voodoo. You are nobility. Your puissance is yours alone, your weapon is just an accessory to that. 2 - It is looooong. A whole peasant's hand longer than those filthy longswords the soldiers use. Long weapons have long hitboxes. Poke your dissidents before they can dirty your attire. Then laugh at them for being poor. 3 - It gets top of the line in Dexterity scaling and takes exceptionally well to elemental infusions, for those with discriminating taste. Strength builders can even get it up to A, just please use Soap first. As if you were the type to get into fisticuffs anyway - that's what summons are for! 4 - It has 110 crit modifier, because people who parry a lot are just better than everybody else. Backstabbing, too, is very appropriate for a nobleman. 5 - It has rock bottom requirements. Even your noodly-armed Astrologers and Bandits can pick it up right away, without wasting points in Strength like a pack animal. Being an aristocrat is easy. 6 - It looks absolutely balling and is a necessity in any fashionable build. Forget the gauchely decorated Rogier's Rapier with its inhuman Dexterity requirement, it just smacks of new money. This refined, elegant weapon is coated in the timeless glamour of gold, conveying the splendor that is yours by birthright. 7 - It is an ultra rare drop from the few enemies who carry it. You can farm for hours, grinding hundreds and thousands of Nobles into paste without ever seeing it. Only the luckiest and most privileged aristocrat-killers may own this opulent deathstick. That's you. You won. Congratulations, winner.
You missed that the Golden Epitaph actually adds flat holy damage onto just about everything, and it can make Elden Stars disappointing instead of comically awful. In all seriousness it does help juice up other holy damage options. (You would be forgiven for missing this effect in a video ranking every single weapon)
That everything effect does in fact mean _Everything_. On my sorceror run, it added a small bit onto my Terra Magica, which had the unfortunate effect of dinging me every few frames for a tiny amount of damage; just enough to flinch me out of my spellcasting.
@@palebloodgamer3456it's not as strong as it sounds, because last rites is an aura buff which means it doesn't stack with the likes of golden vow. Even for builds that capitalise on multi hit spells you're better off just using golden vow. Plus boosting existing damage is better than adding another type because defense gets applied to each damage type. And if that's not enough, holy is arguably the least useful damage type in the game outside of undead because most late game and rune bearing bosses have a massive 40% holy negation.
Rusty, you absolute madman. Huge respects to you for actually pushing forward and doing this. No one else would have even dared to do it as in depth as you have here. Cheers.
Wait wait wait, hol’up. I might have some good news for you. Look up Rav the Avatar. Trust me. You don’t need to know anything about it beforehand. Just enjoy. ❤
I have made it a habit to just go get bloody slash on the way to greyoll since I end up having to go there for the medallion, but yeah, anything is better than the flail
@@Mare_Man All classes have a max of 1-5 levels needed in order to use Reduvia, that's the equivalent of 1, maybe 2, graveyard visits and there's a graveyard right next to the first caelid bonfire and another one on your way to Greyroll. It'd be faster to use Reduvia since you can get the reqs for it on your way to Greyroll instead of going all the way down to the Morning Star then all the way up to Greyroll. Not to mention you can very easily respec to get rid of excess arcane.
Sadly he butchered the Flamberges name and didn´t mention its additional bleeding damage. The real flamberge was designed with that flame shape to inflict immense flesh wounds to its enemy.
What an absolute BANGER of a video. Zero regrets watching it all at once. You managed to make 2hr 40mins feel like half the time and remained thoroughly entertaining and informative throughout. 100/10
This is a fucking terrible list. I’ve liked Rusty’s stuff for a while but I just can’t get behind it. A lot of these picks are just personal preference but some of this shit could be classified as misinformation.
@@DeadSparkMan The three that really stick out and ruin this list are the Darkmoon Greatsword at 51, the Blasphemous Blade at 37, and Vyke’s spear at 1. Darkmoon and Blasphemous are the top 2 PVE weapons in the game. They’re incredible. For neither one to be in S tier, let alone being placed as low as they were, is just dumb. I get that this is also a PVP list and those weapons aren’t as good in pvp, but I don’t see how you can have weapons that dominate one half of the game (arguably the more important half), and have them ranked this low. And the fact he didn’t even bother to elaborate on the dark moon Greatsword is just stupid. Did he not have anything to say to justify him putting it that low? Vyke’s spear being S tier I can get but #1? It’s biggest attribute is literally useless in PVE, where it’s entirely outclassed as a great spear by Mohgwyn. It’s only benefit over Mohgwyn is that you can get it easier. I get that madness is strong in PVP but I don’t see how a weapon with such a huge gap in quality between pvp and PVE can be #1. If the argument for darkmoon and blasphemous being as low as they are is that they’re only good in one mode, than that should go both ways. These are only 3 picks but there are more I have trouble with. Grafted blade and Marais being higher than the sword of night and flame contradicts his legendary weapons video, without any explanation as to why he changed his mind. Rivers of Blood is too low. Yes it got nerfed, I get that it’s not a top tier weapon now, but it’s still good. Having it in the bottom half of the list is just dumb. If it was in like the 120s I’d get it more but it’s in the fucking 170s. There are others too but I’ll stop here.
It speaks volumes to the sheer killing power of many weapons when the #86 weapon managed to carry me all the way not just through the game but against malenia too. What a phenomenal set of weapons this game has. Not as tightly condensed as Bloodborne but easily some of the most viable in variety.
@@Rusty._ I hope I speak for a lot of us when I say we appreciate the effort. I bet 100 down through 10 was quite challenging to actually rank. You are the best list maker in the game.
I used the grave scythe throughout the entire game and by god that thing combined with the stormcaller ash of war and quality attunemny was bloody insane.
Really? As many good weapons as there are, I still find myself resenting the filler that a lot of the weapons in the game represent. There are so many entire dungeons where the loot, boss and gimmick are all redundant, and the number of weapons feels like a symptom of that bloat.
It made going through the Lake of Rot much less annoying, getting the Tree Sentinel armour was cake (just stand half way out of the tunnel where the chariot rides over you and use Margit's shackle, destroying the chariots + awarding the gear) and the sewers a breeze.
Fun fact about zamor curved sword ash, unlike the sorcery you actually can’t get interrupted while doing the ice storm making it so much better than the sorcery. It also doesn’t require magic the damage scales with weapon upgrade making it a versatile pic for any build
having tried out the banished knights greatsword for the past two weeks i must say you completely undersold it in this rank list, bro. this baby took me all the way through the game and the blood of every single demigod (and god) in the game stains its blade. it has the same move set as the inseparable sword but none of its limitations (aka you can dedicate fully to strength and slap heavy affinity on it, which is what i did). once the moveset grows on you, its very hard to go back to the standard clumsy greatsword moveset. ironically, i only figured how great this sword is because i was looking to make myself a discount inseparable sword in my early game playthrough, and i was very positively surprised how much it trucks with sacred sword ash. so much so that i would say it far outperforms it. it also absolutely slaps with firestrike ash; dumping 1200+ damage in the span of 1.5 seconds catches everyone off guard in pvp because they can't tell the difference between firestrike and catch flame (which is what they _think_ i'm trying to use) so when that followup mega slash hits them outta nowhere they ALWAYS panic roll. the only downside i have experienced is its somewhat medium reach, but its cousin "knight's greatsword" (which also has the same move set) covers that niche for a minor damage tradeoff.
I think you missed that the Beast-Repellent Torch also works on Basilisks. The ability to render Basilisk swarms non-hostile alone makes it my go-to torch for any playthrough.
Also for both that and the Sentry torch, you can put it ON YOUR BACK (by two-handing your main-hand weapon), which means you are NOT stuck with the Sentry torch's weapon art at all. So there's no reason NOT to use either of them. Unless you prefer a shield, I guess, or a staff or seal in that off-hand.
@@Angi_Mathochistrealized that for those torches a couple playthroughs ago and it’s a total game changer. Makes caelid, basilisks and the invisible black knife assassins a walk in the park
I cannot be more exited for this, he finally did it, I am unbridled with joy, unfathomably so, I am enlightened to all the good in the world, I am provided with an incomprehensible sense of euphoria, truly. This is like seeing Sisyphus actually finish pushing the boulder, he can finally rest, and everyone shall applaud this insane accomplishment. One must imagine Rusty happy.
1:01:43 Something you forgot to mention is that the spellcasting speed buff applies to incantations as well, but the FP increase does not. This means it an absolutely amazing offhand for incantation builds.
@@salmonella7993 This man doesn't even know how ashes of war are scaling or anything about the game at all. The ranking list is useless. He doesn't know how the game works this list is dumb
nice transition on the alabastor lords sword! there is something really cool about seeing such attention to detail in such a long video. good work as always
One good thing about the glintstone staff: there is a noble that stands by himself a short distance away from Sellen's starting spot that has a 100% chance of dropping the staff the first time you kill it in a playthrough. Good for people who started as a wretch and want a quick and easy staff before replacing it with the superior demi human queen's staff. Edit: People in the comments are saying there's a noble that's actually a rune bear in disguise that is also close to Sellen's starting spot. I've never personally confirmed this, but this noble and the other noble are two completely different nobles.
@@卛 Not OP, but I'm pretty sure that particular noble will turn into a rune bear if you attack him. He does drop a larval tear though, and is IIRC the earliest you can get one of those.
I’m so happy to see the Claymore so high up. I’ve loved that weapon and its moveset since Dark Souls 1. The simple addition of an R2 stab instead of a slam, and the option to two-hand it for vertical slashes, feels so versatile.
Bro I adore the Claymore. Been using it since DS1 because of Oroboro's play more with the Claymore video back in the day. I love a simple ass sword ass sword that has a little bit of everything sometimes.
Funny thing is, the Square Off Ash of War is so good that even the Cane Sword does very well with it. Sadly, we lost the VOD footage of GinoMachino's Cane Sword Only No Hit Run.
Here we go with people overrating square off again. My brother in christ, is the best option on STRAIGHT SWORDS and straight swords without powerstancing sucks ass
@@nolongeraperson he's still right though (at least on the part where SO is overrated), half the comment section on one of Rusty's previous videos was just people glazing square off because he put it low in the AoW tier list. I agree with this because in the grand scheme of things, and looking beyond a world outside of straight swords and purely stance damage, Square off lacks utility of other AoWs, let alone the AoWs of certain unique weapons (Even at that there's uniques like Dynast's finesse that does stance break even better than SO does).
I gave this video a thumbs up before I even saw it. Just cause when I saw it almost 3 hours long and knowing how long it takes to examine all of this information + editing! Props 💯
The arguement of the school boost being worse than a higher scaling staff doesn’t apply to loss specifically. At 80 int/80 fth it deals more night comet damage than princes staff.
Honestly, after this you definitely deserve a break. But if there MUST be another list/ranking after this? I just wanna see a list of your favorite powerful and unique builds you've made for this game. With all this knowledge and experience acquired you must have some deeply fun and satisfying play-styles you've done and a video where you can gush non-stop about your favorites might be a good palette cleanse and otherwise easier video to do compared to all the other rankings thus far.
6 months later an I've found a use for Ivory Sickle. If you don't meet the Intelligence requirement, you can quickstep through heavy swamps without using FP. This is probably true for every quickstep weapon you can't properly use, but it's real easy to not have 13 Int.
HOLY SHIT YOU ACTUALLY WENT AND DID IT I lack the words to describe just how funny it is that no other content creator I know would ever even get close to doing something like this, yet here we are, sat in front of a nearly 3 hour video ranking every single weapon, oh boy this is going to be FUN
Big respect for this project. Can't be easy ranking so many things, and you just KNOW someones gonna take it too real when you dunk on some random shitty weapon.
Got my disagreements - Clawmark Seal comes to mind, but my GOD what a great video. Incredible production, footage, and most impressively your consistency in your own criteria for ranking. You really understand why subjective review is still so popular and how to present your case with style and humor. Love it.
It's literally better than finger seal and available for free at pretty much the same stage, idk also what it is with the complaint about the scaling, with 30 str and faith up to 50 it always outperformed erdtree seal And rock throw is an insane incant to boost
My issue Was The Vulgar Militia Saw. I Ran A Build With It On My First Play Through, And Good Lord - Was It OP. I Bled An Omen With A Single Jump Attack With The blood Affinity... I Also Used It Since I Was Farming Dragon Barrow Vulgar Militia For Runes... With Ever Finding Out It Was Only One Step Behind The Mogwin Rune Farm. Used Because 'Serrated Butchering Knife On A Stick'
clawmark seal feels very misplaced considering how valuable its niche is as a primarily strength-scaling talisman, but the biggest thing i wanna remind people of is that pretty much every weapon in C Tier and above is 100% usable. D Tier weapons typically under-perform but can still work if you put in some extra work. that and bleed is so powerful that you can imagine basically any infusable weapon with innate bleed (EXCEPT FLAILS) as a full tier higher than its placement on the list if you spec for it. edit: if any seal is deserving of the title of "worst" it's absolutely the frenzied flame seal. i don't care that it has like the third highest scaling or whatever, you need to get to lvl 80 on literally every stat to get the full benefit of it, its fucking dogwater
Ye ff seal is terrible, frenzied burst is the only ff incantation one would be running normally and you don't really need to improve it's damage. Also it's the hardest seal to reach besides giant's and that one has a wider usage and it's not really hidden
@@alternanzafatemonogatari4868 It's better then finger seal if all you intend to do with it is use bestial vigor and maybe a few other buff spells that require 15 faith or less. If you're going for faith in any appreciable amount, the finger seal is still much better.
The Clawmark Seal is amazing, as it scales with strength, not faith. Therefore, it lets you cast based on your strength, not your faith. If you are doing a Beast build (I did a NG+ run as one) using it, all the best incantations, and the Cinqueada and Bestclaw great hammer, it lets you cast and scales based off your 80 strength, saving you from investing in Faith.
Only seal I use unless I am running a pure arcane dragon build. I think all around clawmark is the best seal in the game due to versatility and accessibility.
The Staff of Loss was massively underrated here. It’s buff to Night sorceries is a whopping 30% increase, the only other staff with a 30% buff to a spell type if the meteor staff’s 30% to gravity sorceries, but the meteor staff cannot be upgraded while the Staff of Loss can, allow it to become far stronger. This 30% buff also stacks multiplicatively to a 69% buff if you wield two of them. To top it off the spells that this staff upgrades, the night sorceries, are pretty good. They’re not the highest base damage ever but with that 69% they out damage most other spells, don’t cost much FP and are fast to cast. To top it off they’re invisible, meaning bosses make no effort to dodge them. I use the Staff of Loss on my sorcerer build and first tried every boss in the game, Malenia was dead before she even got to hit me once, it’s easily the strongest staff in the game and is super easy to use.
Straight up, Staff of Loss + Night Comet trivializes virtually the entire game. The combination of being able to get it super early in the game before facing any boss at all, with it ruining enemy AI because they cannot dodge or react to it, and its high damage output, as well as the fact it's ranged so you don't even need to block or dodge many encounters, it's just ridiculous. I've yet to find an easier NG run then this combo. All the other OP shit is mid to late game or requires NG+ What people also need to realize is that it doesn't need 2 staff of loss and the spell damage buffs to make it work. I ran through NG specifically with only Physick and Talisman's as my spell buffs, so that I wouldn't have to pre-buff before any fight. The only bosses that were annoying were Rykard but we all know the solution to that, and EB which genuinely was annoying to deal with because of FP flask management. Though that's the other key point, people can use this setup as a support off-hand while using any of the many amazing Int scaling melee weapons this game has. Moonveil, DM GS, Night and Flame, there are so many good ones. Oh also, Ambush Shard is another good Night Sorcery to be used against big knights with big shields.
To be fair, he DID address all of this in his sorceries/staff videos. He’s simply taking into account the fact that it ONLY works when you wield 2 and only use one spell. There are 70+ sorceries or something in the game. Why lock yourself out of everything else. That’s why it’s rated low. Not because it’s not nichely overpowered, but because it’s just not flexible and not objectively fun.
2:14:22 I think it's worth mentioning that the tree spear is buffable, like with spells. This means you can throw sacred blade (the incantation) on it and reach ludicrously high levels of holy damage, making it the uncontested strongest faith weapon in the game by pure damage. At the cost of not using the ash of war you can climb up to 600 holy damage at the same time as the solid physical damage, and that's without any of the non-weapon buffs you are going to use as a faith build.
I also use the tree spear, what I love most about it is once you hit the minimum specs for it including stamina you still have a decently useful weapon and can focus on faith to have good damage on your incantations. Plus you can use the lightning incantation on it to get some nice damage for a minute or 2.
The pickaxe landing #20 simultaneously shocked the hell out of me and filled my heart with joy. I was starting to think I had missed its entry and would have to dig through the past two hours to find it. I definitely don't utilize its fullest potential, but God do I love that weapon.
Well done sir, well done. My only gripe would be with the clawmark seal. You are correct that it does not keep up with other seals for scaling, but it isnt supposed to. Its for nearly pure strength builds to have some spell/ranged options.
absolutely factual, it's a decent seal for strength builds because of that bit of strength scaling, and it allows the beastial incantations to do more damage and they're not too bad in pvp
This, in a pure strength build you don't have that much faith, but at say 60 strength and maybe 15 faith it gives you access to great incants like flame grant me strength, and stone of gurranq and still able scale with your stats
Speaking of strength, the vular militia shotel not only gets a B in dex on it's lightning affinity, but it even gets a B in str on fire affinity. Which means two-handing the thing boosts the physical and fire damage by a B str scaling.
The Noble Sorcerer that's located at the ruins between Waypoint Ruins and the camp where you find the Royal House Scroll has a 100% drop rate for the Glintstone Staff.
WINGED SCYTHE KEY: unless they changed it in one of the two recent patches, the anti-flask is actually more of a heal block. A HEAL. BLOCK. I wondered why i had such an easier time with malenia than like everyone i know and this is why. I didn't even know she had a passive heal bc I was to busy wacking her with beautifully designed kryptonite
Puts blasphemous blade at 37 cuz it does fire damage but puts Vykes war spear at 1… a weapon that also does fire damage and is just inherently worse in almost every single PvE situation minus a handful of bosses and invasions
@@dogmat8733 so you’re basically saying his only reason to put it over 30 spots higher than BB is cuz he prefers spears? Like huh? I prefer twin blades. Easily my favorite weapon type but I can recognize that majority of the Twinblade aren’t that amazing unless you run bleed or frost In no world should vykes war spear be one and it’s ash of war is mainly a PvP ash
I appreciate the story being told in the skits of these weapon ranking videos, I don't have the int to understand it, but I appreciate the effort you put into them
Something that I think gets overlooked by everyone is the fact that Cipher Pata and Coded Sword's light attack don't ding against walls which works wonders in tight spaces
Something else to keep in mind about greatstars is that you can power stance them without needing NG+ thanks to the npc magnus you can invade dropping it as well as the one you loot from the chest.
At first I clicked on this video with the full intent of just skipping straight to S tier for the best weapons, and I did. Just from the quality of the video, the humor, the cinematography, I’ve decided to to watch the entire video as if it’s a movie. I’m actually blown away with this video. You definitely earned my sub.
1:28:10 the Banished Knight GS is notable in that it shares the moveset of the Mirrah GS that Lucatiel wielded in DS2. I love using it because of its artful swings.
The Frenzied Flame seal doesn't lock you into the Frenzied Flame ending, you can use Miquella's Needle in Placidusax's arena to reverse it. I'm only saying this to mask how impressed I am by this video. Top tier stuff
I think the bigger issue with it is that it does lock you in the ending. Unless you're willing to go through the hardest area and beat the hardest boss while also not screwing up an NPC's quest line. On top of the fact you gotta find Placidusax after all that anyway..
Fun fact for the Misericorde: if you infuse it with Fire, it actually gets better total scaling than with keen. Backstabs and criticals also hit an interesting breakpoint with the dagger talisman where the split damage no longer serves as a problem because the game makes split scaling weapons IGNORE defense once their damage gets high enough, something that as far as I know only a stab with the misericorde can do.
The consistent astuteness and agreeability of this list is incredible, not to mention its sheer scale. But BRUHHH the Clawmark is the absolute cornerstone of STR/FTH builds. Like, this is one of the most popular and effective setups, it's not a limited niche we're splitting hairs over. Clawmark is arguably almost *too* good considering what it does for STR in terms of versatility and utility. Its absolute floor is A tier.
Clawmark isn't great because Clawmark is great, it's great because you're running Str/Fth anyway and you're being rewarded for it. On its own it's the second-worst catalyst, it sucks for casting heals and buffs, the boost to bestial incantations is only 10% (even if pocket sand and The Rock are pretty decent), it's just that the stat spread is great. Pure Faith builds can have iffy weapon choices depending on where you stop leveling Str/Dex, Int/Fth has few options and Arc/Fth has fewer, and the fact that Frenzied Flame Seal is _technically_ the Dex/Fth option says it all.
Me too! I was waiting for it just to get nice glowstick bro. I’m using it in my playthrough right now and to me it’s really really strong with the right talismans so I thought it’d be a lot higher and more said about it so I wonder why it’s ranked where it is
@@ryancochling4806 Plenty of other tier lists put it at S tier, among the top 3 (sometimes #1) intel weapons. Tbh, I think he's just underrating it. It deserves top 25 minimum.
Honestly those little scenario tidbits at the beginning and end were pretty cool, but you could tell it was a metaphor for making such lists, and that becoming the list guy was not that easy on Rusty.
@@DeadSparkMan I think the elden beast in the skit is supposed to represent the youtube "algorithm" as a whole since youtube really likes to make creators feel like they aren't doing enough, or at least that's what I got from it
The Elden beast in game embodies the Greater Will and the Golden Order, both of which are beings/organizations which are based on a worldview in which true free will is a unavoidable sin at best, and an undesirable error in the perfect and harmonious mathematics of the universe at worst. The golden order has a bunch of incantations that deal with ideas of Order and mathematics in relation to faith and magic. The Elden beast is thus arguably a perfect embodiment of something like the UA-cam algorithm.
45:55 smooth af cut to a new clip with the same crit animation on a new mob love the little details that you put into the footage like that just makes watching you stuff that much better man especially with videos this long you didn’t have to put that extra effort into stuff like that but you did
The beast repellent torch does not only work on dogs and wolves. It also repels rats and BASILISKS, which makes it VERY useful for not getting deathed to death. Especially since it can be put on your back (two-hand your main-hand weapon) and still works. This causes most basilisks (/rats/wolves/rotten dogs/etc.) to just eye you with caution while you kill them one by one, rather than swarming and overwhelming you. I use it ALL the time in those areas for that utility. Sentry's torch: Again, you're wrong about being stuck with the torch attack, because you can PUT THE TORCH ON YOUR BACK (by two-handing your main weapon) and it still works. It is absolutely worthwhile, when you're not going to be using anything else in that hand anyway. Gelmir glintstone staff is actually pretty decent if you're doing both faith and int fairly equally, for early-to-mid game until Prince of Death's staff surpasses it. Soldier's crossbow: The thing is, why would you ever need to FARM soldiers? You're going to kill enough soldiers just going through Stormveil castle on a normal playthrough that you're pretty much guaranteed to have this crossbow by the time you're halfway through the castle. It's likely to be your first crossbow, and can fill in as your ranged option until you get something better. I think that's pretty much its intended purpose, since clearly it's the worst of the ranged weapons (except the harp bow, which exists only for novelty value). So many of these weapons exist only for novelty and collection value, and I cannot for the life of me understand why the game doesn't give us any way to display them. Why don't we get any kind of house or base with weapon stands or shelves to put these things on??? I do appreciate the convenience of being able to access everything in one place rather than having to search every chest in the map trying to remember where you left something, but a display area for the weapons and armors you really want to just DISPLAY would be really nice.
The other thing the Black Bow has going for it is the unique quick attacks you can do after Rolling as well, like the ds3 Composite bow. i've always found it so useful as you can get a quick shot off while rolling Away from an enemy
One thing that got overlooked is that the arcane scaling on the serpent bow allows also the arrows buildup to scale with your arcane, making it able to trigger poison instantly on some bosses in one mighty shot with an arcane build, and also the best to use bleed arrows. Even now with some really cool options to make use of poison in the DLC I still use it some times when I have skill issues because of how easy it is to just lock the target, press R2+L2 and trigger kindred of rot exultation
The Wing of Astel ranking is egregious. It actually has the highest poise damage on R2 outside of collossal weapons because the projectiles deal poise damage as well. This thing absolutely crunches anything that can be stance broken and it's only 2.5 lbs.
Agreed, I loved my play-through with this weapon. Since the nerf of Flame of the Redmane, the only other stance-break build I've enjoyed more is Misericorde w/ Glindblade Phalanx, and Clayman Harpoon w/ Ice Spear, almost broken.
If most of the orbs hit it absolutely melts large enemies, the stance damage is indeed great but i notice a lot of people sleep on the darkmoon greatsword because its charged heavy deals 35 stance damage plus the projectile deals a further 35 for a whopping 70 in one swing in melee range
@@CrappyCarput glintblade phalanx on another knife, and do royal knights resolve on the misericorde. You can use rkr preemptively before the phalanx fires. Way more damage
@@frazfrazfrazfraz That is a lot of weapon swapping, and I'm easily confused, but I may give it a try. The Glintblade Phalanx is mostly for stance damage, thanks for the tip.
Well written but not well ranked, some of his takes was inconsistent... Like how can blasphemous blade, dark moon great sword, nightrider glaves, etc below claws, I get it he had opinions about them but if so then it's a weird one.
Rusty is unironically my favorite content creator. You're amazing man. Props for the dedication you out in. We understand, after making something like this, you taking a break for awhile. You earned it
Good stuff. I just finished ng+7, working on "soft maxing" my character (all 80's lol). I wrote down about 20 weapons from this list that I either haven't collected yet (somehow) or had never considered using, but will now try out based on your commentary/recommendations. I'm a bit bored of all the standard "greats" and over-optimization, so I'm looking forward to freshening things up. Thanks for all the effort you put into your videos -- you keep me coming back to this game. Blessings.
I hear ya. I bust out my Night Comet setup when I don't feel like trying lol. Still cool to no longer have to respec to try new weapons or builds, and having all the passive resistances is nice.
I figured out the erdtree dagger. The dagger naturally scales physical damage with faith, and it doesn't lose that trait with infusions. So when flame art gives the weapon split fire and a faith scaling upgrade, it boosts both fire AND physical scaling. Meaning excellent returns.
@3:33 point of order! The whole point of the weathered straight sword is it only has a strength requirement of 8. Meaning the astrologer can have a straight sword to use without needing to put points into strength. (I discovered this while trying to recreate Iron Pineapple's glass cannon sorcerer build). ... A purpose which is completely undermined by the existence of the Carian Slicer spell, but still!
I never comment or post about any content I see from creators Im subbed with. But this my man was a staggering task that deserves every bit of praise it garners. Incredible piece of work and commitment!
Not gonna lie, some of these choices really have me confused: Blasphemous Blade at #37 because fire damage is affected by rain, yet the Cranial Vessel Candlestand is #14 when it does fire damage and has an Ash that locks you in place for a long time Not to mention that the #1 pick also does fire damage And the Wing of Astel, Bloodhounds Fang, and Dark Moon Greatsword deserve far higher placings (they're all at least top 25 weapons)
Yeah, I feel he might have placed the BB a bit lower just to be a bit contrarian considering it so often sits in the top 5 of people's best weapon lists...or this list is so insanely long he just lost track of the reasoning given for each weapon so it was a genuine mistake.
I mean the burst damage on the Cranial vessel against large creatures is impossible to deny and it does excellent damage even in rain. Also, BB being in the 90th percentile of good weapons is appropriate.
@@mergenocide I think part of the issue with this is the "staying consistent with prior lists" thing, and it's possible because the list was so long he just kind of puzzle pieced different lists together. idk
With a list this large, you've got to expect some individual inconsistencies just because there's so much to consider. The difference in performance for like +-30 tiers is pretty negligible.
I think most people assumed you would make individual ranking videos similar to the bows and daggers. Christ, I certainly did not expect a *literally every weapon* video for 2+hours! Take this $20 for some lunch or whatever, take my respect and please have a restful holiday month. I'm sure you'll need it after having taken the time to make this (whether you wanted to or not)! Cheers for the videos and reviews, and hope you and everyone here has a happy holidays!
26:15 Grafted Dragon has one thing people miss: It's heavy attack knocks over most things in two hits, leaving things open for everyone's favorite uppercut. Makes for a solid sidearm (head?) for a longer frostbite weapon.
@@psyo_nade3177 it always hits though smart one since the skeletons activate even if you die or get stunned as long as it's after I think the 4th frame on 60fps
You've got my respect for going forward with this, man, especially when you're honestly tried to go about it with as much integrity and humor as you've always put into your usual content. Regardless of what I feel about the occasional hair that I feel like splitting, you've 100% outdone yourself on sheer effort alone and I honestly feel like no one could or should demand any more of you.
As much of a joke these might have become, it's impressive that you give an opinion of each and every one, that's some determinations, thanks for giving in to our shenanigans, keep up the good work!
The grafted dragon is a stance breaking monster with it’s r2s, and the weapon art does pretty solid damage at close range while also looking badass. Putting a torch above it is just a crime.
Crazy to me how low you ranked the beastmans curved sword. It's literally a direct upgrade from the broadsword in every regard. Better scaling, better damage, better moveset, comparable weight, and honestly? Good looking too.
@@awanderer7132 and yet he ranked the slender sword stupid high despite its meh damage and okay scaling with a ridiculously low drop rate. Also beastkin aren't that hard to farm. I've used most every type of build. And if you're farming bcs, you should be fine. Str builds clobber beastmen poise easily
It‘s a great strategy against Malenia, since she hasn‘t got a lot of frost resistence. It is my first souls game and I‘m probably not a good player, but with Rannis Dark Moon and the Sword of Night and Flame I managed to get her down due to the gigantic damage.
@@ebbesand4214 A much easier to build option is to just use Freezing Pots or Volcano Pots, and focus on the other damage type on your weapon as befits your build.
Bloodhound’s fang was my go-to for the first couple playthroughs, totally happy to see it in top 100. I have a whole lot of experimenting to do it looks like
yeah on fifth myself and still using bloohound... did pull out godskin and a few others, some at the top of the list but for some reason there is a safety in the bloodhound, you know it will take out some pretty massive fellas and very quickly ... but I am with you maybe time to start exploring more and see what I am truly missing
Don’t be fooled by this list the bloodhounds fang is no joke the king of swords in elden ring that sword has little to no competition as it has high damage bleed and s all in one move.
@@imapro2597 if your takeaway from this man listing the merits and weaknesses of every single weapon in the game was “nah he’s actually wrong bloodhound’s fang is still the best weapon in the game” then I think it’s time to examine why you enjoy playing these games bc I think your world will open up if you consider other weapons Suiting one’s playstyle is one thing but shutting out every other weapon out of principle or stubbornness defeats the purpose of having so many great weapons in the first place
@@andrewdurst8455 or it could just be hard to capture the nuances of over 300 weapons and get all the details right in a single video. The bloodhound fang is incredibly strong. You get it early and it's strong enough to carry you through the entire game. Bleed, great AR, being faster than the other weapons in the same class, a somber weapon(low opportunity cost) and still buffable, so it can be used by pretty much any build. It's not the greatest weapon in the game, but it certainly is both stronger and more versatile than a bunch of the later entries in the list.
@@Windowsprodukt im not saying for a second that bloodhound’s fang isn’t fucking sick, it’s been my weapon of choice for half my runs of the game to date. If it were up to me I would ABSOLUTELY put it at the top of the list bc it suits myself and a lot of others perfectly. But coming to someone else’s subjective ranking of the 300 Elden ring weapons and seeing it in the 70s made me think “huh, there’s another 60+ reasons to play Elden ring again so I can see why this guy only ranks BHF in the 70s”, as opposed to “this list is a joke, BHF is clearly still the best weapon.” Obviously I’m interpreting this entire exchange in a really cynical way so I’m sorry but I don’t see the merit in watching some guy rank every Elden ring weapon if you’re really just watching it to see where your weapon of choice stacks up and then argue against its ranking in a list that you didn’t make. 10/10 times I’m putting BHF at number 1 in my own personal list… which I realize after watching this vid is maybe only 5 weapons long as opposed to literally hundreds. All I’m basically trying to say is seeing my favorite weapon be ranked in the top 100 by some guy stacking it against every other broken weapon in the game is a win, and I was inspired to try new weapons bc of the vid :)
*Video Patch Notes 1.01*
-Regarding #6, Placidusax's Ruin is *not* a Dragon Communion incantation. Still waiting on Fromsoft to properly explain to us why that is. (jessicalenore8258)
-Regarding #201, Sacrificial Axe's FP regen procs if the weapon is equipped, meaning you don't necessarily have to kill enemies with it. (robertmcpherson138)
-Regarding #260, Beast-Repellant torch technically works on snails as well. Double-checking to make sure it doesn't work on bats but there's literally footage in the video of a bat attacking me with this torch in-hand. (Ewing_Klipspringer, reyditrinus3562)
-Regarding #280, the Clawmark Seal does find a comfortable niche with pure-strength builds, accompanied with the low FTH requirement of Bestial incants. It just gets lost in a sea of more flexible options, but that really doesn't make it a bad seal despite where I placed it. You could kill shit with a toothpick in this game if you wanted. (Vorael, drakeking6745)
If you noticed anything else, please use this comment as a bulletin board.
It's a minor thing, but unless the wiki is wrong, then the Warpick does actually do pierce damage, despite what it says in-game.
i may be stupid
but did you not rank the sonaf?
How did the Darkmoon Greatsword [#51] stack up in terms of its actual qualities as a weapon? The glowstick joke was excellent, but I was a little sad about the absence of that dank analysis.
iron balls has some serious damage in a pure strength + buffs build. it's charged heavy and heavy strings come out quick. Also darkmoon greatsword has some s tier pve damage output
the only weapon that i think might be missing is the Frozen Needle, i didn't see it anywhere on the list but i've also been sleep-deprived both times I watched the video and i think i fell half-asleep through the exact same section before the magma blade twice in a row
edit: disregard, its #157 at 1:17:33

Surprised to not see Executioner's Greataxe taking the top spot but when I watched his reason for it not being top 10 listing the abysmal droprate I can see that being fair as a dealbreaker for a lot of people.
That puny handle/hilt makes it inferior to the longsword alone. Said it, meant it. 🙂

You missed that the Golden Epitaph actually adds flat holy damage onto just about everything, and it can make Elden Stars disappointing instead of comically awful. too bad he isn;t >:[
let's get the pitchforks, people
That everything effect does in fact mean _Everything_. On my sorceror run, it added a small bit onto my Terra Magica, which had the unfortunate effect of dinging me every few frames for a tiny amount of damage; just enough to flinch me out of my spellcasting.
Ngl 25 fkat damage per hit added to spells like azura comet or stars of ruin soumds like it cpuld go crazy

I have made it a habit to just go get bloody slash on the way to greyoll since I end up having to go there for the medallion, but yeah, anything is better than the flail
Reduvia would be a better option and is available at the same point as morning star. Reduvia's bleed procs are insanely fast on Greyroll.

This is a fucking terrible list. I’ve liked Rusty’s stuff for a while but I just can’t get behind it. A lot of these picks are just personal preference but some of this shit could be classified as misinformation.
@@BlackDT Elaborate on that. I'm willing to hear your points but you have to actually say them.
This list was extremely hard to organize for that reason. You could kill shit in this game with a toothpick if you wanted.

Rusty, the Beast Repellant Torch works against basilisks, so it's honestly extremely useful in certain locations.

@Ake-TL Well it works against snails but it doesn't work against bats.

Yeah but my whole play through I only fought basilisks a handful of times.
You absolute legend. Get your rest in. You've earned it tenfold, Rusty.
having tried out the banished knights greatsword for the past two weeks i must say you completely undersold it in this rank list, bro.
this baby took me all the way through the game and the blood of every single demigod (and god) in the game stains its blade.
it has the same move set as the inseparable sword but none of its limitations (aka you can dedicate fully to strength and slap heavy affinity on it, which is what i did). once the moveset grows on you, its very hard to go back to the standard clumsy greatsword moveset.
ironically, i only figured how great this sword is because i was looking to make myself a discount inseparable sword in my early game playthrough, and i was very positively surprised how much it trucks with sacred sword ash.
so much so that i would say it far outperforms it.
it also absolutely slaps with firestrike ash; dumping 1200+ damage in the span of 1.5 seconds catches everyone off guard in pvp because they can't tell the difference between firestrike and catch flame (which is what they _think_ i'm trying to use) so when that followup mega slash hits them outta nowhere they ALWAYS panic roll.
the only downside i have experienced is its somewhat medium reach, but its cousin "knight's greatsword" (which also has the same move set) covers that niche for a minor damage tradeoff.
I like that alternate 2h moveset so much.
I may be biased by the full playthrough of DS3 with the hollowslayer gs :).
It's my second playthrough (mage before) and i use this gorgeous sword on my strength build with fire sword dance. It's so powerful and beautiful
I think you missed that the Beast-Repellent Torch also works on Basilisks. The ability to render Basilisk swarms non-hostile alone makes it my go-to torch for any playthrough.
I loved this torch on my first playthrough, it saved my ass a bunch times! Especially with the basilisks!
I loved it my first playthrough and then I forgot about it my 2nd playthrough and hated every cave
I'm Sorry it can do WHAT?!

Got my disagreements - Clawmark Seal comes to mind, but my GOD what a great video. Incredible production, footage, and most impressively your consistency in your own criteria for ranking. You really understand why subjective review is still so popular and how to present your case with style and humor. Love it.
It's literally better than finger seal and available for free at pretty much the same stage, idk also what it is with the complaint about the scaling, with 30 str and faith up to 50 it always outperformed erdtree seal
And rock throw is an insane incant to boost
I think all around clawmark is the best seal in the game due to versatility and accessibility.
no way clawmark gets so much lower than frenzy seal. the frenzy seal has literally no usecase
Imo Night Comet is the only good Night sorcery. However, this thing freaking clears houses. You can easily no diff Malenia with it.
Double staff of Loss with Night Comet it's the meta for Mages
69% damage increase
Nice
To be fair, he DID address all of this in his sorceries/staff videos. He’s simply taking into account the fact that it ONLY works when you wield 2 and only use one spell. There are 70+ sorceries or something in the game. Why lock yourself out of everything else. That’s why it’s rated low. Not because it’s not nichely overpowered, but because it’s just not flexible and not objectively fun.
Mad respect man. For script, for patience, for jokes, everything. Good job.

It also has the greatest charged R2 out of any spear in the game
I came here to say that, it's for tossing rocks at annoying things in PvE. Solid choice for melee strength build utility.
Which means two-handing the thing boosts the physical and fire damage by a B str scaling.
well, these ranking is mostly for pvp... which is a shame. he should seperate pvp from pve

Puts blasphemous blade at 37 cuz it does fire damage but puts Vykes war spear at 1… a weapon that also does fire damage and is just inherently worse in almost every single PvE situation minus a handful of bosses and invasions
Vyke's highest scaling is Dex but the fire in the weapon art scales w Strength... Yeah he missed that one.

I demand respect for the battle axe. That weapon has carried me from Margit to the Elden Beast without failing. All hail the battle axe
While I haven't been using it in Elden Ring, it carried me through Dark Souls 1 until I got the Black Knight Sword

Omg it’s the Chaos Dagger situation from Dark Souls 3! That’s funny as hell wtf lol
Nuh uh
Nah, until you're using it to cast 13 faith buffs, two fingers seals does better
Y’all just have a problem with clawmark seal lol 💀💀💀

Me too! I was waiting for it just to get nice glowstick bro. I’m using it in my playthrough right now and to me it’s really really strong with the right talismans so I thought it’d be a lot higher and more said about it so I wonder why it’s ranked where it is
@@ryancochling4806 it's really strong, yeah. But it's very linear in terms of usage, and the later weapons have something that outclass it.

Isnt that just the shortbow moveset tho...

I haven’t laughed this hard in so long, and all for a weapon ranking vid, I love it
Not gonna lie, some of these choices really have me confused:
Blasphemous Blade at #37 because fire damage is affected by rain, yet the Cranial Vessel Candlestand is #14 when it does fire damage and has an Ash that locks you in place for a long time
Not to mention that the #1 pick also does fire damage
And the Wing of Astel, Bloodhounds Fang, and Dark Moon Greatsword deserve far higher placings (they're all at least top 25 weapons)
I haven't played Elden Ring for a while, I remembered that after River of blood got nerfed, BB became one of commonly seen sword.
