RIP Chain Casting in patch 1.05 (discussed at 4:32) Getting rid of this entirely instead of tweaking it is a mistake, in my opinion. Sometimes "glitches" can enhance the depth of your game, and this was the perfect example of one. Spellcasting is much more bland now.
I thought it was a feature considering it seemed to follow some kind of rough convention around which type of spell could be chain casted with what (although some 'chains' were outright bugged to not have an animation and/or a tiny hitbox, likely never intended) I used to chain Catch Flame into Magma Breath in pvp, which would catch a panic roll but was never by any means a true combo if you timed the roll slightly later - same thing with Swift Glintstone Shard into Comet
It really is unfortunate. Still, there are some spells and incantations that can be performed immediately after performing an action. To add on to the crouch melee, crouching before using the aforementioned spells and incantations is a good way to get the faster spell animations very quickly. Black Flame Blade is great for this since it's a great buff with such a sadly short buff time. Only 9 seconds or so. It's meant to be cast quickly, so crouching before buffing takes almost no time.
Exactly this! I took a break for about 2 weeks from it until yesterday. Not that I was taking it easy considering I was playing Dark Souls 3 and Bloodborne instead, lol. Taking the break was good for me, because when I went back I cleared the Murkwater Catacombs (so easy), explored Siofra River, and defeated the Ancestor Spirit boss (such a cool, gorgeous boss).
Here is a neat note: Margit's Shackle and Mogh's Shackle have a couple extra uses outside of their boss battles. They reveal illusionary walls within a radius, but also they lower and raise the flamethrower towers you find in catacombs within their radius, and since you need to hit a flamethrower tower in Auriza hero's grave, then you can use a shackle. You can stand in one of the holes beneath the 2 chariots and use it and watch as they get destroyed.
I did this by accident, I've been using the shackles to check for hidden walls in dungeons after Zullie pointed out this feature, and when I was in Azuria I threw it down only for the chariots to suddenly explode. It was very surprising lol. I didn't even realise there was a path underneath
Too bad he's not as smart as people think lol he should really get better info, didn't even say the crystal darts work on golems. we already know the imps watchdogs and golems are made from magic
ProTip for the Chariots - Use the Ash of War named "Raptor of the Mists". Its basically an on-demand and its such a massive quality of life upgrade for those catacombs.
A note on the weather "affecting spell damage" - it actually affects spell resistance. So rain doesn't make lightning spells stronger and fire spells weaker; it makes lightning resistance weaker, and fire resistance stronger. Also this happens to your character too, so you will be weaker to lightning spells while in the rain, and stronger to fire. Rolling in water does the same.
Clarifying further, it has nothing to do with spells, it is all fire and lightning damage regardless of source, including ashes of war and elemental weapon infusions, thrown pots, perfumes and what have you. There are 2 separate and stackable ways to get the effect, standing in water and being wet. You are wet if it is raining, or if you use a dodge roll in water or some kind of attack or effect douses you in it. So, if it is raining OR you stand in water, fire damage goes down and lightning goes up. If you are both standing in water AND it is raining, you get even weaker fire/even stronger lightning. And if it is not raining, but you roll in water and then walk out of the water afterwards, you will still get the fire nerf and lightning buff for as long as you are wet, even after getting back onto dry land. Basically, if there's any water of any kind near you it is best to assume that the effect applies. You can also check your status screen to see how much these resitances change.
@@Mythodyn Yeah there is. Reducing resistance by 10% results in more damage taken, compared to if you were to buff the damage dealt by 10%. As an example: 600 damage + 10% for a total of 660 damage - 50% resistance means a total of 330 damage dealt. 600 damage against 40% resistance however ends up with a total of 360 damage dealt. It's a very minor difference, but still, a difference it is.
@@JustinL614 It does not, no. In general reducing resistances by an equal amount will lead to more damage in most cases, but some enemies with absurdly high resistances in the first place will barely give a damage increase.
About the spell dodge on enemies: since they're just reading your input and not actually reacting to the projectile, you can get them to dodge into your spell with a bit of practice. The longer the windup of your ranged attack, the easier it is to perform. I find it particularly strong on ice spear
It really annoys me how the enemy reactions in this are immediate button input reads. Makes it so hard to fight intuitively and promotes a sort of bait n cheese playstyle (not saying that's what you're doing) I love the game and everything but it just irks me.
@@GaiaGhost From a game design perspective, it's a really tricky situation. You want enemies to react to what the player is doing, in order to make combat feel appropriately varied and perhaps more realistic. An intelligent opponent, after all, will not just fire off random sequences of attacks hoping that you'll mess up and walk into one. I think a bit of input reading is justified, as long as it's done properly. However, when the effects of input reading occur too soon after the button press, or happen too consistently, it ceases to feel like an adversary noticing what you're doing during battle and responding to it. Instead, it looks and feels robotic and unintuitive. The most obvious input reading I've noticed in Elden Ring is how enemies dodge projectiles. This isn't a big deal by any means, as it's incredibly easy to mitigate by using spells that have a delayed effect, or by just going in with a melee weapon. I just don't like how obvious it is that I'm causing the monster I'm fighting to yeet itself to the right every single time I press a button. Personally, I think the developers wanted to nerf the effectiveness of ranged attacks against certain enemies, but didn't want to invest a lot of extra time into making a more advanced projectile avoidance AI. Which is understandable, but it does look goofy as fuck when it happens like five times in a row. Aside from that, the only other input reading I've seen is how some bosses instantly transition from a "walking" phase (during which they move slowly towards the player to close distance), to a "jogging" or "running" phase (where they move much faster and prime themselves to attack when within range), the moment I start trying to heal. It's something I'm aware of, but it doesn't feel awkward, at least to me. I'd be interested to hear the immediate button reads you noticed. It's probably something I just didn't pick up on for whatever reason.
@@curatedmemes9406 you want immediate button reads? Godskin Apostle's fireball and Malenia's thrust are literally bound to your heal button. Malenia's thrust is significantly rarer to be bound but when it happens it's really annoying. Obviously projectile dodges Whenever fighting a humanoid enemy with the capability to roll you aren't getting any hits, ever. They will roll everything if your attacks come out fast enough or too slow.
@@GaiaGhost the thing is, I don't do what I described in my post with the intention of dunking on the ai, but when the enemy dodges literally when I press L2 and i can still tilt the stick to hit them with the attack, I will do it. You could say that I'm taking advantage of the input reading yes, but I don't see what else to do lol
@@curatedmemes9406 If anything their projectile dodges feel like they *are* just reacting to the move, not button inputs. Key example is ancient lightning spear, or frenzied burst, you can charge it up and many enemies will not act until the projectile fires. However, you can go into most boss fights and after they do their opening combo, will often do nothing if you don't. (Some exceptions like serpent.) And as soon as you press an attack button they generally respond with the worst possible action for you, immediately. I've spent a lot of time playing solo, underlevelled, with a melee build. finishing my first rl1 run now. You really pick up on it when every move counts. I got margit to hold his club in upper attack position for like 15 seconds by simply not attacking. You can bait malenia by swinging a melee wpn from far away (even waterfowl ) similar thing with godskin duo and black flame (parry it back, easy cheesy win). The weapon is nowhere near them, they are not reacting to that. The game just reads attack and responds with what's most likely to hit you. And that can be turned against them. Just try periodically doing nothing after a fight starts, then try baiting them to you instead of you being the aggressor.
I've come to find some effects upon weapons are stronger than others: Bloodflame on a weapon with bleed; not only does it count as fire damage, igniting foes vulnerable to fire. But, it increases the bleed stacking phenomenally. Frighteningly potent on the Hook Claws, for reasons described below. Any Status Effect ability added to a Weapon (Poison, Rot, Hemorrhage, or Frostbite) will apply to both Fists or Claws when "Two Handing" (dual wielding) them. The fact most attacks hit twice is the fastest way to apply the status effect. Just remember to apply your Status Effect Buff (Frost Armament, Bloodflame, Poison/Rot/Blood Grease) to your Fist/Claws in the Right Hand, then switch to "Two Handing" those. When using Ashes of War, some are hit or miss with applying a weapon's special features. For example: Great Stars or the Celebrant's Skull. Normally, it *needs* to be *the weapon, itself*, that hits. HOWEVER, certain skills, Golden Land and Gravitas DO APPLY the special effect of the two mentioned weapons. Each hit of Golden Land (slam, burst, darts, after-swing) each will apply the HP restoring effect from Great Stars. Gravitas, used in a mass of enemies, with the Celebrant's Skull, will grant 20 runes for each enemy hit. Bleed/Frostbite is a deadly combination that effects anything not made of rock. Spiked Cestus, Star Fist, or Hook Claws. It is surprisingly effective against the Godskin bosses. Sleep is a bizarre status effect, but can be used in an absolutely obnoxious tactic for anything that can be put to Sleep, and Critical Hits can be garnered: Sword of St. Trina Sure, St. T's sword isn't impressive for damage, but it can trivialize fights with it's Skill: Mists of Slumber. Slap an enemy that can be tranquilized with it, then let it take a quick nap, swap to your high critical weapon, that applies a different effect (Bleed/Frostbite is nasty) and crit with that, applying a higher amount of Bleed/Frostbite on the critical. Finally, there's another nasty thing I'm not sure the devs have noticed: the Mimic Tear doesn't run out of FP/Mana. If you want a tank that can also heal itself, give it a weapon with Prayerful Strike, a Shield with no skill, Shabriri's Woe (as you stated), Greatshield Talisman, and 2 Talismans of your choice to fit the situation. If you have read all of my ramblings here, I thank you for taking that time to read it, and hope that it is helpful to you. I hope you have a sparkling day.
@@Dr.SnakeShark3007 Glad I could help? ER is really a sandbox of combat options. I still haven't tried an all-bow build, but I feel like it's more trouble than I'm willing to deal with.
As mentioned at 14:30 - my PC watercooling loop burst open last week lol, which somehow fried like 4 hard drives, among other things. I didn't have the willpower to put it back together then, so I got a new PC..and now I can actually run Elden Ring without it stuttering. The previous card was a 2080ti - it really shouldn't have been having issues running the game, but I was having a ton. I'm not super impressed with Elden Ring's performance on PC - but maybe there was something wrong with my previous build. Have things gotten better for you guys with the updates? Any stuttering issues you think you shouldn't be having? Is performance on console pretty solid?
Performance on PS4 has been pretty good so far. I’ve put about 250 hours into the game and I’ve experienced stuttering maybe 5 or 6 times. Only once in a situation that affected combat. Invading has been a nightmare though. It just never works for me. Most I can do is appear in their world. Then I immediately get kicked out and told there’s a network error.
I got it on the PC first but I had to buy the PS4 version cause the shuttering was so annoying its only a bit better after the updates, but on the PS4 its super smooth 95% of the time!
Another tip on some of the Night Sorceries, some of them don't require you to even have clear line-of-sight with the enemies, if you can lock on the enemy and see part of them you can shoot the Ambush Shard from behind a wall as it materializes behind the enemy regardless of where you are relative to them, it's quite fun in PVP to take people by surprise.
About the pillar on Heroes Graves, you can use both Mohg's and Morgot's shackle to activate them. This also activates the summoning of the chariot that destroys the other chariots on Auriza's Hero Grave
@@gogokowai I think it was discovered some time before the patch. So either they didn't have time or don't care because the chariots are that annoying.
@@gogokowai it's not a glitch bc margit's shackle can trigger those pillars from miles away, i did some testing, as long as you is in the same general area, they will trigger
- Bolt of Gransax's special attack, Ancient Lightning Spear, is also too fast to be dodged by Malenia. - Black Flame attacks deal % amount of health damage, so they will stay relevant for later NG+ cycles. However, it's still fire damage so enemies who are resistant to it, like Mohg, can be a challenge still. Have a backup. - Having high enough poise (close to or 100) means you can walk normally in rot puddles that force slow walk, like the one near the Drainage Chanel grace in Haligtree. Now, this could actually require some confirmation from someone, but my 100 poise heavy character walks normally there. - 60 poise is the breakpoint where you can tank through some of Malenia's attacks and not get staggered
another tip rarely mentioned regarding chariots is the ash of war Raptor of the Mists. It's kind of like Mist Raven prosthetic from Sekiro. Basically whenever the chariot comes to you just use it and it'll just pass through you. This has a very short recovery time as well, so you can use it even at instances where the chariot almost immediately turns and comes back. This helps you in passing through the graves without ever needing to go to safety corners even once. This is how I got through most of the hero graves including the Lava one, didn't even need to find the way to ride the chariot or backstep spam. Although backstep is great used in combination with this ash of war at that last lava section, everywhere else you can pretty much keep sprinting and using this AoW whenever the chariot approached.
On the topic of altering armor, I actually noticed that altering Mohg’s robe increases its Holy damage resistance. The difference isn’t very noticeable, but I still find it quite interesting.
another one that wasnt mentioned in the video is the set that enhances thorn sorceries. taking the cloak off of the torso removes its buff, which is sorta neat i guess
@@stevebuhrt3504 I like to think it's for lore purposes because the thing that changes when you alter Mohg's robe is that it removes the big pauldron which, according to the Sanguine Set, is a symbol of a person's station in his new dynasty. Which means it's kind of an inherently unholy object, hence removing it = higher Holy Resistance.
@@stevebuhrt3504 i just assume that the boost comes from the shawl thing, since the coat itself is much less visually excessive. no clue for certain though lol
@@FreedomAndPeaceOnly lmfao, he just feeds you all, worthless bullshit. Ex: "Notice the dimple on the statues face, it is said that dimples were..." blah blah blah. And he's going into "deep information" on shitty weapons...WOW!!!!
Thats awesome actually. The way the game has so many optional things and secrets, and the way you can discover them including from the community while in-game.
At 04:30 I talk about spells that can be chain-casted. Write some of the ones you know in the replies! Here are some to get us started: SORCERIES Melee attacks > Carian Slicer Most Spells > Carian Slicer Glinstone Shard > Comet Glintstone Shard > Adula's Moonblade INCANTATIONS Catch Flame/Bestial Sling/Stone of Gurranq > Honed Bolt Catch Flame/Bestial Sling > Magma Breath Catch Flame/Bestial Sling > Dragonclaw (I think)
I didn't know that about Crystal Darts. I originially thought they were just magical throwing knives and now I going to be keeping them on hand a lot more. Thank you for specifying the input for feints, too: been trying to figure that out when I did one on accident and realized they were a thing.
@D_ans I’d say the world is exceptionally detailed but it’s very very subtle and done super well. Game is a masterpiece of world building. I can see why people would think it’s not detailed but… there’s many examples of stuff in the lore being shown through the landscape. Like when you go to catacombs and get to the boss, there’s always tons of dead bodies. They’re people becoming one with the roots of the erdtree. It’s super cool
Speaking of the shabriri's woe thing. I'm pretty sure I noticed enemies targetting the putrid corpse ashes in a similar manner. And they got a hek ton of HP as well as having 4 of them so they're extremely good as a tank summon Edit: yeah the description of them states they are good at drawing enemy attention
Just like with night sorceries, enemies won't dodge Frenzied Burst. At the same time, they dodge Rock Sling when you cast it but the spell takes a while to hit so they end up taking it anyways.
The full moon sorceries as well. Enemies dodge when it first releases but before it really even starts to move, do unless they're super close already, they're getting hit with it.
8:18 To add to the armor effects, one other armor that gains or loses a skill when altered is Alberich's Robes. Unaltered they have the effect of boosting the damage of Blood sorceries, and altering it makes it lose this effect. The special effect is also shared with the hat and the gauntlets and the descriptions on all of them mention that this is because they're imbued with Red Glintstone which were formed via blood sacrifices - thereby strengthening the thorn spells. However, altering the robes removes the decorated cape on them which had all of the Red Glintstones embedded in it. Removing the cape removes the stones which removes their ability to strengthen blood magic. This is also further reinforced by the fact that the hat can ALSO be altered but, since the Red Glintstone is imbued in the headwrappings rather than the hat itself altering it doesn't remove the effect since only the hat is removed when making the alteration but the headwrappings stay.
Altering also shows his head was replaced by red glintstone like Lusat and Azure. You actually can’t see the missing red glintstone eye with the hat on either.
I love the content!!! A nice key feature of Elden Ring that most people don’t take note of especially early in the game is the glowing skulls littered across the open world. Every one of them drops a Golden Rune, usually just a Golden Rune(1). And most people will be like “that’s only 200 Runes,” yeah but those add up especially early in the game farming. They’re a lot of them and they always replenish in the world after fast traveling or resting at a site of grace. Torrent instantly breaks them riding over them and simply pressing the Event Action button picks them up. In a span of like twenty minutes while farming enemies and casually riding over any glowing skull I saw, I had easily 35 to 40 Golden Rune(1)’s. And 5,000 to 6,000 runes can make all the difference especially early on building up levels. I know most people probably know this trick already, but I’ve watched a lot of streams where people are completely ignoring the glowing skulls and going about trying to just farm enemies alone. Which breaks my heart cause I’ll jokingly keep track of the glowing skulls I see people completely ignore, and the thousands of runes people ignore just laying around them is sad. So if anyone who doesn’t know this mechanic is reading this, I hope it’ll help with your Elden Ring experience. Please VaatiVidya, never stop creating amazing content. Your lore and storytelling are superb as always. Another awesome video!!!!
Speaking about #2, the spell the Prisoner starts with, Magic Glintblade, is really good against NPC invaders and bosses as well. Since it is delayed, they will dodge the initial cast and then stand there and facetank the actual projectile.
You can also charge this spell. This is incredibly useful, as it makes you able to chain this spell with itself. The charged version does more damage, has a faster projectile speed, and takes a lot longer to fire. You can cast 3 charged ones 3 uncharged ones, and they will unleash a barrage of spells hitting close together. Works well for smaller enemies in pve that take 2 hits, as you can chain a charged then noncharged and have them hit at the exact same time, not gaining aggro while casting. You can also use this chaining in pvp, if you get the timing right, you can make them fire at such timing as to hit right after an enemy dodge. Try it, it's one of the main reasons it's one of my favorite spells.
0:58 - actually, Rock Sling consistently hits enemies too. Yes, they dodge when the projectiles are fired in the end of animation, but since rocks approach its target much more slower than Glintstone sorceries, enemies' input read becomes irrelevant Same is also applicable for Magic Glintblade and, I believe, Cannon of Haima
same experience with all spell that mooves slowly , the AI dodge the spell end , so ennemies can't do shit against gravitationnal spells that throws rocks.
In Gelmir Hero's Grave at 11:16 you can also use the special attack of the Prelate's Inferno Crozier to advance to the bottom, really works wonders in lava and swampish places.
A good way to looking up spells/incantations that can be chained is by looking for descriptions that say "can be cast repeatedly" or "can be cast for a follow up attack". For example you can do one cast of Carrion Slicer and chain cast into Gavel of Haima to shortcut into Gavel last hit. Same can be done with Honed Bolt and Black Blade for the incantation side of things, or Bestial Sling into Black Blade. The far the most funny, yet useless one I discovered was Carian Slicer into Shatter Earth, this one will follow up the Slicer with a small Aoe Explosion around the character, of course it being a stonedigger sorcery it is fairly weak, I call it the Carian Fart.
That shit's a bug and I'm surprised he mentioned it. If you don't believe it, try two spells into a spell that has only one follow up attack, like black blade, theodorix's magma, shatter earth, gavel of haima.
@KivaNChips My guess is they never expected one spell to combo into another spell. If I had to guess, they'll make some concession in that one "school" of magic can combo into another spell of the same kind. For example, bestial fling into stone of gurranq or pebble into comet. Even bestial fling into honed bolt feels ridiculous
@KivaNChips I feel like it adds no depth, just leads to people abusing it for the easiest ways out. Bestial fling into honed bolt is extremely oppressive and you're basically forced to double roll every bestial fling because of it. You'll see a lot of casters that never actually learned how to play caster because this is so strong by itself that you don't need anything else
Additional tip for everyone who loves their Mimic Tear: Equip the Raw Meat Dumpling on yourself, and the Mimic will be able to use it(them) as a heal that DOES NOT give it the Poison status effect (up to 3 times total for a hefty chunk of HP). You can also equip other items, but unfortunately the A.I. goes full dummy with them and starts using them more than actually fighting, so it CAN be done, but it's not then best of ideas. A good idea, however, is to give the mimic HP-regen Ashes of War weapons because they will absolutely use them (and abuse them, even).
The Uplifting Aromatic is a superstar here. Relatively rare item that gives your mimic *and* you a one-hit shield and attack buff. Warming stones are also an excellent choice.
This is all really cool, especially mixed with the shabiri talisman. But.. that mimick is already too strong for my personal taste. As a lvl 150 quality build using +10 bloodhound fang, even after the mimick nerf, it's close to that "too good that it starts to be less fun" kinda territory. Again, for me personally. As a single player game, you can decide to play however you want. I like to try to find this super delicate balance between feeling strong but still being challenged. Which, I'm sure some gatekeepers would already deny me entry just for the bloodhound 10 alone. Good tip tho.
I've already beaten the game and started NG+. Watching these types of videos is just blowing my mind how much this game has. It really is endless content and discoveries. The game definitely deserves Game of the Year.
@@adeptusmechanicus1029 It's in my top 10 for sure. And I have played way too many video games in my life starting with Pong. It's one of those games I wish I could erase my memory of it and play it new again.
Caveat to Night Sorceries being weaker: The Staff of Loss's Night Sorcery bonus is huge AND stacks with itself so NG+ dual wielding two Staff of Loss makes Night Shard/Comet ridiculously efficient.
Using two for the bonus effect is great if you don't have Lusat's, but I'm pretty sure I've seen other videos breaking down why and how Lusat's in the main hand and the other staff in the offhand is still stronger than combining two of the same for double the effect. Of course, there is a drawback here in that Lusat's costs so much more FP...
Something I learned is that Margit’s shackle not only dispels illusory walls, which is already well known, but they also trigger the fire breathing imp totems in dungeons, so if you’re having a hard time getting past the totems or want to use them to kill an enemy use the shackle.
The stuff I'm learning about the shackle is making me even more glad I shelled out the 5000 runes to Patches for it for Margit. I'd been determined not to use it but then finally caved since I was having major issues at level 18 when I finally killed him (and I was at like level 13 or something when I first found him). I immediately checked after that fight to see if it had further uses and I saw that I can use it on Morgott as well, and know seeing it has even more uses makes it well worth the runes.
Common knowledge for some but I see tons of UA-camrs and people still swinging at walls. SMH the sheer reach in a cave it has a well is great lol why would I ever go around and swing or roll at Al walls ever again
For armor alteration, I believe only the new onion knight armor (can't remember name in elden ring) has the weight go up as well as the stats when you alter it. Usually small parts are taken off when you alter (capes and the like), but with the onion knight armor they're added on rather than removed.
if commander oneil in castle sol is too much for you: use bewitching branches on his 2 knight summons - they will turn on commander and help you a little. branches can also be used in pvp - when invaded use it on some strong mob and lure invader to him :D
started a new game and re-diving into all the lore. love your channel so much, vaati. this play thru feels 100% different thanks to all the lore knowledge now.
This is high praise from the loveliest voice of another community. I love it when creators from different communities pop up like this, i love your work for many of the same reasons i love vaati's.
For #8 you can entirely skip dropping down by using Morgoth or Mogh shackle when you are on the room with 3 chariots. It activate the pilard trap under you to destroy them. It works on every pilard trap instead of using ranged attack and it also reveals invisible wall. Very usefull to know.
You can remove the windup of all the spells you listed by crouching before attacking. I’m glad you didn’t mention this in the video because it comes in very handy as a spellblade and I wouldn’t want to see a nerf!
The spell combos idea make me want the ability to bake spells even more, just so you don't have to quickly cycle through them. Ash of War that lets you bake a currently selected spell onto one of the other buttons would be real nice.
@@j0hnnyblade Ugh that would be amazing. When it was announced Elden Ring would have a hotbar/pouch menu for frequently used items, I was convinced they were going to go the Fable 1 route and have the system you describe.
@@j0hnnyblade I don’t get why they don’t have something like this already lol. You could even have it so holding L2 makes it so the triggers, face buttons and dpad directions all map to a different spell, thereby giving you access to any of your 12 spells with the same number of button presses
Another neat combat tip I noticed: Lightning bolts have increases AoE when they hit water. I found this pretty useful against Malenia using the Thunderbolt Ash of War, since she dodges constantly and her arena is a big puddle of water.
I used thunder traps to my advantage to take out a really powerful knight once when I noticed this in some wide water area with a bunch of slimes and claymen, super fun
There is actually a probably unintended interaction with the chain casting that takes it from useful to broken in some cases. Casting any quick spell i.e Carian Slicer or Catch Flame *twice* into longer spells that are *only* able to be casted twice i.e Magma Breath or Gavel of Haima will make the longer spells completely skip their own animation and adopt the animation of the previously casted spell. In Magma Breath's case, it causes you to just immediately launch the projectile from your hand with a flick of your wrist. Its very reminiscent of Forbidden Sun from DS2. In Gavel of Haima or Dragonclaw's case, this will result in you slapping the air in front of you with your staff or seal with no spell effect. If you hit an enemy with your staff or seal directly though, they will take the full damage and knockdown of the respective spells. Its a very powerful slap.
i haven't seen anyone else anywhere talk about this, i've pulled off the slap only a couple times in pvp just trying to chain cast. i always feel like a jerk lmao, but i've had no idea how or why it was happening. you're saying if i cast catch flame twice and then dragonclaw it will do the slap?
@@gelocide4924 Yes, and its a little weirder than I first thought. I started writing a reply to this and then I remembered that a few more spells with limited casting exist: Briars of Sin and Blade of Death. I decided to test them both and found some weird things. For Briars of Sin, I tested how it interacted with Pebble, Carian Slicer, and Gavel of Haima. Casting Briars works mostly as expected actually. If casted 2nd in a chain of quick spells, it will go into the 2nd and 3rd cast of Briars. If casted 3rd, it will only use the final 3rd cast. If casted 4th, it will go back to the 2nd and 3rd casting sequence. I still cant figure out how the game is tracking how many spells in a sequence you've casted, but obviously its not tracking it correctly or applying this information to other spells correctly if it leads to inconsistent or broken interactions like these. Gavel interacts with Briars similarly to other spells. It functions properly if casted 2nd, breaks if casted 3rd, and cant be casted 4th because Briar can only be casted 3 times. Blade of Death, or specifically how it interacts with Honed Bolt/Lightning Strike, is where things got weirder. I tested it with Catch Flame, Honed Bolt/Lightning Strike, and Bloodflame Talons. Blade of Death casted in the 3rd sequence after Catch Flame and Bloodflame Talons for some reason doesn't cost any FP, but it has the same property as the other broken spells of applying if your hand hits the enemy. If used 3rd after Honed Bolt, it actually activates ANOTHER bug where the top half of your body's animations desync from your bottom's half. This seems to be a problem with Honed Bolt/Lightning Strike, though. In this case, you actually do the full follow-up animation, swing the sword around, and fire the beam, but you're on the ground the entire time and you break your spine. Dragonclaw functions the same way. This is... almost how it should interact, minus the broken animations. Since it is broken like this though, the only different property I could think of is that you *are* on the ground the entire time, so maybe getting hit out of it early wouldn't result in you being knocked prone. I also dont know how this affects hyper armor startup. Its hard to time an enemy's attack to be after I've hit it twice with Honed Bolt or Lightning Strike but before I would normally get hyper armor during Blade of Death or Dragonclaw. Magma Breath also functions the same as the other spells when used with Honed Bolt/Lightning Strike, but its less noticable because you are already grounded while using that spell. Your legs dont move like how they should, but you look mostly the same. I'm starting to question whether or not we'd ever get a sorcery and incantation hybrid casting tool, because I do not think the animations would actually be able to function properly in such a case.
@@EldestOrion damn thank u for the in depth response lol, i've done some similar testing but not nearly as much, i will have to look at those spells tomorrow. do u think the weird slap animation is by any chance an intended feature? seems hard to believe but my friend that i play with is convinced it's just a secret mechanic lol
@@gelocide4924 I dont think its intended. The slap can still combo into the second cast of the spell. So instead of skipping the first cast to go into the second faster cast like is probably intended, its attempting to use some faster animation for the first spell cast that doesnt exist, breaking the animation. And these casting phases ARE distinct, as shown by Blade of Death having 2 totally separate animations for its combo. In the best case scenario, they fix the issue but also properly allow you to do the full 2-3 spell casts of a spell while using the faster second-cast variant for the first cast as well. But it would probably end up being that you just skip the first casting animation for spells like that. Also, I forgot to mention but Honed Bolt/Lightning Strike is also itself bugged. Casting Catch Flame twice into Honed Bolt will cause you to slap the air and then lightning strikes. So something else weird is going on with the animations for spells that dont even have limitations to their number if casts. I also didnt test Bestial Sling, so I may do that later as well.
Final addendum: I tested Beast Sling and Stone of Gurranq. They have the same interactive properties as Catch Flame, meaning they are capable of leading into the hand slap. I also briefly tested a combo of Stone of Gurranq and Theodrix's Magma, where you cast Stone twice, then Magma, and then alternate between Stone and Magma after that. Fun, especially with a Cerulean Hidden Tear, but probably impractical to spend 15 seconds throwing rocks and giant magma balls, especially with the relatively short range of Magma Breath. You are almost like a living volcano though.
For destroying the chariots at 11:00 I recommend using Margits Shackle, that way you don't even have to drop down and just on the left side of the ramp, because the Shackle has an hitbox property which trigger the flaming statues. Sure there are some items down there, but it's a bit of a hassle tbh
Oh THATS why it happens then. The shackle causes the 3rd chariot to spawn which destroys them all. Thank you for this comment. It makes much more sense now as to why this happens.
I was gonna comment the same thing, tho for pretty much any dungeon that has a pillar that breathes fire or ice, you can just use Margitt's or Mohg's shackle and it'll go down or up giving you one less trap to worry about
10:23 Really obscure, but if you use margits shackle while going down the hill, then all the chariots will die together! Unsure if this got patched, but worked in my playthrough.
Its not obscure, whats actually happening is that both shackles in the game when used reveal hidden walls nearby and activates the stone pillars in the catacombs (thats spew fire or such affects) this is a rather large range
@@TheCHiiN As far as I know, it's not actually currently known if it's intentional or not. It seems to be more of a quirk with how the shackles work. All we know for sure is they've never patched it.
Speaking of armor alterations, it’s not really useful outside of fashion but the Nox monk hood (altered) seems to be the closest thing to a ninja mask. Like a knock off of the old shadow set in dark souls.
You are a legend, pair this with the black knife armor and maybe the Night Calvary boots and gauntlets to make up for the low armor on the hood? That sounds like an assassin to me
12:20 this also applies to standing in water. having your feet in water directly increases fire resist and lowers lightning resist. Doesnt seem to affect you on Torrent. The fire resist is actually very noticable early so much so that I've taken to fighting agheel on foot. The lightning resist actually gets used against you. There are some fulgur blooms in the Liurna in the water and the caster enemies near the end of farum azula (right before the elevator to death dog) actually use it against you too. I wonder if being wet affects frostbite... -Strangely enough though I don't- -think player casted lightning has- -that extra hitbox in water anymore.- (apparently it does I need to test again)
How about those little lightning orbs in Siofra River? Those little shitfuckers taught me the lightning AOE in water. Player casted lightning still has that extra hitbox.
@@cambion_entertainment when i tested it (summoned friend as red to help) lightning arrows and pots worked but lightning spear and honed bolt wouldnt. i'll have to look into that a bit more
To add to that, Morgott's second phase, where he covers the arena with his "curse", makes lightning attack more powerful too! I figured this out by using the Lightning ash of war you get in Leyndell, it made the second phase way easier, especially as you can use it two to three times during his attack that cuts the arena in quarters with golden swords
(Referring to 5:08) Its not just Catch Flame, this trick works with, as far as I can tell, nearly every incantation that can chain together its own attacks; Stone of Qurranq, Bloodflame Talons, even the heavier hitting and slow wind-up attacks, such as Black Blade and Theordorix's Magma (Though some spells make more sense to chain together than others.) This leads to kind of cool combos, such as chaining Black Blade with Theordorix's Magma (Might be useful for pvp?) However, this does not seem to work for spells like Agheel's flame and its ice, scarlet rot, and magic equivalents. (Nor the "Lesser" versions of those spells) (Feel free to test them out though, perhaps I made a mistake.) I assume this is possible because the game is being tricked into thinking the two spells in question are part of the same chain, which is the very assumption that lead to me testing this with Bloodflame Talons and Stone of Qurranq, and eventually Black Blade and Theordorix's Magma. This is why you can only cast once when chaining Black Blade or Theordorix's Magma off of Catch Flame/Stone of Qurranq/Bloodflame Talons, you're starting on the second half of their respective combo's, which by necessity are faster than their startups.
Just to add some value: night sorceries are stronger than their counterparts while dual wielding two Staff of Loss (does lose to main hand Lusat offhand Loss, but has no increase in FP)
I just found that if you have a warming stone as a hands-on accessory (one of those 10 slots that you can rotate pressing down on the controller while playing) and summon the mimic tear, the mimic will use it when you need it (without actually spending the warming stone from your actual inventory). It helps save on the crimson flask hehehe Free healing! hehehe
My first and second playthrough is about 350 hours. I haven't play in like 3 months, I'm currently doing a fresh run. Man Fromsoft worked some fucking magic creating this game. Love it!
11:00 you can also destroy these chariots by dieing from the the "death“ status affect. When the thorns are sprouting from you, they will destroy any chariot that contacts you.
11:25 there's no need to jump onto the rafters from above. Continue on the path as usual and you will eventually get to this area with the riderless chariot. Turn around toward where you came from, but instead of going up, drop down to a small ledge. That ledge leads to the room with bloodhound knight and a ladder that takes you to the window shown in the video. Getting on the rafters that way is much easier.
there is another secret similar to the "crouch and R1 to get roll attack" one: if you backstep and R1, you will use your weapon's dashing attack! very useful
That was in previous Souls games, Elden Ring is like Bloodborne now, the r1 attack after backstepping is different to the one after running, you can also perform a different attack if you press r2, in DS2, the player, after pressing r2 while running, will just the same heavy attack, in DS3, the player performa a jump attack, in Bloodborne & now ER, the player does a different attack.
@@haruka42069 Dude, i played these games for goddamn 3 years in a row! I know the animations of DS3 & Bloodborne weapons by heart, as i said before, r1 after backstepping having the same animation as r1 while running was in the previous Souls games, Bloodborne was the only game where it was different, and now Elden Ring is the second. Do you have ER now? See it yourself, before i typed this reply i had tested it with three weapons, they are really different.
The AI seems to dodge at the moment of cast/throw for projectiles. So any sorcery that has a delayed projectile the AI will literally just walk into. My go-to for beating Malenia was simply Rock Sling. She failed to dodge every cast because the rocks take a moment to move after the cast ends.
@@GratefulDave93 oh yeah, against large enemies who you can target certain body parts it’s especially good. Just keep bonking them on the head with rock sling and they die.
So something I haven't seen many people talking about is the added utility of Margit and Mogh's shackles. Using one of these will reveal all secret doors in the area, and will also count as striking any of those moving pillars. You can use these in some of the later dungeons to remote control those trapped pillars to more efficiently use them against the enemies.
The first chariot in the fringefolk hero’s grave can be destroyed without going all through the dungeon. The hanging pots can be shot from the middle opening of the first descending ramp. Very tight to angle it without falling off the ledge and dying but still possible.
I love these little details that From soft always puts in their games. One minor addition to the weather/damage bit: light ight also gets a small AOE if cast in standing water. I'm at the Deeproot Depths and it's a wonderful help in dealing with groups of basilisks **shudder**
@@porkwhisperer3050 TIL. This is my first soulsborne where I'm actually using spells and incantations so that might be why it's new to me. Still dope though!
magic glintblade is also useful for input reading enemies, since the spell has a delay they dodge the moment you cast it and not when the projectile actually hits them
Oh! My favorite spell.. Started as prisoner with the spell.. Near end game and still using it.. I can just cast-spam and run around.. Ennemis will still get the damage
The Black knife chest armor actually pairs with a couple of other helmets. For example the modified Nox monk, fingerprint helmet and jerrens excentric helmet (alt) will all equip the black knife hood on top.
In the chariot section, the beginning of the fringefolk hero's grave has a small poison field, but where you drop down several times (avoiding spoilers) it's not poison, no build up happens anyway. I always thought it was blood given the two creatures clinging to the roof in that room. Small detail I know, but still.
I literally JUST put Golden Vow AoW on my Hookclaws yesterday and didn’t even think of the possibility of adding them to a light dagger and having a better skill attached to the hookclaws! Thank you! I swear I am always learning something new about this game every day, it’s what makes it so fun to play!
Tip 11. For mimic: - Equip RAW MEAT DUMPLING (mimics use your equiped items, but sometimes they only use last 1-2 equiped items), so your mimic will heal himself and survive much longer. Mimic won't get "poison effect" from this item. - Equip FREEZING POT for fast Frost. Mimic is not very accurate with those, but if he hit 1-2 you are 1-2 closer to build up frost status.
Came to say this, this is the easy way to do this and much better option if you can get it right, I hate that dungeon. I did it the proper way on ng but not any subsequent play through
Was going to suggest shackles... But you did already. Incredibly useful item. I love that they find secret walls in range of your character not just one wall at a time.
So, insane fact: the chariots in the Oritsa Hero's Grave can be killed significantly easier using Margit's (or Mohg's, I can't remember which) Shackle. If you stand in the small alcove on the ramp where you first get to the chariots and activate the shackle, for some reason that hits the pillar that needs to be sent up to summon the extra chariot so they collide with each others. It's weird and I have no idea why it works, but it's apparently a thing.
The “feint” attacks are amazing now, when they weren’t as much before, specifically because now they’re cancels out of charge attacks. You can also change directions They’re great for mobility
@@TheSUGA1202 they’re very very good on rapiers and heavy thrusting swords (mostly on human enemies and players) the feint guarantees a follow up attack and it’s really good for applying status effects, on top of doing solid flat damage and poise damage. The feints on curved swords however are pretty bad, have no range and don’t seem to guarantee the follow up attack but they look cooler.
I've been using curved swords for so long on my current build and I never knew I could feint -_- thank you so much. It's been years and years and this is still my favorite channel when it comes to soulekiroborne games
First souls game, and I accidentally found out about the frozen needle rapier dodge back while you shoot. I did it by accident and then never stopped doing it since. The heavy attack on it makes you look like silver chariot
Fight someone with a katana and see how well that rapier trick works Bonus points if you fight the same guy twice and win the first time with the trick
In the Gelmir Hero's Grave, at the slope with the first Chariot, I used Bloodhound Step to dash through the bottom lava part, where I found a small alcove on the right hand side with a hole in the floor, which drops you right in front of the boss door.
I picked confessor for my first play though and didn’t know that incantations would be that big of a deal but I’m starting to get super excited seeing some of the badass things you can do with them !
5:15 Sprinting catch flame into Theo's magma makes it come out extremely fast, near-instant. Or, in some cases you could instead cast 2 catch flames and then Theo. In both such cases they will skip the entire wyrm head animation, and only use a flick of your wrist. Another example that works is sprinting Bestial Sling, or casting that twice. Also you can do 2 bloodflame talons chained into an instant magma!
On that second point, Magic Glintblade works pretty well, since there's a delay after the initial cast, causing enemies to dodge the casting animation, rather than the sorcery itself. I've used it extensively to good effect.
One thing about Erdtree great bow. You seem to get a golden vow buff from shooting holy infused arrows near yourself. I guess it also applies to your allies, but I haven’t tested it.
Something I found is that damage negation isn't just impacted by weather. I noticed that after my character had rolled in water (sewers under Leyndell) in this case, my lightning damage negation went from about -2 to -16.
I think the reason enemies don't evade Night Spells is because in their description, it states that all of those spells are "semi-invisible". Maybe the caster can see them but the enemy cannot?
I think that was the idea they were going for, good thing it doesn’t work like that in PvP though, right? …It doesn’t work like that in PvP though, right?
@@GrimmerPl They look exactly the same to both players in PvP. I think they might be ok, but there's probably better options; I fought a friend of mine who was using the one that attacks from behind and out of about 20 uses of the spell he only hit me with it once. At the time, I was 30 hours into this game, and this was my first Souls game. So... It's highly likely that you can only get use out of these as long as the opponent is dealing with something else you've already cast.
Thank you so much for pointing out the effects of night comet. I was destroyed by Melania as a pure caster because all the spells I used performed so terrible against her. I finally beat her today, so thank you again. One thing I might add, the chain casting of night comet still triggers her dodge ai. So the way I use this spell against her is to charge every cast while maintaining the distance.
If you use spells like Rock Sling it causes enemies to do the dodge animation but ,because it's gravity magic, it still hones in on their position and hits npc's for free like the ambush spells (as long as there's nothing in the way)
Another sorcery I highly recommend for mobile, “dodge on cast” enemies is Magic Glintblade. Because the spell has a delay before the projectile, enemies will dodge on the cast leaving them open for the blade to hit no problem. Plus it can be chain cast and charged, making it super versatile.

Incredible how I've been playing this game since day one, and already have 300+ hours on it and STILL play it to this very day, and still discover new stuff on every playthrough. This is a masterpiece and an instant classic on my book.
@@CurvyKirby2.- I just wanted to state that I had put a lot of hours into the game, to the point where I shouldn't be finding new stuff by now. Guess I wasn't clear enough.
Gelmir Hero's Grave: There's an easier drop-off to the side somewhere that brings you to the room with the Bloodhound Knight and the other armour set, you can then jump out onto the rafters after. Traversing the *first* pool of lava in the dungeon (this particular chariot won't go all the way down, but the one leading to the boss room will) will lead you to a shortcut to the boss room to the right and a chest containing the Ringed Finger weapon to the left.
There’s actually a way faster and easier way to kill the Chariots in Auriza Hero’s Grave. You’ll need either Margit’s Shackle or Mohg’s Shackle. If you pause the video at 10:16, look at the middle candle lit pillar on the right side of the screen there is an opening you can stand inside of, reach that spot and use the Shackle the AOE will trigger the Fire Imp Shaft and spawn the 3rd Chariot. There’s a shortcut earlier that leads to that little area.
I remember reading a very compelling theory that The Land Of Reeds is actually Ashina from Sekiro. The more I look into it, the harder it's becoming for me to brush the potential validity of it.
The game already has some vague connections to Dark Souls (there's a rare shield that can drop from one of the skeletons near the merchant outside the capital, that depicts a "legendary city of the sun" aka Anor Londo) so this makes sense. It's a From Software Greatest Hits game after all
Number 10 is absolutely a must for fighting the lesser ones. I’ve been searching through the whole wiki and discussion for anyone discovering a weakness to the mob enemy, because I knew we’re not suppose to fight them regularly. Leave to Vaati for providing the help once again!
I seriously am in constant amazement of this game. The amount of freedom and gameplay styles. The gorgeous landscapes and scenery. The lore and enemy and world design. The fact that so much of the game is optional, that you can explore and do whatever you choose in whichever order you want. How the game is totally accepting of you playing as a melee character, bow user, magic user, or truly any combination you want. Using summons or spirit ashes, putting ashes of war on and totally changes your abilities. Exploring and attacking with Torrent. It’s quite hard to believe what FROM has achieved with this game… even knowing I’ll never use 95% of the spells or abilities or weapons. I know this game isn’t for everyone or maybe the difficulty can be off putting for certain players… but I feel even this game truly accomplishes so much, that it’s hard not to appreciate it objectively. It will be interesting to see how future open world games change or copy or improve on certain aspects of ER for many years to come.
It truly is the ultimate video game. As a kid I used to dream of games like this. It's a masterpiece and pretty much a lock for game of the year already.
@Deadpoppin why everyone is saying the graphics are meh? im playing on a 6900xt and its the most beautiful open world game there ever was and there are not many games that can compete with it looks out there. are people playing on low or ps4? i dont get it, but please name a few games which hit your "graphics standard" so i can look them up, im really curios.
@Deadpoppin By this argument, a masterpiece is an unnattainable pipe dream. To be clear, I agree with that idea; there will never be a perfect video game. But with this in mind, there's not really any reason to argue against someone saying something is a masterpiece when that word just really means "I love this game" when people use it.
@Deadpoppin honestly the only point you have there is optimization. Graphics don't matter if the art style's good, and gamep-lay being confusing and repetitive for new people? I've literally never played a soulslike before this game, nothing was confusing at all, or repetitive (unless swinging your sword counts as being repetitive) the only thing I didn't get until like 180 hours in (a few days ago) was guard-countering with an ultra-greatsword.
@Deadpoppin still havent given ANY titles who are up with your graphical standards. if this is an average 2018 game optic for you, you should stop doing drugs dude lol
Ever since I got the Tree Sentinel armor it’s pretty much all I’ve used, cause it’s about on par with the Banished Knight armor set, and it’s so good as a higher weight set Not to mention I think it’s just a really good looking set
1:40 The Night Sorceries can actually deal more damage, if you're holding the Staff of Loss. Don't even have to cast with it, you can cast with a stronger staff while Loss is in your offhand. You'd think that Comet would deal more damage than Night Comet even after the boost, considering that Glintstone Cometshard has a similar intelligence requirement to Night Comet, and yet it outdamages the unboosted Night Comet, while Comet itself has a way higher intelligence requirement, and a higher FP cost than both of them. But, just one Staff of Loss boosts Night Comet's damage above Comet, while having a lower FP cost.
@@tommasomarconi9053 I believe offhanding one and mainhanding Lusat's equals more damage than dual welding two Staff of Loss...I think I saw that in another video. Of course, you lose the FP efficiency...more for bosses probably. I wish there was a staff that did this for cold sorceries so you don't have to be cornered into having that big giant floppy hat as the only option.
Two things wrong about the golden vow ash of war. The one you apply on weapons is weaker than the spell version. HOWEVER the ash of war version has a cool part to it that most people dont know. The spell version (+15% damage) only increases weapon damage, but the ash of war version (+10%) increases spell damage too. In other words, get the ash of war one if you are a spellcaster.
Does flame grant me strength not stack with golden vow? They seem to both be aura buffs, but I swear I can see both particles on my character at the same time.
WOW, I had figured out the crouching attacks some time ago and couldn't find anyone talking about it anywhere! It's quicker than a roll but the same attack, awesome that Vaati is talking about it! Love it with dual collosal swords!
About the faints, you forgot to mention the most important part and what make them useful, you can do a follow up attack by pressing R1 after the faint, doing the same attack as a backstep R1. So you can combo the charged R2+O+R1
It's insane how far you stick out among others. I've said it many times on here, but I single handedly attribute my LOVE for FromSoft to your videos. Not only great, like seriously great tips, but editing and voice over that makes it a video for entertainment too. Love it man!
Great video. The music reminded me of when I’d escape into the original Diablo and Baldurs Gate (huh, Baldur on the iPhone autocorrects as Bladder. Bladders Gate 🤷♂️)
RIP Chain Casting in patch 1.05 (discussed at 4:32)
Getting rid of this entirely instead of tweaking it is a mistake, in my opinion. Sometimes "glitches" can enhance the depth of your game, and this was the perfect example of one. Spellcasting is much more bland now.
I thought it was a feature considering it seemed to follow some kind of rough convention around which type of spell could be chain casted with what (although some 'chains' were outright bugged to not have an animation and/or a tiny hitbox, likely never intended)
I used to chain Catch Flame into Magma Breath in pvp, which would catch a panic roll but was never by any means a true combo if you timed the roll slightly later - same thing with Swift Glintstone Shard into Comet
Damn, would have been great for a battlemage playstyle too.
Its near impossible to cast and sword play now especially against bosses without getting ridiculously far back to do so
Meh, my mage build feels unaffected by this because I never knew this was a thing. But still, magic go pow enemy become dead
11) When you start to feel burnt out, take a break. The game will still be there when you return and you'll enjoy it more.
Exactly this! I took a break for about 2 weeks from it until yesterday. Not that I was taking it easy considering I was playing Dark Souls 3 and Bloodborne instead, lol.
Is there a difference?
As an example:
600 damage + 10% for a total of 660 damage - 50% resistance means a total of 330 damage dealt.
600 damage against 40% resistance however ends up with a total of 360 damage dealt. It's a very minor difference, but still, a difference it is.
@@MrKhorogh I'm not sure I understand. So + 10% resistance does not equal a + 10% buff?
Obviously projectile dodges
Whenever fighting a humanoid enemy with the capability to roll you aren't getting any hits, ever.
I've come to find some effects upon weapons are stronger than others:
Bloodflame on a weapon with bleed; not only does it count as fire damage, igniting foes vulnerable to fire.
Trina
Sure, St.

Months later and I found these tips helpful, thank you!
Stuttering usually isn't a big deal. I turned down shadow, water reflections and such to low and it's all good. Do have a 3070ti though.
Honestly I'm running an ATI 570RX and just a measly Ryzen 3 1200 and I haven't had any issues with performance
I’ve been running it on PS4 since launch and will say that console is really solid, have had very few issues so it could be worth checking out
Performance on PS4 has been pretty good so far.
It probably wasn't included in the video since it's a developer oversight and might get patched out at some point.
@@gogokowai I think it was discovered some time before the patch. So either they didn't have time or don't care because the chariots are that annoying.
@@gogokowai What's not a glitch, though, is a well-aimed firebomb can trigger the pillar if you throw it where the statue comes up.
@@gogokowai it's not a glitch bc margit's shackle can trigger those pillars from miles away, i did some testing, as long as you is in the same general area, they will trigger
@@marcelovinicius3386 it’s called Margit’s shackle, it’s meant to shackle Margit, not do anything else
I love the black flame attacks and have several twinblades with the BF tornado. I love it
Black Knife % damage on the WA is holy and so can be used against Mohg instead
did malenia on my first try due to that bolt of gransax never been as happy in my life
Gravity rock throw stuff has tracking that input reading cant dodge
I think when you finish the game you can walk in the puddles but I am not sure about that either
another tip rarely mentioned regarding chariots is the ash of war Raptor of the Mists.
@@mitch1gmr Albreich's set
Yeah it adds +0.1, it’s either a mistake or deepest lore
@@stevebuhrt3504 I like to think it's for lore purposes because the thing that changes when you alter Mohg's robe is that it removes the big pauldron which, according to the Sanguine Set, is a symbol of a person's station in his new dynasty. Which means it's kind of an inherently unholy object, hence removing it = higher Holy Resistance.
@@stevebuhrt3504 i just assume that the boost comes from the shawl thing, since the coat itself is much less visually excessive. no clue for certain though lol
Removing Blaidd's Cape removes the immense amount of cold resistance that it has. Mentioned in the lore of his aversion to the cold as well ;)

a few months ago I read a message that said 'crafting required ahead, try Crystal' outside that bossfight and was able to decipher what it meant
Thats awesome actually. The way the game has so many optional things and secrets, and the way you can discover them including from the community while in-game.
At 04:30 I talk about spells that can be chain-casted. Write some of the ones you know in the replies! Here are some to get us started:
SORCERIES
Melee attacks > Carian Slicer
Most Spells > Carian Slicer
Glinstone Shard > Comet
Glintstone Shard > Adula's Moonblade
INCANTATIONS
Catch Flame/Bestial Sling/Stone of Gurranq > Honed Bolt
Catch Flame/Bestial Sling > Magma Breath
Catch Flame/Bestial Sling > Dragonclaw (I think)
Stone of Gurranq can be done before honed bolt too, doing lighting after stone also works
The crystal darts work on the giant golems as well
I swear it feels like carian slicer > carian piercer is also one of them
Glintstone Shard > Adula's Moonblade is a pretty useful one in pvp
You know they're definitely patching it because they seem to be patching anything fun and unintentional
I didn't know that about Crystal Darts. I originially thought they were just magical throwing knives and now I going to be keeping them on hand a lot more. Thank you for specifying the input for feints, too: been trying to figure that out when I did one on accident and realized they were a thing.
I love how everything has a purpose in these games. I didn't even know about the varying descriptions on altered armor. So cool.
Gotta appreciate the attention to detail in this game. So cool and good for world building
And they got a hek ton of HP as well as having 4 of them so they're extremely good as a tank summon
Edit: yeah the description of them states they are good at drawing enemy attention
Just like with night sorceries, enemies won't dodge Frenzied Burst. At the same time, they dodge Rock Sling when you cast it but the spell takes a while to hit so they end up taking it anyways.
Same goes for magic glintblade. They dodge when you cast, but the sword comes out after a delay and they don't dodge that.
I'm pretty sure enemies won't dodge uncharged lightning bolts, but WILL dodge charged ones.
I've been using Night Comet for a while because I felt like it was more effective than other medium projectiles, now I know why!
This is also further reinforced by the fact that the hat can ALSO be altered but, since the Red Glintstone is imbued in the headwrappings rather than the hat itself altering it doesn't remove the effect since only the hat is removed when making the alteration but the headwrappings stay.
ok
the eccentric hood is so far the only piece of armor that has almost no Stat change
Yeah this one is a great trick! I do it too.
And if you're on foot, you can roll over them to break them and get the rune.
It's helped me tremendously.
Speaking about #2, the spell the Prisoner starts with, Magic Glintblade, is really good against NPC invaders and bosses as well. Since it is delayed, they will dodge the initial cast and then stand there and facetank the actual projectile.
yep I try to use 4 or so in a row then when they dodge the last time get hit by em all
You can also charge this spell.
Death ranker has the same effect
0:58 - actually, Rock Sling consistently hits enemies too. Yes, they dodge when the projectiles are fired in the end of animation, but since rocks approach its target much more slower than Glintstone sorceries, enemies' input read becomes irrelevant
Same is also applicable for Magic Glintblade and, I believe, Cannon of Haima
enemy: *dodges left* haha! your spell missed me! now I have that upper han--*gets hit by the slow moving rocks*
same experience with all spell that mooves slowly , the AI dodge the spell end , so ennemies can't do shit against gravitationnal spells that throws rocks.
@@BasalteJ the rock throw sorcery is one of my staple spells for exactly that reason.
So even enemies get tripped up by delayed attacks, not just players.
Imo one of the best spells in the game. Strong, versatile and does a ton of poise dmg.
Darn my spellthief character just got much spicier. I only knew about Slicer into Greatsword
That shit's a bug and I'm surprised he mentioned it. If you don't believe it, try two spells into a spell that has only one follow up attack, like black blade, theodorix's magma, shatter earth, gavel of haima.
I got my ass kicked a couple of times in PvP by that combo, don't know how or why but it was a lot of damage!
Why are you all have a smooth and crafty mindset
The Uplifting Aromatic is a superstar here. Relatively rare item that gives your mimic *and* you a one-hit shield and attack buff. Warming stones are also an excellent choice.
DaneJR's mom never called me back
@@bobobsen why don’t you cry about it
This is all really cool, especially mixed with the shabiri talisman. But.. that mimick is already too strong for my personal taste.

The spell combos idea make me want the ability to bake spells even more, just so you don't have to quickly cycle through them. Ash of War that lets you bake a currently selected spell onto one of the other buttons would be real nice.
Some sort of caster stance where the weapon crossbar gets replaced with 4 selected spells (like the pouch menu) would be great
@@j0hnnyblade Ugh that would be amazing. When it was announced Elden Ring would have a hotbar/pouch menu for frequently used items, I was convinced they were going to go the Fable 1 route and have the system you describe.

I was gonna comment the same thing, tho for pretty much any dungeon that has a pillar that breathes fire or ice, you can just use Margitt's or Mohg's shackle and it'll go down or up giving you one less trap to worry about
@@smileyyami9086 Yeah been there done that, not worth carrying it around for that, but it can be helpful sometimes.
@Jesus is coming. Read the Gospel. Jesus doesn't exist.
It still works as of May 9
@@soulcrusher25 its an intended feature, its not a bug
@@TheCHiiN As far as I know, it's not actually currently known if it's intentional or not. It seems to be more of a quirk with how the shackles work. All we know for sure is they've never patched it.
Speaking of armor alterations, it’s not really useful outside of fashion but the Nox monk hood (altered) seems to be the closest thing to a ninja mask. Like a knock off of the old shadow set in dark souls.
You are a hero
If it ain't drip, it's a skip.
Thank you for the tip.
Not really useful outside of fashion == very useful and extremely relevant!
You are a legend, pair this with the black knife armor and maybe the Night Calvary boots and gauntlets to make up for the low armor on the hood? That sounds like an assassin to me
This is the most important information.
(Nor the "Lesser" versions of those spells) (Feel free to test them out though, perhaps I made a mistake.)
I assume this is possible because the game is being tricked into thinking the two spells in question are part of the same chain, which is the very assumption that lead to me testing this with Bloodflame Talons and Stone of Qurranq, and eventually Black Blade and Theordorix's Magma.
It helps save on the crimson flask hehehe

Turn around toward where you came from, but instead of going up, drop down to a small ledge. That ledge leads to the room with bloodhound knight and a ladder that takes you to the window shown in the video. Getting on the rafters that way is much easier.
there is another secret similar to the "crouch and R1 to get roll attack" one:
if you backstep and R1, you will use your weapon's dashing attack!

The Black knife chest armor actually pairs with a couple of other helmets. For example the modified Nox monk, fingerprint helmet and jerrens excentric helmet (alt) will all equip the black knife hood on top.
I actually do need this
Damn, didn't know that
That's nice! I do hope we'll get more helmets that get the duelist cloak hood to pop up as well
The unaltered banished knight helm with the red hood also pairs well with several sets that bring out the shawl covering the left shoulder.
Tip 11. For mimic:
- Equip RAW MEAT DUMPLING (mimics use your equiped items, but sometimes they only use last 1-2 equiped items), so your mimic will heal himself and survive much longer. Mimic won't get "poison effect" from this item.
- Equip FREEZING POT for fast Frost. Mimic is not very accurate with those, but if he hit 1-2 you are 1-2 closer to build up frost status.
Fun fact: Margit's Schackle also works with the chariots in Auriza Grave - just use it at the opening in the incline where the two chariots meet
Came to say this, this is the easy way to do this and much better option if you can get it right, I hate that dungeon. I did it the proper way on ng but not any subsequent play through
Iirc the shackles also destroy illusory walls. My theory is they send out a “pulse” that interacts with objects, hence the imp tower and walls
Was going to suggest shackles... But you did already. Incredibly useful item. I love that they find secret walls in range of your character not just one wall at a time.
Will it work on the single chariots in the Stranded Graveyard?
Easy way indeed!

Two things wrong about the golden vow ash of war. The one you apply on weapons is weaker than the spell version. HOWEVER the ash of war version has a cool part to it that most people dont know.
