    If you want a Leprous song more up your (normal) alley, “Contaminate Me” live is something you’ll dig.
    And yeah, they’re kinda a genre of their own when you start digging. A lot of rhythm play and jumping from heavy to borderline ambient and even what I’ve heard called “depressing groove.”
    Also Baard is one of the most creative drummers I’ve ever heard.

    • @Motorzep
      @Motorzep 2 роки тому +12

      I strongly second "Contaminate Me". The live performance from "Rockerfeller Music Hall"is phenomenal and features not only Ihsahn on harsh vocals but also features their former drummer and Baard side by side.

    Their first album "Tall Poppy Syndrome" (2009) is a Melodic Prog/Death Metal with growls.
    Next Album "Bilateral" (2011), "Coal" (2013), and "The Congregation" (2015) are absolutely masterpieces.
    Check "Slave" (Live Performance) or "The Price" (music video) for the next reaction.

    The bit about the double snare was spot on, drummer said in interviews that he needed a second snare for a different tone. If you want to delve into harder Leprous, there's always Slave or The Sky Is Red live. Tons of synchronized headbanging, incredible drumming and pretty rad tunes too...

    This band has found a VERY special place in my heart over the past year when I discovered them. I just booked a ticket today to see their livestream of what I expect will be from the new album just a couple days before it comes out. Super glad to see you enjoyed them Tank. There are a ton of great songs you could check out from their back catalog that would blow you away all over again. Glad to see you had such a positive reaction on a first listen! Definitely suggest "The Price" as a good hook. The first song I heard was "Rewind" and I was actually shook after hearing it; I suggest that for off-camera. The feelings they're able to evoke are ones I never thought I had.

    Leprous, fuck yeah! One of my favorites! Please do more reactions. Others will probably recommend their heavier songs like "Slave" or "Contaminate Me", but imo if you start with their latest you have to go backwards. My recommendation would be their first single of this new album- "Castaway angels", it's a studio session video.

    One of the best things about Leprous in my opinion, is that all of their work is pretty different from one another, yet still maintains their core sound which is always brilliant.
    If you ever get back to this band, which I highly recommend, based on each of their albums would be Phantom Pain, Forced Entry, Coal, Rewind, Coma and finally The Sky Is Red. My personal favorites from each of their 6 albums leading up to what you listened here on their 7th album. Keep doing what you're doing dude, it's a fun time watching.

And my voice is entirely too deep for some of these notes, yet this man can hit notes in my mid/low range (i.e. the line "feels like a bottomless hole" in Nighttime Disguise) with apparent ease. Einar is not of this realm.

    Leprous has evolved a lot over the years, and their sound changes significantly from album to album. Their older stuff was a lot more metal/experimental prog (to be honest, I sort of bounced off of it), which you might dig more than your initial reaction. The Congregation is when I think they sort of turned around and went in a slightly less experimental, but still prog metal-y direction. Malina, the album that utterly hooked me on Leprous, was a step more towards prog rock with less metal. Their last album, Pitfalls, went full prog rock with a lot of atmospheric touches. This one proved to be divisive, and a lot of people didn't like how much they'd strayed from their earlier albums (personally, as primarily a proghead, I loved it). This new one coming out, Aphelion, looks to be keeping with their prog rock trend, but they're doing a lot of interesting things that remind me of their earlier albums in the songs they've released so far. I'm super excited!
    I'm glad you ended up digging the song in the end! I hope you check out more, as Leprous have become easily one of my all time favorites.

    Oh boy, you're in for a journey. Their earlier albums feature heavier music, and even though over time their repertoire evolved and became softer, so to speak, they didn't lose musicality at all
    I never really expect bands to stay the same over their history. People change, and considering that music is generally a form of expression, it changes with them. It's very much the case here - they haven't stagnated, only moved forward, staying true to themselves.
    As for the recommendations, Bilateral, Coal and The Congregation are all solid picks, it's a wealth of wonderful music.

    Leprous are so good! I found them 'on accident' and until now I've listened to and love their three latest albums. Can't wait for the new one 🔥

    New Leprous and I missed it?! Thanks, Tech, could have missed that. I've been haunted from Einars Voice since his featuring on Esa Holopainens Silver Lake 'Ray of Light'. Really interesting song, that chorus may even resurrect the dead. Leprous gets me restless. 🤪🤘🏻

    Oh damn, didn't think you'd be reacting to Leprous! This is one of the bands I picked up in the last year or so (along with Jinjer, Spiritbox, Opeth, Tesseract, etc.).
    I first listened to their 2019 album and it was really different from the prog metal I thought they would be. It was cool. I've taken my time getting into the other albums and only recently listened to some of their earliest stuff. They've changed over time but it's always unique and interesting.
    Slave is their most popular reaction song, there's a live performance video that's pretty cool.

    You really can't go wrong with Leprous. Their "Live at Rockefeller Music Hall" DVD is definitely the way to go to discover some of their older material. I am going to recommend a band, solely based off their emotional draw and sound; Sweden's "Imminence". Their song "Temptation" or even "Heaven In Hiding". You'll feel it!

    I am liking what I’m hearing here. I haven’t enjoyed much of what has come out after their masterpiece of an album called the congregation that came out in 2015, and even though this is a big change from the sound I like from them I am quite enjoying the direction it’s going.

    Great work Tank! I've been going through the backlog of your videos and am loving the format. Wish everyone did Tank Facts! (and headbangs!) Now I was left with the impression that you liked the feel of Leprous, but I also know you like the heavier stuff, and there's a certain song by Persefone - "Living Waves" that might satisfy that desire. Here's hoping this fresh comment on an old video piques your interest :)

    The whole band are very talented musicians, but Baard Kolstad is one of my favorite newer drummers. Super versatile and has a great unique sound. Some great drum work from him in Borknagar too.

    I never listened to these guys but I'm definitely checking more of them out!
    And based on this I think you'll like the band VOLA too, they are a Danish progressive metal band with a very interesting sound that I've never heard before.

    hi tank, i come more from electronic music, then at some point I decided to go on a metal trip, from rammstein to unleash the archers to the band "null positive". "null positive"; this band is out of this world. would be super super cool, is a drug. if you did a raction.
    i start with the song "hate". Whenever I go to the internet, the first thing I do is look if there is already a reaction from you :) only then will my emails come :) best greetings from germany from michael :)

    Although I've heard the name "Leprous" before, I've never listened to any of their songs and I certainly expected something heavier, too. I guess the song as a whole will need some time to grow on me but I do love the cello (in general) and Raphael is a great cellist. i love his covers of Opeth's "Harvest" and Lamb of God's "Walk With Me In Hell". He also did a cello cover of Bleed. ^^

      I recommend to check them out, but start from the beginning. They went kinda softer and softer on each album, but the main idea and sound is still the same. Great band nevertheless. AND they are Ihsahn's live band.

    Great reaction, I thought you'd appreciate this band. They've changed a lot over the years and it's fair to say they aren't really a metal band anymore, a far cry from their debut Tall Poppy Syndrome which was effectively an Opeth clone. I highly recommend their second album Bilateral, it's where they really developed their own sound and Forced Entry in particular is an absolute banger.

    • @helenhunt5414
      @helenhunt5414 2 роки тому +2

      Opeth clone? Really? I love Opeth, but none of their albums is on my regular on-repeat listen like Tall Poppy Syndrome.

    • @andrewcarter1747
      @andrewcarter1747 2 роки тому

      @@helenhunt5414 It hits literally every single musical beat that Opeth covered in their best years, the biggest difference is Einars voice, which is nothing like Mikael Akerfeldt's. I was so surprised, and glad, when Bilateral came out as it represented not only a massive shift in their sound but showed they were going to carve out a very unique sound.

    • @helenhunt5414

      @@andrewcarter1747 Beats don't matter that much, melodies matter and Tall Poppy Syndrome has waaaay better melodies🤷 I know people who say they are bored to death by Opeth, but they are huge fans of Tall Poppy Syndrome. So, definitely not a clone.

      @@helenhunt5414 It doesn't, TPS is a dull album, they improved dramatically afterwards. I think you might have missinterpreted my use of beats, I was not referring to rhythm (and only the musically illeterate thing rhythmn doesn't matter) but the use of musical idea's, of which Opeth's influence on TPS was very strong.

    • @helenhunt5414

      @@andrewcarter1747 Well, you must have listened to TPS superficially if you use the word "dull". In any case our discussion is pointless - we speak different languages.
      Don't listen to TPS if you consider it dull, your loss afterall 🤷
