The second drummer in this video was Leprous's old drummer -- he came in for this live performance as a special occasion to make things grander and more epic, etc.
@@AndrewRooneyDrums it's probably been mentioned somewhere else here, but Tobias also plays in a two-piece called Aiming For Enrike. And as far as I know, they do not use a click when performing live.
Leprous has their own sound. Very tight rhythmically. That's what she said. I would consider them Progressive Metal along the line of Haken, Porcupine Tree and Caligula's Horse.
if you like this style, then are som more and lesser known nordic bands that are of the same cloth as leprous like 22(check out the song plastik), Agent Fresco("tiger veil") and Maratron("body doubel" is good one)
This was a special show for Leprous with the taping and everything, so they invited long-time drummer Tobias Ørnes Andersen to join on stage and play in unison with Baard. Tobias was the drummer for their first 3 albums before leaving the band in 2014. Cult of Luna is a metal band that regularly performs with 2 kits on stage, sometimes with unison playing for the striking visual effect, and sometimes with one main groove and complimenting percussion.
One of the best drummers on the planet. I would put him in the top 10 group of the best drummers I've ever seen live. So creative and interesting. I've never seen any drummer get away with playing to MUCH and still serving the music perfectly. Everything else in Leprous´s music is an exercise in beautiful restraint, but Baard is given a lot of room, which he takes full and wonderful advantage of.
Ill say it again. I watched Leprous open for Between The Buried And Me. I'd never heard Leprous before. And they owned that show like nobody's business! Every aspect of this band is amazing. And Baard, holy shhhhhh! Yeah these guys are professionals. Go see them!!
This was a Very powerful song, Baard with those Fills so clean with unreal speed and precise precision.. Baard is one of the Most talented drummers i have seen..
I'd put Leprous definitely to the Prog Corner, Progressive Metal specifically. Had the pleasure to get to know them about a month back at Night Of the Prog festival in Germany. Now I am obsessed with this great music 😊
There's a lot of Fates Warning in Leprous' style and arrangement approach. But they truly have carved their own way beyond any influences, they are a special deal.
In a record store I would put them under "L" for Leprous, but in all seriousness they are Progressive Metal / Progressive Rock... they are one of those bands that sits in between the two like Karnivool and Tool
If you're interested in that type of thing, The Charismatic Voice has a nice video about the performance of the singer (Einar Solberg) in this same song.
Leprous always sound to me like I am in my room listening to metal while someone in the livingroom is watching the Eurovision. I wouldn't call myself a fan but they're absolutely on my top 3 bands I wish to see live.
Andrew, I’d love to see your reaction to Kenny Grohowski’s drumming with the metal band Imperial Triumphant. I saw him play several of John Zorn’s jazz and metal compositions with John Medeski at a festival this year and had my mind completely blown
Thanks for checking another one of Baard's (well Leprous') video. Please more, more, more of Board :P Anything Board plays on, you can react to either with Leprous, Kickslip or his collbabs (Earthside, ...) all of it is worth checking and displays so many ideas and drum technics, the guy's just on another level! The other drummer is Tobias Ones Andersen who used to be Leprous' drummer until 2013, before being replaced by Board. He is also a great drummer and now plays with the Norwegian band Shining.
Congrats to 100k! I'd put Leprous in the Progressive Metal section, even though they sound nothing like any other band I've heard. Very unique even within a genre that has many unique sounding bands.
Congrats on 100k Andrew! I hope on a future video you can check out Pablo Viveros from Chelsea Grin. He’s criminally underrated as a drummer and definitely worth checking out.
I don't know what to compare Leprous to, honestly. Since I discovered them, I haven't been listening to much of anything new, Leprous is my go-to because it's my vibe. Leprous is Leprous, I guess :D
As others have said, prog metal. That's a big umbrella though. Simar to bands like Caligula's horse, cult of Luna, the ocean, where they kind of exist on the fring of a few genres.
Prog metal is my jam, but I really can't compare these guys to anything, except maybe Ihsahn who hired some of these guys to play his live shows. Ihsahn composed his work singularly, but needed a band in order to play live. And that live band basically evolved into Leprous. Contaminate Me, from this same performance, includes Ihsahn as a guest and it also further complicates their sound because they involve so many elements. At one point it is almost symphonic.
Leprous started in 2001, while Ihsahns first solo album came in 2006, so they were a band well before being Ihsahns backing-band. They are from the same town in Norway though, and have known each other for a long time.
I know this is a re-upload, but you absolultely should check out "Contaminate Me" from this same show. Even if you don't do a video on it! :) ua-cam.com/video/78-vJwCVJvk/v-deo.html It has Ihsahn from (well, his own stuff more recently actually) Emperor. Leprous used to be his touring band. He's married to the sister of Einar (Leprous singer) too! And as someone who used to work in a record section of an electronics store, I would just categorize them as maybe... "post black metal"
Still not at 100k yet since yesterday??? Wtf is this ?? Come on ppl!! Stop scrollin on useless faceboook and or twitwat and hit that subscribe button here damn it!
I think i'd put Leprous in the progressive metal section, but they're there in the tentative way i'd also put Tool and some of the Opeth albums there. Bands that just have their own sound.
If I can get past the wonky stick control, the dude is amazing. Also, on the vocal style, the singer sounds like the comedian Bill Burr when he is on a rant. haha
The second drummer in this video was Leprous's old drummer -- he came in for this live performance as a special occasion to make things grander and more epic, etc.
Oh wow!
Magical
@@AndrewRooneyDrums it's probably been mentioned somewhere else here, but Tobias also plays in a two-piece called Aiming For Enrike. And as far as I know, they do not use a click when performing live.
This was Leprous' 15-year anniversary concert, so they invited some guest artists that have worked with the band before.
Leprous has their own sound. Very tight rhythmically. That's what she said. I would consider them Progressive Metal along the line of Haken, Porcupine Tree and Caligula's Horse.
Completely agree "progressive metal". I would add Soen and Gojira to that list.
Well, I mean Gavin Harrison is in PORCUPINE TREE. 🤩
And Hypno5e in a certain way 😜
@@jleffel6969 Yes but only few albums ^^

100K!!!!! CONGRATS! All you needed was another Baard Reaction!
This was a Very powerful song, Baard with those Fills so clean with unreal speed and precise precision.. Baard is one of the Most talented drummers i have seen..
Imagine playing drums with Baard on stage. THAT takes balls!
He is the drummer for the first three Leprous albums.
I'd put Leprous definitely to the Prog Corner, Progressive Metal specifically. Had the pleasure to get to know them about a month back at Night Of the Prog festival in Germany. Now I am obsessed with this great music 😊
They're chanting "SLAVE", and it's fucking awesome.
Yes yes yes!!!! 100K!!!! 🥁🥁🎉🥳👏
🙏
There's a lot of Fates Warning in Leprous' style and arrangement approach. But they truly have carved their own way beyond any influences, they are a special deal.
Oh, but the record store category is definitely Progressive Metal.
Ohhh! I see you FINALLY reached 100k subs! Congrats my brother! You certainly deserve those 100k subs a hundred times over!
🤘🏼🥁🤘🏼
CONGRATS, ANDREW!!! 100K!!
In a record store I would put them under "L" for Leprous, but in all seriousness they are Progressive Metal / Progressive Rock... they are one of those bands that sits in between the two like Karnivool and Tool
Yeah I agree. Someone also said haken which makes sense to me as well
CONGRATS 100k finally! You deserve it!
congrats on 100k subs!!!!, been here for years, great to see the hard work pay off! cheers!
Drums aside, THAT VOICE!
YEAH!
If you're interested in that type of thing, The Charismatic Voice has a nice video about the performance of the singer (Einar Solberg) in this same song.
Prog bro !! Ohh, just noticed, 100K subscribers, congrats from Aus mate....
100K!!! Well deserved! Congrats! Leprous are sooooo good! ❤❤❤
Leprous always sound to me like I am in my room listening to metal while someone in the livingroom is watching the Eurovision. I wouldn't call myself a fan but they're absolutely on my top 3 bands I wish to see live.
definitely check out another drum video of Baard's
I've done a few now!
@@AndrewRooneyDrums yeah they're always a good time :^)
Pink Floyd meets Messugah bro, but really they are out there!! Going to see them in February in Holland. Very excited to see them 🔥🔥
congratulations for reaching 100k.!! ♥
A lot of good musicians from the Scandinavian countries and especially drummer for some reason 🎉
Disciplined!
Baard is also in a side project called Rendezvous Point which is another incredible prog metal band.
Great reaction as always! You have to check out Baards playthrough of Bonneville it's amazing
More Baard! More Jay Postones (Tesseract). PLEASE MORE JAY
Andrew, I’d love to see your reaction to Kenny Grohowski’s drumming with the metal band Imperial Triumphant. I saw him play several of John Zorn’s jazz and metal compositions with John Medeski at a festival this year and had my mind completely blown
Agreed!
I got to see them perform this live in a venue smaller than this! It was breathtaking!!
Thanks for checking another one of Baard's (well Leprous') video.
Please more, more, more of Board :P

Bard's the man. Got tickets for febrary! 🥰
100K is imminent! I hope they sent the button already!

two drummers?? why not, because we can and also we are able to deliver, damn
Man as a drummer playing in sync with another drummer on an off tempo crushendo is mind boggling
One of the most amazing shows I've been to. (Leprous, not this specific show)
Been asked several times to explain what kind of music leprous play. I usually say, just listen to em.
I don't know what to compare Leprous to, honestly. Since I discovered them, I haven't been listening to much of anything new, Leprous is my go-to because it's my vibe.
Leprous is Leprous, I guess :D
The newer stuff you probably could compare to Agent Fresco?
Just discovered them thanks to you! ^____________^
My wallet does NOT thank you Good Sir! T___T
Up close and personal Baard-Cam version on my YT page from Last NA Tour from Akron Ohio Musica venue.
I have always said that the congregation sounds like a mix between system of a down and muse.... its so unique
Great singer and yes…. i know
hehe
Hey, new Baard playthrough out. Would be great to see your react on it🥳 Cheers from🇳🇴
Sounds good!!
I would call this a progressive metal - postrock crossover.
NICE!
As others have said, prog metal. That's a big umbrella though. Simar to bands like Caligula's horse, cult of Luna, the ocean, where they kind of exist on the fring of a few genres.
My local 'record shop' puts them under L they don't genre stuff, its a bit odd but sometimes have lucky finds.
Leprous would fall under progressive metal/progressive rock.
Prog metal is my jam, but I really can't compare these guys to anything, except maybe Ihsahn who hired some of these guys to play his live shows. Ihsahn composed his work singularly, but needed a band in order to play live. And that live band basically evolved into Leprous.

100k!
Baard Kolstad and Michael Scott at once
You should react to Eric Moore: Burning (Anthony Burns)
Record shop section: Progressive metal
They remind me a bit of Haken. Particularly the lyrics/singing. But the music too.
Check out Baby J of Spite and Darko US, he has some great videos of his drumming I think you’d respect a lot.
The would go in the front window.

He must have just hit it.......
Vocals remind me of Opeth. Progressive Rock if you like.
The vocals are decidedly non Opeth like lol
Aside from the thankfully short death growl, Baard and the band are wonderful.
I think i'd put Leprous in the progressive metal section, but they're there in the tentative way i'd also put Tool and some of the Opeth albums there. Bands that just have their own sound.
Prog-metal. Check out Opeth's ghost of perdition
I've done it!
If I can get past the wonky stick control, the dude is amazing. Also, on the vocal style, the singer sounds like the comedian Bill Burr when he is on a rant. haha
Never closed pornhub so fast
That's what she said..
prob prog metal
Leprous does not fit. And that is why it is one of the greatest bands ever existed.
Sometimes you say more but not saying anything at all.
I don’t like this singer, sorry, but Bard kolstadt is fabulous
Love this band. Congrats on silver plaque otw!
Thanks for introducing me to this band. Now I know not to buy any of their stuff.
