Finally getting into the good shit that's modern! There's still awesome metal coming out every year from our generation and future generations. Not everything is blend. Not everything is meant for fast and mass consumption. When I came across these guys some years ago, they kinda just reinvigorated my musical belief in whats to come.
I thought I saw a second drummer? What's up with that? Do they have 2 permanent drummers for studio and live? I don't know any bands that use 2 drummers since Adam and the Ants waaaaaaaaaay back.
@@barkingmadman1169 As far as I know, that's actually their former drummer Tobias! They invited him to perform alongside them and their current drummer Baard (shirtless guy) during that show.
Next up - "The Sky is Red" ... even better than this one. A truly magical song. And Baard's (drummer) performance in it is hard to believe - he's a clockwork. And if you're bored - you can also add "Below" to the list.
Is he the one that does the growls at the 3/4 point, I always thought that was ross. Also check out Falling back to Earth by them, i know I have requested it a few times, but since you like Dream Theater I think you'll love them Drew🎸🎹🥁🤟👍
Drew Fortune Hey, as long as you enjoy them, I’m sure it will be worth the wait. That’s what it’s all about, spreading this music thing. ✊🏻 Just as a side note, the band doesn’t like to refer to themselves as prog, but they’re more prog than anything else, especially their older stuff. They like the term ‘avant garde’ now. I call it prog, but to each their own. Lol A good example of this would be their song ‘Forced Entry’. Very proggy. As opposed to one of their newer songs, ‘Rewind’. I would def check those two out to contrast how their sound’s developed. They’re also usually one of the most requested tracks. Nice to see ya on the Leprous train. 👍🏼
My definition of prog is that every band IS its own genre. They all have such a unique sound. Please do more Scandinavian prog. Anekdoten are an awesome Swedish band. Anything off their newest album will put you in a time distorted state where you have no idea how 10 minutes went by. Even better if the album is listened to from start to end.
Dude, it's Leprous. As in someone infected with the disease leprosy. ^_^ I requested this one like your second video ever. Happy to see you finally react to it!
Dude every time I hear that one from this particular show, it blows my mind that they not only did it as their second-to-last song in a long set list, but that they also followed it up with that monstrous Contaminate Me performance. Such an energetic concert for sure
Got to start listening to Haken, get to grips with some of their back catalogue before you listen to the masterpiece that is Messiah Complex. If you want something live, TesseracT - King (bloodstock 2019)
Glad u enjoyed Strongly recommend the sky is red live or baard's drum play through Both equally great and great quality Keep doing what ur doing as your one of the few genuine UA-cam reactioners
Leprous is pronounced 'Leprus', as in suffering from leprosy. Please react to their song, Rewind, from their 2015 album - The Congregation meas cara :)
Hha loved your reaction man, as always. Highly recommend the drum cam of their The Sky Is Red. It's mind-blowing, even when not knowing anything about drumming. Another rec for this GREAT band(imo one of the greatest progbands around) is The Flood, which is just beautiful.
Leprous was a band that came outta nowhere for me, heard it while listening to random stuff on Spotify, didn't like the singer's voice at first, then suddenly clicked and they became one of my favourites. Saw them live last summer, it was magic.
Contaminate Me from the same concert is another amazing performance. Or the Baard Kolstad drum playthrough for The Sky is Red. You won't be disappointed with either one i promise!
Leprous are fantastic. Baard is indeed a beast. Check out Contaminate Me (live from the same concert) or the drum playthrough of Rewind are good places to go
Oh happy day🥳🥳🥳 Been waiting for you to discover the mighty Leprous, and this was just wonderful på watch. I’ve seen them live seven times and they blow me away every time🤘 Rewind from this concert is mindbendingly good!
LEPROUS toured with the rock band HAKEN many times - HAKEN are JUST as awesome!! If you liked Leprous Drew you will LOVE HAKEN!! i will go find good live HAKEN songs live with GOOD quality! but in general - awesome HAKEN songs who toured with Leprous are "Veil" by HAKEN , "The Architect", "Messiah Complex" and "Invasion" and "1985" just to name a few! i will go find HAKEN rock band videos -they toured with Leprous MANY times!!
This is a fantastic prog band and one of my favorites. Einar has such a unique voice and Baard is a beast on the drums (he breaks multiple sticks on the video for the playthough of The Sky is Red). Seen them live many times and they put on a great live show. For more killer prog do Caligulas Horse, Haken, and more Leprous!
The Weight of Disaster is a criminally underrated song by them. Some of my other favorites are Stuck, The Price, The Cloak, The Sky Is Red (insane drumming), Below and From the Flame (crazy catchy), Foced Entry (older track from the more "metal" days).
Please please react to more Leprous and Haken!! Welcome to the rabbit hole! LEPROUS: The Price, Illuminate, From the Flame, The Cloak, The Valley, The Sky is Red... HAKEN: Carousel, Darkest Light, The Endless Knot, Cockroach King, Puzzle Box, The Architect...
hope this becomes a journey for you and not just a one time thing. everything this band makes is beautiful. and pretty much every album of theirs sounds pretty different from one-another, yet still maintains their core sound. it's a great time.
Einar Solberg is my absolute favorite singer of all time.😍 Please react to Leprous: Aquired Taste, Stuck and White.🤘🏻 And Helloween: Ride The Sky and Judas.😋 The inventor of power metal from Germany.🤘🏻
Leprous is BEAST. Tracks to check out: 'The Price', 'Illuminate', 'Thorn'. You should also watch Baard's drum playthrough of 'Rewind', even if you don't react to it on the channel. It's absolutely primal.
Diligence and hard work, my man, talent can only get you so far without them You can achieve great things if you put in the work. I find stuff like this inspiring.
I pushed for Leprous a couple times as well, glad you got around to checking them out :D As far as modern prog goes, these guys are the real deal to me. They're really versatile in their sound and always manage to have catchy melodies with experimental (but cohesive) instrumentals. Also, apart from this song and some others, they rarely use harsh vocals. Should be easy for you to dig into!
I saw this band live last November (I think) and they were incredible. The whole bad is so tight but Einar's vocals definitely shine and Baard is just beast of a drummer. Highly recommend catching one of their gigs.
Leprous are among the best newer prog metal bands. Einar is amazing vocalist. And the drummer Kolstaad was a street drummer at the beginning. Now he is number one in Norway.
Rewind or Illuminate are both excellent songs to check out from Leprous. Great band, especially live. Einar has a crazy strong voice and Baard is a beast on the drums.
Finally listening to some Leprous! They will be one of your favourite bands from now on, you mark my words. I believe the pronunciation is LEP-rous, as in suffering from leprosy
Nice reaction! If you like live recordings of pristine quality and unbelievable energy, I recommend you Bent Knee - Catch Light live at Big Nice Studio. They went on tour with Leprous and Haken, really creative band that plays outstanding
Watching you become a metalhead over the past year +/- has been so cool. You even removed the "HIp-Hop Head Reacts To..." You're a gangster dude, bravo!
I bought this performance on DVD and it is one of the most dark, intense, heavy, percussive experiences of my life!!! My favorite as of right now! It's nice you experienced this performance before any studio performances....frankly I find the studio recorded performances have more of a pop/progressive sound? Not saying I don't like them but the live performance is so much better IMO!!
Leprous - Rewind drum playthrough. Baard is a beast. The heart of the band really, not a lot of bands mold their sound around the drums and use it as "main" instrument, if that makes sense. Front instrument i guess.
Check out The Flood off of the live from Rockefeller Music Hall release. I would also recommend The Live version of Acquired Taste. If you have not reviewed Riverside's latest release you should check out River Down Below.
Baard is actually pronounced like board. As in skateboard. Also. There is two drummers playing in this song. They also invited the original drummer to this performance. It is sick to play this song alone. Having two drummers playing it in unison for most of the song is mind bogeling!
Love it! Reccomend the song Third Law from the same show! If you're up for it, i allso would reccomend a band called Haken, a progressive metal band from the uk. Haken - Carousel, from their latest album, Virus! 🙌🙌
Yer mans vocals really catch people off guard, as they are quite operatic. He can totally hop off those high notes and tones that takes the band outta the "metal" zone,in terms of what people expect from a vocalist in this genre. The singer is making waves now with Ihshan -progressive black metal vocalist-, with their take on A-Ha's classic "Manhattan Skyline". As a fan of 80s music,Im enjoying hearing him doing that at the minute. As for Leperous themselves, I dont actually know much. This is me first time hearing his one. Interesting song.
Guess growing up around a brother in law who is one of the pioneers of black metal and an amazing composer in his own right pays off ey. You should have a look at "Contaminate Me" from the same gig if you want to know what I'm talking about - featuring Ihsahn who is Heidi Solberg/Starofash's husband, or as we that grew up in the 80s and 90s know her, Ihriel (Einar's sister, the vocalist for Leprous here), and founder of Emperor.
This has been a massive request for months - can we drop 100 likes in the first hour of this video being uploaded? Make it happen people, much love ❤️
They also did a cover of Massive Attack's "Angel" that was really good.
Finally getting into the good shit that's modern! There's still awesome metal coming out every year from our generation and future generations. Not everything is blend. 'Contaminate Me' from the same concert is *epic* with guest vox from Isahn of Emperor fame.
Baard Kolstad is a beast on the drums. You should check out one of his drum playthroughs. Any of them. They're all great.
Moon might be the best playthrough if you just want to be impressed and dazzled the whole way through
I would suggest moon too
SKY IS RED!! You must see Baard (the drummer) in the playthough video! Great vid btw keep it up
Baard Kolstad (drummer) actually got his start on Norway's Got Talent in 2009, and has been KILLING it since!

The sky is red is a masterpiece
I’d love to see him react to the drum playthroughs.
would love to see his reaction to the adorable hair ruffle
@Drew Fortune PLEASE watch Baard playing it in studio!
Ditto, The Sky is Red is one of the greatest performances of modern prog ever.
So much from these guys. Below, Bonnevile, The Price, Observe the Train, and everything else recommended.
Yessssss! More leprous please, just became a massive fan of their this year!
Where owls know my name
Hell yeah. Yes please! Do it!
No way!! You're getting deep into the best modern prog 👍 Haken - The Architect (featuring the Leprous vocalist briefly)

Haken where standing next to me last time i saw Leprous live

Le Prous 👌👌
The Valley, The Sky Is Red, Third Law, The Flood.... these guys don't have A SINGLE bad song, and I mean that literally.
Yesterday I watched for the first time "The Sky is Red" from Leprous, I recommend the Drum Playthrough or the live version.
Man, you HAVE TO watch "contaminate me" from the same show. It's out of words.
