  • Hello guys! Firstly I want to apologize for a late upload, I've had a lot going on this past month, and it's also taken me a while to make this long video as well. But I think a long video shall suffice for my unexcused absence. My upload schedule is probably going to be seemingly random instead of weekly, but I will definitely try to upload as frequently as I can. Thank you all so much.
The Great Houses of Morrowind is a governmental structure for the Dunmer of Morrowind. In this video I discuss the current houses, former houses, how the houses function, how they fail, and what impact they make on society in Morrowind.

I really like your content. Its a shame you seem to have stopped putting out these videos as your style and depth of explanation on the lore as opposed to the simple and oversaturated gameplay is refreshing. You have a soothing voice and carry your videos well with it. Nice cadence and tone. Not to mention cool artwork underlying the story you convey. Personally House Telvanni are my favourite of the Great Houses. The interest me due to how their Master Wizards are at the top of their society and how they'd rather isolate themselves and focus on their personal studies and in official bussiness would rather send their apprenticies in their place.

That and several among their council could easily be classed as the greatest wizards of their time.
In fact I'm pretty sure Divayth Fyr (Although more of an honorary member) is almost as old as Indoril Nerevar. He was there when the dwarves dissapeared.
The same goes with the other Telvanni Councilors, the longest lived, the most knowledgeable and hoarding the most artifacts of old.
Shame half of them are practically insane and the other half jaded.

The music of Morrowind is so soothing and the lore fascinating. Just hearing the Morrowind main theme flushes forth nostalgic memories of being 13 playing nonstop until my original xbox overheated or else got a disc read error while going through the sheogorad or red mountain regions. I always thought it was shit that you couldn't go to mainland Morrowind, to see the houses of Dres and Indoril, or see the city of Necron. Luckily, Tamriel Rebuilt fixed this.

Great work there, Lady! Impeccable and pleasent narration, compliments even more deserved given the not-so-easy topic of the discussion. Personally, despite the fact that I love Morrowind and all all its aspects, I have a weakness for the ambiguous House Hlaalu, the first great house I've played, 'cause I'm fascinated by such kind of intrigue (Stealty 4evah) developed in a complex society like that of the Dunmer.
    Cheers with sujamma!

Something I only noticed after watching this video: in skyrim in the city of Windhelm one of the dunmer are a descendant of house Hlaalu, named Belyn Hlaalu and he is also the only one who has a positive attitude about gaining the Nords respect; fitting with the house's description of wanting to get along with the other races and a neat detail for observatant players I think

Great video, but as someone rather well-versed in Imperial history, I have to point something out.
The Empire didn't actually withdraw any of its forces from Morrowind. In fact, the only forces it recalled were the ones from Fort Swampmoth in Black Marsh. This is made clear throughout the events of TES IV, where High Chancellor Ocato states quite clearly how he can't pull back forces due to the entire army being fully commited, and the political aftermath it would have if he were to actually call them back. And note that this was when Martin Septim's own life hung in the balance.
The County of Leyawiin also makes it rather clear; pointing out how even before the latest crisis the Empire didn't use its troops to get rid of the local Khajiiti unrest, and how it rather used its Legions for the other provinces; leaving Cyrodiil to fend for itself. Which is proven true during the ''Allies for Bruma'' questline.
That little nitpick aside, though, very good video! Can't wait for the next one!

    • @ladyofscrolls4598
      @ladyofscrolls4598  5 років тому +6

Ah, I see. I agree with your evidence here, as I remember that quest now that I think about it, and it makes perfect sense. However both the official and the unofficial elder scrolls wiki list Adril Arano's dialogue from TES V: Skyrim Dragonborn's DLC as a sufficient source for that particular bit, but they didn't seem to mention his exact quote. Even going to his page on either wiki will lead to much of his dialogue, but no dialogue backing that info. I was genuinely curious, so I actually opened Skyrim and played every mission for Raven Rock to find a specific quote, and after an hour or two I found it and took a screenshot: imgur.com/a/AJGpC9w
Although this is the only evidence I could find online of that info though. Perhaps Adril is telling the truth, or they could make him exaggerate it simply because of how greatly the Dunmer suffered during the Oblivion Crisis and the events afterwards. Or perhaps Bethesda overlooked it and forgot that particular questline happened in TES IV: Oblivion. Either way it wasn't something I could ignore, it is unfortunate either wiki couldn't provide this line of dialogue on his page, or perhaps I didn't dig deep enough. But thank you so much, I really do appreciate any input on my videos, and I thank you for your kind words!

      +Lady of Scrolls
Considering the strong anti-Empire mentality that the Redoran had, I see quite a lot of motivation for a member of theirs to spread lies about the Empire in order to weaken the support of the Hlaalu and increase the support for themselves. Considering the Redoran refuses to allow the Nerevarine to join their House during TES III under the suspicion of them working with the Empire.
My pleasure, by the way. You're one of the few UA-cam lore channels to actually list their sources; that's something worth admiring.

    • @ladyofscrolls4598
      @ladyofscrolls4598  5 років тому +3

@@dutchpatriot17 ah, that makes much more sense now! As that quest I was doing in that image was centered around discovering the plot to kill the redoran leader in Raven rock by the hlaalu family. And Adril specifically had an animosity towards imperials and imperial authority, as a lot of his dialogue was about it. Thank you again for bringing this to my attention! It makes much more sense now. And also thank you for taking notice at my sourcing, I don't want to spread misinformation, or exaggeration. Although it can be hard when even in lore characters themselves exaggerate a bit it seems lol

      General Falco
      Your missing something ese though
The empire never conquered or beat morrowind. In fact their army was beaten several times effortlessly.
During the events of ES3 the Tribunal allowed the Imperial NAME on morrowind so they could deal with Dagoth Ur. But no imperial forces had any power or laws in morrowind. They had glorified shipping ports.
The empire and tiber septim only won a formality of a empire on morrowind.
couple that with that tiber lost a fight to vivec just makes it sweeter.
the telvanni also destroyed any incursion on their coast so badly that empire forces completely abandoned any attempts there or on the main island obviously because vivec would have just sank them all. They won mournhold in one instance of the empire vs morrowind because they avoided fighting, but then subequently lost it after actually having to face the dunmer army.
The imperial are incredibly incompetent and arrogant when facing the dunmer and no one except the nords ever even managed to slightly hold territory on them. And that was before the tribunal came around.
The argonians even launched an entire invasion on morrowind after the Red year when the meteor destroyed mainland morrowind and they still lost to house redoran and pushed back. And the argonians were the ones who pushed into daedric lands that the daedra shut their gates down.

Interesting summary. It shows how much lore was put into Morrowind, they created 2 houses: Indoril and Dres, who weren't even in the game. Then, in Skyrim, it was mentioned that Hlaalu were replaced by Sadras, however we never got to learn any details about them. There was less effort to create background lore in Skyrim unfortunately.

I don't really care for video games. I'd normally just watch my brother play them as a kid. But there are two exceptions... Morrowind and ocarina of time. I LOVED these games. Fallout 1 was good too.

The Dunmers only problems are slavery, and not preparing for Red Mountains eruption.
If they can recover good enough then the newly covered land of Resdayn may actually be a benifit to them. More land=more places to build and more resources pulled up from the volcano to use.
The Dunmer need to think about their houses though and elect a more central focused government or a grand council with a high councilor.
And since they no longer have the Tribunal they should consider building more powerful structures and defenses in light of arogonia's failed invasion and to ensure the empire never again comes to morrowind and tries to force them into submission.
The Telvanni lords should start to take a more formal role in defense and government of Morrowind with House Redoran armies

In eso Morrowind expansion i have understand that Almanexia vivec and sotha sil had betrayed indoril nerevar to take the power. Do i understood wrong?

123telamon Eh, kinda but not really. Almalexia, Sotha Sil, Vivec and Dagoth Ur were all advisors to Nerevar, who was king among the Chimer. Following the war between the Chimer and the Dwemer, Nerevar and his council came into possession of the Heart of Lorkhan after Nerevar slew King Dumac of the Dwemer and Kagronac, lead scientist among the Dwemer struck the Heart and subsequently caused the vanishing of his entire race within an instant. Not knowing what to do with the item, and being aware of his coming death, Nerevar agreed with his council that the Heart would lie under the protection and study of Sotha Sil, Vivec and Almalexia, though they were never to use it to further their own power, something that Nerevar trusted his closest friend Dagoth Ur to ensure. Following the Battle of Red Mountain, the Tribunal went to collect the Heart, only to find Dagoth Ur in their path, who had been corrupted by its power and had committed himself to animating the god weapon of their enemy, the Numidium. A fight ensued and Dagoth Ur managed to escape, though he was forced to leave the Heart behind as he fled.
After extensive study, Sotha Sil had found a way to use the Heart to transfer the power of Lorkhan, the Divines who created Nirn into themselves, thus making them as powerful as one of the Divines as a Tribunal. With Dagoth Ur out of the picture there was no one left to stop them so they all agreed (the bit that was technically a betrayal of Nerevar as they broke their word). After this, they declared themselves gods and that the Chimer no longer needed the three they had previously worshipped, Boethia, Azura and Mephala. This made Azura quite mad as she immediately proceeded to appear before them, cursing the three along with their entire race, marking their skin with the ash of the Red Mountain, thus creating the Dunmer.
In using the Heart to become immortal gods to watch over and protect their people, the Tribunal had betrayed the trust of Nerevar and the word they swore to him. But it was not a betrayal in the sense they stabbed him in the back in pursuit of personal power or anything

123telamon thats a dramatic switch in tone from someone asking if they understood the lore correctly and being told the actual lore of what happened. Even then if you wanna play like that after the death of Dagoth Ur and following Sotha Sil’s murder at the hand of Almalexia and her resultant death following confrontation by the Nerevarine, the entire Dunmer culture rejected them as false gods, labelling them as “the false tribunal” and restoring the pantheon of Azura, Boethia and Mephala to what was labelled by the Dunmer as “the true tribunal” so they aren’t even the Dunmer gods...

Sorry but i think you're getting clans and houses confused. Clan Ra'Athim was a clan within the House Mora that was subsequently absorbed into house Hlaalu also there had always been kings and queens of Morrowind Queen Barenziah was of Royal blood so was Nightngale as both were of clan Ra'Athim which is why the staff of chaos was able to be stolen.

so in hindsight the fall of the dunmer was of there own making the slave trade made the argoniens pissed and well black marsh is rather close to marrowwind and the constant butting heads between "the house's" made the dunmer weaker huh there kinda like the alyids in that regard of have an empire but in there arrogance that doomed there empire . . . . . . . . . . and the thalmor think the elfs are flawless -_-
