I love the Dunmer. They retain classic Dark Elf traits: Assassination, magic, slavery, internal fighting, etc. But they are not really evil. Just grim, from living in a harsh world. And the Dunmer political system is truly unique. Great Houses dividing Morrowind between them, functioning collectively as a republic. With the Tribunal state religion to unite them. Elegant, subtle, beautiful. Great House Telvanni forever!

Morrowind the greatest province in the elder scrolls games that's the first elder scrolls game I played and fell in love with it seemed like it was made at a time before Bethesda got lazy
I agree, but instead of getting lazy, I think they heavily drew on whatever was popular at the time. Skyrim is obviously heavily influenced by early seasons of Game of Thrones. Oblivion clearly draws upon the Lord of the Rings trilogy. But LotR was the real milestone for high fantasy in the mainstream. Thus for Morrowind, influences that existed were animated kid's movies like Fern Gully, Thumbelina, old 1970s fantasy animation, Princess Mononoke/Slayers, or even DnD concept art for the time. You can clearly see all of those influences in Morrowind... but since most of that was foreign to the public at large, Morrowind comes off VERY uniquely designed in a way Oblivion or Skyrim don't (because we're used to seeing things like GoT or The Hobbit). Dunmer are obviously a unique take on the Drow, for example... but who back then would even know what a drow is?

@@Over_It Well, Morrowind came out in 2003, I'd been playing Baldur's Gate 1 and 2 full of Drow and Hordes of the Underdark, a dlc for NWN came out about that time too. Drizzt was popular in literature. Anyone who had been playing D&D even a little knew about Drow for at least a decade already. And everyone in fantasy drew from LotR since the 1950's. What made Morrowind stand out was its mythology and writing that drew on sources going back to the earliest stories of man, all the world creation stuff, aedra and daedra are adaptations of the world's mythologies. And they owe a heavy debt to Gregg Stafford and Runequest, Empire of the Petal Throne and other popular RPGs of the 70's and 80s that informed the writers of Morrowind from their childhoods. When I started playing Morrowind I realised Tamriel had gone from the quasi D&D of Daggerfall to full blown alien world. It never got back to those heights sadly.
I'd argue that Skyrim was the last time Bethesda put honest to god effort into a game. Thing is, it was such a success, that they've never have to put any effort into anything else. Just re-release it and it'll sell.

Nice camera work! Well delivered, deep lore. The regional differences were reflected in houses policy wise and stylistically. One of the best RPGs on any platform, and IMO the best Elder Scrolls game. Such unique landscapes and timelessly haunting music by the legendary Jeremy Soule.
Idk if you've done this one already but I think it'd be cool to hear about all the different afterlives of the races of Tamriel. Great video as always!
House Telvanni I feel like is the Mosg powerful house but just doesn’t care about the rest of morrowind. Or anything outside their wizard towers. They just chill and do unspeakable horrors to random people to gain more power
I have gone so far into this lore lmao... Like in my head. My morrowind character and my oblivion characters. In my little head. The two hero's met and had a family together and that family was past down hundreds of years to skyrim. My skyrim character is the 6th generation nord in the family(my characters). (Yes this makes the neverine and the hero kavatch related to the dragonborn. What? Are you gonna sue me?)
After this video I think House Redoran is my favorite of the houses. I like that they value honesty, respect, and honor. This video also makes me appreciate that House Redoran is the controller of Vvardenfell instead of any other house.
House Hlaluu was really rich house even they give Stronghold with expensive Ebony Blade,Ebony Darts and two personal trainers in stronghold for 5000 gold
I wish we got to know what role house Sadras does for the governance of Morrowind (aside from just fulfilling the gap left by Hlaalu when it was stripped of its status)
thanks, I need a little road to memory lane because its embarrassing I forgot the Morrowind lore when I started playing ESO when my first ES game was Morrowind lol
There are some things I disagree with. Regarding the Telvanni I think it should be noted that they aren't as racist as they may seem. They do accept outlanders in their order and let them ascend it as shown in ESO(Sun-In-Shadow) and TES III(Anora). In fact they are among the most meritocrayic houses. Since their criteria is how much someone encompasses and lives by the "Telvanni way". Concerning their demise I am really surprised no one points out the inconsistency with the story that they were wiped out by the Argonians. Argonians made it up to Mournhold. Noone managed to advance to Vvardenfell. And Telvannis reside in northern Vvardenfell. And since the Argonian armeis reached Mournhold, this story of them slaughtering Telvannis seems too far fetched for me. Especially noting how to reach a Telvanni you have to be a really good mage and to kill one you have to be a national powerhouse. Telvanni Magisters afterall are terrifyingly powerful. Not too far behind(if behind at all) to the psijics. It is far more likely that they were killed with the eruption of Red Mountain, than to any Argonian blade.
House redoran holds a lot of great values basically honor, and house hlaalu is probably my favorite overall basically no racism , but house indoril's architecture is so awesome hard choice for me
Also, this technically means 6 houses I need support from, or would've, my fellow Argonians supposedly destroyed house Dres, leaving 5, Hlaalu lost their status according to your video to a new great house, lowering the total to 4, I already have support from Redoran and Telvani, so only 2 houses till Morrowind joins the Ebonheart Pact
God I need to replay Morrowind with Tamriel Rebuilt. I remember hearing of the mod not long after Morrowind came out. Never in a million years did I think that it would not only still be going so many years later, but be of such astounding quality.
Redoran and Telvani are both allied since I aided the counselor on Sholsteim who is head of house Redoran and helped Neloth, head of house Telvani. With two families allied to the stormcloaks, just one more family till Morrowind has to join the reformed Ebonheart Pact I lead.
The Dark Elves could conquer tamriel if they actually worked as single Nation. They are excellent warriors, excellent mages, excellent strategists with a culture of combat and structure. And all dark elves live for hundreds of years sometimes thousands if they are magically talented. They have the land (or at least had*) the land needed to support a standing army of mages and battalions of warriors. Natural barriers of mountains and volcanos that only they really thrive in. And a mainland protected by an ocean that they have singular control over. They hold themselves back with archaic traditions of house on house warfare. And slavery has been their biggest crutch for hundreds of years and causes their downfall after Red Mountain erupted and the argonians attacked. The argonians almost won. They attacked the dunmer at their weakest and could have taken all morrowind if it werent for the fact that Dunmer are even more tenacious than Argonians fueled with Hist sap.
let's not forget they got fucked by the nords until the fucking gods made them lose at red mountain got fucked by the Kamal got fucked diplomatically by the septim empire got fucked by argonians on hist sap (argonians are underrated to be fair) and the average lifespan of a dunmer is 100-200 only a select few manage to live longer without daedric influence and they don't have the tribunal anymore
I just realized: if Azura didn't just shrink the chimer as well as turn them grey-skinned and red-eyed, then the chimer short sometime after leaving Summurset. Has this ever been discussed?
I'd say that was basically evolution. After all a smaller body is an advantage in a country that isn't exactly known for food being there in big amounts. So I'd say the first Dunmer still were a lot taller than the modern ones. Considering the modern Altmer are the race closest to the original Aldmer, we can assume that all races of Mer originally were quite tall. So we should also assume that the Chimer were, like you pointed out, quite tall. (I suspect the first Chimer of Resdayn to be roughly the hight of a modern Nord) But the Dunmer have lived in these harsh lands for several thousand years, so we can assume that their bodies kept changing in those millenias to secure their survival.

There are six Great House last in Morrowind, and an interesting thing is that each one has a foil, which are similar but distinctly different. Redoran and Indoril are nationalistic, with strong ties to tradition and dislike foreign powers, such as the Empire. Redoran is composed of strong warriors who hack the government, and Indoril is comprised of spiritualists who hack the temple. Hlaalu and Dres are both trade houses. Hlaalu trade in goods, who have strong ties with those outside of Morrowind, but are looked down on the native Dunmer, while Dres are slavers who deal in slaves, who have strong ties in Morrowind but are looked down on by those outside of Morrowind where slavery is illegal. Telvanni and Dagoth are more about the strength of the individual instead of the House as a whole, who don’t care about politics, who will do anything to get ahead.
Dagoth is destroyed, Telvanni is greatly weakened, Hlaalu isn't a house anymore, Dres is practically anhailated by the Accession War, and Indoril without the temple is useless.

The only reason it was hard to pick between Telvanni and Hlaalu was because of Crassius Curio.
*for some reason.*
In morrowind I DEADASS have 2 saves same character but one route I went hlaalu one route I went telvanni it’s great
@@mysteriaxo5671 same
My favorite part is at minute 4 when you're talking about Mephala with the Dunmer walking in the background and he just phases through the bridge. Really brings the "lies" part into fruition
Is this how you honour the sixth house unmourned
Idk if you've done this one already but I think it'd be cool to hear about all the different afterlives of the races of Tamriel. Great video as always!
Luna Athena Yeah they've got one here: ua-cam.com/video/9raSqlhMcnw/v-deo.html
16:30 THAT MER JUST FLOATED MID-AIR!
This one knows Velsa was once a part of House Dres. She freed the slaves and this one is happy she did so.
It's pretty cool to piece together how much the elder scrolls is inspired by dnd lore, especially in regards to dark elves
House Telvanni I feel like is the Mosg powerful house but just doesn’t care about the rest of morrowind.
Or anything outside their wizard towers. They just chill and do unspeakable horrors to random people to gain more power
Definitely thought this would be a Scott video. Good to hear you again, Drew!
As a member of House Dagoth I feel sad that Dagoth was NOT INCLUDED IN THE TITLE
I hope for more in-depth race story questline in Elder Scrolls 6, so you can get a unique feel for each race. Even though the main story is the same.
Drescher1984 lol yeah Bethesda is not gonna try that hard
That won't happen cuz muh racism.
This video coming out around this time is a little ironic for me cause I just recently decided to play through Morrowind again lol.
I love the indoril architecture style especially with mgso installed to give it the pink Japanese style trees it’s just really neat
I spieth Morrowind Gameplay
And I was glad.
Wow this a a wonderful video, The Great Houses of Morrowind on my birthday.
Hbd
After this video I think House Redoran is my favorite of the houses. I like that they value honesty, respect, and honor. This video also makes me appreciate that House Redoran is the controller of Vvardenfell instead of any other house.
This does not honor the 6th house and the tribe unmourned.
Pathetic
Hears Hlaalu merchant's guild.
*Hey Hey people, Sseth here*
4:23 can you spot the floating elf?
The elder scrolls 3 was so life changing for me it is so breath taking i love the grate houses 5 game plays just to understand it all
House Hlaluu was really rich house even they give Stronghold with expensive Ebony Blade,Ebony Darts and two personal trainers in stronghold for 5000 gold
Im here to pay tribute to the sixth house and the tribe unmourned.
You guys always provide such eloquent perspective on beloved topics. Thank you
I wish we got to know what role house Sadras does for the governance of Morrowind (aside from just fulfilling the gap left by Hlaalu when it was stripped of its status)
That sound track… beautiful!
How Redoran has strayed from Mufasa, they gotta remember who they are.
Gotta love the lore videos. It’s the best part about my mornings
thanks, I need a little road to memory lane because its embarrassing I forgot the Morrowind lore when I started playing ESO when my first ES game was Morrowind lol
If i could be any race in the elder scrolls it would be a dark elf for sure i love the race and their culture and history
House Redoran is my favorite house
Jiub: Wake Up. We're Here. Why are you shaking? Are you ok? Wake up. Stand up. There you go. You were dreaming. What's your name?
Hell, they even let the Dragonborn in regardless of what race they are.
Excellent dialogue about the Morrowind great houses. Thank you.
🙃☕❤❤❤❤
House redoran holds a lot of great values basically honor, and house hlaalu is probably my favorite overall basically no racism , but house indoril's architecture is so awesome hard choice for me
@An Orc Warrior nah it doesnt practice slavery but dunmer are just racist ppl it's not down to the great houses
@An Orc Warrior that's different
I love anything involving the dunmer they are the best
The dunmer seem to have the coziest houses
Also, this technically means 6 houses I need support from, or would've, my fellow Argonians supposedly destroyed house Dres, leaving 5, Hlaalu lost their status according to your video to a new great house, lowering the total to 4, I already have support from Redoran and Telvani, so only 2 houses till Morrowind joins the Ebonheart Pact
I'm glad the Argonians got their revenge. Slavery is among the greatest of evils.
I just want another Morrowind level elder scrolls. The system in that game is way better then Skyrim or the online game it's unreal.
The morrowind theme at the beginning had me feeling giddy inside
God I need to replay Morrowind with Tamriel Rebuilt. I remember hearing of the mod not long after Morrowind came out. Never in a million years did I think that it would not only still be going so many years later, but be of such astounding quality.
This video is the perfect companion for my new Morrowind playthrough! #HouseTelvanni
Redoran and Telvani are both allied since I aided the counselor on Sholsteim who is head of house Redoran and helped Neloth, head of house Telvani. With two families allied to the stormcloaks, just one more family till Morrowind has to join the reformed Ebonheart Pact I lead.
My man, absolute perfect timing for me. Great content as usual.
5:59 House Telvanni operated in the yeast...
Well...yeast are a fungi, so it's not entirely false.
I thought you said weast
House Hlaalu for life
Aah the guy that walked through the bridge at ~4:00
a remake for morrowind and oblivion would be awesome
Just started. I feel like I have arrived home.
Is being a daedric artifact worth it?
those armors on the thumbnail would be sick to play with
The Dark Elves could conquer tamriel if they actually worked as single Nation.
They attacked the dunmer at their weakest and could have taken all morrowind if it werent for the fact that Dunmer are even more tenacious than Argonians fueled with Hist sap.
let's not forget they got fucked by the nords until the fucking gods made them lose at red mountain
got fucked by the Kamal
got fucked diplomatically by the septim empire
got fucked by argonians on hist sap (argonians are underrated to be fair)
and the average lifespan of a dunmer is 100-200 only a select few manage to live longer without daedric influence
and they don't have the tribunal anymore
Top quality, as always. Thank you!
Yes! I've been waiting for this one! Thanks FudgeMuppet! Keep up the good work!
House Telvanni is the best of the great houses. Change my mind.
Me too my main is a Redguard pure mage.
@@redguardpuremage9641 Unconventional...I like it. I recently started an Orc Mage playthrough
Indoril
Redoran.
Uncompromising, principled, disciplined and committed.
Convinced?
Hlaalu master race.
Coolest name, Telvanni is the big gay.
(I suspect the first Chimer of Resdayn to be roughly the hight of a modern Nord)
But the Dunmer have lived in these harsh lands for several thousand years, so we can assume that their bodies kept changing in those millenias to secure their survival.
@@meme-yu3zp actually Altmer height is most likely a result of of their culture, Path of Alaxon. They are eugenicists so taller=better
@@avgvstvs7 Good point, perhaps it's a mixture of both?
@@meme-yu3zp most likely culture of eugenics and path to alaxon, altmer born with deformities are pushed out of mainstream society and live hermit hunter lives while people that reject to conform with path to alaxon are completely abandoned by altmer
@@meme-yu3zp there is no mention of chimer, falmer, ayleid or dwemer being tall even though they are earliest to diverge from aldmer (supposedly) falmer we see in dawnguard are perfectly normal height same wih ayleid ghosts zombies
@@curtiswong7280 House Hlaalu is still a Great House - it's just been kicked from the Grand Council due to Redoran corruption.
@@dutchpatriot17 It becomes a House but not a Great House. The prefix "Great" is exclusive for the 5 of the ruling council.

@@curtiswong7280 Also, fyi, the term '"Great House'' was also used when the Grand Council wasn't a thing.
Great video. Almost wanna make on and play... To bad there mer. Mer started the fight men will finish it.
