      Sorry for your loss and for the impolite reply that I decided to ignore to avoid a long-winded counterpoint. Your reminder is very helpful as we should always have jack stands when jacking a car, but I do want to point out that no one in this video is underneath the car or otherwise in any obvious danger if the jack were to fail. An arm does seem to go under the front to give a camera view of the front links, but even then a jack failure would cause the front end to rise, not fall. It's still good to remind people that jack stands are life-saving equipment, however. Jacks can fail or slip at any moment.

    I get that people make mistakes and shit happens... I am usually very chill if a friend makes a mistake.
    But this was just purely stupid... why would you ever take your friends car out and try to drift it on public streets, It would be stupid enough on a empty parking lot, and be zero damage...
    Especially with 1000hp monster you're not used to, and with the yoke wheel that you're not used to.
    I have over 200 000km on my Model 3 Performance, I have a lot of experience on sliding and track mode. I would've never have tried to drift that corner without winter conditions.
    Winter is much safer because everything is so much slower and doesn't need so much momentum to get sliding.
    Hopefully this guy gets more respect for others car after this, this was just extremely stupid.

      As with every mistake, hopefully, he learns a thing or two and will be very careful with other cars he will drive.
      I never claimed they shouldn't be friends, or get fired... or anything. Just acknowledging the really stupid mistake. I think the guy who crashed probably agrees with me that it was really stupid 😆

      Look at video of accident again through front camera.
      He came in quite slow and you and I havent tried that in a plaid.
      We dont know throttle mapping handling etc.
      It is a heavy car and not a model 3 performance.
      It seemed the weight just came straight around and he seemed like he did weĺll to stamp on brakes as was a passenger from then on.
      It goes fast in a straight line but instant torque with those 2 rear motors just doesn't seem very driveable .

    • @huzygaming7216
      @huzygaming7216 2 роки тому +2

      @@AG-ob3fx the number one problem was the judgement to put on rear-bias/drift mode(track mode) to try and slide on a public road in a car you're not used to.
      I don't blame him because he didn't catch the slide, I probably wouldn't have either. But I blame the judgement to do that in someone elses 1000hp, half-steering wheel car while saying "I did in in the Miata"...

    My guess is $10,000 and six months. I got rear-ended last year in my Model 3 and went through the Tesla collision center in Denver. Great guys and did a very good job but took three (3!) months and $8,000 (covered by the offender's insurance). Of course my $800/month loan payments and non-use of the car were not covered. The offender's insurance offered me a 10 year old ICE car as a substitute...I refused.

    Kind of a small little "moment," but I expect an astronomical repair bill. By all means, let us follow that on the Out of Spec Repairs (whoops, "Reviews") channel, as this all adds up to "UA-cam content" that plenty of us will be interested in. Let me start by saying that I have been an Out of Spec subscriber for years, and Kyle's personality has had plenty to do with that. And Jordan has been doing absolutely excellent work that I have enjoyed. So, yes, there will be problems, but keep up the outstanding work.
    That said, I consider this to be just another chapter in what frustrates me so much with a lot of UA-cam "car" channels. I hope your organization will use this to make some VERY simple rules for everyone involved: Like "Don't drive like you're on a race track, when you're driving on public roads." So simple. Please. Nothing bothers me more than Kyle's "canyon carving" -- yes, we can see those 35 MPH speed limit signs, and we can often see the speedometer, going up over 70 MPH, over 75 MPH. Not just "20 over" -- which the police in my area will charge you for "reckless driving," but far over that, all the way to "more than double the speed limit." Yes, absolutely, Kyle has proven that he is an excellent, accomplished driver. He can and does drive very quickly through the Nürburgring, talking just as fast all along the way, but that is a CONTROLLED environment. Public roads are the exact opposite.
    The scenario that always comes to mind with me is "some young family driving a few miles ahead of Kyle," a young couple with a young daughter and a new puppy. For whatever reason, they go around a curve and decide to stop -- either to look at the scenery, or perhaps the puppy needs to stop for a break. Then the young daughter opens up a rear door, the puppy jumps out and starts running across the road, and the little daughter runs after it. And then Kyle Conner comes blasting around the blind curve at 75 MPH, and there's nothing he can do. Kyle gets arrested for reckless driving and vehicular manslaughter and/or vehicular homicide -- and then he can spend several years in prison, thinking about the UA-cam career he tossed away by using "public roads" as "a race track."
    SAVE IT FOR THE TRACK. EVERY BIT OF IT. Is that too much to ask? I'm sure there are tracks you can use, rather than hooning around on public roads. Of course, you have "been there before," but it's a long drive to the East Coast now. Find a local track, and do your testing there, if you decide that cars "must" be "fun" enough to drive that you need to do race-speed testing with them. For instance, it's like the Model S Plaid -- here's a thousand-horsepower car with an abnormal steering control. "Hey, why don't you take everyone who will drive that thing out on a track, so they can learn how to drive a car with a yoke?" Since apparently Tesla doesn't care about such things.
    Seriously, most of us "viewers" can't afford cars to just "play" with -- we have to take care of them, so we can use them every day for years to come. Geez, folks, this kind of thing just doesn't need to happen. Drive like lawful citizens on the public roads, and go "have fun" on a track. Please.

    Tell the police that someone took the Suburban for a joyride and stole the contents and the keys. It's not an unusual event. The only unusual thing is that they put the truck back in the spot where they found it. Usually they find a joyride vehicle abandoned in some sketchy place.

    Sorry for this being in the wrong video, but I have a suggestion for the hogback driver assistance challenge which is to also measure the repeatability of the driver assistance systems. I did some experiments with autopilot by driving the same route multiple times with the same settings. I would then line up the time on the videos and do a pixel by pixel subtraction in premiere pro. It was quite interesting to see what was and was not repeatable on the same stretch of road (it let me see that most of the time, the car seems to take the same route down to about 2 inches for my test road).
    Also, I think track mode logs the steering wheel rotation angle as well as other data which could let you know more of what happened.

      True but at the same time this isn’t some hundred-year-old car company. This is literally their first vehicle. Honestly if you don’t expect these things going in you’re a bit naïve. I think it’s far more important on how the company addresses them and fixes them.

    • @spcneary
      @spcneary 2 роки тому

      @@lawnmowerdude irrelevant IMO, there is a reason new car manufacturers don't pop up constantly. It takes allot of work to design a vehicle, and as a company you get one chance to earn a reputation. If a vehicle starts to have issues before 10k miles it wasn't ready for production. We are not talking about a $100 pair of jeans, or a $1400 smart phone, we are talking about a truck that costs as much as a house in some places. I like the rivian, but I won't spend that kind of money to be a part of the R&D team.
