  • Adding an element of surprise, the Direct Connection team unveiled a prototype Drag Pak vehicle at the recent Roadkill Nights event in Pontiac, Michigan. This groundbreaking car featured the new Hurricane6 "CAT 3" crate engine, boasting a remarkable 550 horsepower and 531 lb.-ft. of torque at a mere 3,500 rpm.
The CAT 3-equipped 2021 Dodge Challenger Drag Pak made several runs down the Woodward Ave. track. Despite its potential, the runs seemed somewhat reserved, leaving the crowd perplexed. The high-pitched growl of the inline-six engine was a stark departure from the expected deep-throated HEMI roar, prompting some surprise and curiosity among the spectators.

This was a total embarrassment to dodge and dodge lovers every where!

Yikes. Looks like the Mustang will garner the majority of sales in the next few years and maybe even beyond. Yes, the Hurricane may be more powerful, but non-Dodge fans will never understand that it's not all about power. When I start my cammed 5.7 Jeep in the morning, it always puts a smile on my face. I couldn't care less about being the fastest... something about the rumble of a V8 that can never be replaced. The only V6 that sounds better to me is the GTR, but that's a completely different animal. Dodge may have shot themselves in the foot. I understand it's mainly Stellantis pushing this, but you'd think there'd be some pushback from Dodge. To kill off your bread and butter is insane

    Sounds like a vacuume cleaner

  • @robmalone4990

Sounds like dodge is in trouble. Go from selling hellcats with that whine to this.

  • @christianschrimsher3803

The way it takes off looks like an FRS could beat it

  • @frickenbored

I give Dodge 3-5 years before Stellantis drops them. Without V8s they are nothing. And if this is any indication of the future...it might not even take that long.

That engine sounds terrible... so sad

  • @MoparRican_93

Honestly sounds like a Bmw M4 competition engine in a Challenger body

I have reason to believe that the engine's capability were not fully at display here. According to some sources, the engine was not turned up. AKA, little to no boost. Why, you ask? It's a prototype car and for whatever reason they just wanted to display the car with little to none of the boost turned up. I have a feeling this engine is far more capable than what we're led to believe.

    That Engine is absolute Dooky.

My brain is confused: sees American muscle, hears European sports car

  • @theorderofthepurplephoenix3321

Looks like we have finally passed the peak of engines, it’s downhill from here

  • @Derly24

Honestly, the Hurricane engine Challenger sounds beautiful and had quite the launch there. The turbo spoiling adding to its nice exhaust.

  • @overlord6815

I'd take this over a Scatpack. The tuning potential has to be nuts

  • @user-ve5vu9ts8l

I'm surprised no one here has compared the sound of this to a Buick Grand national. I got one actually hope this engine finds its way into an updated Challenger. I miss the sound of my Buick and it would be cool to have something modern that was comparable. As much as I like the current challenges, Dodge just didn't refresh them enough over the years.

  • @brooks74silverbee

If Dodge even thinks this is possible with a big heavy car like this they better come with more than 550 hp & AWD to make an i6 turbo setup worth getting rid of the Hemi!!!

  • @mrhyde0705

Put it up against the legit drag pak. Or even a scat to see how it really does. It seems excessively slow.

  • @davidmarcoux7888

My God does that sound great! So much more muscle than the hemi in that exhaust.

  • @MaddNomad1015

    That’s the Sixpack 😂

  • @fenrir309

No . Absolutely not. I'm a Mopar Musclecar guy and own several. Most of us already suffered through the turbo 4 cylinder Daytona, Charger , Omni GLH and Shadow period. For buying new muscle , I was forced to switch to a 5.0 Mustang until the Hemi Challenger finally came out. I swear I'll do it again and this time I wont come back.
