Pink Floyd comfortably numb Pulse 94 live reaction. This is one of those live shows you have to see before you die.Thankfully,we now have the internet and UA-cam in particular to make this possible.
The song itself is a life influencing experience.Everyone has experienced a situation when something or a situation in life left you numb.
Here is a reminder for us all.The two guitar solos are so contrasting and powerful with the different messages they conveyed.
This is a classic and a masterpiece and i hope you find this video reaction worthy of this incredible Pink Floyd song.

Harri, if you want to TRULY experience Floyd as it was meant to be, it is REQUIRED that you listen to Dark Side Of The Moon from start to finish. It cant be fully appreciated without this. If you could do a reaction to the entire Dark Side album, it would be amazing for us, and it will change your life, like it does for most people. There are very few musical experiences like Dark Side in its entirety. Close To The Edge by Yes is another example of this (another masterpiece of 20th Century music). Great reaction!

You had the same kind of reaction that I get every time I listen to this song, and I've probably heard it at least 500 times. It gets me every time.
The second solo brings forth all the pain and angst inside, and at least for me that makes it cathartic because it lets it out and washes it away, so I feel like I've been washed clean every time I hear it. Thanks for a great reaction video =D

I totally agree, but I feel that way about pretty much all music. David, in the Bible, was a musician so it is meant for us to enjoy music. Gilmour's solo on the studio version often tops polls, but such polls don't seem to count live versions (which is a rather silly criterion, e.g. Page's solo on "Stairway to Heaven" from the live MSG gig in 1973 easily beats the studio version too).

That PULSE live version is even better with a very long 2nd solo, David Gilmour took the time to buid it, and your emotion goes higher and higher... as he plugs his guitar directly to your soul....
And i always loved David's warm voice !

I saw this same show in N.Y. 1994. The concert brochure said the stage is 120 feet wide. It takes a crew of 60 technicians three days to set up the entire lights and all. The concert schedule required that there had to be three entire crews to keep up. They leap froged each other for 92 shows with 20 Trucks per crew and a total staff of 195. The tour cost the promoters $98.MILLION to put on, but the total profit was $260 MILLION…
I have seen Pink Floyd 4 times. Nick Mason’s drumming is incredible and matches Gilmour’s guitar emotions while Richard Wright takes us on a Magic Carpet Ride of tones that form the foundation of it all.

Actually if you have a nice set of good quality stand alone speakers you're in pretty good shape. That's how I listened to these albums back in the day and the sound was excellent if not better than headphones. Of course I had four speakers surrounding my room that delivered high quality amped up quad sound. But that's your call. People will tell you what this song technically is supposed to mean in context of the album or when Roger wrote it, but what it means to you is every bit as valid. I know what it meant to me the first time I heard it... really heard it on the radio. And it is that impact and emotion that has always stayed with me all these years later. the other stuff is just interesting background, although please understand in context of 'The Wall' album the song does takes on a very specific meaning. Great reaction!!

Spoken about gitarists. After your long PF journey, go have a look at Stevie Ray Vaughan playing Texas Food live at El Mocambo. After that SRV is definitly on your mindlist of best gitarists.

I guess the song is he had an illness before a show and it reminded him of being ill as a child, feverish etc. Before the show, the doctor probably gave him a shot for pain, making him loopy. I had appendicitis a few years ago, I recall that feeling lol. I talked to walls. That is what I have heard.

Thank you so much for reacting to this. I was in high school when this song first came out in 1979. I remember it well. My girlfriend at the time and I loved attending concerts. It was one of the things we loved doing together. There were a huge number of wonderful groups at the time and concerts were not very expensive to attend. Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, Boston, Journey, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Triumph, 38 Special, Foreigner, and many others. I cannot describe to you what a wonderful time it was to be young then. We were happier, relationships were closer, life was more carefree, and the music was spectacular. Our 4 adult children (28-33) love 70’s/80’s music just as we do. My heart just aches that young people will not get to experience life as we did as teenagers in the 70’s/80’s. Again, thank you so much for posting this video. It was a wonderful treat.

Harri, I've now watched several of your 'Reaction' videos (mostly the Pink Floyd ones). I just want to say that I'm impressed. I'm impressed by your honesty and humility in the face of wondrous music and the emotions that it can sometimes engender. I appreciate your intelligence, your humour, your self-deprecation and the respect that you show to genius. Well done. Good stuff, fellow human.

Pink Floyd Pulse is VISUAL as well as sonic. It defeats the purpose to have your eyes closed the entire time. Perhaps you didn’t realize that Floyd is a visual art form as well. When you watch one of their concerts, you need to actually watch it. Exception might be the original Pompeii performance of Echoes.Watch it again.....eyes open...

Eyes open, eyes closed, watching live,, or just the lyrics...it''s all good to me and depends on my mood at the time. Music gives the listener the pleasure of hearing it in any way it moves you. It's been studied and shown how music affects the brain waves. Do a search on it because it is so very fascinating!!!

The whole Pulse album is amazing..especially when watched in Bluray 5.1..Comfortably Numb is an extraordinary song and Gilmours solo is beyond words..possibly the greatest rock guitar track recorded. Check out the version on his live in Pompei album.

All great guitar player's solos reflect /speak the same as the lyrics. Hendrix "Redhouse" studio version. Eagles Hotel California. Duane Allman 2nd solo "You don't Love Me". Jimmy Page "Stairway"
Elvin Bishop "Fooled Around" Johnny Winters "Be Careful With A Fool" Album version. The list goes on forever..
If you are in the place where you identify with the song, you will be transported!!

  • @mrsmith4787

The reason the solos hit you is because they're melodic. These solos could be sung and that's very very rare.
If you listen to Time from Far Side of the Moon, that's another of Gilmores melodic solos.
    Other melodic solos are:
Leslie West of Mountain - Theme From an Imaginary Western and For Yasgurs Farm (studio versions only).
Joe Satriani - The Unbroken Part 2
Tony Iommi of Black Sabbath - Snowblind
Eric Clapton of Cream - White Room
Gerry Rafferty - Baker Street (Long Version)
Beatles - While My Guitar Gently Weeps (George Harrison song but Claption played the solos - White Album version)
Slash of Guns 'n Roses - November Rain
    Heart - Alone (studio version)
    Jethro Tull - Aqualung
It's been my experience that if a person doesn't like the song, they won't appreciate the solo.

PULSE was a blast!!... Another level of everything music could do in those days... A one time experience. Try to listen the original album. You don't react to PINK FLOYD songs, you react to the FULL ALBUM in a row. Every song in that album you must listen in that order: from the first to the last one has it is on the run. From one to another, it's a journey to your inner thoughts and feelings.... And it's not weird what you're feeling. I'm just surprised that you don't know that album already... In what planet have you been?
Did you know that Pink Floyd was already in space??? YEP!!
On November 26, 1988, the crew of the Soyuz TM-7 was launched into space with the cassette version of the album "Delicate Sound of Thunder" in their pocket. It was like this, putting the ribbon to play, that the astronauts of the seventh expedition to the Mir orbital station made Pink Floyd the first rock band heard in space, years before the Canadian Chris Hadfield and his version of "Space Oddity". David Gilmour and Nick Mason participated in the big moment, watching the launch...
You must start to listen some radio stations that play the good stuff... So you can instruct yourself and educate your musical knowledge.
It will be like you're back at school, trust me. To criticize music you have to go basics and grow with it.
Now for this DARK SIDE OF THE MOON experience, Try to listen the full album with headphones (mandatory), when you're laid down, with your eyes closed with no lights on, outside, under the stars... yep!!! 40 years ago that was an experience!!... among other's... (8D .... and it still is. Like magic.

Oh, it is you, Harri. Great to see you gain! When you came poping out of your Pink Floyd Rabbit Hole, initiallyI was afraid that it was going to be that twisted little Ground Hog, trying to tell us something about the weather, or something equally as lame...But No, we got lucky and it was you Harri. Hey look guys, it's Harri. I was wishing that you were here and then "POP" and here you come, extricating yourself from that Rabbit Hole of yours. Great Gig, I'll bet? Man, we missed you Harri & we're glad you're back. So, are you gonna share what you learned, down there? Help us understand. Recently I have been examining how important to Pink Floyd, that the "Sound Technicians, Producers, etc are, because there is only a finite space that we can fill with Sound and when filling that area, one must be careful and precise in the placement of each sound, but also must be certain that all things are balanced and kept uncluttered by not putting too many sounds in that space so it doesn't become muddied up, you know? as Long as Pink Floyd has been around, they have been the only group that could ever fill that "Sound Space" completely and perfectly. They are indeed unique in that way and many others.Great to have Harri back! Thank You for sharing this with all of us out here, Harri. Later & Keep Smiling...

To understand this song, you really need to watch the Pink Floyd movie, "The Wall," It is after the Hero calls home , he is on Tour and another Man answers his home phone. He LOSES IT! Destroys his hotel room, and Himself. His Manager comes in and finds him, and gives him a shot of Something *Keep you going through the show*. The Wall is worthy of an Epic Reaction Video! Thanks Harris, I enjoy your channel

Sadly, even a Dolby surround system does not give the experience of Floyd. I was there and they have a quadraphonic sound system powerful enough for an Olympic sized stadium. Awesome.
